Hey MGK .Yeah that’s a nice 12”. It’s got 4 remixes, works really well. Hey Harris. Nelly Furtado went to the high school my kids went to. Don’t have her records though. I bought Killer when it came out and hung that calendar on my bedroom wall. God only knows what my mother thought. Sadly it’s long gone. My dauber didn’t get much of a workout. That Can record is great. Had it for donkeys. Cheers.
Hey man Thanks. Nice Nelly fact! I actually like ‘like a bird’ great bit of pop songwriting & her next album ‘Loose’ was a real favourite. Yeah I was hoping that calendar would trigger some memory’s / stories across the pond. I was suprised the ‘Killer’ wasn’t as big an album as I thought, but it does have some quite Proggy moments on a couple of tracks (Halo of Flies) I’m really enjoying it.. Cheers my friend, hope all is well 😊

Yeah love the Associates. I found Neu’s debut in a charity shop a few years ago, which I absolutely love & bought a nice 70’s repress of Can’s ‘Future Days’ which I’m a fan off. Need to get Ege Bamyasi..for Vitamin C alone!

Good evening and Happy Easter Harris. Automatic For The Peeps is a masterpiece. In my humble opinion of course. So technically my rating does not mean squat. I met Michael Stipe at a private house party in New York for Morrissey back in 1992. Jo Slee invited six of us from Moz's Hanging With MTV show to go to an evening house party. One of the friends that I was with loved Stipe more than she did Morrissey at the time. I never saw that Gary Numan release. I have one that looks like that. It is called Exhibition. It is a very nice two record set of his greatest hits from 78 to 83. Excellent point out on Can's influences on Happy Mondays. You really study the music Harris and I appreciate that very much. Makes me feel like I am not the only one who takes my music so serious. I remember the first time I heard Loaded by Primal Scream on WFNX in Lynn, Mass. I called them up and requested it to be played on the hour. Screamadelica is also a masterpiece. Again. In my humble opinion. Excellent update H. You never disappoint and always leave me smiling~ Rob/Boston
Fantastic memories Rob. I think I watched that MTV show, the one where where Moz was asked questions by the audience? He was charming on that. Jo Slee is a genius. Those sleeves are simply incredible. Yes when the Mondays did the ‘Manchester Rave On’ Ep, that was heavily influenced by can..although I wouldn’t have known it at the time! I bought ‘Automatic’ at the time on vinyl, loved it, side 2 is just superb, probably never need to hear it again though, I overplayed it! Stipe seems an interesting character, like Moz can seem a bit prickly at times..but can’t we all! 😆 Thanks as ever are, your recollections are incredible, what memories! 😊

BINGO! But I only paid for one of them (R.E.M.), the rest were free radio promos. The dreaded phrase "I'm going to get into Can" LOL. You should definitely get more early Alice Copper. You can't go wrong with "Love It To Death", "School's Out", and "Billion Dollar Babies".
I’m going to have to put the ‘Radio Promo’ issue to the VC committee Robert. I can’t see it ending well for you 😆 Yes I need to explore Alice’s early stuff more. Pretty interesting album, I thought it would be like Kiss, but I find it far better!

Hey Cosmic OneAlways impressed by your breadth of musical taste! I didn’t have you down as a Can fan...although I didn’t have ME down as a Can fan! This Alice Cooper is awesome. Side 2 is a killer. I used to like that grunge band called Halo Of Flies, I can see where they got the name from. The calendar is crazy! No wonder America’s youth were all mental in the seventies 😆 primal Scream are a strange one, hard to pin down, but ‘Give Up But Dont Give Up’ recently came out with the original Ardent sessions, very 79’s Stones vibe, you may like it, the song I showed is a beautiful ballad, a bit like ‘Angie’
Early Alice Cooper is really great. I only got 1/5 on the CDs. Your Can comments were gold. I got into Can around that time, and I do like them very much. So far, I have no Nigerian flute music :)
I’m doing a ranking of Nigerian Flute Music soon Brian, so keep them peeled! Yeah Can are a strange one. I think Tago & Future Days may be all I need! Eye Bamyasi sounds a bit like more of the same to me ‘Vitamin C’ is great though!
