I'm 74 years old. When I started my journey I weighed 254 pounds. I'm only 5'7" and I had a myriad of health issues, including being pre-diabetic ,severe acid reflux, sleep apnea, auto-immune skin rashes, bleeding gums, plus having very high blood pressure 175/140. This journey has not been short. I was Keto for a year and half before going carnivore. I've been carnivore for the past year. Today I weigh 163 pounds (waist 32) and all of my health issues are gone. At my physical last week at the VA my doctor was completely amazed. My blood tests all came back great and my blood pressure was 125/70.
Ketosis is the biggest discovery of my life. In second day of fasting all the pain is gone. I can move, rotate my backbone and neck. It's just ok. I wish we had more doctors like you and dr Baker in Poland. Low carb saves lives and ketosis is a miracle we have programmed in our bodies, absolutely for free. I wish I knew it earlier. My both parents died because of how diabetes is treated by the system.
The first time I had ever heard about the Carnivore diet was the 1st time Shawn Baker was on Joe Rogan. I was presently eating keto Shawn Baker was talking about eating only meat which I thought was odd but I didn’t really care for vegetables anyway so I thought I would give it a shot this was 2018 I have stayed with the Carnivore WOE ever since
Extra fat has been a miraculous aid with all kinds of stress for me lately. I’m loving my new non-anxious self, even more so than the changes from carnivore diet/cutting out plant toxins. I’m a little softer all around but stomach not bloated, still lean, no visceral fat in evidence, female 55, barely any menopause symptoms, energy for days and feeling optimistic and great despite all the same bullshit crap going on in the world, plus family visits.
@@keylanoslokj1806 “plateau” wtf does that even mean? When is this supposed plateau to occur? Shawn Baker has been carnivore for over 6 years. Saifedean has been carnivore since 2015. Just because you’re weak and addicted to sugar and carbs doesn’t mean everyone else is isn’t able to have discipline when it comes to their health. Good luck with your carbs. You’ll need it.
As a massage therapist, I work on pinched nerves all the time and have gotten good at diagnosis and facilitating ease. I tell my clients, switch to carnivore, never see me again. Otherwise, see you next week.

I ate nothing for 22days and lost 380gm a day. Water only. I have no medical issues am retired, part-time say. a lot of dead friends and unhealthy friends. Nothing else worked to stop the old habits. Over 100,000 meals to miss a few seemed OK. Not eating was stressful to start. Amazing easy after starting. My experiment. I am old male and not a child or female. Fasting is a stressor with other stressful matters it might be more difficult . My mind was very clear. I stopped because I was worried about my possible health impact. But for me it has been good. Weight slowly back up. It is interesting that 3 weeks was your time frame. Skin tags fell off. Autophagy was working. Just my experience. 😊

@@stric10 I was surprised that it is more fear of the unknown. No medical supervision for me. It was an experiment. I hate wasting food and my wife keeps shopping. Hahaha 👍 So I want to do it again but just finding a day to start. Haha. Many friends with health issues and friends that have died, so I needed to find a healthy solution.
I'm an RN nurse 20+ yrs. I had a shoulder problem waiting for surgery and couldn't lift my left arm. I went to see a chiropractor, one visit and I can lift my arm & pain is gone. Fabulous.
Same with me, and if didn’t see one, I doubt I would have had a fast recovery or any recovery at all. It took one push and I walked out like if i was 100% recovered
@@losdeldostacos8007That sounds rather cynical, when someone is telling you their lived experience. I was referred to a chiropractor by my GP (surprisingly) 10 years ago. One visit fixed the issue. I asked if I needed to come back for ‘maintenance’ visits. The answer? Do you feel well, and is the issue gone? No further visits necessary. Any other time I’ve gone for separate issues, it’s been the same - instant relief or fix, no further visit required 😊
This was a good conversation. I did keto in 2018-2019 with great results but had kids and my schedule changed so I stopped and maintained ok for a couple years but looking to start again and was thinking about going full carnivore or keto so this was a great timing for me to listen to.
Every low-carb guru gives different advice. Joining the Keto community has given me a ton of success and helped me attain amazing metabolic results, but I've achieved this despite the kaleidoscope of opinions. It's unfortunate that so many people will run back to the simplicity of the SAD diet because they will get overwhelmed by the low carb noise.
How many other people immediately searched for the Joe Rogan episode upon Dr. Baker’s mention of it?? Haha! Rogan’s interviews are phenomenal especially when he interviews dr’s or scientists.
Thank you for this presentation. I've been watching you and Shawn for a while now, well, since retirement. This is fresh information for me. When Shawn flexed his neck to the right, you could tell that was there was significant freedom of motion there that allowed for painless rapid movement of his head. Fasting all by itself is a significant motivation for metabolism.

@@Bourdjihez-M9b Thank you. Video title is "Keto vs Carnivore" but I barely understand the difference after watching this. I suppose they are referring to the fact that the body converts protein to glucose via gluconeogenesis, so a high protein diet can raise one's blood sugar.
Yes, humans can't convert protein to glucose fast enough to survive(rabbit starvation), so when at the lower body fat percentages, fat must make up 80 plus % of energy intake or it becomes a stress to the body.

