🖊️🖊️ Great review! I recently bought a 2nd Gen Kindle, just to see if I like ereaders. However, I found out there's no way for me to register the device on my Kindle account, because it's too old and has no internet. 😅 UA-cam came in clutch and helped me through about 95% of the process. The other 5% was just fiddling with the Calibre plug-ins. That's just to say that I agree with you, in that downloading from Kindle and side-loading into another device is pretty painless! No Kindle serial number needed! 🙌
I'm with you on the brightness. I have a PPW5 and I have it on max 10 brightness and 8 only at night. On the Kobo I read in dark mode and have it on 14% in the morning and 10% at night. And my eyes go like 👀My point is, I love the options, options, options.

🖋omg i love your video, you showed so many cool features that i haven't seen in other reviews! like the stats thing - i'm here for it :D Does your stylus magnetically attach to the body of the reader? Do you know if this is a feature of the kobo stylus too? Thanks!
Long term Kobo reader (K Libra H2O) and now have the KL Colour. As someone moving from Kindle to Kobo, you marvel at the features but they've mostly been present on lots of old Kobo readers, including my old b&w unit. Main pro's of upgrade: new chip (so much faster than my old one) and now USB C. My favs. Also, colour obviously (meh) and stylus integration which I haven't used so far. Loved your couple of laughs; I had to rewind a few times to be sure I heard the c word 😂. Nearly choked
Does the white case distract you when reading? Normally the black case helps me focus on the page better, but the white is so pretty. Very good review btw ❤
Great video, thanks for all the hard work! I love the idea of the libra, but I think I might try the Clara Color instead because I love the idea of tossing it in my crossbody.
@ yeah it’s a little smaller, more so the size of a kindle basic, but since I plan to keep my paper white because I’m such a big KU reader I think it’ll be nice to have a slightly smaller device to carry around. I also didn’t realize it’s $100 cheaper than the Libra.
@@AdventuresInPages yeah i love the price points of the Kobos tbh like the libra has so many features and is cheaper than the colorsoft and i love that the next color option is also decently priced! i know KU is a big factor for so many people i really hope some more indie authors migrate to be on both in the future but its hard for them because of amazons exclusivitiy clauses which limits them from doing so. hoping the kobo gaining traction will encourage them to loosen their terms but i know amazon sucks and probably wont lol
@ I do too. For the longest time I thought that kobo was only available outside the US so I’m hoping that now that they have more US marketing going on they’ll gain traction.
I’ve had my kindle for 5 months but recently, I realize that I wanted an E ink notebook. But the super note is 300$ and that’s a little bit much for me so I’m going to switch to this color kobo
24:35 great video!! I’ve already watch the video on migrating from Kindle to Kobo. My question is does the stats work for the migrated book, if it is in kepub format?
Don't know if it's expensive in the US, but I live in Mexico and the Kobo is waaay more expensive than the paperwhite. Then, I was like: Ok, let's buy it now or never! *It's definitely worth the money. I loved that you mentioned the migraine (I have it too) and sometimes the kindle made me feel uncomfortable when I went to the next page (or even doing anything else), because the "flash" it's more annoying? But in the Kobo I don't feel like that, just normal... Maybe just my perception. Thanks for your complete review!
If you still have a kindle and are reading on it while you wait for your kobo, you can turn off the page refresh setting that causes the flash in the kindle’s settings
Thanks for the great review! I have a stupid question about the cover. How do you put it in sleep mode without the flip kind of cover? I've always had one but am thinking of just getting the clear back cover. And do the screen protectors protect it well enough if you throw it in your bag?
You just tap the power button on the back! Or if you have your settings to automatically turn off the screen mine will turn off after 5 mins to save battery so if I put it down to do something and forget I was reading (adhd lol) it’ll turn off ☺️ I think the screen protector is decent quality that I got it’s just off Amazon and would probably be fine in your bag if you’re not super rough on your stuff but throwing it in with like keys probably isn’t a good idea😂
Question, I’ve read and saw reviews that when making annotations on books, the annotations disappear. Is this your experience? If so, were you able to fix it?
@@TheMultiHobbyGuy they will “disappear” if you change the font size but there should be a little mark to show you there were annotations there and it saves the settings under which you made the annotation so you can switch back to see them. Basically if you change the size you’re rearranging the entire placement of books so when you write on the page to keep them where you placed them this is how kobo handles that. I recommend finding a font and font size that you really like and want to stick with prior to reading and annotating books :)
Hi, thanks for the review ☺ have you tried to edit a pdf export from google docs or overdrive? I have heard you can’t make annotations on pdfs 😨🤔 thanks!!!
Have you been able to find a case that actually fits it? I ordered a clear case & a flip case that said they’re for the Libra Colour but both have the charging port hole in the wrong place!
