    Hey there, did you ever find the setting to manually adjust the ISO in video mode? i'm torn between this camera and the G7, but i mainly film in the dark, so it's massively important to be able to manually adjust the ISO?

    • @vecovillafilm1571
      @vecovillafilm1571 4 роки тому

      El ISO no se puede programar en video en la lumix gx850, este utiliza su iso automatico que es bueno pero no para graduarlo manualmente, pero lo que si se puede es usar el boton foto 4k rafaga y ponerlo en S/S asi si podras usar el iso a tu manera pero solo se grabara en 4k a 30 fps y a la ves saldra lo grabado en varias fotos. No podras usar esta opcion por mucho tiempo por que recalienta el sensor,solo podras usarlo para hacer tomas cortas o varias tomas cortas en video pero con reposo.

    Jordan, do you use IA or do you manually set all your camera settings? If so, could you do a video on it. Or, at least least them. I LOVE the clarity you get and can't seem to reach it myself. Thanks. I'm speaking primarily about the G7.

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому

      I've done a lot of testing and tweaking with the G7. For this video I was using the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens (not the kit lens that's included). I usually film at aperture f/1.7, shutter speed 100 or 125 (since I do 1080p 60fps) and ISO 200-400, depending on how bright my lighting is.
      I've recently gone back and forth using the 12-32 Panasonic lens (not the G7 kit lens, but the lens that comes with the GX850) and its f/3.5 at the widest, so I've been doing f/3.5, 100 shutter speed, and 400 ISO mostly.

    The LX100 for roughly the same price point a way better camera (mainly also because of the lense but also the software (manually set the ISO also in video mode and no 20 mins video restriction).
    Biggest flaw of that camera is the non titltable screen.
    Though it can be used for vlogging as I do that pretty regulary by setting it to manual focus turn the camera around so the lense faces me. Hit the back button for focussing and hit record (yes I memorized the button positions to do this pretty fast).

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому +1

      I used the LX100 as a daily vlogging camera for a little while. You're absolutely right, it's a great camera. Looks like it's $150 more for it right now, and the non-movable screen bugged me.

    Hi Jordan! I'm having a really hard time making a decision between just getting a flagship phone to record my youtube videos or just sticking with my samsung s6 and buying a separate dedicated camera for my videos. I personally have no issues with my phone so the upgrade to a flagship phone isn't really too necessary. Just wondering whether the differences between the flagship phones right now and their cameras will be noticeable. Also.. is there any particular camera you'd recommend under 500 dollars? thanks in advance!

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  6 років тому

      Have you started making videos yet? From what I remember, the Galaxy S6 can record 4k video (or 1080p60), which is a great place to start, just have to deal with storage limitations, but even then, you've probably got a microSD card slot you could save videos to.

      Thanks so much for the response Jordan! I'm still curious though, how are something like an s9 that can shoot 4k at 60 fps different from the g7 which can only shoot 4k upto 30 fps? the numbers lead me to believe that the s9 is better but that can't be right, right? Hope you could clear out this confusion of mine

    Concerning video with this camera, it's better to think of 4k Photo mode as "4k 30fps Video mode" with full manual features that everyone expects. It has the benefit of changing aspect ratios too (not many cameras do that). This camera is still a sleeper in 2022.

    Does this camera have a manual video mode, allowing one to choose Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO?

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому +1

      Unfortunately no. There's no dedicated video mode at all, and if you have the camera set to "Manual" mode, it still will auto-adjust some settings (ISO, at least) to try to make sure you get a good image.

    • @podcastenglish
      @podcastenglish 7 років тому

      Thanks. This is what I expected with this series. Do you know if it has an exposure lock button? Does it work after pressing the video record button? This would allow the camera to have some sort of setting to dial in the exposure.

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому +2

      Ooh, that actually works. I remapped one of the Fn buttons to AE Lock, and turned on "AF/AE Lock Hold", and that seems to do the trick. It's not manual control, but if you can get the exposure where you want it and hit the button to hold it there, seems to do the trick.
      I picked up a variable ND filter for my lens, so technically I can set the AE lock then use the fader to get manual control over it.

    • @CarolinaFerrales
      @CarolinaFerrales 7 років тому

      Sorry, to bring back John's question, not to clear for me yet. Putting ISO aside, will I be able to set the Shutter speed for video and will the camera respect that? at least after pressing the exposure lock button? Also, not a mirrorless user so far, been doing video with Canon for a while, and this will be like an extra body mostly for getting to know this system but also to throw a 4k video every once in a while, so would you recommend this one or the G7?

    • @podcastenglish
      @podcastenglish 7 років тому

      Panasonic has dumb-downed this camera's video mode with no manual exposure in video. You'll be fighting it to get (with the exposure lock) the shutter and aperture to behave. If it's size you want, I'd go for the GX85- otherwise, go for the G7.

    Canon EOS M100 or GX850 ?

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  6 років тому +1

      for 1080p60, probably the M100. the GX850 has some horrible autofocus noise, and Panasonic's traditional autofocus hunting issues that Canon most likely won't. If you're using an external recorder and don't mind the autofocusing issues, and want 4k (though limited to 5 minutes at a time) the GX850 is alright.

      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому +1

      Very good point! I haven't found myself using slow motion for the style of videos I do, but if you render at 24fps, you could always film 1080p60 and slow it down smoothly in post.