I also bought your guide books and icebox magnets and also bough your MCT caps and will buy more. I started with keto about 4 years ago and saw so much improvement in my health and weight, but it didn.t fix everything I wanted to fix. Moved over to carnivore and it took my health to a whole new level and stayed there the last 3 years.. I used my keto mojo tp calculate my GKI for a while to see if I was in ketosis on carnivore. I measured so often my poor fingers were black and blue, but the results were that there was a consistent level of glucose with no spicks and always had measurable ketones in my system. The GKI said for 12 hours a day I was not in ketosis, but the other 12 hours I was in low to medium ketosis depending on how far away from my 2MAD I was. If the meter had ever indicated zero ketones, I would have made changes to my diet, but as I had them 100 percent of time, I can live with that. No exogenous ketones or MCT oil needed. I am still fat adapted and the proof is I am on day 9 of a 14 day fast with no issues.
@@MoneyStrategiesSOULutions It took me awhile to work up to this point. My body was so malnourished that when I finished a fast I would start binge eating. I stopped fast for over a year to let myself heal. Now I have total control and adjust fat and protein ratios intuitively. The easiest way to do a 24 hour fast it to have your last meal at lunch time, say 12, then to eat the next day start eating at 1. You eat every day, but its still 24 hrs.
Great info! When were the 12 hours that you were not in ketosis? close to when u ate, farther from meals or another window of time? If the meter said 0 ketones what changes would you have made to your diet? 9 days on a fast is impressive. How much do you weigh?
@@verbatim187 About 1 hour after a meal my blood sugar would peak at about 101 or 102 and would be out of ketosis, then slowly go back down and ketones would slowly rise back up. The differences were minimal. There was always fairly normal blood glucose and ketones. If I were battling cancer or some other disease, it would be unacceptable, but as I am feeling great and my knee pain is under control eating this way, I am sticking to it. (I eat this way to control pain, not weight.)

@@Shikuesi He said a carnivore diet CAN be ketogenic. If he said otherwise it may have just been some sloppy language on Berry's part. Also just to be clear; a KETO diet is not necessarily ketogenic either. It depends how much you eat and how often you eat.
@@spaceghost8995 A keto diet is by definition ketogenic, unless the macros are off. If you stick to the proper macro ranges, you *will* be in ketosis. ''Too much'' protein is what keeps/gets you out of ketosis. And of course too many grams of carbs will do the same.

I have Dr. Baker's problem currently, on my left side, my left thumb and index finger feels numb and feels on fire with stings. Over a month now. I surmised I have a pinched nerve in my neck. Caused by falling asleep at my desk and my head was drooped over all night. I went on to use my arms doing heavy automotive work and worsened my pain and shoulder and elbow also now bothering me. Since then, only my thumb and index finger are still tingling and numb. I will try his approach.

A Chiropractor that practices Applied Kinesiology is probably the best type of Doctor to help Dr. Baker ! I would know this based on personal experience as a patient and a Doctor!
We need Dr. Baker. He is a great asset to the health community. I know his thoughts on plants but I strongly believe the neuro inflammatory healing power of high percentage indica based cannabis oil before bed over the next few weeks will greatly increase the likelihood of a non surgical route. I admit, I'm one of those who thought the carnivore was an extreme version of the keto diet. That might explain why I never lost ALL of my body fat. Mind you, I feel amazing, and what little fat I have left on my body is not an issue any more. Learning new stuff all the time!
@@SethCorbinMusic Alright, you're saying that, but Dr. Baker pointed ( 1:30) out that it is possible for the carnivore diet to not necessarily be keto by restricting the fat. I'm inclined to believe you, but I trust Dr. Baker's take on things. So... I'm not sure what more to say. (I think it's agreed that either way is fine, health wise.)
I agree that carnivore is keto; as long as there is enough fat, and not too much protein. I’ve done these experiments myself. I would knock myself out of ketosis just from adding more meat/proteins. As soon as I cut back a little on the protein and added a little more fat, I went back into ketosis. I believe it’s an individualized balance between the two and everybody is different. I’ve been carnivore for one year and I feel amazing.

I had severe pain in my hip and backside that shot down my leg and calve only while sitting.Had lost 115 lbs rapidly keto /carnivor,and intermittent fasting since March ..was only walking my dog for exercise on the Beach..Last week added short burst of Sprinting ,two months of suffering gone .

Needless to say figured out my own therapy and never went, the pain is gone..Short 100 yard sprints 3 sets while walking the dog 3 times a week...as far as dairy ,Butter ,cheese with my beef couple times a week.never so glad to rid of that pain and numbness after just sitting for a few minutes Driving my car was painful..My wife works for Doordash food delivery,i drove her for 6 hours yesterday, no pain..it's a blessing...
Keto is good for weight loss, and healing the body but for primals who are primed and thriving, and have very good body composition and low body fat percentage, they need to focus on prioritizing protein (Carnivore) vs fat (Keto). Once you've lost the weight doing the IF and Keto, it's time to then focus on muscle and protein.
nope, even when lean you will perform and grow muscle optimally on a keto diet, trust me vie experimented extensively with both as a bodybuilder for many years.... and you DO NOT need very much protein to build/maintain muscle providing it is of high quality.

