    I was exclusively a kindle user as well, but I sat on my kindle a while ago and broke it, since then I kept using my phone. I finally bought a libra colour a week ago and I love it. I copied all my kindle books into Calibre and stripped the DRM and converted them to epubs. My library is great on the Kobo and im not worried about buying new books from amazon.

      I will probably also look into converting some of my ebooks. It might be weird, but I'm kind of enjoying starting with a clean slate to see if I can keep up with what I download to my device. Glad you are also loving this device!

    I've only ever had Kobos (I'm Canadian), right now I have the Libra H2O and it's still an excellent device.
    everytime I see a review of a Kindle I don't understand how it's more popular, Kobo is just so nice.
    Amazon has too much of a hold on us! Glad the Kobo is starting to get more love.

      I live in the states, and had NEVER heard of this brand until a friend made a video about it. I was also shocked to find that library books didn't work on kindles for Canadians, so that makes sense that kobo would be huge there. I'm just trying to loosen the chokehold Amazon has on everyone (including myself)

      This looks like a cheaper version of my Kindle oasis which Amazon has discontinued. Their new color model doesn't have page turn buttons, so I may have to look into the Kobo a bit more.

    NB you can transfer your kindle books to the Libra Colour so I would hang on to your kindle, or trade it in for the new released kindle that you can get in several colours and is a lot cheaper, half the price and there is a money back if you trade in your old kindle, even if it’s not working properly, the new cheaper one is very fast!

    Kindle page turns can be done with a swipe instead of a tap, too. Swipe in one direction to go forwards, the other to go back. That way you don't have to reach all the way across the screen. I hope this helps somebody.

    If you compare the new libra to the libra colour you definitely see that the contrast on the monochrome device is way higher. The white is more white and the black is more black, while the colour is much more grey and you need to turn on the light at about 40% to get the same amount of readability of the b/w reader with lights turned off completely.
    It’s very noticable, i have compared the screens in a bookstore where they have a demo station where you can check the readers in person before buying. ♥️

    Considering how slow typing on an e-ink reader usually feels I'm excited to try out this pen feature. I heard that you can only sync one library at a time between the kobo and libby? I've never transferred books from the library manually before. Is it pretty simple?

    • @Kritz_Reads
      @Kritz_Reads  6 місяців тому

      I only have one library card, so I haven't tried it, but I have heard that you can only do one at a time, so signing in and out between them is annoying. It is very simple to transfer, but I usually use overdrive (which is built into it) and request my books that way directly from my kobo.

      Oh, yes, I read that "Kindle Unlimited restricts authors to their platform for exclusivity", so that is probably why most aren't on kobo, which is just... annoying, because I read a lot of romance indie authors but 1) i don't read enough for the kindle unlimited subscription and 2) even if i want to buy those books somewhere else, I can't.

    • @Kritz_Reads

      So I did another video recently where I compared this to the new kindle colorsoft, and so many pointed out to me that you can continue to buy these indie authors and just transfer them to your kobo. It does still suck to be supporting amazon and their policies, but it is still a work around.

      If you don';t care about the color highlighting or note taking, I think a more basic ereader would be what you want. If you live in the States, getting library books on your kindle is super easy. You go to your library website, and as the books come in, it just takes a click or two to have it send to your kindle. A kindle paperwhite in that case is what I would go with. I'm not an expert on ereaders, but that one is the one I've used the longest and have gotten for my grandmother, who was also very happy with it

      Kindles are WAY easier, for Americans at least, to borrow library books. I have multiple libraries, and Libby compares all of my libraries to see which has the shortest wait period for each title, so I can place a hold on a hot book. I buy NO books. All free from the library. I also have a Kobo Libra H2O, and the overdrive function is really lacking imho. One library only. Browsing for books isn’t easy, either. I put my largest library on Kobo, and use it for the rare book not available on Kindle, or to load an extra book for travel. I use my Libby app on my phone to borrow the book, and then find it and click on the Kobo to sync it. While I like my Kobo, especially the page turn buttons, I would never give up my Kindle, purely for the library functionality. If you don’t live in the USA, though, Kobo would be the way to go if you are averse to buying books as I am.

