You can set up to refresh each page turn for ghost free images, set refresh to the bottom or top button at .5 of a second and page turn, so when you press to change page will also refresh page
Thanks for the review. The big add for the Kobo for me is the note taking and annotating option and the Boox does not have that. The Android universe stuff is of no interest to me ... personal choice. I just want a reader and the ability to annotate is nice!
So conclusion, Boox Page because of limitations of color screens and battery but Boox Go color 7 if color is very important to you. I have had a Kobo Forma, Libra 2 (old version), Kindle Oasis (7"), Voyage (my favorite traveling but battery life was 1/2 the PW), Paperwhite (last version old), and Nook Glow. I have been trying to get out of Amazon lock but they pulled me back with the Oasis when on sale right before the last version, $150 32GB so couldn't pass it up, bought 2. Really it is my favorite as a eReader but Amazon screwed the operating system (Luckily I had not connected one for months and heard about it and still have the way I want it to work). So I have 2, one with the new OS and one with the old and I will never update it. It is nice to have the KU function of the updated one but... I read KU and comics (rarely) on iPad mini. So having the Kindle app on the Boox is very tempting and the novelty of color is even more tempting. My sister's Paperwhite has stopped syncing so time for a new(er) eReader and we have been looking at the Boox Page. I think this review has cemented that decision. Thanks it was informative.
Unfortunately when A device like the Boox has so much versatility it brings complexity, but the positive thing is far more custom settings, and the biggest is colour adjustability which the others don't have, but in the long run can be the best choice out of them all if you get it right, and the great thing can customize how you like it
I was tempted to get the Go but i had the Page a while back and it seemed like when i switched between the kindle app and pocket app and the boox reader, i had to fiddle with settings and it got tiresome. I do like color so i settled on the libra colour and while i dont love the plastic build, i like the ease of use, the pocket integration and the overall user experience with kobo software. I also like that it has android app support that allows us to have more functionality and scope of improvements in the future.
I've ordered both (in white) and sent the Libra Colour back. The only thing that is better on the Libra is the frontlight. But the frontlight on the Boox is also ok, just not as bright...which I don't need. I've experienced no ghosting at all in the Kindle App with the animation filter on 750 and 'regal mode'... the NEO app has no ghosting with "depth refresh" on. Really an awesome device❤
I’m holding off buying a colour e-reader until Kindle release their colour Kindle in 2025 which will use a different colour technology. But the Kobo does tempt me as the UI is great for serious readers.
@@davidr1431 Apparently they are working on using Gallery 3 and working hard to optimise it. It should provide more vivid colours and a less-dark white background for text. Worth the wait, I hope!

Yupps, I would, any day of the year, as I don't really care about color content on these devices, and the Sage simply fits all my reader needs perfectly, despite the short battery life.

I originally had the kobo and swapped it out for the Boox for the versatility but I’m a little disappointed because of the reasons you stated. The image quality in 3rd party apps is just bad and I can’t figure out the best settings to go with each app. I hope they can fix these issues with software updates.
I configured the settings that pretty much eliminates ghosting when reading comics/colored content. My use case is in the kindle app but I would imagine this would work for other apps. 1. Open E-Ink Center 2. Set refresh mode to Regal 3. Open the More settings menu at the top left 4. While under the HD tab, set the following slider values: Drag your refresh to 1 second; Full-refresh by click count to 0; Animation filter time to something large like 800 or so. I’m pretty sure it’s that last setting that gives the device some buffer time to really adjust the color fully. I do see some ghosting when the next screen has black background when coming from a light color, but it is still very much improved. Hope this helps!
I much perfer the Clara, the 7" readers are heavier when also using a cover. The 6" has better portability and much more comfy to read, especially reading in bed
I tend to disagree. The Clara is definitely better for slipping into a pocket, and so it’s more portable, but for reading; the asymmetrical design with a good spot to grip and page turn buttons wins out for usability.
Does the ghosting issue in the boox also happens in plain b&w books or just when viewing images or manga? I dont mind some ghosting in the occasional picture in the book, but if it happens in every plain page it would be annoying...
Great video about all three readers as I was eyeing them for the USB-c socket and that they do colour. Unfortunately most of my ebooks are on kindle or the bookwalker app so I'm jumping between phone and Kindle Oasis (with it's annoying micro USB socket) but yeah ur video did get me wondering just how useful is colour for ebook reading and if I'm tech savvy enough to get bookwalker running on any of the 3 devices.
Boox 7 does not have worst colour, it has the best as its totally adjustable, its just harder to achieve the image quality, but twink it right cleans the floor of the others

I returned my Kobo Libra Colour today after two days of trying to rationalise that lower resolution,l and significantly darker screen don’t bother me that much, but ultimately they did. In comparison to Kindle Scribes screen and overall build quality Kobo Library Colour was just not worth it. Wish there was Libra 2 available to buy somewhere.
IMHO color e-ink isn't quite there yet. I've checked Pocketbook Era Color and the Boox Go Color 7 but I think all Kaleido 3 devices are the same - screen uniformity is tragic - dark spots and huge yellowish gradient just breaks the deal for me. Colors also are not that vibrant as here on this (and other) UA-cam movies. It's much more dull and washed out. I have returned two Era Color till now and I think I will return Go Color as well, reverting back to Carta black and white screens until next generation of color e-ink shows up.
Regarding the color representations in videos. Have you considered that maybe your display is boosting colors? Virtually all smart OLED devices have artificially boosted colors to make the display more "vivid" and "exciting". But they also have the option of configuring them to display colors in a more faithful and less "exciting" way. This may be helpful to get closer to the more objective image and expectations when researching devices.

I also rewatched on iPad 2020 and still this isn't what I see on Go Color that's in my hands. Oh and one more thing: reading comics on such small screen, even Evangelion which was released in small booklet format, is not easy.
I have had my kobo glo since 8 years back. Heard a lot about Libra color and that color had improved a lot so ordered it. Sooooo disappointed. Darker screen. Less contrast. And for me the worst. Screen is not just darker. You can see the color sub pixels giving a a moire pattern that affects the sharpness of the black. Basically my 8 y old reader has better reading quality (slower update of course) And what was the nice thing I got. Well it was not nice at all. It’s not just that the colors are washed out. Some nice pastels colors would be good. No due to the nature. It’s dirty washed out colors. Take yellow as example. It’s lemon yellow with a hint of grey = yellow green ish dirty yellow. Also due to the resolution there is really not a lot of sharpness. Again if I compare to my 8y old bw where it actually almost can look as good as a normal print this color e ink does not get close to any printed book or any lcd displays. It’s just inferior to other mediums in all ways. What I would like to do is compare my 8y old kobo with the Clara bw carta 1300. For me having better contrast and also even quicker update than the Libra color sound amazing. And I hope the success of the Libra color will not result on less sales or models using carta 1300

did you fix the ghosting, think OP said something about long press or something? Im on the fence atm between this and Kobo

Definitely! I tinkered a little bit with the settings and got to have no ghosting in graphic novels or comics on the kindle app.

Kobo still has Ghosting, but its not common, but can still be some at times
Had the first BOOX colour. Had 3 replacments, and all poor screen quailty and all had bright spots, so was reluctant to go with another BOOX

How would you compare the screens of the Bigme 751c and the Boox nova 3? i know the boox is older and the bigme is a bit less expensive