@@lionemporor yes, the body stores fat as fuel in times of food scarcity...an evolved survival mechanism....from back when food was harder to come by, which was most of our existence as a species. Which is why fat should make up the bulk of what you eat, when you are not feeding on your own stored supplies.
I'm 59 and have been on keto for 20 months. BP is great and I'm 25 pounds lighter. What is interesting is that my wife has a chronic hip condition causing her constant pain. By default she has reduced carbs substantially bit not completely. Her pain for the last 12 months has gone and she can now do yoga moves impossible before. We are now at a situation where do we continue as is, or try the keto for her. Surgery was the next option but, for the time being, is redundant.
Thank goodness you are doing a carnivore video with Shawn Baker! I have been carnivore now 20 weeks, age 77. Sounds like he is doing more fat, decreased amount of food, and fasting. Dr Boz also suggests heat - sauna.
I actually gained weight on the keto diet, but carnivore is finally working for me. My depression, psoriasis, and bloating have all evaporated into thin air.

I have found that the best way for me is to aim for carnivore but usually add a little celery or lettuce, and seeds. Then my clothing tells me the rest. It certainly is working. That’s all I need to know. 🇦🇺
I would have never gone off the keto diet if the end of my veggies days hadn’t come. After a couple of years of doing well on keto, I got sick again and had one leg in the grave and had to stop the veggies and go carnivore to stay alive. So, when I hear the word keto I think carnivore diet with some veggies allowed, and I can’t do anymore. But hearing what Dr. Baker has to say, I see now that carnivore peeps can still be keto.
@@BeefNEggs057 Fasting is how I lost 87 lbs. And I graduated from water fasting to dry fasting. I love the sardine fast and did it 3 times. But now I just make sure to eat at least 1 can of sardines a day. And I gotta try the more fat, but don’t really know how to do it. I can’t eat butter like the Steak and Butter Gal does bcuz I tried it and it’s not for me bcuz it brought up charley horses in my legs. But I cook with butter, eat browned butter candies sometimes, and never trim the fat from anything and eats the fat.
The same exact thing happened to me with vegetables. It took me many years and cycles of pain because I couldn’t believe it was the vegetables. The brainwashing has been so heavy. Sure enough the other day I had Romaine lettuce, two or three days in a row because I love it and then all of a sudden after 2 days my right knee felt like it was a brittle toothpick and was going to snap at any moment. It was so weird feeling like my leg had no stability at all. Of course I stopped eating it and went back to carnivore and now I have my strength back and the pain is gone. I just think that is so strange that my knee felt like a brittle piece of crumbling, rotted wood and now having stopped the romaine, the pain is gone, how can that be?? I know it’s true though because it has happened so many times. I also haven’t had a bladder infection and haven’t been to the hospital with kidney stones. I just really believe they are poisonous to some people. All the people in the world who are having all these problems if they only really knew they’re being poisoned by eating toxic vegetables! I think I can handle fruit as long as I don’t eat it too much and too often but vegetables that’s it. I’m done
@@thirstonhowellthebird Same here! I can have a few selections of fruit in moderation. Can’t overdo it. I think that the main thing with vegetables is that people don’t notice anything wrong until they get older. That’s what it is. And especially the fact that people don’t eat vegetables all that much but mainly bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. People gobble that up daily and don’t want to believe that veggies and starches are doing them in. And romaine lettuce is high in oxalate, so that’s probably why it went to town on your knees so fast and severely. There are some lettuce that are low in oxalate, so when you get a taste for it again try one of the low oxalate ones and see if there’s a difference.
I’m a little older than him. I have friends who do martial arts, and there’s a part of me that would love to go play with them. But then I hear stories like this and I remember I am an old guy that can stay fit and live just fine without it. A severe injury at our age or older can be a game ender. He’s lucky he was able to come back.
You can use organic essential oils for spot pain relief. After my spinal surgery I got certified as a master aromatherapist and make my own natural medicine. For pain, you can try peppermint, ginger, lemongrass, black pepper, lavender…put any/all about 16 drops per ounce of carrier oil(coconut, avocado, olive). Mix well and rub a bit where you feel the injury is.
For the OMAD person that has high glucose - it may be related to working out. Exercise can raise blood glucose. If so it's probably not a problem. Maybe they can measure their glucose several hours after a workout to see if it goes down.
I heard an interview with someone (Pete Jacobs, he works with Paul Mason) who was competing in triathlons who had been carnivore for a good time because of gutissues. He mentioned that his bloodglukose is often somewhat high and ketones fairly moderate (he wasn't sure if the reason the ketones are low is because they are used, he does hours of training almost every day, he speculated on that).

