6:48 I love Falcon explaining the pet breeding mechanic in Balan Wonderland while casually chucking the little critters off a cliff. 😂
It makes me so upset that Werewolf was mishandled. I hope that someday WTA can get the Vampire the Masquerade treatment, character creation, five forms you can transform into, breed choice, gifts, a proper story, etc.
Same
Big same. I still remember seeing Capcom was working on a W:TA game in the 90s that was going to be an isometric action RPG and it got canned. Then there was the Unreal engine one from the late 90's that got canned. Werewolf needs and deserves good adaptation. Hell, I'd take a digital version of the RAGE CCG at this point.
I have gave up at this point !!! This is one of those games I want to attempt in UE5
@reapersasmr5483 Interesting concept, might be worth looking into….
there's a guy working by himself making a sprite style platformer inspired by this. he's just released alpha footage of the build. it's got it's own plot and such, however.
The sadist part of werewolf the apocalypse is that we are now vary unlikely to see another game with such a unique werewolf mechanics because this game makes it look like something nobody would play and that's such a crime! This game looked so damn awesome and I always want more werewolf games to match the abundant amount of vampire games...but now we will and have seen even less now.
I don't know it gave me flashbacks of the warehog levels in sonic unleashed
it damn near broke my soul to see at WtA come out and be as bad as this one was.
Very
I feel the same. Im so tired of the oversaturated Vampire Market.
Lycans are so rarely used for main IPs.
This goes for movies, games, and anime. Shame smh
At least there is the werewolf guild in Skyrim
As someone who works for a massive corporation I'm not the least bit surprised at how so many really neat concepts can get so derailed by the final product
Yup. Almost always due to "other financial priorities" or other times just the egos of the higher ups that think they know better and want to stick to "what works" aka all they're used to doing without taking any risks on the unfamiliar.
The even sadder part about American McGee is that his Third Alice game is done. You can find his portfolio online with all the art, direction, gameplay, story, etc.
But EA won’t give him the license to Alice so after 11 years of hard work he can’t give us Alice Asylum.
The saddest part about American McGee is his name
Says someone named@@door_productions4896 😂
Alice Madness Returns is so good and so much fun. Didn’t know there was a third title
@@door_productions4896 considering his childhood - yeah. Spoiler - his mother wasn't right in the head.
Also ID Software fired him because they had a-grade-holes in their management and quite toxic culture - once they don't like you (even for petty reasons or none at all) it's game over.
Haha😂 the Jurassic Park arm jiggle when you turn is killing me.
Is a new level of noodle arms
One game I've wanted for as long as I can remember is a game that you play as a werewolf. A legit werewolf game were you run a pack, fight other monsters, ect. We have so many vampire games but no werewolf games so I was so excited for Werewolf Earthblood. I hate that it wasn't a good game
It's sad the closest we've ever gotten to this are the amazing werewolf mods for skyrim.
Can kinda do that if you want as a werewolf in Skyrim, there are mods to expand the werewolf stuff too, but I hear ya a legit werewolf game would be nuts!
@cenciende9401 yeah I've played alot of Skyrim just for the werewolf mods lol.
Same. I’m tired of playing as vampires. I want a brutal, Mortal Kombat levels of gore and violence werewolf game.
For anyone more curious about The Quiet Man or Balan Wonderworld, Rerez does an It’s Just Bad video on both of them. I highly recommend it.
*sped up gut-punches*
I study ASL and that was my first rerez video ❤
@@captainvimes6079 that’s so cool!
I was practically raised on Werewolf: The Apocalypse. As someone who owns all the books from the original game form the '90s, I can say Earthblood nails the visual and audio style of that game perfectly. Shame it does the bare minimum with gameplay and story telling.
But if you really want a great WtA game, go look up Heart of the Forest. It's more akin to a Telltale style, chose your own adventure. But it's very rich in immersive storytelling and the oppressive atmosphere the World of Darkness is known for. Which is what Werewolf was at its core: a storytelling game first. Action RPG second.
More of this video series please. I can't get enough bad games.
I love this channel for how much research goes into the games you all list. I can’t imagine how many games you’ve played from the mainstream to the obscure to figure out which ones are good to talk about.
But Falcon did not mention, Yuji Naka says he was removed as director of Balan Wonderworld by the other people on the team. There maybe more to it for research in that regard.
@@ceruleanfc813He has mentioned, Jake as well, that Yuji was kicked off his team because of repeat legal troubles. Tax evasion and insider trading I believe. These points have come up more than once in other videos. Just because it wasn’t quickly mentioned here doesn’t mean the team doesn’t do research.
