Back when I made my wood elf ranger in around 2000~2002, I didn't even think of the possibility worshiping Tunare would make me unwelcome in certain cities. I fondly remember trying to quest and farm my way into the Iksar city. Planning on logging in for the first time in a decade or so, this video looks helpful.
You quested more in this video than i did in my entire 13 year journey on EQ (except for doing the epic weapon quests) hahaha. This brings me so much joy and definitely considering hopping back into Norrath! And I lied, I guess I did a ton of quests, but generally only for keys/zone entries and definitely not so early in the game!
Thank you for this video. Just started playing again...back after 20+ years lol and wish i would have seen this before i staggered myself around trying to figure stuff out. Lol
I’ve recently started playing EQ for the first time ever, after many years of WoW and LotRO and am really enjoying myself. Thank you for this video - it’s given me some really helpful tips. Have just hit 51 on my paladin playing solo with a merc and following the “Heroes Journey” achievement quests, although I’m aware eventually this strategy will stop being viable. One question: at what point do you start getting decent gear that isn’t bright blue or green? That stats on this stuff is far better than the bits I’m getting from quests, but it just looks a bit goofy…
You can craft or buy Prismatic dyes to tint your armor a uniform color if you want. Or buy a uniform set of defiant armor from sellers in the bazaar. At 75 or so you start getting different kinds of heroic armor.
I'm usually unable to really get into older games due to being used to modern QOL and whatnot, but this game had always interested me for a long time so I decided to say screw it and try it out a few days ago and honestly I've been hooked. I cant really say why but something about this game is just so enjoyable and relaxing.
For newbies, there is a great feature in the map called "Zone Find" which will show you how to get to a zone starting from the zone you are currently in. There are SO many zones in EQ...It's a great feature that helped me find my way without getting lost.
Rogues can add backstab to their autoattack. With intimidation skill, you can run a mob off and keep backstabbing it as you go! I recommend that all returning players use the tutorial for new toons, in order to familiarize yourselves with new functionality. My husband had so much fun in that starter zone, he made dozens of toons on multiple servers.
The biggest pain I had was finding a group pre-planes. I started the day before pop with only the trilogy for a year. I never played a good XP bonus character, so I had no concept of a penalty while soloing in not great gear up to like mid 50s
I decided to play again after 24 years while I am injured and can’t walk. (I only played original-> kunark) This was the most helpful thing I have found so far! And, only hours after you posted it! Thank you This game is way more involved now! Plus you level up so much faster, and don’t need to corpse hunt? Does that change at some point as you level up?
You never need to get a corpse unless you want to get resurrected. Resurrection gives you back most of your lost XP from death. You can have your corpse summoned for FREE by a corpse summoner located in the guild lobby. You level slower once you reach level 70+
I forgot how much EQ lost when they super-accelerated the stats & ease of play. Your video perfectly illustrates this. I’ve been considering moving back to live from p99, but I got bored with live and it’s “trophy for everyone” gameplay just from watching your walkthrough. Don’t get me wrong, your video is excellent, and perfectly accomplishes preparing new or retuning players. I’m just an old grouch.
I think I stopped playing eq in the late 90s or around 2000. I moved to eq2 for a while. I was in EQ long enough that it had this same starter zone when I left. Man, this digs up old memories.
Also, for spell macros to avoid having to press buttons, make your last line /keypress 3 (or whatever the macro line is cause I've been gone years) and then your 3 is the same macro but the last line will be /keypress 2 to go back to the original macro, but make sure your first lines are a pause otherwise it'll get all jacked up trying to cast while on GCD
@FezzelwhigsForum hmmm there is a way to do that. It's been many years since I've played so i cannot remember, but I know there is/was. Unless that was a macroquest thing and I'm misremembering, which is totally possible.
