This song is from the tear-jerker film "Beaches" -- Bette's other big hit was "The Rose" which is also a phenomenal song (from 1980, I believe).
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Do You Want To Dance, and From a Distance were all big hits.
Beaches broke me
This movie is literally the story of mine and my best friends life. Every single aspect of our lives. This song and movie will always run deep for me. My bestfriend is more then that, she's my sister and I love her forever and miss her so much more
@@heatherwalker9776 I'm sorry for your loss but I know she's still with you every day. Sending hugs
@@tracylw ty so much. I do agree, she will be with me for a life time. Omg I miss her.
It was my husband. Together for almost 40 years. Met when we were 15 and 16. Raised 3 beautiful children. He went home to heaven at age 57. Still miss him every day. There was, and ever will be, no one for me but him. 💕💕💕
Hi Denise just wanted to say I'm almost 51 with 2 beautiful kids and I have yet to ever have a love like that, you are truly blessed to know a love like him. 💖
I wish I could've found a love like you had.
❤
“The Rose” is stunning by her too ❤️
This song is from the movie Beaches - it reminds me so much of my best friend of more than 50 years. She's been on my mind so much lately as we are approaching the 1-year anniversary of her death from COVID and I have just been bawling my eyes out through this whole reaction. It's such a beautiful song and the friendship it's referring to, is so like ours was. Thanks - I needed the release! :) And do check out the movie - it's fantastic
Oh Lord, a tear jearker for sure. From the movie Beaches, where her best friend dies. She was Johnny Carsons favorite singer, he had her on his last show. The video is scenes from the movie. Asia, you need to watch Beaches for sure. She sang this at RBG funneral
That was a beautiful thing, watching Carson while she sang for him.
Oh... so maybe preface this with a spoiler alert.
Welp I guess they won't bother watching the movie now lol.
@@dawggirl why not??
@@michaelasay8587 Because they already know what happens.
It’s “BET”! Played this at my parents funeral, 21 years apart. There is a video of her performing this at Yankee stadium for the surviving families of the victims of 9/11. That performance will bust you up. The song is from the movie “Beaches” soundtrack. Bette is a great bubbly vibrant woman and her live shows back in the 80s were hilarious! Anyone remember the showgirls dressed as mermaids in wheelchairs? Omg. LOL!!!
Yes, her live shows were a hoot!
Just searched and watched it…very emotional, thanks for the heads up
The Harlettes....a takeoff on the word harlot...a pejorative term for women. Harlot is a 'sexually immoral woman'..... was funny... in your a face.... to prudish people.
Just wondering what a man would be called.... Crickets....
I saw Bette about 7 years ago and her live shows are still a hoot. So much sexy whimsical joy. My bucket list consisted entirely of seeing Bette live before she or I passed whichever should happen first. She did not disappoint. I went with my husband and my parents and the four of us had such a special time. When she lies on that lip shaped couch and sings an entire song laying practically upside down and not missing a note is EVERYTHING.
The hula skirts, the poi balls, Sophie Tucker jokes. She was one of my 1st concerts. Amazing always.
You guys... *THE ROSE* soundtrack is so badass. She freaking nailed that movie! Powerful perfection!! 🎤🎬
Very few actors can slay both drama and comedy roles. But this woman did. She's funny af, but can pull your heart to pieces. She's just amazing. All the way around.
She got screwed out of the Oscar for the Rose.
Fun fact: She was Johnny Carson's last guest and she sang "One more for my baby." It's epic and she won an Emmy for it.
The song won Grammy Awards for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year in February 1990.
In 2010 we lost our son and only child. His best girl friend sang this at his funeral. She had a difficult time singing. I cry every time I hear it.
This song is for my niece who was 6 years old and my nephew who was 4 years old ❤god bless both of them they died very tragically 😢😢😢❤
I love that BJ understands getting emotional to songs. I knew one of you was going to say it to the other after the song! Lol It's obvious you both feel the same way and that's why so many love your channel. Peace ✌ and blessings 💞 to both of YOU 💖
This is an amazing song. If you haven't already, also listen to her sing THE ROSE. You are right, it is said like BET. The movie, Beaches, this is from, would rip your heart out. It's about 2 best friends. Asia, you got the meaning, perfectly. You should watch the movie. 😭
Aww the divine Bette Midler❤ love her voice and the message in this song. For me this is all about my beautiful MOTHER!!!
It's been years since this song first came out, but every single solitary time I hear it the Water works start! It makes me think of the people who have been there for me and lifted me up when I didn't think I could go any further! 😭
She starred in a movie called "Beaches" where she sings this song. If you ever get the opportunity watch this movie, but watch it with a box of tissues!
This is such a beautiful, heartfelt song. My other favorite of hers is 'From A Distance.' I remember listening to it in 1991 when it was being dedicated to soldiers serving during the Gulf War.
When I worked in the funeral industry, this was one of top songs played at funerals.
The 80's strikes again! Released in 1988. Such a beautiful song. A CLASSIC!!!!
