I've been grain-free and mostly keto, and have been cycling thru different lengths of water fasts (up to 4+ days) for 10 months now. In that time, I have dealt with the sudden, accidental death of my childhood best friend, my daughter's wedding, a few heart-related health scares for my father, and the return of my son to military his base after being home on leave, twice. When you talk about the psychology of previously being comforted by food, and having to buckle down and have the discipline to prevent yourself from indulging in your favorite "comfort foods", that's no joke!! My husband is SOOO proud of my discipline, given all that I've dealt with this past year, but man IT'S HARD sometimes!!

My first fast in 2019 was a struggle to get to 24 hours. I started with eating my last meal about 4 pm and didn’t go back into the galley - I live aboard a boat - until next morning for black coffee. From there I just kept at it, took Dr Boz class and slowly built to ability to do 72 hour fasting routinely or at least every two weeks. In between I do a 24-48 hour fast weekly. If I can do it so can you, I dropped 90 lbs and have successfully kept it ever since. No other “diet“ did that

Hello Doctor Boz...I am 61 and watched your sardine challenge video months ago and decided it was the way to go...I found the high quality sardines in olive oil the most palatable. Went well and easily did 72hrs as I was already eating keto. Have since done a 72hr water fast about once a month since and day 2 and 3 I call my euphoria days....I just float....No joint pain... Feel amazing and easily hit 72hrs ...I add apple cider vinegar to my water hydration and cayenne pepper....love it.... List 10 kgs and feeling fantastic... Long live fasting

My glucose this morning was 80, ketones 4.2. No fasting. Eat to the chemistry every day, stay in nutritional ketosis every day without fasting. Quit overeating. Set up Cronometer, follow it, get your fat up to 85%-90%, protein and carbs 10-15%. Keep your cells bathed in ketones every day. Don’t settle for ketosis 2 days a week. It’s your life.

@@awesometulips9427 Consistently since last December. I was so resistant to tracking my food and measuring every day but I was so sick and nothing else was working. 4 years carnivore, tried 3 day fasts many, many times, sardine fasts, all the popular stuff. I was simply overeating protein and under eating fat. I’m 70, have had ME for decades, I’m reversing this cursed condition at long last. My morning glucose is usually in the 70s and ketones are always over 3, usually over 3.5 and over 4 is common.

@@suek4578 I eat twice a day, my aim is to have 16-20g protein each time with an added ounce of animal fat, then a couple of hours after lunch I have another ounce of fat. If I’m really struggling in the early evening I’ll have a tbsp MCT oil but that’s kinda rare.

I am new to this yesterday/ today,, I just order a keto breath gadget on Amazon, hoping it will help me stay motivated and on track. I have lost weight ,not all at least 50 times in my life and gain it back . I notice i do better and feel better when i eat mostly meat and veg. I think this keto diet is the same so I have decided to try this because I feel it is my last chance in life. The last time i lost weight was 4 years ago. I went under two hundred pounds , I was excited and hopeful until i for what ever reason stopped and gained it all back and more. always more . I can't afford to repeat my life long behavior because this last time devasted me to my soul . I can't bare to do this again.. It has taken me four years to try and find hope and the will to try again.

I've watched you for a long time, and your videos are absolutely top shelf. I have learned so much. There is one thing you do that I can't do. I cannot fast. If I fast for 24 or 36 hours, I get very sick when I start eating again. This happens every time. I've tried fasting 100 times. I've never been able to not be sick to my stomach afterwards, so I just quit doing it. It doesn't matter what I eat after the fast. It can be the softest scrambled eggs. I still get sick or throw up. Everything else but fasting is perfect.

Okay, you convinced me. I haven't tried sardines many years, and I did an internet search for sardines that don't taste too fishy / strong. I I'm going to try the Costco sardines with no skin and no bones. It is probably closer to tuna fish. I figure if I don't like it I'm sure it would be good for my doggo.

