Why you suck at EverQuest

- Help out all your friends that suck at EverQuest, and send them this video!! Probably should have mentioned that I'm speaking largely in the context of EQ TLP servers, and can respect some dynamics change on P99 / Quarm, but many of the fundamentals stay the same.

I would love a part 2. You bring up things we should all ponder and try. Thx for the vid
Followed instructions. Got dizzy rotating the camera and passed out.
F
Just means you're doing it right
LOL!!!
How am I going to sip my root beers and eat my sour gummies if I’m supposed to be working this hard in groups? 😂
😂
That's not even taking into account the obligatory butt scratch every few seconds.
Easy! Play a Magician!
90% of players in EQ use MQ2 anyways.. just set up a camp and afk
I'm a camp Monk! Go pull, Cleric.
Yessirrrrrrrrr
It's crazy to me that people still refuse to accept this lol
I mean, actually yeah. Clerics can totally pull, they get the same pacify as enchanters and they have good roots, cheap root clickies, a 41% chance memblur and even a cheap memblur clicky.
Actually, I thought a ranger joke was INC....
Good vid, im still gonna suck tho
@@ShoopsWhoops only thing is they have mana to regen via sitting down.
Thanks for the memories! I played monk, was in the top raiding guilds back in the day and my role was the primary puller for the raids. I can see where you are coming from. Yes, monks have high dps and help the group kill faster, but a good monk knows when to dip out, pull more and keep the group busy without overwhelming them. Plus when the perfect storm of an incoming static pop met up with the ill timed patrol happens, it's a trivial thing when the monk can just FD and clear aggro. Sh*t happens.
By all means other classes can pull, but having a good pulling monk in the group makes for a stress free camp experience.
Raid pullers, Monk and Bard no question. Static camps less so.
Very well put! I've tried to make these arguments and people just freak out that their sense of reality has been challenged
Yeah, you literally can't mention this stuff in-game or you get cancelled by Norrath. People are soooo sensitive.
A good bard will be back in camp before his songs fade losing nothing but his meager melee damage.
So on every camp in eq a bard will leave, pacify and be back in camp before 12 sec is gone huh, you have never played a bard sir and have NO clue...
I played FFXI for four years (385 days of play time. 9240 hours) You chain killed mobs for EXP in groups. The pullers were always Rangers, Thieves, Corsair...basically jobs with a ranged options. They ran off to shoot another mob when the current target was roughly half HP, to keep the flow of battle going.
Thanks for this. I have solo quadded my way up to 60 without grouping once so I need this info for future groups.
I've played EQ since launch and I've never seriously played TLP until Tormax. The server is dead but I love the community. I raid with OM and am having a blast! What I'm finding is, there are a lot of people that are very new by comparison on TLP, at least on this server - and that's ok! Be kind and pass your knowledge of them on to others. I find this is adding to the charm of playing TLP and I may in the future consider doing this again. I hope players that are newer to EQ find these videos, they are constructive and positive in a way players should be with one another.
loved the part about pulling.!
great list. part two could have lots of other tips including aggro management, off-tanking, breaking mez, when to succor, group disbanding etiquette (like finding replacements), how to afk efficiently, keeping mobs in rotation in a camp, shrinking large races out of courtesy, tipping for ports and rezzes...i could go on!
This video should be mandatory watching for all players.
Looks at the chain pulling I do as bard working in mezing AND buffing and thinking to myself "yeah, I likes pulling as a bard."
After 25 years of playing some people just play to chill, doesnt mean they suck, just means being 100%efficient is less of a concern. Good vid though
Agree, good vid. But yeah when we were younger we all wanted to be a server legend lol. I think most people in this demographic just want to chillax now. This is pretty sweaty tbh lol, but that's what some folks like. That's why it's important to know what kind of group it is. Casuals and sweaties don't mix.
@@EQOAnostalgia Exactlty. I usually like to chill but sometimes I'm in the mood to tryhard and it can be annoying when you want tto go hard and some people just aren't capable.