This comment is very much cap
You and Jake are the best duo online. I watched a lot of different types of videos online and the dynamic that you display is the kind people should strive for. You & The Dynamic Duo Podcast but they’re literally twins.
👍🏼
That Michigan one sounds amazing on paper... I hope someone else picks up an idea like that and makes a new game
Yeah, an open-world game where some kind of event happens across different parts of it, and you have to replay it and film different parts to put the story together and solve the mystery... it's an absolutely incredible idea on paper. You could have a time loop mechanic like Deathloop (but hopefully not as shallow), or play as different people experiencing the same thing, each with their own skills and abilities... it could be incredible if done right.
It reminded me of that Godzilla game where you are just a civilian trying to survive the carnage
There is a series you may be interested in called Disaster Report that, I believe, Michigan: Report From Hell is technically a part of.
@@qster4 Thanks. Will look it up.
Glad to see number one. I have always thought the idea of a survival horror that changed depending on what you filmed and would skip parts of the game when dying or running out of battery to pick up in another tense scenario would be really interesting.
I know Echo didn't receive a lot of praise, but it does do some more of the adaptive AI people have always wanted. Though I hear it doesn't amount to more than go loud during the first half of the day, stealth at night, then alternate each day and you do just fine. The AI will only change it's playstyle based on one part of the day and it only changes whether they come at you or counter stealth.
I was disappointed with Werewolf the Apocalypse. I wanted a really cool Werewolf game, and this did not deliver. The only game I’ve seen of some merit is an older pc multiplayer game WolfTeam.
If Quantum Error was about $10, I'd probably give it a chance. I don't imagine there's many firefighting games without getting into simulators. Aside from the stealth sections, I had fun playing Werewolf: The Apocalypse. It's wasn't a great game, but going full aggro was entertaining. I wish more games let you play as a werewolf.
Gotta love that the bad games makes the good games just so much better.
Damn it
I bought the game in the thumbnail 😅
I literally played for like 2 hours and it was so . . . not good, I never finished it.
I do like the firefighter aspect of Quantum Error. It reminds me of Cold Fear in which you played the part of a member of the Coast Guard.
Cold Fear was incredible
@@turbobuddah Yes it was. It's too bad it went so underrecognized.
This was an excellently done video. I would gladly like to see a part 2.
X-Men Destiny. It was interesting playing as someone who wasn't an established X-Men character, someone we haven't already seen in a dozen movies, cartoons and games. Also it was a nice change of pace seeing an X-Men property that didn't boil down to Wolverine and his less-important friends.
coool another banger from gameranx
6:47 i like how he casually throws the critters off the cliff
i didnt know that when u edit the creators like gets taken off 😭😭
My goodness, I've only just now learned that American McGee is the name of an actual person.
Falcon give us a list of your most influential games growing up!!
Mine would be boogerman (sega genesis) road rash, OG prince of Persia , and of course Pokemon
Ahh yes, and this is why I love this channel.
The titles are uniquely unique, invokes curiosity and the videos themselves are very informative/entertaining.
Added to that, I can come back here EVERYDAY and see something new.
Keep it up guys!!!😁
Werewolf of apocalypse had so much potential to be one of the greats make my heart hurts I’m a die hard werewolf fan the whole concept makes me pissed some many games like that go to waste
Trespasser getting some love!
Werewolf the Apocalypse makes me so sad. It was great in concept and ugh I wish there were more cool werewolf games but alas...
Werewolf still breaks my heart to this day
👍🏼
Why would you make a stealth game where you can't take out enemies with a headshot
Fun fact: if you go through the tedious of getting a special tim, you can fly up to a floating island to get the Balan skin. Which is 100% broken. And if you lose the skin then yeah gotta do it all over again.
Also I hated that werewolf game. I thought it was gonna be fun, but I was wrong. Because the sneak mechanic suck, you're going to end up just fighting most of the time.
I always forget if American McGee is a game developer or an Adult Swim show
Actually I loved Michigan! Primative days it was made in, but that format for a monster/body horror with today's graphics and voice acting??? That makes me moister than another Evil Within! 😛
Most of these games I had never heard of and I'm glad that I don't feel like I missed anything, but I loved Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Just like you said "I get to play as a werewolf? Sign me up!" And I honestly had fun playing it. It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it.
Man it was the first game i bought on my xbox when i got it. And i could never get into it.