Going back to Berwick street, Selectadisc became Sister Ray. I think it’s now moved over the other side of the street. Rough Trade is still there and Sounds of the Universe around the corner 😉✌️
Hi Gareth, yes, I’m still a regular visitor. Used to love the HMV when it was almost opposite Berwick Street, that place was incredible for Vinyl up until about 92? Still my favourite record shop ever, that Tower on Piccadilly was fantastic too. I used to start at 9.00am and finish about 5.00 absolutely exhausted. I actually prefer Reckless now to Sister Ray, I sold Sister Ray a load of amazing nineties pressings & I found them a bit rude which was disappointing! Miss the are ord & Tape exchange by the market
Was Cheapo Cheapo the one where all the records were piled up randomly. Just before the arch. Loved it in there. Berwick st used to be vinyl heaven. Bit mainstream and sparse nowadays. I wonder if anyone got their dobber out for your vid 🤔😳Cheers my friend, Chris
Hey Chris, I remeber it was on Rupert Street & had a garish green sign. It was pretty cramped & records were piled high. I think he used to get shipments of dead stock & cut outs from America. The whole period between 87-89 is just a incredible haze in my mind. I used to get the train from Southampton once a month. Considering I only earned £400 a month back then they must have been cheap! Wonderful memories!
I'm 3/5 with the cd's. My Spin Doctors' one has the 3 extra songs. The guy I was dating at the time thought the song "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" was written about me and would ask, "You sure you don't know anyone in this band?". It actually is a pretty good song. The Oasis cd I played the hell out of when it came out. Hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend!
Hey Maria, might actually have to give that track a spin 😂 Yeah the Spin Doctors were part of that MTV post grunge thing that I was always a bit suspicious of..like Soul Asylum, Bush etc..although Soul Asylum’s early stuff was descent. Actually Two Princess is a bit of a guilty pleasure tbh..don’t tell anyone though 😂 Hope you are well Maria, always great to hear from you!
That's a hell of a title for a contest! Ok I got my card out & no that's not a euphemism. Woah Nelly I think we've got a winner over here!! I've marked on my card Killer, Automatic, What's The Story, I'm feeling it...oh shit I didn't have Madonna or Spin Doctors!! So true, there was a dance remix on every UK indie b-side. Glorious days. Can at 32 spot on 😂Wow that's weird I just recently watched all of the Mel Gibson Mad Max films. Pretty great and then there's Beyond Thunderdome. I'll say this, it is enjoyable in a this is so bad it's good kinda way.
Ha,ha.Cheers Ben, & to think I only put in the Spin Doctors to give you a chance of nabbing the big prize! I did wonder if you were a Can fan with the metronomic skills of Jake Leibezeit. Seems all drummers love him! I think he’s great..& I’m not a drummer! Yeah big fan of the 90’s dance remix. I love that Aphex Twin comp ‘26 remixes for cash’ where he compiles all the remixes he did for other bands...& then gleefully admits he actually never bothered listening to or even playing any of the original tracks he was remixing! 😂 What a lad! Hope all is good mate!
Hi Harris - Alas I have Noah Nelly, so fell at the first hurdle (only 2/5 for me). I love Future Days but need to give Tago Mago another spin as I really struggled with the second disk. I'll look out for that On the Air themes album, cheers Dale
Hi Dale, yeah I just treat it as a single album , the first 4 tracks are fantastic. I love ‘Vitamin C’ off Bamyasi & they remind me off that. Got a lovely copy of Future Days off Clive £30.00 81 repress, already doubled in value in the space of a year,p according to Discogs, qpvery fashionable with us hipsters! 😆
Hello from New Zealand. I havent viewed your channel for sometime. I took a break away from UA-cam. Anyway im back. I used to say Nelly Fried 🥔 potato, years ago. REM are a group i have always enjoyed since the 1980s. I bought their debut album in 1983 titled Murmur on vinyl. It contained the single Radio free Europe . I like mixes and long versions of music. I bought a CD recently of Donna Summer called The Dance Collection a compilation of twelve inch singles. I danced to her hits at the Disco back in the 1970s. So i love the cd. I like Primal Scream. I liked those comedy tv shows back in the 1970s. Shows such as Dads Army, Steptoe & Son, Are you being Served, Fawlty Towers, Hi de Hi. etc. There arent shows like them anymore on tv. Its so boring now. People are tooooo serious these days, theres no humour.