Using class abilities and game mechanics isn't sweaty, it's just called playing.
@@CAiNiAC Both the lazy eq guy and the tryhard eq guy are using class abilities and mechanics the question is how much
effort they put into making everything optimal . So what are you even saying?
@@EQOAnostalgia i dont think this is sweaty at all. things like people on full mana bars not doing anything isnt chilling - its leeching and there are a lot of leeches play EQ still.
good video! i dont play eq anymore but this video is like good radio, def worth a listen.
I appreciate that!
After your recent video about stats, I decided to replay this one while I did some chores around the house. Good stuff man.
Players are very inefficient, and a lot of the time, that's okay. But would it be nice if people knew some of these "tricks" and tips? For sure.
Would certainly be interested in a part 2 if you think there's more to go over.
Game = chill down time while hanging with chat buds. Life = working hard for slight improvements. Game is for escapism, not continuation of stress.
Masterful video! I got ready to be a corrective d-bag when I saw this title, but you nailed most of it! Maybe a lot of your pulling suggestions seemed more grind- and outdoor-centric, but all excellent guidelines for struggling players. Thank you!
-Soma, Volari, Venrah, Somatice (Luclin/Veeshan, Legacy of Sorrow: 1999-2009)
Wow, Legacy of Sorrow? It's been a long time since I heard that name. I played in both Endorean and Insidious Blood on Luclin from 2001-2003. Whatever happened to Neku and Large? Do they still play?
@@singlezergling Did you play with Desdemona the DE Cler in IB, or Toh or Travistt? All good RL friends and family. I talked to Neku in CoDM a few years ago, but have hardly talked to any old members. I know many went to WoW early on. I played Venrah (warrior), Somatice (mage), and Volari (monk) on Luclin as my primaries.
I’ve had enchanter puller for statics I’ve been in and it’s just fine. I’ve even pulled on cleric before when I’ve felt the pug puller wasn’t comfortable doing it properly.
Yeah this ^
I've been out of EQ for a long time (like 2004?) but even back then, I pulled for my groups all the time, as an Enchanter. The kit is just so good for it, and it's very fun to do. Lull to break up packs, Tash for a quick tag, Stun/Mez/Mind wipe to drop the mob off if the tank isn't ready for it yet, then head back out for more. I would even get my Hate/Fear raid leaders to let me do it - and it definitely wasn't normal back then.
Love to see it!
I like to pull with a free slow item. Reaches further than my spells and.. it is slowed when I get hit :)
@@shawnalanmerriman SHam Slo agros everything LOL hopefully its just a few mobs the smaller group is camping . Can always Root the Add.
Chanters, Necros and Clerics are great pullers .
First! Also, great video I liked the tips and overall message to look a bit deeper into the capability of each class.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think one of the reasons EQ has been so good for so long is that nobody was ever worried about stuff like this. Groups were whatever they were. Its the social aspect that made the game. Sometimes you had a bust ass killer group and sometimes its was slower and chatty. I rarely heard anyone say 'you should be doing it this way'.
I'm a very polite minmaxer, so when I get in a chatty group, I just silent lament at the inefficiency.
I played for about 7 years, 1999-2006, and I'd occasionally get in a group where someone was constantly pissed at one player or another for not being 100% perfect or playing exactly how they thought the game should be played. Those groups didn't last long. The one trick that I used to do that guaranteed 8-hour EXP groups was to have a spawn timer I wrote for my laptop that would just run simultaneous countdown timers for every spawn in the camp, and tell me, to the second, when spawns would pop. Nothing like a nice casual group where you knew for sure you had a 4 minute break to go take a leak or get something to snack on without the anxiety of a spawn wiping your group because you were AFK.