    • @RUS-dv5sm
      @RUS-dv5sm 7 років тому +1

      ***** Yea 60fps will be quite ok for slow motion videos but at least 120fps is ideal for a smooth slow motion video. Even smartphones can film at 240fps. Maybe they will integrate slow motion video in a future update. Also only 5 min 4k video is very limiting in 2017.

    Unfortunately you are mistaken about the whole manual ISO that get's ignored by the camera: There is NO way to shoot video at a specific f-stop, shutterspeed or ISO.
    Yes, the camera let's you make settings for all this... for example shutterspeed or f-stop, BUT once you press the record button and the video gets recorded, the camera simply films fully automatic in whatever setting it likes to. It does not simply ignore your manual ISO, but also your shutter and f-stop.
    This is a HUGE drawback in my opinion and makes it pretty much useless for any semi-professional video work. The ONLY thing you CAN actually set is EV.... so you can over or underexpose... but you CAN NOT film at a specific f-stop, shutter or ISO. Simply not possible. These settings are only active for photography.
    In video, the camera simply does whatever it wants.
    Very bad move from Panasonic actually.

  • @classicme
    @classicme 7 років тому +1

    hi
    Great video but when I compared this video with your review of LX10… I couldn’t help
    but think you were not very honest with us… I know… I like very much Panasonics cameras too and it is very hard to me to say bad words about it’s products but… let’s be frank GX800/850 for video purposes… is just disaster…
    Lets first thing first… it is absolutely brilliant camera for pictures. There is strong competition on this field however so Panasonic decided to add flippable touchscreen and 4K capability…
    Now. You actually said almost nothing about 4K. Let me do it. Panasonic claims you can take 5 min of 4K recording… pipe dream…. Yes, to be frank… it is possible … just once a while. When camera is a bit warm recording time is shortened sometime to even 1 min… Example: I did just some pictures in 4k Mode for 5 seconds and then decided to take footage, camera allowed me to do 1 minute and 32 seconds… It gets switched off so often that your vexation getting through roof… I really had temptation to crash it on the wall. Hold On! You can switch to HD!!! Then you discover you can’t because of noise from Continuous AF… I’m talking about camera with flipped touch screen so I guess designed among others for video enthusiasts… I mean for example vlogers… Camera which doesn't cost dirt money…
    I bought DX 800 (European version DX850) straight after launch and sent it back very next day…
    Again: I like Panasonic, I love my G7 and like my LX15 (which also records video with kind of noise but it is not from AF, I comes from inside, tasted 3 of them and in the end gave up and decided to live with it, it is not as loud as in GX800) and I really were looked forward GX 800. For one who is curious my sample from GX800 with noise is here:
    ua-cam.com/video/IIl_JFskyGA/v-deo.html
    Forgot to add. Noise from AF wasn't there when use 4K video mode... very strange. I tried my gx800 with different lenses, nothing changed. So lets add it up. This camera is quiet when use 4K which you can't use bacause of overheating and has HD mode which you can't use because of noise... sweet :( It doesn't change my adoration to G7 though :)

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому

      I don't believe I was dishonest in this video. I didn't go in-depth about 4k because I don't usually film in 4k, and so I haven't experimented much with it in that way yet. Thanks for pointing out that the AF noise is better in 4k, btw! It's still there, but much quieter.
      I definitely said during the video that it's not a great camera for vloggers, but if you're willing to turn off continuous autofocus or use an external mic, the video quality looks excellent. For the price (I paid $500 for my G7) I think the G7 is a much better alternative, but considering the size, I still think this camera can be a great second, or even main, camera.

    • @classicme
      @classicme 7 років тому

      Well, I think I expressed myself a bit wrong, I’m sorry. Saying You were not very honest I meant that on the video You looked like someone who want to say something else and hesitate about it.
      But it could be just my impression backed by my bad experience with this camera.
      Anyway, great video and nice comparison with g7.
      I agree with you that it is great camera but I stand with my opinion that it is useless for video despite excellent video picture quality. I can’t imagine to run vlog or take family video with such noise in the background. (Switching AF off when filming running child is not an option.. is it?)
      I believe Panasonic will take lesson and next model will be better. If so, it be hard to find anything better.
      Thanks for your videos, I really think you do great job. :)

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому +1

      You're absolutely right, for daily vlogging or family videos, the GX850 is definitely not the best option. I think I mentioned that in the video, but I can't remember at the moment. :)
      I use the Panasonic LX10 for that style of video, and it's excellent. It's got an f/1.4 aperture at the widest, flip out screen, up to 15 mins of 4k at a time, and continuous autofocus, without the grinding noise the GX850 has.

    • @cdavidancell
      @cdavidancell 7 років тому +1

      I had a GX850 but ultimately ends up exchanging it for an LX10, which I'm still using. I found that the grinding noise got into the audio not only from the autofocus, but also if I turned the autofocus off and had the stabilization on. I could probably use it with the single focus setting if I had to, but I wasn't going to use it without stabilization. Other than the kit lens, I don't own any of the others you use. I did try the 14 - 140 lens on the GX850 (which is a huge lens for this camera), and I didn't hear the lens noise in the camera.
      I also found that the button presses got into the audio of this camera more than they do with the LX10. I agree with you that the LX10 would be better for some kind of everyday or vlogging use.