Ha,ha, certainly some of those shows would be cancelled nowadays. I was a big fan of Leonard Rossiter so ‘Rising Damp’ & ‘Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin’ were always high on my list. Yeah love an extended version, there’s some great CD compilation of 80’s extended mixes. Glad to see you back on UA-cam Sir!...I need all the help I can get! 😂
If Nelly Furtado was genuinely promiscuous it wouldn't involve Justin Timberlake! Babe. Not a CD person but I managed 2/5. It was a fair competition with clear rules, (throws grenade) a rare thing in the VC. What an interesting career Martha Ladly had!! New Order and OMD connections. Associates Bassist doesn't get enough recognition either. Still waiting for the record shop videos!
I didn’t understand the rules at all. I’ll probably get some snotty message from a Canadian demanding their prize in about a month 😆 Great call on Martha Ladlybit of a looker as well if I remember rightly? Must Wiki her
I have tried out a few albums that were "Declared Essential By The Critics" but I never got around to Can. Now I know where to start! I did poorly at the Bingo, just Oasis and REM. I'm from Nelly Furtado's hometown, so I should have that album, but I don't. One of my favourite TV themes is Hawaii-5-0.
Yeah the Critically Acclaimed album has led me down many a blind alley. I remember being told Skip Spence’s ‘Oar’ was the greatest record ever...I beg to differ! Lou Reed’s ‘Metal Machine Music’ ...no thanks! I searched for Gene Clarke’s ‘No Other’ in the nineties for three months..found it...played it twice (although a lot of people I trust love it). You can’t beat Hawaii 5-0, that gives the Rockford Files a run for its money. This album also had Dick Barton on it...awesome! Cheers Arturo!
@@Harrispilton22 I like Oar, but only if I'm in just the right mood for it, which is quite tired. Some of the songs sound like a 45 being played at 33 1/3. No Other grew on me slowly. I didn't love it right away. I think I like his album White Light more (it's sometimes known as a self-titled album, because the title wasn't on the jacket, just on the record!). My parents must have liked Rockford Files and Hawaii 5-0. Those shows were always on!
Hey Chris, the Peru stuff I’m fine with..it’s the Nigerian flute music that pushed me over the edge. I’m ranking Peruvian nose flute albums soon, stay tuned.
Yeah Cheapo Cheapo was pretty nuts. I think he used to get dead stock from America bought over on the container ships. TBH pretty much all vinyl was cheap from about 89 onwards, you struggled to give it away!
I don't have any of those 5 winners so I'll do B.I.N.G.O. my own way... Bat For Lashes - Two Suns Ings - Lullaby Rock Nobody - and everything else Gaze - Mitsumeru Only Ones - Special View BINGO in CD
Madonna and Oasis is easy to find here. Never seen those others, but bought some other REM CD. Never listened that, yet. I need that 19 maxi. Great song.
@@Harrispilton22 Here are tons of local releases...but It seems that the best time for finds are gone in CDs. There are lesser CDs now in charity shops than year or two ago...
Speaking as the VC's leading authority on Gary Numans mega automobile based hit, CARS.....THE CARLING PREMIER MIX is the one you want mate,it's got plenty of oomph and dare I say better than the original 🤔🤔🤔 Now that's controversial !!!
Just watched the advert Nick, I have no memory of that...although 96 was one of my ‘lost’ years. Yeah sounds great, just tightens up the original a bit, looked on Discogs, but you can just get it on a picture disc or cd?
@@Harrispilton22 I have it on the 7" pic disc but tend to play it from a hits album of his I have on CD. Love the original but adore the Premiere MIX 👍👍👍
Hi Richard, I thought you may be a Furttado fan. ‘like A Bird’ is actually a classic bit of Radio 2 pop, I next album ‘Loose’ was a reall favourite of mine...& gives R.E.M’s ‘Monster’ a run for its money in the charity shop landfill stakes! There’s a hell of a lot of Robbie Williams ‘I’ve Been Expecting you’ out there too I’ve discovered...in fact there’s just a hell of a lot of Robbie Williams! 😂
Bingo minus 5. I'm such a looser! Or am I?... Oh, and I still dont listen to music journalists, but mibne never recommend musique concrete, only pretentious stu like Can's rock and rool's Tago Mago. Maybe we should trade?
Ha,ha. I was a bit of a slave to music journalism, but between about 87-89 the Melody Maker & occasionally NME had some great writers . Sadly my Favourite Neil Kulkarni recently died , he shaped a huge amount of my record collection. I liked being steered abit, band camp is just overwhelming without some guidance!