Part 2 please
I prefer to just kill 1 mob at a time in my xp groups. It minimizes the risk of everything going sideways, and keeps everyone at high enough mana to deal with the rare occasion that everything goes sideways. It’s slower, but a way more chill time. Allows me to pay more attention to whatever I’ve got pulled up on UA-cam as well…. I just don’t see the point of tryharding in this game. It’s like 25 years old… I view it more as a chat room with activities.
Good video. Depending on era/content I'd also consider shaman as a great pull class. They can tag mobs with slow and then root / VP adds on the way to camp for CC. I find myself pulling a lot on shaman.
Agree!
As a monk back in the day, 95% of my time was spent pulling. All i wanted to do was punch stuff. You know how stressful it was the 1st time I went to unrest and was told to just start pulling? Not fun.
I appreciate the effort you put into this video, but Jesus, you're turning the game into a job lol. I'll just voluntarily keep sucking at Everquest. The game was designed to experience trials, errors, and periods of *choosing* to socialize.
Ouch, but....^this
If you try to solo, you are told you are doing it wrong, should be grouped in a MMO
Then, since it is assumed you should be in a group, now you have to be optimal or you suck...wtf?
Its a game....and those 6 man groups you are referring to in the vid, they often dont exist at first
They often start as 2-3 toons trying to take down a small camp for safe, efficient exp
Many groups dont even get 6 toons, let alone optimal makeup
But still, nice vid...and OJimenez, you have valid points
@@openyoureyes909jones6 Appreciate it! lol
Part 2 plz ,, as a returning player from the late 90's the thought of any1 apart from a bard or monk and maybe SK pulling was crazy but times have changed :)
Biggest issue is people who forget the primary focus of the game is to have fun. You make EQ an actual chore, guy. It's sound like you want to box, so box.
the game is a lot more fun if you or the people in your group dont suck. if you consider trying to play well a chore, then i would not have very much fun grouping with you.
I once spent 6 months of my game time sitting in Solusek waiting for Targin the Rock to spawn, it's not always about efficiency.
I will admit that it was frustrating as a Paladin tanking one of the twins in the pillars. Hovering around 40% mana and watching the other Paladin tanking the other twin, drop with a full mana bar.
Agree with this for the most part. Enc as a puller isn’t a good idea. You might be referring to specific expansions, but I don’t want to risk being out of camp when a charm break occurs, you’d train the zone
if you have good melee in the group with you they should be able to grab the charm break and tank it until you come back to reclaim it.
Parents: "Come to dinner son."
Son: "I can't, I'm pulling online."
Mom: "Have some respect for ladies."
Dad: "Nice one son."
Talking about pulled and no mention on Rangers?do you even play ?
Pullers *
@@jeffevans4711 I was wondering this as well, esp outdoors with harmony....dungeons. maybe not so much
After playing on a private server with botting software, I can tell you right now why everyone thinks they suck compared to the top players. That stuff opened my eyes and made it very clear. You probably think you suck because you're not botting like they are. The botting software that nearly everyone at the top uses, is pretty crazy. The things you can pull off are nuts.
It's been a long, long time since I played official servers, but wow, stuff must have changed. I'm used to P99 where those pulling rules sound quite strange.
As a chanter I learned this early on. I can cc just as effectively by pulling as i can cleaning up messes. And I can always have mobs stacked up in camp waiting on the dps heavy monk to kill the last mob.
Necro has a mana tap
I form groups that never have mana issues.
Camps are so 1999.
So if I really don't want to pull, what are the best classes for me? Rogue, Warrior, Shaman?
Teek will be my third server with the same puller. Im an Enc and he always monitors my mana. He's really good at keeping me at about 33%. Gotta have that buffer to organize chaos.
I play first person as often as i can. I work off of xtar. But when i really need to focus, I'll zoom out.
Just another opinion of a sweaty min-maxer. Play the game to have fun!
Everytime i get back into EQ it always surprises me how few players actually care to play in a semi-efficient manner. 25 years to learn how to play a relatively basic mmo and a lot of people just suck at it. I think part of the problem is people stick to oldschool class roles, and don't think outside the box. Im a cleric why would i do anything but sit here will full mana and wait to heal???