Nope it sounds like the person with the 118 morning glucose is becoming glucose intolerant. They need to add some mid day carbs to bring back the regular insulin numbers. You’re taking people into glucose resistance - just another problem. Watch Dr. Cywes - carb addiction doc. He has a really good system for keeping people metabolically flexible like Dr. Baker. Your system is great for people who have work to do. Once we get our goal weight or better in my case we need to work on flexibility.
Interesting! I'm 11 months carnivore. For the past few years I've been OMAD, so my one meal a day has been a large one with plenty of fat and protein. My ketones usually test in the 1-1.3 range, which is generally considered well into nutritional ketosis (my understanding that is > 0.3). However, I noticed in a recent blood test that my Trigs were higher than I wanted and my A1c was creeping up (was 4.6 after three months carnivore, now 5.0 after 11 months carnivore). Based on some information from Dr. Cywes, that got me thinking that my one large meal a day may not be the best approach, as some of that protein may be going to glucose, then to possibly to Trigs. So this week I split my one large meal into two smaller meals, eaten just a few hours apart. Same amount of food - I literally cook the same one meal and save half of it. I'm keeping an eating window of about 3-4 hours. Since doing this the past couple of days, I've noticed a large spike in my ketones. Yesterday I peaked at 6.97 and today 5.03. I've gotten higher numbers, but it usually requires a 7 day extended fast and by then I'm off the scale of what my ketone meter can measure (>8). I'm not even close to crazy fit like Dr. Baker - 5'11", 180lbs with an easy 20lbs to lose (down from 300 lbs in 2020). My exercise is not BJJ, but long, brisk walks and sprinting, which is a heck of a lot of fun. Anyway, I'm going to continue this for at least the next couple of months and do another set of blood tests to see what the results are. It's really interesting what small adjustments can do. I don't know that my ketones will remain this high, but I'm very curious to see if they do. I'm also interested to see if my scale weight changes - I've been hovering in the 175 - 180 range for the past several years. I'd love to drop that final 20 lbs.
Suuuper interesting info! Yes Dr Cwyes thinks 2 small meals is better than OMAD. And seems like u proving it true. Frightening that, even on carnivore, a1c can rise. I've always been suspicious of OMAD. I've heard that body can only utilize ~30g protein in one sitting. So it seems 2MAD would be quite necessary 🤔
Thank you. I started on Keto then switched to carnivore and OMAD resulting in a reversal of figures including weight gain. I’ve now changed back to eating less, and twice a day and the figures do show a difference for the better. Amazing!

Congratulations! You are quite in tune with your body. I can relate to some of your issues with elevated a1c. How do you define your carnivore diet? What do you eat? Only meat? No dairy? Anything else specific to your dos and don'ts regarding food choice? I listen to Cywes and Baker and Chaffee also.
After listening to Dr Cywes I've been sticking to a 6 hour eating window and eating my food in three meals, 3 hrs apart (11am, 2pm and 5.30 pm) and that works really well on days when I'm home and able to plan/cook for that. There are some days I still eat only one or two meals and I probably don't eat as much as I "should" on those days but I believe in mixing things up and keeping the body guessing so I don't worry about it. Prehistoric man didn't have calculators, glucose and ketone meters, and apps to keep track of macros and calories and survived so I guess I'll be fine too.
Go to a good chiropractor. Your C-7 needs adjusting. I had a bad injury decades ago with the same symptoms. I lost strength and my muscles atrophied in a very short time. Took a while after it healed to get my strength and muscle back in my shoulder and arm.
I 100% carnivore and my biggest problem is not eating enough. I have to force myself to eat twice a day. I do drink coffee a lot with heavy cream and butter in it and it keeps me satiated without going out of ketosis. IMO an injury is an injury and rather it's carnivore or keto with fasting you're going to have pain and some inflammation initially. I believe he would be feeling the same after a few days of healing no matter what his food lifestyle is, keto or carnivore.
@@blackbriarwolf5766 I don't drink, I don't smoke, I no longer eat for pleasure, I'm definitely not going to stop coffee. BTW, I drink 1 cup of caffeinated coffee in the morning and decaf the rest of the day.