Beaches... Even the hardest break down in tears to this movie...
This song was played constantly on the radio when the Desert Storm War started, still hits the heart
You might be thinking of "From a distance" which is great song they should react to and also the song "Show me the way" by Styx
I believe that Bette Midler actually won a Grammy Award for this song!
Lmao 🤣 "You killin me smalls" 🤣🤣Y'all never fail to make me smile.
She does another song from the movie Beaches called I Think It’s Going To Rain Today. (Written by Randy Newman). To me, it’s even more emotional than Wind Beneath My Wings and she does a beautiful job with it. Fun Side Note: she was just starting out in the early 70s when she hired a skinny piano player to be her musical director/conductor/arranger, and he eventually produced Grammy winning albums for her. That geeky genius was none other than Barry Manilow, who launched his own career while touring with her.
I have been lucky enough to have seen both Bette and Barry in concert multiple times. What great shows those were and I remember absolutely everything about them! The seventies and eighties were such a great time in music!
The Rose and From A Distance are also awesome songs by her.
Bette Davis was pronounced Betty, but Bette Midler is pronounced Bet. I don’t know why but that’s just how it is
You need to hear Bette (Bet, yes BJ is right) The Rose. PERIOD!!!
It is this 66yo white guys opinion that this is on e of the most beautiful ballads ever written, or performed!
This video is lacking big time..Bette sings this song in Beaches to/about her best friend as her best friend is dying...a real tear jerker scene...
Another Bette song to give you goose bumps is From A Distance.
She sings The Rose
Such a beautiful song. It's a great movie too with Bette we played it at my mom's funeral and it was a movie she loved❤✌🇨🇦
You should watch the movie beaches. It shows about there relationship.
It's about 2 best friends put to the test.this is how you know that this person is indeed your best friend please watch the movie called Beaches
Good acknowledgement Asia - good man BJ 👍👍
You should react to "From a Distance" from Bette Midler
listen to Gladys Knight and The Pips version, you will love it more
My Mama dedicated this song to me!!! I miss my Mama! ♥️♥️♥️
Can’t listen w/o tears. My husband is the wind beneath my wings. I hope I am his.
Too bad she has turned so political and judgmental in her old age. I used to like her. Not anymore
10 years ago (May 8 2014) we played this song at my daddy's funeral...still cannot listen to it without crying
A great movie Beaches. It was sad, Bette was something else.
Gary Morris, a country singer, did it 1983 has a beautiful version. He sings country, but his voice suits several genres. He also was on Broadway in the 80s, Les Miserables. He has a great catalogue. He can sing country to the classics.
Watch the movie Beaches. This song will make sense
Holy crap. A little teary. The movie will make you ugly cry
This is one of the all time best love ballads, a great wedding song, and Bette(not Betty) really nails it!
Well I kept it cool until Asia said BJ is the wind beneath her wings and 😢.Endearing.Ya'll killing me with cuteness.
Asia and BJ, greetings and Thank you for this song.
My best friend of 45 years since were kids… she called the radio station and decayed this song to me back it came out. She’s the one who passed away…. Thank you for playing this😏. It means so much…. Have you seen the movie?…. Great music
You have to watch the movie "Beaches". omg omg omg
Watch the video of you haven't yet. Beaches
must see beaches to really feel what this song is about bet is the actress in it of course and she sings this song for that movie
Yes like everyone says watch Beaches
The song is from the movie Beaches.
Watch beaches. Awesome movie
Honestly would love to hear you sing this song Asia! 🕊
You have to see the movie "Beaches "
My niece sang this at my fathers funeral. I don’t know how she did it without breaking down. It was her only grandfather she grew up with.
Despite her recent remarks, some of which have been controversial, Better Midler is a remarkable singer/actress. The Divine Miss M used to work with Barry Manilow in men's Turkish baths in the 6o's as they were both coming up. Two of her early hits include,
DO YOU WANNA DANCE,
DELTA DAWN,
and of course THE ROSE.
Definitive performances that help establish her audience. She is also in the WE ARE THE WORLD video but not prominently featured.
You might also checkout Taylor Dayne and her powerhouse lovesong,
SEND ME A LOVER.
Ohhhh. I'm a puddle. This was my Mom's favorite song. She passed away a year ago yesterday. When I was cleaning out her apartment, I found a beautiful music box that played this song....sighhhh.
Once you break down the lyrics its hard not to become emotional! Nothing more to say.
Please watch the movie with your best friend 😞😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah you’ve got to watch beaches…. Beautiful messy friendship
Check out Bette Midler singing " The Rose ". It's a tribute to Janis Joplin.
So moving, from the film "Beaches" where her beloved friend passed away. Another stunningly beautiful ballad of hers was "From a Distance". I hope you guys react to it sometime. 💜
The Divine Miss M 🤘🔥☮️💜
This song and film has been part of my entire life. My mom loves Bette and raised us on her movies and music.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard "I had no idea" I would be a millionaire.😉😂😂😂 jokes Asia and Bj
Try the soundtrack from the movie "One True Thing" entitled "My One True Friend" by Bette Midler......