Research ZAM... zones gear material ect...Hot zones and daily Teek quests... world exploration.
I fucking loved this video, it made me subscribe. I played an SK during original era Kunark to GoD and quit until I played an ench on Yelinak and Oakwynd along with some minor playing on live in 2020 and with that change I’ve noticed such a huge difference in the average caliber of player in EQ. Back during original era EVERYTHING was so hard that you had to be attentive and good but it seems that culture has died off some especially as I get on TLPs. All of these tips were dead on and I would pretty often find myself having to basically hold half the groups hand and tell them to do their job. Lol I’m embellishing a bit but sometimes the lazy inattentive play is rampant and destructive.
pulling is one of my worst skills. i dont know dungeons well enough to know where and how i can get 1-2 mobs for a group without wiping us. i dread being in a place i've never been to before and the group says "ok ranger go pull"
I made a video reponse to stats don't matter and also i invite you to come to p99 and play a warrior with no gear and no stats since stats don't matter or play a enchanter with all your points into strength since charisma doesn't matter or a human necro with all points into wisdom since stats don't matter.
I will make another video response to this one there are good points here and there and bad ones here and there:
Group: Reason why bard shadow knights and monk pull is because they have best chance of coming out of it alive and not killing the entire team.
If you give a magician the job to pull he is going to pull multiple mobs and get himself or the group killed. Casters need to sit and med, even necromancers.Giving a cleric a pulling job doesn't give him enough time to get mana back.
Druids can be good pullers, but they are best in open zones not in dungeons because harmony does not work there, but bard paci and enchanter paci does. You want enchanters in the camp to control aggro when pullers pull multiple mobs to avoid drama of death. Its ok for enchanters to pull but other classes are better because they are tankier and can reset aggro more easily.
So see some info good some bad.
2:i agree that people who are casters should watch their mana correctly and i agree 100% about dots.Dots are always going to be inferior to melee in group.
Because dots are ramp up and mobs die too fast to get full damage. You did also mention slows which is true as well.If the damage is negligable due to mobs dying so fast it is also pointless to slow. A few key points of my own:You did not mention that some mobs have resistances innately to something such as magic spells or poison fire or disease, EG:genoids are innately more resistant to poison and disease but fire dots and magic work fine.
A key to this game is to understand mobs weakness
I feel like you should point this out.
Enchanters on the other hand are better in the camp due to being glassy and dying rather fast. You also don't want enchanters to die at all because they are amazing crowd controllers and that could spell the doom of your group.
Camera:Nothing to say as its accurate.
tools:YES agree absolutely. How can you call yourself a good enchanter if you don't use your tools to the fullest? or a bard or a necro.
Teach me! My main wizard has never reached max level on live and it’s been over 20 years
My dude you could probly do parts 2 and 3
LOL
Most profitable change in exp groups. Make it an OTM group and not pulling in mobs. Bounce from spawn to spawn.
there really are no guides for EQ anymore and I feel like a lot of people don't really know how to play EQ well anyway
Mindwrack replaces conc pots and most casters use concs, so they get mad when i cast it on my tlp
I Just eat myself as a Sham . Cana management !! No such thang as Mana management LOL
This guy has only ever boxed in EQ with mercs.
That's what I thought 😂
What a dumb comment. In the 3 groups he shows, there is only 1 with a merc.
If I can enter combat and leave combat with more hp and mana than what I started with. I'm just fine
I always pull with the enchanter way easier than a monk
EQ was always much more complex in the pulling dept than EQOA lol. We just sent our tanks out to body pull and follow up with taunts. Then again, EQ had a 6 man party for CC's etc. We have 4 man. I seem to remember enc pulling a lot though back in the day. Our private server pretty much just went live so, foggy memories lol. Good vid.
