    I got one a couple years ago and yes it's very well made.
    I would recommend it in your collection of lighters. There are different brands but there all good. Thay make great gifts to.

    I note from the comments below that some folks love these lighters while others hate them. I'm in the former camp. I have the Field L in aluminium (for the lower weight) and it's excellent. Also couldn't resist a Field S (brass), which is rather more quirky but pure cool.

      @@WatchesKnivesEDC I bought a mini Japan lighter from the 60's and gave it to a friend, it was a little small for me. We still have yet for it to not light on the first strike and we still haven't refilled it. That was 3 weeks ago! It was built so well so I bought one of these on Ebay for $27 new. Well another guy said that this seller gave him a fake tracking number so I may have been had. What do they say about too good to be true I forget, haha. I just don't understand people sometimes. Well, make that all the time!! I'll keep ya posted, cross your fingers.

    Where can i get more those tiny flint bricks? Surely they must wear out eventually. I dont know much about lighters. Also, do i have to get a maintenance kit and what is it for?

    • @WatchesKnivesEDC
      @WatchesKnivesEDC  3 роки тому +2

      Normal flints are fine - I got Zippo ones from my local tobacconist.
      I've never heard of a maintenance kit! Sounds unnecessary to me.

    • @WatchesKnivesEDC
      @WatchesKnivesEDC  5 років тому +1

      I used a Clipper flint in there, which works well. I believe the Zippo flint is a little smaller so it would definitely fit. And since the spring in the lighter is quite strong it would push the flint up towards the wheel just fine. So I'm guessing the answer is 'yes'!

    • @ranbymonkeys2384

      If the zippo flint is smaller in diameter, what you don't want to happen is the flint get at an angle as apposed to straight up and down because they can get wedged between the lighter and the striker wheel. As long as there isn't too much slop then it should be fine .

      Hi Dik - I never say how much I paid because 'price' isn't a universal constant, it depends on a variety of fluctuating factors such as where you purchase from, whether you buy new or used, when you are (if you're watching this video in 2030 who knows how much these cost then) and so on.

    It only holds fluid for a month? With those seals I was expecting a lot more. My old Austrian IMCO lighter that I paid $25 for holds fuel for nearly that long, and it has no rubber gaskets - only tight tolerances.

    Here are my thoughts. 1. The longer flint chamber should have a long piece of flint in it, that would fill half or more of the chamber ittself with telescopic spring (able to collapse roughly half of itself) to hold the flint in place. Why have a chamber that big, just for a spring that big, if it over all has no functioning purpose. With a flint piece that small they could made that chamber a fraction of the length, making the light that much more sleek and light. Function first! They had two options put a longer flint piece (would be great and highly purposeful) or to make the actual chamber which holds it a faction of the size. Why do you need that ling tube for the tiniest piece of flint, makes no sense. Being that Tokyo is highly minimalist, I would have thought they would have put that much more thought into what they were creating for end production... Still, an great manufactured piece ,over all,... just not perfect.

    • @WatchesKnivesEDC
      @WatchesKnivesEDC  4 роки тому

      Thanks for your thoughts :-)
      What you describe is the Douglass NEO. Looks kinda funny though :-/
      One reason why they didn't put a longer flint in the chamber is that replacements are a standard size, so once it was worn down you couldn't replace it. A solution I've just thought of though; put two (or three) flints in, one on top of the other. I reckon that might work!

    • @vitalchance1032
      @vitalchance1032 4 роки тому

      @@WatchesKnivesEDC Yes, I like the neo, however I was looking for the same minimalistic approach in the oblong designed unit.
      I really like the Field L, I just wish they would make better use of the square footage in the "flint tube"... seems like the whole tube is created to hold the very long spring mechanism that holds the tinniest bit of flint. I want more flint and less spring, if I have to deal with the long tube created to hold both. For practicality and longevity, I would have like to see a longer piece of flint with a smaller sort of telescopic spring mechanism to hold it up in place as it wears down. I just do not conceptualize why would one would design such a long tube for such a tiny piece of flint housing mostly just designed to hold the spring. Why do you need such a long object to hold a speck of flint?? 'More flint, less spring to fill the designed tube'..

    This lighter seems nice, but broke in about 1 week of pocket carry - furthermore, the company refused to help with parts or service, as I hadn't ordered it from their official distribution retailer in the US, who was completely sold out and has continued to be for over 6 months. Complete garbage, do not buy.

    Bought the Douglas Neo three recently, after watching a slick video review..... totally disappointed, you fill it and it evaporates in 2 or 3 days (max) they are cheaper than the field L , but still almost fifty quid, and apparently the same ‘high quality engineering as the Field models , my Zippo lasts a couple of weeks, not a couple of days like this piece of junk (the Douglass Neo models)

    If you use this lighter even for 5sec the upper section really dose heat up pretty seriously it will burn your fingers or if you put it in your pocket without cooldown period it will burn you bad. It’s poorly design and overpriced.