extremely helpful video for a new player. remark - i just did your steps in the PoK, and that gnome guy only gave me the 10 slot backpack (which is the main purpose of doing it anyway i suppose) without the satchel. As for the trader satchels, they are sellable for 1 plat from npc merchant in the same room with the quest giver's competitor, so if one needs one they are almost free of charge. bristlebane
great vid thank you, watched most of it. Long time EQ2 player, going back to 2011, its changed alot...how's the free to play content on eq1 currentlty?
I did some FTP account content a few months ago. It's pretty good. You only really see a difference at level 51+ because you don't get Autogrant AA when you're FTP. The Gold account mercs are also much better. FTP mercs are fine for soloing and casual play though.
MY DUDE, thank you for this video. I haven't played since 2006ish, can't remember when, but it was after the UI overhaul and the current version of that interface is overwhelming so your tips on that are really helpful. I'm still watching the video, but I wanted to say thanks for that. My biggest issue at the moment is display settings with my 4k 16:9 screen and getting everything to play nice. God forbid I alt-tab, it just breaks the game and I have to restart it.
Depending on your computer and operating system you may need to run the game in compatibility mode. OR if you're currently running in compatibility mode and having lots of lag and issues then turn off compatibility mode to see if it helps. It's what I had to do after recent updates. Now it's all running great.
@@RedSiBaron I'm also on Windows 10 and I used to use compatibility mode, but it cause a lot of lag after recent updates so I turned it off, It may be different for you, but remember if it makes the game worse then turn it off. You may also want to update graphics drivers. Good luck.
@@FezzelwhigsForum great info, I'll give it a try. Also, just fyi, I just did the nebbo quest and there was no traders satchel reward, just the sturdy pack.
Great video. I havent played Everquest since 2007. I was wondering if there is server around for the classic game? I would love to play the EQ1 classic game again. Thanks.
Man I been playing since Day 4 of this game, and just learned about /waypoint the other day. No idea if that has been in since the beginning or not, but sure would have made finding corpses a lot easier back in the day.
Having played Everquest 1 since 1999 (still have my original accounts), the problem is that once you get to around level 95 you hit a stonewall and are forced to multi-box in order to progress. Back in the day it was fine because it was easy to group, but today there are no groups unless you are at the current endgame -- this is a huge issue without a catch up mechanic. Don't get me wrong, what I loved about EQ1 was that you had to group, it was a hard game! But back then a lot of people played, these days the population is very low and most people are either boxing or they are at the endgame, and this means no group.
PS: I have a 100 enchanter and 100 mage (on 2 different accounts). Neither of them can solo the latest content, I can duo some of it, but not endgame. So basically EQ1 is over for me unless it gets people grouping at level 100 content. I believe max level is 125, so that won't happen.
EQ 1 is my absolute favorite game, live, if you start from scratch youre not getting a group and trying to get groups to lvl or progress your character, its literally impossible and TLPs are full of krono sellers and PLers, and again if you are left behind its impossible to catch up.
I just did the quest again with a FREE to play account and it works fine. it gave me the 50% weight Reduction bag. However, he only gave the weight reduction bag. He doesn't seem to give the heavy trader satchel if your free to play, But I'm fine with that. The weight reduction one is better anyway.

This is immensely helpful information! Thank you, I am returning to retail after....forever. This is going to help a lot. :)
Loving these videos! I'm feeling like I'm in my 20s with my first machine and in this game all over again! Definitely watching it all!
Thanks for watching.
I really like how you encourage people to read the dialogue. I try and read it all, at least the first time.
Thanks. Dialog can really help a player know where to go and the writers went to a lot of trouble to write that dialog.
@@FezzelwhigsForum And the lore of EQ is vast and incredible! It's worth reading!

Thanks again, Fez! You're gonna make a player out of me yet. I'm following the Bazaar quest step by step. 💜
Glad to hear it.

I feel my experiences in FFXI made this game not as difficult of a transition as some

My main back in the day was an Iksar Monk, follower of Cazic Thule. The amount of faction work I had to do to go anywhere other than Cabolis...lol
Me too!
And don't forget the xp penalty for being iksar... Really a pain in the hell levels