I just had to return my Kobo Color. It would not turn on. Would show charging forca second then off. No way to know if charged since cannot turn on. Hoping they stick to their word and I get a new one not refurbished.
@@amyolsen2838 honestly I would recommend it just incase. I saw someone on Reddit who scratched their screen pretty badly on accident by putting it in their backpack and it didn’t have any protection lol idk if they stylus itself is going to scratch it I mean it’s not sharp and it’s designed to go together so 🤷🏻♀️
FYI, that battery advice that you read online is not accurate for modern lithium batteries. It is recommended to keep them between 20 and 80% to maximise longevity, not to let it drain fully. The batteries are calibrated from the factory and already 'know' how much juice they have. Overall really nice video, love your personality and speaking style! 🖊
hi! I don't know if I missed it, but are you able to hide book/chapter progression while reading the book like on the kindle? seeing the pages while I'm really makes me really anxious and stressed to read faster lol so it's important for me to hide that
As a migraine sufferer as well I tend to use dark mode on my kindle more often than not; how is dark mode on the Kobo? Been thinking of getting one but most reviews I see don’t mention dark mode.
There is dark mode! It’s a bit different from kindle in that the dark mode only affects the books itself, the menu remains light unless I’m just missing the setting to do the entire device in dark mode but in the reading settings there is a dark mode option which turns all books into dark mode when open to the pages :) I’ll look into this a bit more and see if the entire device can go into dark mode or not! I can post a short this week of showing off the dark mode 😁
@ thank you! I started reading on my iPhone on Dark mode because that helped me read on there longer without triggering a migraine but I still could trigger one after too long, so that’s why I got a kindle but I miss seeing my covers in color and would love to be able to annotate directly in the book.
@@themoodyreader43 to be fully transparent I JUST sent mine back because one side of the screen the warmth adjustment was off so it was split down the middle one side cooler and one warmer. But within 20 mins of chatting with customer support I had processed my replacement and less than 15 hours later I had the return label to print out and my device has already been shipped off and now I’m just awaiting the new device which they’re sending me a brand new one and not a refurbished one. (Which I will make a video on my experience with customer service and getting a replacement)
(I just noticed the screen issue within the last couple days bc I’ve been stuck in bed with an injury thus staring at my kobo much more frequently to notice)
@ I also have been searching and found pdfs that be downloaded to use as templates. Have you download pdfs and such to read? If so, was it easy? I am really leaning towards this for a planner and ereader big time. I am trying to get away from Amazon as much as I can and little bits at a time
@ thanks for the info. I appreciated the video and helps me understand the device more. I didn’t want anything too much bigger than my kindle paperwhite for reading and planning needs. And I think this device hits the nail on the head. Thank you again.
@ I thoroughly enjoyed your review. I loved how you focused on the everyday function and not all the other things like processing speeds and all the tech things I don’t really understand. Haha
I just can't stop watching reviews for kobo even though I am 100% sure I am not going to buy one. I did some reseach on different ereaders and seems like a lot of them build white versions of their devices different from the black version, kind of equivalent to the difference between paperwhite and kindle basic when they put an extra layer of screen to have just one smooth surface for the screen+bezel (which is why a lot of the white devices are a little more fragile with a clearer screen). So true about not wanting to move the Kindle library to another system. I just love the design of the kobo and I heard many good things about the system, but I just need something that can install the kindle app, have a bigger storage, and being light at the same time. I read mostly graphic novels and manga on my 32GB paperwhite 10th gen, and it's slowly running slow and out of storage. I am planning to buy a white Boox go color 7 , I don't like the silver grey buttons it has, but I guess it's the one that fits my needs.
I just checked and Kobo should have the same build for both colors, this explains why everyone said the screen looks better than the Kindle colorsoft and sometimes even better than kindle paperwhite.
I just sent my Kobo Libra Color back to KOBO. I have a Kindle Oasis, and the Oasis beats it hands down; not worth the upgrade. The real reason I sent it back, though, was KOBO's support/customer service is horrible. Logging in, getting books, etc.... frustrating. Even sending the Kobo back is a hassle. I had to send pictures, wait three days for labels, ghosted by support. Pure hell. This brand is hell.
And that’s your opinion. I have had nothing but terrible experiences with Amazon customer service. They essentially told me “too bad so sad” when I’ve had issues with previous devices. And the oasis is discontinued so you can’t buy them new anymore 🤷🏻♀️ you’re allowed not to like kobo but I’m confused why you’re watching kobo reviews when you’ve already tried it out and made up your mind that you don’t like it or want one lol