I had a CGM for a month and noticed that my glucose would rise sharply after cardio (treadmill running). Also at nights I would get alerts of glucose below 60. Interesting month using a CGM.
Same here. Understand why the glucose rises during exercise but I would love to know why the crazy low dips in the middle of the night while sleeping????
Great conversation! Regarding the sound, it's not better. Sounds like the lab mic is not working at all and he's just being picked up from a distance by the phone. Getting as close as possible to the phone would be better.
You've made some mistakes here. The people dealing with high blood sugar on carnivore is because their insulin isn't being stimulated enough. The Keto doctor Dr. Cywes went over this. The body begins breaking down protein for sugar which results in insulin resistance. he corrected this in a carnivore patient by having him break up his one meal a day to 2 or 3, adding whole milk, and a small amount of fruit. The result was him going back into ketosis, his blood sugar coming back down to a good level, and his other markers all improving. Yes even in Keto or carnivore you need to create insulin spikes.
@@TheAnimalBasedCure people in past ( few decades ago ), not had problem with 2-3 sugar ( potatoes, rice or what ever ) meal in 1 day, but this days, most have problems. even with a better / cleaner diet ( not much ; oil / very refined plant-fat, salt / much more than some sodium, refined sugar, fiber, and water / liquid ), many people not fully recover. so what is wrong in the world ? what is govern-ment(al) doing now. ( haarp / antenna-facility etc , geo-engineering on sky, new chemicals / pills etc .
@@davidsan9583People have problems with diabetes (type 2) because of the over consumption of sugars/oils/fats/calories. Combined with more lazy lifestyle. Most people had physical jobs in the past. Farming, construction, logging etc. Today most people work behind a desk, sitting most of the day and drinking soda, and eating fast food. That's why people can't handle carbs. Too much carbs, too little exercise. It is very very rare for a slender person to get type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is directly connected to the body not being able to get rid of sugar because the cells are full. The cells are full because the muscles aren't being used. Someone who is physically active, and not eating too much wont' get diabetes.
The trigger for insulin production is incretins produced in the intestinal wall. Semaglutide, a modern medicine for the treatment of diabetes and obesity, is precisely a derivative of these incretins. If carbohydrates enter the body bypassing the intestines, intravenously, or are formed in the liver, insulin production is not as active.

Today I weigh 163 pounds (waist 32) and all of my health issues are gone. At my physical last week at the VA my doctor was completely amazed. My blood tests all came back great and my blood pressure was 125/70.

Ketosis is the biggest discovery of my life. In second day of fasting all the pain is gone. I can move, rotate my backbone and neck. It's just ok. I wish we had more doctors like you and dr Baker in Poland. Low carb saves lives and ketosis is a miracle we have programmed in our bodies, absolutely for free. I wish I knew it earlier. My both parents died because of how diabetes is treated by the system.

I was presently eating keto Shawn Baker was talking about eating only meat which I thought was odd but I didn’t really care for vegetables anyway so I thought I would give it a shot this was 2018 I have stayed with the Carnivore WOE ever since
Extra fat has been a miraculous aid with all kinds of stress for me lately. I’m loving my new non-anxious self, even more so than the changes from carnivore diet/cutting out plant toxins. I’m a little softer all around but stomach not bloated, still lean, no visceral fat in evidence, female 55, barely any menopause symptoms, energy for days and feeling optimistic and great despite all the same bullshit crap going on in the world, plus family visits.
Exactly the same for me - zero hot flushes, no PMS, no cramps no anxiety when stressy things crop up. I’m f50 yrs

As a massage therapist, I work on pinched nerves all the time and have gotten good at diagnosis and facilitating ease. I tell my clients, switch to carnivore, never see me again. Otherwise, see you next week.

I'm an RN nurse 20+ yrs. I had a shoulder problem waiting for surgery and couldn't lift my left arm. I went to see a chiropractor, one visit and I can lift my arm & pain is gone. Fabulous.

I asked if I needed to come back for ‘maintenance’ visits. The answer? Do you feel well, and is the issue gone? No further visits necessary. Any other time I’ve gone for separate issues, it’s been the same - instant relief or fix, no further visit required 😊

This was a good conversation. I did keto in 2018-2019 with great results but had kids and my schedule changed so I stopped and maintained ok for a couple years but looking to start again and was thinking about going full carnivore or keto so this was a great timing for me to listen to.
Every low-carb guru gives different advice. Joining the Keto community has given me a ton of success and helped me attain amazing metabolic results, but I've achieved this despite the kaleidoscope of opinions. It's unfortunate that so many people will run back to the simplicity of the SAD diet because they will get overwhelmed by the low carb noise.
How many other people immediately searched for the Joe Rogan episode upon Dr. Baker’s mention of it?? Haha! Rogan’s interviews are phenomenal especially when he interviews dr’s or scientists.

When Shawn flexed his neck to the right, you could tell that was there was significant freedom of motion there that allowed for painless rapid movement of his head.
Fasting all by itself is a significant motivation for metabolism.

You can do a ketogenic carnivore diet too. You just need to include enough fat (dietary or fatty acid oxidation through fasting).
@@Bourdjihez-M9b Thank you. Video title is "Keto vs Carnivore" but I barely understand the difference after watching this. I suppose they are referring to the fact that the body converts protein to glucose via gluconeogenesis, so a high protein diet can raise one's blood sugar.
Yes, humans can't convert protein to glucose fast enough to survive(rabbit starvation), so when at the lower body fat percentages, fat must make up 80 plus % of energy intake or it becomes a stress to the body.