It was, as Charlie would say, “fun bad”.
your taste in games must be abysmal
Buy a Fortnite werewolf skin
@@chillhour6155 I don't play fortnite
I always loved the art/aesthetics of Nights. For like 30 years now it has stuck in my head. Never played it outside of a demo Saturn at a store back in the day. Don't really have any will to play it these days, so I never emulated it. But that art is just great.
Of bird and cage seems to be the game that offended Falcon the most…yeah that tracks.
I feel like the Quiet Man devs lost the sound files, so they just changed the title
Whoever Is the gameplay of the 7th game trowhing those CUTE AF things down the Cliff Is a MONSTER
@4:33: “Not good, mind you, but not like anything else.” 😂
Love how that firefighter was just spraying the water forward while someone was on fire next to him.
"It's like if you took the chao thing from Sonic Adventure, but like, made it really complicated."
Ah, I see you've never tried to raise a chao in the Sonic Adventure series. It was *already* complicated.
Go ahead, evolve a chaos chao. I'll wait.
6:40 lol, this clip of you throwing the Tims off the cliff is priceless. 🤣 Although, you’re probably doing them a favor considering they’d be stuck in Balan Wonderworld for all eternity otherwise.
Hearing falcon gives me a good day thanks gameranx
🤝
The deep cuts on this list are amazing. A good handful I genuinely have never even heard of, and seeing them....just wow. Of Bird and Cage as well as Bad Day LA are just embarrassing.
At 5:29 he goes around half the loop, misses one, and goes back for it while leaving the other half of the loop....how is that so relatable lol
A truly underrated game was Indian Jones that gave was surprisingly fun I never leave my hat behind
Glad to see you back, Falcon.
Yo, either I'm from a different timeline or Bad Day LA is an absolute CLASSIC remake of a long forgotten Gem. It has Jank, obviously but damn does it have character, what a Gem
Great list, I was unaware of most of these. The worst I played was a game on PS3 (or 4?) done in the style of school book scribbles. I forget the name, but it was so rank I even hid the game on my lists after downloading it. I think it was given away for free. Be curious if you could find it but that was just awful in every way.
You forgot to say that MGS is litteraly Fortnite debut game in PVE... I also had my first look at a Kirby Game on Switch and made me feel like I was playing an updated version of Balant Underworld... KEKW
Oof that Werewolf one was SO strange
Yeah I played werewolf, apocalypse. I wanted it be somewhat decent. We don’t have enough good games with werewolves. Last decent one was skyrim SE, been replaying in ps5.
Yeah werewolf apocalypse, combat was werewolf was floaty, the story was not bad but not great, and direwolf form was so under utilized. They should have direwolf stealth skills and made him useful. But all did was sneak around, but you had shift back to human to do anything, open door, push button on elevator. Made wolf form so useless. It’s not bad game at least for story. But rest was so meh. We need more decent werewolf games.
Looking down at my virtual boob tattoo to monitor my health is singlehandedly the best gaming feature I've ever heard of
in EVERYTHING is "awkward".
Saying something is awkward because is also awkward.
Exactly
Earthblood is quite possibly the biggest video game disappointment of my life. I love that setting and all of the promo stuff leading up to it felt really cool and on-point. And then they made...that. Why couldn't we get a game where the combat was fun? Or the stealth was good? Or just a good old fashioned Bloodlines-style RPG? There are so many things this game could have been and it breaks my heart that no one is likely to try to pick the concept up again after this bomb.
Jurassic Park Trespasser was an amazingly ambitious game. It’s not bad for what they tried, but janky as hell 🤣
And all I have to say is watch Critikal’s old playthroughs of video games and let me tell you, Michigan Report From Hell is one of his funniest
Crackdown 3 was actually fun . Just too short unlike the second one
# 4 ~ A particularly bad day in LA.... So basically everyday. Got it!
Love my daily dose of gameranx!!! Definitely going to be an exciting year in gaming and for gameranx videos, keep it up!
🤝
There was a firefighting arcade game too, whose name I don't remember. It was very Time Crisis-ish, playing like an on-rails shooter. The one I played turned out to be a waste of change since the gun was broken, it'd aim randomly.
I know what you're talking about! The name unfortunately does escape me though. The cabinet I played as a kid worked great and I recall the game being decently fun(I was a big time crisis/house dead kid though so anything with a light gun was bound to entertain me)
Was an awesome fireman game on SNES.
