Help out all your friends that suck at EverQuest, and send them this video!! Probably should have mentioned that I'm speaking largely in the context of EQ TLP servers, and can respect some dynamics change on P99 / Quarm, but many of the fundamentals stay the same. How to pull Trakanon in 1 minute - EverQuest

This is a 1 minute guide on how you pull Trakanon to the banish spot in Old Sebilis. It is possible to do with 1 person, but can be finicky. Useful
Lol. Love it.
I main a necro but I am too casual to raid anymore. When i was raiding 20+ years ago, necs were much more uncommon as mains (most people had them as an alt for soloing) and there'd only be a small handful in a large raid. This was when pets pulled aggro (like a player) and DoTs did not stack player to player, so only ine copy of any DoT would land on a mob. This relegated us to twitching healers and other DPS classes.
In classic ERA I played monk and the only stats tht mattered were: AC HP ATK rating
For Strength, the reason why the damage increases at the rate it does is because that attack number (the left number) causes you to hit for max damage more often. Mob AC can get in the way on that return but you can't be more correct on Strength matters most. If you can afford to get Dex and not sacrifice strength if you have an Ivyshae Blade, the 27 delay of the weapon does help the return on proc chance. The base chance to proc for any weapon begins with the actual weapon delay score. The slower the weapon, the higher the base chance to proc. This is a change that was made in EverQuest years after Trilogy Era EQ and is a source of helpful power in a TLP setting. Your eyes do not fool you: 2handers do in fact proc more often.
I should add, procs on Bows are hugely able to be ignored. Even though bows have a slow delay, Bows do not work like melee weapons in regard to procs. But, as was explained so well in the video, Dex does Bow damage well despite that.
I've played EQ since launch and I've never seriously played TLP until Tormax. The server is dead but I love the community. I raid with OM and am having a blast! What I'm finding is, there are a lot of people that are very new by comparison on TLP, at least on this server - and that's ok! Be kind and pass your knowledge of them on to others. I find this is adding to the charm of playing TLP and I may in the future consider doing this again. I hope players that are newer to EQ find these videos, they are constructive and positive in a way players should be with one another.
The AC from agility would reduce the max amount of chances the mob rolls high numbers....you are missing a key point there.
Dex is an important stat for skilling up melee skills, too.
lol i could never stop raging at ogres because i rolled a freakin half elf warrior and frontal stun immunity on top of 142 STA or whatever was the biggest advantage ever at least they couldnt gain XP for crap and were KOS everywhere. i had a guise though so it was like... fuck me
Maybe it works differently at higher levels or maybe it works differently in whatever version of Everquest is being tested in the video, but when I played back in 1999 and when I played on the Project1999 server I would notice a gigantic difference when I got buffed by a shaman. Something like an extra 100 strength and dexterity at level 20 made me go from killing mobs unbuffed in like a minute to killing them in about 30 seconds. If I got haste then it would be even faster.
I called the proc chance purely because I have been digging into the TAKP source code here and there. Your proc chance starts at 0.25ppm at 0 dex and rises linearly to 2ppm at 255 dex. I think a lot of people forget just how huge the jump in power was in PoP. Procs in particular I remember SoE having to do a lot of tuning during PoP because they were causing intense server lag during prime raid times.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27) Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalms 34:18)
(Revelation 20:11-15)And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11-15)
PoK books? which zone is this?
casters are super powerful in classic eq though?
there really are no guides for EQ anymore and I feel like a lot of people don't really know how to play EQ well anyway
Sorry but the instances and DZ's are def a neccessary evil, and i dont see it that way. It allows players to have a chance at the loot, vs when on old servers, if you were on the server with Afterlife or Fires of Heaven, you had NO chance of getting the loot. They locked down the bosses and didnt share. Sorry, but because people cant play nice, and not be dicks, DZ's are needed so other players have a chance at the mobs. I found the Mischief rules fun, esp since you gotta fight to bot armies on these servers, even when they are "true" box. Solve the box army problem, and things improve. Probelm with smaller raid sizes, is you going to leave a lot of classes out of spots. Unless you solve that with mechanics, but you know people will only take META groupings, leaving a lot of players in the dust. I dont like the 72 size, but it at least allows people to get in. Would you bring a Druid, or Ranger(pre Luclin) in a 30 man raid? Bundle a lot of expacs together, I do like Velious starting point, but I feel Luclin would be a great starting point. Lots of options for starting areas and leveling. Can make this a 12-16 week period because of all the content to go through, and then bundle PoP/LoY/LDoN/Gates. and go from there.