I started with keto about 4 years ago and saw so much improvement in my health and weight, but it didn.t fix everything I wanted to fix. Moved over to carnivore and it took my health to a whole new level and stayed there the last 3 years.. I used my keto mojo tp calculate my GKI for a while to see if I was in ketosis on carnivore. I measured so often my poor fingers were black and blue, but the results were that there was a consistent level of glucose with no spicks and always had measurable ketones in my system. The GKI said for 12 hours a day I was not in ketosis, but the other 12 hours I was in low to medium ketosis depending on how far away from my 2MAD I was. If the meter had ever indicated zero ketones, I would have made changes to my diet, but as I had them 100 percent of time, I can live with that. No exogenous ketones or MCT oil needed. I am still fat adapted and the proof is I am on day 9 of a 14 day fast with no issues.
I want able to fast on my keto diet, and now moved into carnivore for 2-3 months. Will try to do a 24 hrs very soon. Looking forward to it!
@@MoneyStrategiesSOULutions It took me awhile to work up to this point. My body was so malnourished that when I finished a fast I would start binge eating. I stopped fast for over a year to let myself heal. Now I have total control and adjust fat and protein ratios intuitively.
The easiest way to do a 24 hour fast it to have your last meal at lunch time, say 12, then to eat the next day start eating at 1. You eat every day, but its still 24 hrs.
Great info! When were the 12 hours that you were not in ketosis? close to when u ate, farther from meals or another window of time? If the meter said 0 ketones what changes would you have made to your diet? 9 days on a fast is impressive. How much do you weigh?
@@verbatim187 About 1 hour after a meal my blood sugar would peak at about 101 or 102 and would be out of ketosis, then slowly go back down and ketones would slowly rise back up. The differences were minimal. There was always fairly normal blood glucose and ketones. If I were battling cancer or some other disease, it would be unacceptable, but as I am feeling great and my knee pain is under control eating this way, I am sticking to it. (I eat this way to control pain, not weight.)

I have Dr. Baker's problem currently, on my left side, my left thumb and index finger feels numb and feels on fire with stings. Over a month now. I surmised I have a pinched nerve in my neck. Caused by falling asleep at my desk and my head was drooped over all night. I went on to use my arms doing heavy automotive work and worsened my pain and shoulder and elbow also now bothering me. Since then, only my thumb and index finger are still tingling and numb. I will try his approach.

I admit, I'm one of those who thought the carnivore was an extreme version of the keto diet. That might explain why I never lost ALL of my body fat. Mind you, I feel amazing, and what little fat I have left on my body is not an issue any more. Learning new stuff all the time!
The carnivore diet is an extreme version of the Keto diet. It is Keto on steroids. Carnivore is still keto, but keto is not usually carnivore

I'm inclined to believe you, but I trust Dr. Baker's take on things. So... I'm not sure what more to say. (I think it's agreed that either way is fine, health wise.)
I agree that carnivore is keto; as long as there is enough fat, and not too much protein. I’ve done these experiments myself. I would knock myself out of ketosis just from adding more meat/proteins. As soon as I cut back a little on the protein and added a little more fat, I went back into ketosis. I believe it’s an individualized balance between the two and everybody is different.
I’ve been carnivore for one year and I feel amazing.

I had severe pain in my hip and backside that shot down my leg and calve only while sitting.Had lost 115 lbs rapidly keto /carnivor,and intermittent fasting since March ..was only walking my dog for exercise on the Beach..Last week added short burst of Sprinting ,two months of suffering gone .

Needless to say figured out my own therapy and never went, the pain is gone..Short 100 yard sprints 3 sets while walking the dog 3 times a week...as far as dairy ,Butter ,cheese with my beef couple times a week.never so glad to rid of that pain and numbness after just sitting for a few minutes Driving my car was painful..My wife works for Doordash food delivery,i drove her for 6 hours yesterday, no pain..it's a blessing...

Keto is good for weight loss, and healing the body but for primals who are primed and thriving, and have very good body composition and low body fat percentage, they need to focus on prioritizing protein (Carnivore) vs fat (Keto). Once you've lost the weight doing the IF and Keto, it's time to then focus on muscle and protein.
nope, even when lean you will perform and grow muscle optimally on a keto diet, trust me vie experimented extensively with both as a bodybuilder for many years.... and you DO NOT need very much protein to build/maintain muscle providing it is of high quality.

@@lionemporor yes, the body stores fat as fuel in times of food scarcity...an evolved survival mechanism....from back when food was harder to come by, which was most of our existence as a species. Which is why fat should make up the bulk of what you eat, when you are not feeding on your own stored supplies.
I'm 59 and have been on keto for 20 months. BP is great and I'm 25 pounds lighter. What is interesting is that my wife has a chronic hip condition causing her constant pain. By default she has reduced carbs substantially bit not completely. Her pain for the last 12 months has gone and she can now do yoga moves impossible before. We are now at a situation where do we continue as is, or try the keto for her.
Surgery was the next option but, for the time being, is redundant.

Take a good dose of bromelain (pineapple enzyme) on an empty stomach. It is a great anti-inflammatory. It is a natural blood thinner too.

I have found that the best way for me is to aim for carnivore but usually add a little celery or lettuce, and seeds. Then my clothing tells me the rest.