    Hi. Does this eReader not have an audio feature? No video I’ve watched so far discusses that feature & there isn’t any info about this, which worries me from an accessibility standpoint. I unfortunately have dyslexia, so audio books, screen reader/ability to read pages on books that aren’t audiobook eligible, font/line spacing customisation- those are tools that help me manage the learning disability. It’s not hopeful how eReaders aren’t the most accessible.

    • @Kritz_Reads
      @Kritz_Reads  7 місяців тому +1

      I'm sorry to say that it doesn't have an audio function like you describe. It does have a section for audiobooks, which you would purchase (at what looks like a higher price often) and you can listen that way. I think a lot of ereaders have moved away from the function you describe, and I actually forgot that I used to listen to my books that way at one time. I'm sure you are aware, but just in case you aren't, of services like EverAnd (formerly Scribd) where you pay a monthly fee and can listen as much as you like. That one is my personal favorite since you don't have to pay per book. It would be using your phone or tablet though, as opposed to an ereader. I'm sorry this one doesn't have the feature that would help you (and many others) out!

I know that 5%-17% of the world has dyslexia, but the limitations are so discouraging & gut wrenching. I’m sure there are more eReaders existence I’m not aware of, but the Era Colour Pocketbook seems to be exactly what I’d need for accessibility spec wise. I do love this device, and it has gotten me into using e-reading more often. I will say that the main downside is the online catalog of books. kobo plus (their version of kindle unlimited) is nothing in comparison. I'm told that when authors use amazon to publish their self published works....that they agree not to release on other platforms. I'm not sure if this is an issue with other genres, but I read a lot of indie horror, and many authors are not available.

      I mostly read horror, and the only authors I see on kobo plus are most of Darcy Coates books and most of Robert McCammon's novels. There are some random books that catch my attention, but not enough for me to keep the subscription. There are many more authors available for purchase, but not so much if the book is with a smaller publishing press. Most of the ones I am looking for and find are ones you would find in major book stores. Kindle unlimited really takes the prize on this one, but I believe it is because most independent authors that publish on KU have an agreement not to release on any other e reader

      I'm sorry, that is a bummer. I assumed they made them separate so you could save money if you DIDN'T want a stylus, but I think it is what makes it so unique. I've heard that SOME other pens work with it, so maybe check other videos or maybe on reddit to see which one and you can get your hands on that? Good luck!

      @@Kritz_Reads The fact that the Styluses also cost quite a lot too haha.

      Any pens that are compatible with Microsoft devices also work with Kobo! IIRC as long as a pen is MPP certified it should work with the Kobo. There are a lot of styluses on Amazon that are $20-$40.

    Amazon has already said they are coming out with a colour e-reader anytime now - early 2025 so I’m waiting for that

      I also felt this way until the people of Reddit convinced me to break away from the Kindle ecosystem and give Kobo a try. Eagerly awaiting mine to arrive!

      I hope they add a pen feature as well. Aside from the color highlighter being able to write your notes is a big selling point. Typing on an e-ink screen is so annoying.

      For sure! Everything here is just my opinion. A lot of people are also upset by the new kindle colorsoft, but those things don't bother me either, for which I am grateful. Doesn't mean it isn't an issue for many others

    thing that puts me of its very bulky and looks kind of old. Perfer the Boox go colour 7, not locked into any ebook reader, can read anything from Kobo, Kindle, etc

      That one looks interesting as well, and I wasn't aware of it when I bought this. It doesn't allow for annotating on the page, does it?

    This e-reader is crap. I'm gonna return it and ask my money back. It looks so cheap and generic. The screen is terrible yellowish and even with natural light it doens't look like a sheet of paper as kindle looks. I'll keep my kindle paper white.
