They're not independent. They're signed to Sumerian Records. In fact, it's because of Sumerian Records that has been heavily promoting them from the beginning they are so popular now.

As I have listend to Slaughter To Prevail more and more lately I have realised that they blend Death metal and Nu-Metal more so than Death Metal and Hardcore (aka Deathcore). In my opinion at least, I think many parts and riffs has Slipknot vibes, like the one at 02:01. Glad I'm not the only one to hear it! Not that weird though, if I'm not misstaken Slipknot has influenced Alex Terrible alot, and probably the band and the genre too, Slipknots influence on modern metal is not to be unrecognized.