So true. I’ve had to stop full carnivore through lack of energy. Now I’m carnivore till supper then steak and salad. Seems to work for me.
I would have never gone off the keto diet if the end of my veggies days hadn’t come. After a couple of years of doing well on keto, I got sick again and had one leg in the grave and had to stop the veggies and go carnivore to stay alive. So, when I hear the word keto I think carnivore diet with some veggies allowed, and I can’t do anymore. But hearing what Dr. Baker has to say, I see now that carnivore peeps can still be keto.
Add fasting and more fat/less protein. Could do some sardine fasts or water fasts if you’re up for it.
@@BeefNEggs057 Fasting is how I lost 87 lbs. And I graduated from water fasting to dry fasting. I love the sardine fast and did it 3 times. But now I just make sure to eat at least 1 can of sardines a day. And I gotta try the more fat, but don’t really know how to do it. I can’t eat butter like the Steak and Butter Gal does bcuz I tried it and it’s not for me bcuz it brought up charley horses in my legs. But I cook with butter, eat browned butter candies sometimes, and never trim the fat from anything and eats the fat.
The same exact thing happened to me with vegetables. It took me many years and cycles of pain because I couldn’t believe it was the vegetables. The brainwashing has been so heavy. Sure enough the other day I had Romaine lettuce, two or three days in a row because I love it and then all of a sudden after 2 days my right knee felt like it was a brittle toothpick and was going to snap at any moment. It was so weird feeling like my leg had no stability at all. Of course I stopped eating it and went back to carnivore and now I have my strength back and the pain is gone. I just think that is so strange that my knee felt like a brittle piece of crumbling, rotted wood and now having stopped the romaine, the pain is gone, how can that be?? I know it’s true though because it has happened so many times. I also haven’t had a bladder infection and haven’t been to the hospital with kidney stones. I just really believe they are poisonous to some people. All the people in the world who are having all these problems if they only really knew they’re being poisoned by eating toxic vegetables! I think I can handle fruit as long as I don’t eat it too much and too often but vegetables that’s it. I’m done
@@thirstonhowellthebird Same here! I can have a few selections of fruit in moderation. Can’t overdo it. I think that the main thing with vegetables is that people don’t notice anything wrong until they get older. That’s what it is. And especially the fact that people don’t eat vegetables all that much but mainly bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc. People gobble that up daily and don’t want to believe that veggies and starches are doing them in.
And romaine lettuce is high in oxalate, so that’s probably why it went to town on your knees so fast and severely. There are some lettuce that are low in oxalate, so when you get a taste for it again try one of the low oxalate ones and see if there’s a difference.

I’m a little older than him. I have friends who do martial arts, and there’s a part of me that would love to go play with them. But then I hear stories like this and I remember I am an old guy that can stay fit and live just fine without it. A severe injury at our age or older can be a game ender. You can use organic essential oils for spot pain relief. After my spinal surgery I got certified as a master aromatherapist and make my own natural medicine. For pain, you can try peppermint, ginger, lemongrass, black pepper, lavender…put any/all about 16 drops per ounce of carrier oil(coconut, avocado, olive). Mix well and rub a bit where you feel the injury is.

For the OMAD person that has high glucose - it may be related to working out. Exercise can raise blood glucose. If so it's probably not a problem. Maybe they can measure their glucose several hours after a workout to see if it goes down.

I heard an interview with someone (Pete Jacobs, he works with Paul Mason) who was competing in triathlons who had been carnivore for a good time because of gutissues. He mentioned that his bloodglukose is often somewhat high and ketones fairly moderate (he wasn't sure if the reason the ketones are low is because they are used, he does hours of training almost every day, he speculated on that).
For sure blood glucose will typically go up during a workout. Gluconeogenesis is remarkably good at producing the requisite amount of glucose 😁

I haven’t achieved ketosis yet but 4 weeks of eating unprocessed foods, heavy on butter, eggs, meat has reduced my neuropathic pain.

Nope it sounds like the person with the 118 morning glucose is becoming glucose intolerant. They need to add some mid day carbs to bring back the regular insulin numbers. You’re taking people into glucose resistance - just another problem. Watch Dr. Cywes - carb addiction doc. He has a really good system for keeping people metabolically flexible like Dr. Baker. Your system is great for people who have work to do. Once we get our goal weight or better in my case we need to work on flexibility.