Do not like that woman
i have always loved bette midler, shes rude, up front, obnoxious, loud, honest, trust worthy, loyal and beautiful!!! as many have stated this song comes from the movie beaches, you guys should really check it out on your move reaction channel, i promise you wont leave that movie without shedding a tear, along with the another great movie called the rose which is loosely based on janis joplins life. i pretty much love everything this woman has done but my favorite song of all time by her is the rose.
Look the movie " For the boys" From Bette Midler. Wonderful.....tears..
I hope you have seen Beaches starring her . She is singing this for her best friend. It’s such a wonderful movie .
This was a beautiful song from a great movie about a lifelong friendship of two women & the ups & downs of life & relationships & hardships. "Beaches' is a great movie & Bette has an amazing voice. Ironically, she started out as a comedian & her shows mixed her singing & her comedy. And she is a bawdy broad with naughty humor. Then she is also a great actress. Talented woman & activist. I've seen daughters dance with their fathers at their wedding to this one, more than once.
Only 3 movies have brought tears to my eyes. Brians Song, Marley & Me and Beaches, the movie this song is from, and Bette Midler stared in.
Love this song so much. Especually the movie. Great reaction
I just lost my Dad 3 weeks ago and he was my hero. I'm devastated and miss him already. He will always be my biggest hero ever. 😢
Beaches, the movie
Love the message in her "From A Distance" song too
I almost barfed
You both need to react to the movie “BEACHES”. Tear jerker. Please please watch it. Amazing movie!!!
From the movie "Beaches". She played Janis Joplin in "The Rose". Started in gay bathhouses in NYC, with Barry Manilow, her producer at the time.
She sand this song live tribute to 9/11 in the stadium...everyone's crying😢 I love this song. I dedicate this to my uncle who recently passed away...❤😢
this song played at my moms funeral she was my hero
@jamesdunn1857 beautiful song for your mother
He is right again!
You have to react to the cover by Eddie & Gerald LeVert's live performance. They're father & son & sing this facing to each other. OMG...I was cryin & snottin the whole time. I was a hot a$$ mess. Beautiful!!
The brilliant multi-talented Bette Midler... she can do it all...
This isn't her song. It was first recorded in 1982 by Kamahi, the Roger Whittaker, Shena Easton and Lee Greenwood recorded it. Lou Rawls in 1983, Gary Morris in 1938 and Bette Midler in 1988.
The original and the best... You're allowed to cry, you know...great music does that.. From the movie Beaches, tissue alert for that one.
You're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch this film....
You all don't know the half of tearjerker on this one. Find some time and watch the movie Beaches and you will see tearjerker.
I hate this song. I hate THE ROSE, her other huge hit. But I love Bette "BET" Midler. And I'm not even gay. Or Jewish. Go figure.
Check out some of her other songs..
The Rose(absolute most)
From a Distance
Otto Titsling (so funny)
And many more....
The song was first recorded by Kamahl in 1982 for a country and western album he was recording. Kamahl talked about being the first to record the song in an appearance on Australian TV show Spicks and Specks, but stated it was not commercially released because it was felt he did not suit the country and western style. Instead, Roger Whittaker recorded the song, as well as Sheena Easton and Lee Greenwood. The song appeared shortly thereafter in charted versions by Colleen Hewett (1982), Lou Rawls (1983), Gladys Knight & the Pips (1983), and Gary Morris (1983).
This is the theme from the movie, "Beaches"with Barbara Hershey from the 80's. You should watch the video of her singing it at the stadium in NY after 911...so moving!!
Bette Midler was Not the originator --- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_Beneath_My_Wings
This is a revisit for me.
Guys if you want to see the story behind this song, please react to the movie, Beaches. (1988)
Only 3 other channels have ever, to my knowledge, reacted to it.
You guys would be 4/4
It's Bet. Bet... ❤
“You’re killing me Smalls?!”..
Lol, we’re kindred spirits, my man..
BJ - you crushed it with your comments. Real men can express gratitude. Good man- I too am so thankful with my girl- 17 years of marriage next week💪
This was also from the movie "Beaches". You should watch it if you haven't. Definitely a tear jerker though. I saw Bette live 3 times. She is SUCH a performer. Great show. She is hilarious too. Unfortunately she has gone way too political, and I can't say I like her that much anymore. Makes me sad.
YES SONG WILL MAKE YOU CRY ALRIGHT. WATCH THE MOVIE ( BEACHES ) THE ROSE CAME OUT 1979 I WAS WATCHING WITH MY
FIRST BOYFRIEND AND I WAS TWENTY.
LIKE CHER SANG ..IF I COULD TURN BACK
TIME.💞💞💞💥💥💥
She didn't originate the song. That was done by Gary Morris, whose version will knock your socks off.
