+Joel Kleiner I've purchased a few lenses for it, some with optical stabilization and some not. I can tell it does make a difference, mostly for video.
I love the 5-axis stabilization on the GX80/85.. The 4K shooting output while in motion is stunning.. The camera you've got, Stabilization is in the lens.. If you've seen reviews of the video stabilization on the G80/85, how would you say it compares to this? I'm pretty torn between the two.. I was looking at the LX15 before I found out you can't have any stabilization in 4K video. That is something most people would never know before buying unless they read the notes on Panasonic's website. Can you actually use the GX800 while it is charging? GX80/85 Amazon are selling for £542 with £100 cashback.. £442 GX800 Amazon are selling for £419 with £30 cashback.. £389 So there's not really a lot in it price wise.
+Cell-Cultured Meat So, this isn't too bad if you have a stabilized lens. But I've noticed a big difference between lenses that are stabilized and those that aren't, so it will definitely limit your choices. Since buying this camera I have also purchased the Panasonic G7 used for $450, and I have to say that if I had to do it all over, I would have just gone straight to the G7. It has built-in stabilization into the body (although I think it's only two or three axis, not five). But it handles so much better! The G7 also has the rotating screen and touchscreen, which is one of the reasons why I went with the GX800/850 in the first place. The G7 also has a microphone input, which has been nice. We can also record in 4K without overheating, which the GX850 did run into a few times. So if I had to steer someone towards the new GX850 or a used G7, I would tell them to go with the G7. It's not as big of a deal to purchase a used micro 4/3's camera because it does not have a mechanical shutter that would wear out.
Thanks for this deep review it helped me a lot. I was wondering, where did you get that horizontal liquid indicator on the camera and how did you fix it?
You said that battery life, users were reporting recording at 4K for an hour or more, from all of the reviews I've read and watched, the camera heats up and shuts down after a mere 5 minutes of 4K, and 15 minutes of 1080p, can you speak to that now that you've had it for a while?
+Brittney Lynn So yes, I didn't mean to confuse anyone: the camera does limit the recording times. I've never had mine heat up (yet) because most of my video clips are no more than 2-3 minutes at a time, then in between I'm usually swapping lenses and taking 3-4 minutes from actively recording (even though the camera is still on). I do get well over 1 hour of battery life with this approach.
+Don Dudley Sony RX10 ii - I bought it new for $1400, and while it's been a great camera, it's time for it to go: 1- it's a bridge camera, so it has a fixed lens which means I'm stuck with the lens it comes with. (it's a great lens, but still limiting) 2 - it's more camera than I need. 3 - it's not very compact. 4 - it does not have a touchscreen and the user interface is difficult and tedious to use
Images or video? Depending on the lens, you will have built an optical image stabilization on the lens. The kit lens does a pretty good job with this if you have it enabled
How do you find it for vlogging? From sample footage it seems that its really shaky, is that something you noticed? Im considering this for the new vlog camera vs. a canon g7x
+Justin & Sarah VLOGS. It's not as easy of a camera to use as something like the Canon G7X or Sony RX100. But I think with a little work, you can get better results. If you skip through parts of this video (ua-cam.com/video/vx1dp3bBgjk/v-deo.html) all of that footage would be similar to a vlog style video, and I used the GX850 exclusively for that video.
Since you cant set shutter speed for video, can you set it to 1/50, LOCK the exposure and start the video? Another question is that, there is this flicker reduction thing. If you set it to 1/50 it will fix shutter speed for 1/50?
+szilagyipetihu Good point, since doing this video I have realized that there is a "flicker reduction" Setting under the video settings. You can use it to lock the shutter speed to certain presets: 1/50, 1/60, 1/100, 1/120. Those settings will be helpful for anyone shooting in 24 fps, 30 fps, 50 fps, and 60 fps.
Techy Agent So I can set for example f3.5 iso200 and 1/50 (flicker setting) and I will have full manual settings and neither of these settings will change?
+szilagyipetihu that is correct, you would need to shoot in manual mode and block out your aperture and ISO and set the Flickr setting to 1/50, and then you would have for manual control.
Techy Agent Very cool. As an amateur videographer I need 4K and manual settings and since I always shoot at 1/50 this camera will be a perfect upgrade for my D3300. Thank you, I subscribed!
The five-minute limitation is not because of the card, it’s because the camera heats up. So if you do get a five minute limitation, you will have to switch over to 1080P in order to keep recording. After several minutes of not recording in 4K, you can switch back to 4K and continue in 4K for another 5 minutes. It’s disappointing that this has that limitation, but overall the camera is great in every other respect
Great, in depth review. I'm glad at the end you said it does not have built in image stabilization. Now I know!

Just got a pink one to replace my GF7, super cute!
+Pepe Purr haha! Nice!
Pepe Purr is the gx850 much better than the gf7 and which one would you recommend??
Good review! Good insight and observations. I think that you covered the camera well.
Thank you for good review! Can u tell me how I can record video with manual aperture setting? I am using kit lens

@Brittney Lynn what did you go for in the end?
Great review. Thank you! I wouldn't mind more of this "other" content. :)
+Sith Lord Mills thanks, I know most of my viewers prefer the "regular" content, but I do enjoy breaking out of norm on the rare occasion.
You may have said it in the video, but what was your previous camera?

Hey! Thanks for the review! Could you recommend me the best way to stabilize images using this camera?

Finally I found a good review for this camera, thank you!
I just want to ask, how long can it record?
+Artemisia95 in 4K it can only record for 5 minutes
gx850=gf9 Indonesia , is there an overheat issue?
Can this be use for live streaming?

Hi i have a question,in 4k it says that i only can film 5 minutes can i film longer with a sandisk micro sd card 64 gb?