I love the idea of the libra, but I think I might try the Clara Color instead because I love the idea of tossing it in my crossbody.
That’s fair!! The Clara is more like paperwhite size I’m pretty sure
@ same! If you get the Clara you’ll have to let me know how you like it 💗🫶🏻
I’m so sold on this, it’s on the Christmas list
I hope you get one lol I love it 🤞🏻
This was so helpful. Thank you❤
Of course!! 💗✨
28:05 that is a good thing for me because I get OCD with numbers and clocks sometimes
I’ve had my kindle for 5 months but recently, I realize that I wanted an E ink notebook. But the super note is 300$ and that’s a little bit much for me so I’m going to switch to this color kobo
@@ivanamurphy6917 I think the notebook integration on the kobo libra color is really smooth and nice!

24:35 great video!! I’ve already watch the video on migrating from Kindle to Kobo. My question is does the stats work for the migrated book, if it is in kepub format?
@@TonyStark-pj6bp yes!! It does :)
@@reading_faerieawesome! Thanks!
🖊 thanks for the review. UA-cam must know I'm on the fence about making the switch to a Kobo Color. Thanks for the insight.
💗💗
@@itsstargazer yeah it’s cheaper for the regular paperwhite here but the new kindle colorsoft is more expensive with literally no features lol
Or if you have your settings to automatically turn off the screen mine will turn off after 5 mins to save battery so if I put it down to do something and forget I was reading (adhd lol) it’ll turn off ☺️
I think the screen protector is decent quality that I got it’s just off Amazon and would probably be fine in your bag if you’re not super rough on your stuff but throwing it in with like keys probably isn’t a good idea😂
@@reading_faerie Thanks for your speedy reply! That's very helpful!
@@AmoPerrosMás hope you enjoy it you got a kobo ☺️
@@reading_faerie Yes thanks! I can't wait until it gets here! 🥳
📝 Thank you very much, your review helped me to decide that my next e-reader will be a Kobo 🥰
Hope you love it!! 💗
I just wish it would syncs the reading progress for side loaded books 😢

Have you been able to find a case that actually fits it? I ordered a clear case & a flip case that said they’re for the Libra Colour but both have the charging port hole in the wrong place!
🖊️🖊️
The official one that is kobo brand does fit it!!
I just had to return my Kobo Color. It would not turn on. Would show charging forca second then off. No way to know if charged since cannot turn on.
Hoping they stick to their word and I get a new one not refurbished.

I bought a Scribe a year ago and never use the notebook options. Also, it just feels too big and heavy. Really considering a kobo-
@@debkuppusamy7912 the kobo is so lightweight!! And writing directly on the book page is so fun I can’t get over it
Do you think you a screen protector is a must if you are using the stylus?

It’s a bit different from kindle in that the dark mode only affects the books itself, the menu remains light unless I’m just missing the setting to do the entire device in dark mode but in the reading settings there is a dark mode option which turns all books into dark mode when open to the pages :)
I’ll look into this a bit more and see if the entire device can go into dark mode or not!

Hi.. did you have any issues like screen glitching since you got it? Thanks❤
@ thank you for getting back to me.. I appreciate your reply. Can I ask if you bought it straight from Rakuten or through Amazon?
@ from Kobo directly because Amazon customer service is honestly garbage so for anything over $20 I don’t trust them lol
@@reading_faerie okay thank you bestie! i’m going to look forward on your update video! Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving! ❤️😊
I am curious about using this device as a calendar /planner? Do you think it would work?
There is a calendar option in the notebook it could definitely work!
@ I also have been searching and found pdfs that be downloaded to use as templates. Have you download pdfs and such to read? If so, was it easy? I am really leaning towards this for a planner and ereader big time. I am trying to get away from Amazon as much as I can and little bits at a time
@ downloading PDFs is very easy because you can log into Google drive directly on the device. Just upload there and download on the kobo 😄
@ thanks for the info. I appreciated the video and helps me understand the device more. I didn’t want anything too much bigger than my kindle paperwhite for reading and planning needs. And I think this device hits the nail on the head. Thank you again.

I guess UA-cam plonked this into my feed because I’ve been looking at these devices but „our lord and savior Taylor swift” gets you a sub from me.
@@CarrieJamrogowicz LOL honestly relatable. Welcome swiftie 🫱🏻🫲🏼💗
🖊️
I took a palm detection off for that reason