The game is so easy that having your monitor on is like 65% of the skill necessary
Enchanters are pulling gods. No class has a better toolkit to manage the pulling supply chain from initial break to literal nonstop killing.
I agree!
Can confirm on every tlp i've payed if i roll enchanter im constantly chaining pulls 5+ mobs at a time and running off to get next pull when nly 1-2 mobs left in camp so theres 0 downtime until everone is oom and needs a break lol i started pulling caus many people are so slow and it just gets too boring stting around 2 min between every mob.
I never played EQ I went straight from UO to the next bandwagon my friends were playing mingled with Shadowbane and EVE for a bit before we all went to WOW. But I dont know if I will translate well into EQ I raid well when I decide to but mostly hate it. I started off playing MUDs so I was used to being a soloist slash enchanter kind of player. I hear crafting is worth it but it sounds long and tedious like UO Bulk orders etc.
Exp in EQ is so bad , grinding is a complete waste of everyones time. Find a few quests and repeat them. Mush faster and a lot less BS.
I mean your most skilled player should probably be pulling, but i wil disagree on tank pulling after say mid level expansions
When tank survivability vastly outweighs any other archetypes and pull sizes are filling extended target it does make sense for a tank to pull.
But by then itndoesnt make sense to sit in one spot, your entire group should be onnthe move all the time and your tank should be filling the extended target
My hero
Hey m guy... i have a respurce management issue. My necro stays OoM and low hp. How the fuck do i manage THAT? Also when i chain pull with my ranger my groups whines about low mana and needing breaks.
Find a new group, and a new necro :)
hmmm why i suck at everquest well i havent played it in over 20 years lol
If the cleric has full mana, the group sucks. Clerics absolutely should not be pulling. Move to a different camp, find a different group. Literally, every other class in the game should be pulling before the cleric. Pacify is not a green light for cleric pulls.
Just be a badass Cleric and pull, tank and heal
Lol. Love it.
Suck at everquest? Me?
1. You play on the Daybreak TLPs and kronoquest 🤦♂
Would you have changed your opinions if you hadn't been multi-boxing and instead had other irl players in your group?
Naw, the points are directed at real players. I was just very poorly boxing for b-roll footage.
I think I’m better than you.
let me explain why this video sucks... jk but haha
(Revelation 20:11-15)And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11-15)
PoK books? which zone is this?
LOL - people are still playing EverQuest - wow.
Heck yeah
It really has no right to be going, but it's still surprisingly good. Real shame that MMO's only got worse over the last 25 years.
this game looks terrible
It is actually pretty decent, but it changed a lot over the years
A lot of the devs from EQ went and joined another company you may have heard of....Blizzard
WoW got made because EQ broke the ground it walks on
Your mana bar should stay full. Log out.. Sheesh, this looks awful. At least go play wow classic .
If you think you need full mana all the time, you're probably bad at the game. And that's okay if you're new and learning, less so if it's willful incompetence. A full mana bar means all your potential mana recovery is wasted. All the mana regeneration buffs in the world do 0 for you if your mana is full.
Do things, help the group, don't sit there idle at 100% mana. You don't always need to go full sweaty tryhard mode, but you should almost never be full mana if your group is not on a break.
i forgot my old login information for my p99 account. how well do mods work with you to get back into your account? i had a 58 wizard with 10s of thousands of just gold, and magick items to twink out any new character i might want to start.
"Is your group not doing enough DPS? Do you have a Rogue in the group? Well, not much you can do other than cry, because Rogues are bad, and you should consider kicking the Rogue out of the group and picking up literally any other class because they'll do more DPS and bring more utility."
🥲 [cries in Rogue]
That's for tlp only, on live servers you always want a rogue for the insane dps at all lvls.
@@MrKveite1 TLP is all that matters, though. :)
I lost my best friend to this monstrosity some 25 years ago! 🥹
So if I really don't want to pull, what are the best classes for me? Rogue, Warrior, Shaman?