Stats are very minor indeed which is a good and bad thing. Good because performance won't suffer but gains also feel pointless. The most important thing are ac, hp, haste and mana regen (int does not give regen).
at least in classic everquest, AC doesnt affect the rate that attacks will miss. it only reduces the damage received. the hit rate is determined by the weapon skill, offense skill, and defense skill only
2 minutes in and i have to disagree with your methods. The level mitigation in this game is absolutely enormous. So testing with a mob almost 30 levels below you is not going to give any realistic results. That being said, the only stats in the trilogy worth chasing is always going to be AC and HP. The only class that truly cares about mana pool size is cleric.
Yeah I feel super useless in raids as a druid main. There's not a lot to do for me, I'm literally just there to port people before the raid starts and after the raid ends :(
I never played EQ I went straight from UO to the next bandwagon my friends were playing mingled with Shadowbane and EVE for a bit before we all went to WOW. But I dont know if I will translate well into EQ I raid well when I decide to but mostly hate it. I started off playing MUDs so I was used to being a soloist slash enchanter kind of player. I hear crafting is worth it but it sounds long and tedious like UO Bulk orders etc.
It's funny, cause back in the day the suggestion for ranger's was that agi was important for... reasons. Build guides even claimed it to be the stat to pump.
There was a belief at the time that Agility off set the fact that in 2001, Rangers had the same AC as Druids. I know, crazy huh? There's a reason why Ranger jokes exist. I lived it. Cast snare, agro mob, save the group from a runner but died in the process, repeated it was terrible. The class has so much more ability to survive with a 250 cap on Defense at level 60 versus 200. Those were very dark days...
For all the praise the early years of the game get, this is horrendous design. I mean, in the end, you mostly wanted Crit, attack or spell power in WoW as well, but Dex, Strength, Intellect and Wisdom were far, FAR from useless. And they mostly didn't know what they were doing either.
the question I have is if Stam is consistent thoughout classes, something ppl tend to forget, it was common to have differnt HP Gains based off of Stam and such based on class, in fact it was common stats did differnt things for differnt classes in AD&D For example 2.0/2.5 D&D Mind you Constitution was drasticly differnt and changed its importants based on your class, Example a Wizard got HALF there Con Mod rounded down, Meaning he only got +1 HP per level for every 4 points in Con, so at 14 con you got +1 HP at 18 Con you had +2 HP otherwise it was pointless For Clerics and such it was better but not as good as say a Fighter or such which got full benefits of Con, and whats weird was how some classes like Monks and Bards treated certain attributes I am woundering if EQ is a old enough game to have done something differnt for race/class like say AD&D Did
And how is it in actual eq with all expansion have stats their the same outcome you claim as in the past or in a pp server?
Get mobs not a bonus too hit when they hit you in the back? Because when it is true that makes your claim obsolete.
35% hit rate to 32% hit rate is actually a 9.375% improvement. If you have 100hp and 1 hit = 1 hp, 35% hit rate means 286 swings to kill you, 32% hit rate means 313 swings to kill you.
What about facing the target? Doesn't AGI affect blocking as well?
hmmm why i suck at everquest well i havent played it in over 20 years lol
My two main classes back in the day was my shadow knight and my shaman loved playing both of them
test dex on a shadow knight
Can you do attack rating ?
druid slander is crazy
I had high hopes when I decided to join the Teek Everquest server, but unfortunately, it has been a huge letdown. The most glaring issue is the extremely low population. It feels like I’m interacting with the same few players repeatedly, and it’s hard not to wonder if they’re all server admins just trying to keep the illusion of activity alive. The lack of communication among players is staggering. You’d expect an MMORPG to be a vibrant community full of interactions and camaraderie, but here it’s like talking to a wall. Conversations are almost nonexistent, and when they do happen, they’re rarely about the game itself-mostly just discussions about money and transactions. This focus on profit over community is disheartening and makes the entire experience feel soulless. Everquest itself is a legendary game that deserves to thrive, but the way it’s being managed on this server is contributing to its decline. It feels like the magic of Everquest is being sucked dry by a lack of genuine passion from those running the show. Instead of fostering a community and engaging players, it feels like the focus is solely on making a quick buck. If you’re looking for a true Everquest experience, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. The Teek server simply doesn’t capture the spirit of what made the game great. It’s a dying game, and the people managing it are doing a disservice to its legacy. Save your time and find a server where the community thrives, because here, it’s anything but alive.