I remembered that i use to do magic mushrooms when i was about 20 years old...i'm 47 now, female...and at that time i heard that the psilocybine would work much better when fasted. So at 20 i regurly fasted to make sure i had i good trip😊 magic mushrooms don't go together with food and especially sugars and make me less hungry. So i started doing that again and i microdosed. And the psilocybine puts you into your feelings and out of your thinking. First i ate lowcarb for a month, then started intermittent fasting, then started omad and carnivore with ferments and then introduced the mushrooms...like the shamans used to do: fasting first and then the plant medicine...always take the plant medicine fasted.
To me it's a very nice and extra spiritual way to fast and to make fasting fun.
Sometimes i really long to go into a longer fast with some psilocybine at the end because i love the way it makes me feel: younger, more elastic, more connected and sparkling❤

Hey there fellow keton-iens, i think if you hate to fast its because it might be that you haven't riding the fatty way of life. Cause if you are a hardcore fat eater. Your body knows to eat its self. And there is no hunger. Been doing this for 7 years now and i fast every other day. Just because I can. Not to mention how much money I save!!!! I feel amazing glucose 51 and ketones at 1.9 lost 220 lbs. Can't wait till i can attend one of your Tuesday meetings.

Heavy Protein and fat 17:44 in the evening causes blood sugar rise during the night and then will start to decrease about 5 am. Lessen your protien and fat for 30 days and see if that helps. Use more protein and fat during the day to get at least 100 grams of protein and fat.

This is a really good video. But I didn't hear some explanations that I needed.
First, what are the rules you talk about? Are they to follow the continuum and succeed at each stage before moving onto the next?
Second, during the slide that lists mitochondria, fat adapted and psychology...are you saying that if your mitochondria are not healthy then your fast won't work properly? And you have to be fat adapted too? And what about psychology? I get that social influences impact us, but it's unclear to me what you suggest we do about it.
And last, when you answered the first person's question about which type of fast do you do or prefer? I don't know what your answer was, and I'd like to know. Because it kinda seems like you're saying alternate day fasting, and yet you're doing 60-72 hr fasts.
So regarding the title "do this if you hate fasting", besides following the continuum properly, are you saying that a sardine fast is recommended a few times before a water fast?
    Thank you. 🙂
PS: I took the first class, and look forward to doing the new 2.0 version!

What if we're trying to build muscle and spending an hour weight training most days? I'm eating mostly carnivore, but since I don't enjoy eating meat at all, get tired of eating lots of eggs and cheese, I don't eat much at a time. The boney and gaunt at 59 isn't pretty (lost all my desirable curves recently as well. Ugh). If I didn't still have excess skin from weight loss the thinness would be more pronounced. Muscle seems difficult to build in a fasted state if one is already thin. 10:56

Read Any Way You Can and watched videos for 4 years. I have learned so much! Tonight's video was just great!! BUT - I never hear anything in context to INJECTED INSULIN. I am still injecting insulin. My doctor has reduced it quite a bit since I began the low carb diet (20gm or less/day). I'm hugely insuline resistant, I stop eating at 4 or 5 pm and at 7 the next morning, my glucose is STILL CLIMBING. I have a Dexcom. I'm overweight for many years. Am I supposed to wait until I'm not injecting ANY INSULIN before I worry about making & burning ketones? It sounds to me like this whole thing is not for folks who are injecting insulin...

Why would someone feel weaker and weaker and dizzier. Would they still be running on glucose? Does the body not switch sometimes?

How is your sister in law doing? Did she lost the weight? Did she keep it down? Is she better?

Hi Dr Boz! I've been consuming a lot of your content recently and have been monitoring my levels with ketomojo. I consistently keep my glucose low (~50-80s) and ketones high (4+ even up to 8 or more). My highest ratio was 32 in the last week. I've been as low as 9, but I've stalled anyway. I'm either doing it wrong or I'm inadvertently doing something to skew my numbers. I'm carnivore (no dairy except heavy cream in coffee in the am). I am not fasting. I am currently exclusively breastfeeding an infant, so I'm hesitant to fast, especially without direction. Any ideas?

I HATE FASTING! I am not a Natural faster. I have NEVER felt Amazing during or after a fast. I have only felt hunger. What do I do?

I had to stop Keto because I am an LMHR and my cholesterol skyrocketed along with my apoB levels. For some reason, I also have high hs-CRP likely due to autoimmunity or osteoarthritis but I had to stop doing keto. :( That part of the chemistry does not work for me! I am back to my usual low carb diet with about 75g carbs.

At Virta they found cholesterol goes up, mostly large fluffy but regulates back to lower after a year or two.

Can you please do a show for diabetics stuck on insulin.

@@K8flan007 Thanks for asking this! The more I learn, the more I believe that this whole course is NOT for people injecting insulin. But I can't just stop! The low carb has allowed me to drop almost all the fast-acting, and the long acting has now been reduced in stages to 18 by my doctor.