Interesting! I'm 11 months carnivore. For the past few years I've been OMAD, so my one meal a day has been a large one with plenty of fat and protein. My ketones usually test in the 1-1.3 range, which is generally considered well into nutritional ketosis (my understanding that is > 0.3).
However, I noticed in a recent blood test that my Trigs were higher than I wanted and my A1c was creeping up (was 4.6 after three months carnivore, now 5.0 after 11 months carnivore). Based on some information from Dr. Cywes, that got me thinking that my one large meal a day may not be the best approach, as some of that protein may be going to glucose, then to possibly to Trigs. So this week I split my one large meal into two smaller meals, eaten just a few hours apart. Same amount of food - I literally cook the same one meal and save half of it. I'm keeping an eating window of about 3-4 hours.
Since doing this the past couple of days, I've noticed a large spike in my ketones. Yesterday I peaked at 6.97 and today 5.03. I've gotten higher numbers, but it usually requires a 7 day extended fast and by then I'm off the scale of what my ketone meter can measure (>8).
I'm not even close to crazy fit like Dr. Baker - 5'11", 180lbs with an easy 20lbs to lose (down from 300 lbs in 2020). My exercise is not BJJ, but long, brisk walks and sprinting, which is a heck of a lot of fun.
Anyway, I'm going to continue this for at least the next couple of months and do another set of blood tests to see what the results are.
It's really interesting what small adjustments can do. I don't know that my ketones will remain this high, but I'm very curious to see if they do. Suuuper interesting info! Yes Dr Cwyes thinks 2 small meals is better than OMAD. And seems like u proving it true. Frightening that, even on carnivore, a1c can rise. I've always been suspicious of OMAD. I've heard that body can only utilize ~30g protein in one sitting. So it seems 2MAD would be quite necessary 🤔
Thank you. I started on Keto then switched to carnivore and OMAD resulting in a reversal of figures including weight gain. I’ve now changed back to eating less, and twice a day and the figures do show a difference for the better. Amazing!

Congratulations! You are quite in tune with your body. I can relate to some of your issues with elevated a1c. How do you define your carnivore diet? What do you eat? Only meat? No dairy? Anything else specific to your dos and don'ts regarding food choice? I listen to Cywes and Baker and Chaffee also.
After listening to Dr Cywes I've been sticking to a 6 hour eating window and eating my food in three meals, 3 hrs apart (11am, 2pm and 5.30 pm) and that works really well on days when I'm home and able to plan/cook for that. There are some days I still eat only one or two meals and I probably don't eat as much as I "should" on those days but I believe in mixing things up and keeping the body guessing so I don't worry about it. Prehistoric man didn't have calculators, glucose and ketone meters, and apps to keep track of macros and calories and survived so I guess I'll be fine too.
Go to a good chiropractor. Your C-7 needs adjusting. I had a bad injury decades ago with the same symptoms. I lost strength and my muscles atrophied in a very short time. Took a while after it healed to get my strength and muscle back in my shoulder and arm.
I 100% carnivore and my biggest problem is not eating enough. I have to force myself to eat twice a day. I do drink coffee a lot with heavy cream and butter in it and it keeps me satiated without going out of ketosis.
IMO an injury is an injury and rather it's carnivore or keto with fasting you're going to have pain and some inflammation initially. I believe he would be feeling the same after a few days of healing no matter what his food lifestyle is, keto or carnivore.
@@blackbriarwolf5766 I don't drink, I don't smoke, I no longer eat for pleasure, I'm definitely not going to stop coffee. BTW, I drink 1 cup of caffeinated coffee in the morning and decaf the rest of the day.

I had a CGM for a month and noticed that my glucose would rise sharply after cardio (treadmill running). Also at nights I would get alerts of glucose below 60.

Glucose rises for exercise because the blood is actively transporting energy to the muscles.
Same here. Understand why the glucose rises during exercise but I would love to know why the crazy low dips in the middle of the night while sleeping????

I always find it funny how excited they get when talking about keto or carnivore diet.
You've made some mistakes here. The people dealing with high blood sugar on carnivore is because their insulin isn't being stimulated enough. The Keto doctor Dr. Cywes went over this. The body begins breaking down protein for sugar which results in insulin resistance. he corrected this in a carnivore patient by having him break up his one meal a day to 2 or 3, adding whole milk, and a small amount of fruit. The result was him going back into ketosis, his blood sugar coming back down to a good level, and his other markers all improving. Yes even in Keto or carnivore you need to create insulin spikes.

As a type 1 diabetic… I get exactly as much insulin as I inject. It’s not entirely a bad thing.
@@davidsan9583People have problems with diabetes (type 2) because of the over consumption of sugars/oils/fats/calories. Combined with more lazy lifestyle. Most people had physical jobs in the past. Farming, construction, logging etc. Today most people work behind a desk, sitting most of the day and drinking soda, and eating fast food. That's why people can't handle carbs. Too much carbs, too little exercise. It is very very rare for a slender person to get type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is directly connected to the body not being able to get rid of sugar because the cells are full. The cells are full because the muscles aren't being used. Someone who is physically active, and not eating too much wont' get diabetes.
The trigger for insulin production is incretins produced in the intestinal wall. Semaglutide, a modern medicine for the treatment of diabetes and obesity, is precisely a derivative of these incretins. If carbohydrates enter the body bypassing the intestines, intravenously, or are formed in the liver, insulin production is not as active.
I would be curious what less food means to Dr Shawn Baker, instead of 5 lbs of ribeyes per day it 2 lbs of ribeyes and a stick of butter

Yes this is right. Since he is on carnivore diet, he's adding fat from meats. (Keto diet also allows plants & plant fats like avocado & nuts)

I now focus on protein consumption with fats! At least 110 grams of quality meat protein for my weight of 150 lbs! And I continue doing strength training.