I'm getting back into EQ (both l and ll). Thanks for the info!
the kids who grew up playing this are still playing this now with jobs and families, we aint got time to grind one level in 5 hours
Could you test agility with a mob closer to your level? I feel like that might make a difference.
I think your AC from behind is just gear not stats. Your AC sitting is 1 which is why you get hit 99.9% of the times you are sitting
Welcome to 2001. If you raided, we knew all this in Velious, which is why even casters (necro main here) focused on hp gear only. Nothing else mattered.
most important thing for AGI is to not have under 75. So ogres almost always wanna put 5 points into agi at char creation being under 75 is like a 20-30 AC Penalty and slight movment penalty. After that point agi is wholly useless except for buffing yourself as a buffer for any agi debuffs so u dont fall below 75.
Imo krono is the biggest issue on tlps, this will and can't be fixed due to the revenue it brings to the server though.
Looks at the chain pulling I do as bard working in mezing AND buffing and thinking to myself "yeah, I likes pulling as a bard."
Unfortunately what this video fails to calculate is if you're calculating the agility in a vacuum like this it looks worse than it ends up being. Agility dents to get you over certain break-points with higher end encounters for both avoidance and mitigation. Testing vs the needlite is a bad test because a lot of what's going into the equations for the one being hit are not being accounted for here and a ton of extra not being hit is happening due to level differences. Playing tanks in raiding situations you notice when you gain 5 points of agility even though the piece you equipped has 1 less hard AC on it because you gained it back and a little more through agi. It also bears out in parses and though you might not think small % boosts mean much Everquest is a game of inches. Gain an inch a little better, gain an inch a little better, gain an inch a little better, eventually you gain that inch that suddenly changes the whole calculation. A few inches after that and it changes again. Your goal isn't to hit 255 in a stat, it's to gain just that one more inch, it's small but not useless. In terms of useless stats Charisma comes to mind. They figured out at some point that it was bugged since the beginning so it wasn't actually doing anything for chanters and bards until stat cap increases and then very little. Level gains however were doing things that were supposed to happen with said increases that were similar to what charisma claimed it was doing. It went pretty much unnoticed until Daybreak took it over.
I mean your most skilled player should probably be pulling, but i wil disagree on tank pulling after say mid level expansions When tank survivability vastly outweighs any other archetypes and pull sizes are filling extended target it does make sense for a tank to pull. But by then itndoesnt make sense to sit in one spot, your entire group should be onnthe move all the time and your tank should be filling the extended target
The difference between a Washed gamer dad and a S tier player playing a paladin is crazy. Especially once you get to the mid game expansions after GOD.
Dude, wtf do you expect? You now have 4-12 weeks to complete an expansion that gave you 6mo. to a year before. Literally the only good point you made was the thing about casters and resists on raids. Having certain mobs completely resistant is just retarded, always has been. That's not a TLP issue though, it's an EQ issue... it's always been there and always will be. I play on live, and I farm NToV with my 105 necro for my alts.... at 105, he STILL can't even dispell a little fairy dragon puss because it's completely immune to magic. That's NUTS. Meanwhile, my pet chews thru him in 2 hits. So dumb, but it won't ever change... except maybe in EQ3!
bro your content is AMAZING. straight love for jooooo! The game is so goddamn easy.. its so fucking sad. OOG cleric healing as IM A FUCKING CLERIC IN GROUP CAN I HEAL ?? LETME PLAY MY CLASS. shits wild fam.
I mean, I'm 5min into the video and the stats are effectively doubling everything?
If my memory serves, the higher level you go, the more Dexterity and Agility you also require for them to really take effect. So a level 1 may get way more from 10 Agility, than someone who is level 50. While other stats is the opposite where their effects are stronger based on higher levels. But since the Stat Cap is 255 (Till lvl 61-75 which will add a total of 75 more to the stat cap for a total of 330), and you need about 6 times that, for Agility and Dexterity to be of decent to great use. Yeah they fall off quickly. However this is only if my memory is correct, I might just be mixing another game up with Everquest, and misremembering things.
I'll be impressed if you can show us how to kill Trakanon in 1 minute. 🙂
lol
Oh my Gawd, you ith thooooow thmart, lil Yeant! Bleth you, Childe!! I bet when you join a group people mysteriously have to go do other shit pretty quickly. You sound insufferable... I do, however, think you got the title of this video correct, 'Why YOU Suck at EverQuest'. Do me a favor, go look up the Dunning/Kruger Effect.