Unfortunately David this competition was not available to any participants outside the U.K...I think I made that clear 😆 If you have an issue with that speak to my legal representative Georgio, not tonight though...he’s doing his normal shift at the Shirley Kebab Hut.
He actually bought a Spin Doctors CD for this bit? I can assume that his medal was for masochism. PS, I'm a pretentious twat so I only had the Can on CD.
Hi Harris - See ya at Wembley in May ! Southampton V Norwich. Sargent 🫡 with a goal 3 minutes time & surely Norwich are like Primal Scream & Movin On Up But Southampton channel Man U memories & go level with a minute left & as extra time beckons turn a last gasp corner into an improbable winner. Plausible scenario ? Yes !
Anythings possible with us David. We've been pretty average all year! I think it's quite a poor division this year. I don't think any team going up will have much fun next season! Norwich timing their run to perfection. We've got Ipswich tomorrow😢 Could be a car crash!😅😅

@@Harrispilton22 Aphex Twin is a champ 👍
Must Wiki her
Dammit. Only 4 out of 5. No medal. No free membership. 😢
2/5 with the CDs. I might have to turn in my Generation X card. My world flute music album is from Peru, not Nigeria.
Hey Chris, the Peru stuff I’m fine with..it’s the Nigerian flute music that pushed me over the edge. I’m ranking Peruvian nose flute albums soon, stay tuned.
I need a time machine so I can go to Cheapo Cheapo!
Bat For Lashes - Two Suns
Ings - Lullaby Rock
Nobody - and everything else
Gaze - Mitsumeru
Only Ones - Special View
BINGO in CD
I don’t own any of those Ed. Got the Only Ones debut which is fantastic. Certainly a lot of Bat For Lashes CDs in our Charity Shops!
@@Harrispilton22
The only item I had that you showed was the Can album. I didn't have any of the CDs.
Only 1 on my bingo card. Crap! I never win anything! Once I won a rain gauge in a raffle. That’s the extent of my winnings.
‘Rain Gauge’ 😆 that’s classic Good to hear from you mate!
Madonna and Oasis is easy to find here. Never seen those others, but bought some other REM CD. Never listened that, yet. I need that 19 maxi. Great song.
Yeah ‘19’ is great Tommy. That R.E.M is everywhere out here! I’m suprised you domt see it often
@@Harrispilton22 Here are tons of local releases...but It seems that the best time for finds are gone in CDs. There are lesser CDs now in charity shops than year or two ago...
Speaking as the VC's leading authority on Gary Numans mega automobile based hit, CARS.....THE CARLING PREMIER MIX is the one you want mate,it's got plenty of oomph and dare I say better than the original 🤔🤔🤔
Now that's controversial !!!
Just watched the advert Nick, I have no memory of that...although 96 was one of my ‘lost’ years. Yeah sounds great, just tightens up the original a bit, looked on Discogs, but you can just get it on a picture disc or cd?
@@Harrispilton22
I have it on the 7" pic disc but tend to play it from a hits album of his I have on CD.
Love the original but adore the Premiere MIX 👍👍👍
I think I only saw the advert on a couple of occasions to be honest....loved Gary Numan, couldn't stand Carling Black Label ☹️
4/5 - sod Nelly Furtado!
If you think those Spin Doctors songs are crap, try Cleopatras Cat from album 2 💩
Now you’ve said it Mark I’ve got to investigate! It’s like a Scooby Doo episode where the gang are told don’t go into the basement! 😂
Warning. There is scat singing within the first 10 seconds. Not for people of a nervous disposition.
4 out of 5 woah smelly
Close but no cigar Peter!
B I N G O !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oops......I meant to type R I N G O...........
Unfortunately David this competition was not available to any participants outside the U.K...I think I made that clear 😆 If you have an issue with that speak to my legal representative Georgio, not tonight though...he’s doing his normal shift at the Shirley Kebab Hut.
@@Harrispilton22 ............🤣🤣🤣!!!!!
He actually bought a Spin Doctors CD for this bit? I can assume that his medal was for masochism. PS, I'm a pretentious twat so I only had the Can on CD.
Don’t panic Joe, I can claim it as a tax write off. I’m willing to suffer for my art!
It’s on!!!! 😂