Quiet Man is also somehow makes me think about the uncanny valley all the time.
The thing about The Quiet Man is its only silent its first time through. You have to beat the game in order to unlock the audio, and then start a new game+.
I can't believe I've listened to this talking bird for so long, and it's not even a parrot.
Whoever said “lets make a werewolf game and MAKE IT A PLATFORMER” must really hate gamers
Bad Day L.A. is a classic man!
13:43 the Jurassic devs apparently weren’t only focused on adventure/ smart Dino’s in the game… even a heart tattoo/ health bar?! 😂 ok Falcon mentioned the chest view… thought he wasn’t going to ha.
Wow I totally missed thatvhearth healthbar
The comedic timing of the cleavage reveals from the Jurassic Park game is top tier 😂
Falcon, the first video game that I know of where you play as a firefighter, titled Fire Fighter, came out for the Atari 2600 back in 1982.
👍🏼
An honorable Mention: Rainbow six Extraction. Its a gamemode that got its own game and it was a desprite money grab that flopped and now has a small cult following
Civvie 11 described Bad Day L.A. as "if Carlos Mencia ripped off Dave Chappelle's EVERYTHING".
Say what you want about Michigan, but the "OOOH MY GAAWWD" moments almost make it worth it
I was optimistic about Metal Gear Survive, as a Metal Gear Solid fan, and a mild fan of survival games, but it was just way too lackluster and confusing. I played it for about 25 mins and couldn't figure out what was going on or what I was supposed to really do so I just turned it off and deleted it. Glad it was free.
Idk what planet gameranx is living on but 2023 was an absolutely abysmal year for gaming. Everything post covid has been garbage for the most part.
Yes I had werewolf earth blood through gamefly kept hoping it would get better gave up like 8 or 10 hrs maybe sooooo disappointed. I really wanted to like it too.
I remember loving Balan Wonderworld after seeing the trailers, and hearing about it's downfall made me sad
I didnt even know quantum error was a thing.
Falcon’s vocab word of the day: ambitious
The jiggle physics on Jurassic Park game was miss placed. If they put that code on other place the game would get more recognition 😂
the Jurassic park one sure wants you to look straight down >.>
jurassic park trespasser looks amazing, i really want more games like that but good. 😀
I think anthem definitely deserves a place on the list. Just being in a cool iron man suit was so cool, and I really wish it wasn’t wasted on anthem
You're awesome Wood, deflect the haters. "They hate us because they ain't us!" 😅
Nice series. Werewolf games are sparse, especially on console. Need some.
I loved the front mission games so sad to see it disappear. Wish they'd do a new one
I actually really enjoyed Werewolf Earthblood. Yes, it had it faults, but to me, the gameplay was really fun
A random shoutout to a game that needs more attention, FireGirl hack n splash rescue! You want a unique firefighting game that’s not a simulator, it’s this game. Be aware however, it’s decently hard until you get used to the maps, gimmicks, and a couple of upgrades.
I did not realize that I would be spending the rest of my day off replaying Trespasser but here we are.
Great video as always
I would say that when you try to emulate a franchise made by the very involved, inherently weird and different auteur like Hideo Kojima, you will loose the soul and spark of him, and in trying to emulate it you'll come up with something different and "uNiQuE" but also soulless.
This is weird... I JUST started Werewolf the Apocalypse, and this vídeo poped UP.
Man, you guys are pumping out videos like crazy. I hope you are doing well and it's okey to take a break every now and then.
I’m surprised you guys didn’t show a compilation clip from Michigan: Report from Hell with the character saying _”OOOOOOHHHH MY GODDDDDDDD”_
12am i have work tomorrow morning & Gameranx decided to drop a video
Oh. Just like every other day they drop videos at this time.
Bad Day L.A.= Falling Down The Game
Surprised Spore didn't at least get an honourable mention
Metal Gear Survive was made of spite towards Kojima. That's all. Konami perfectly knew the game would flop.
We won't get anymore American McGee's Alice games but we get Bad Day LA? That sucks.
2:18 He looks like if you took the Puppet from ‘Team America’ and made a real character
hilariously, I'm on the official Earthblood discord server, and we're kinda grateful we got ANYthing. the IP is thirty years old, and is still niche even now. being a combination of the 80's classic Horror revival movement, the 90's anvilicous Environmentalisim movement and the "take that, censors" era,it's mostly for middle and late Gen X and early Millenial gamers.
I swear the gunshots in Bad Day LA were used in Elmer Fudd cartoons…
