    Panasonic should pay you for it because your video is way better than their manuals(where they teach you how to switch camera on etc) The best review of this camera so far and probably the most technical review I ever saw on UA-cam.Great Job Maarten!!!

    I'd like to add another comment: Maarten is unique among UA-cam reviewers in so many ways. He clearly creates a thorough script and cleverly coordinates it seamlessly with the review shots and videos. He makes it look easy but you can tell that it took a great deal of time, preparation and homework. I don't want to put other reviewers down, but there are far too many reviews that are badly prepared, lacking in depth, and which fail to stick to the info we are all looking for, in favour of rather egotistical and selfie-based ramblings. Maarten is clearly aware of them and has also clearly made a conscious decision NOT to be like this. In summary, his reviews are an object lesson in how to review not just cameras, but any hi-tech gear.
    What is surprising is that some of the more well known but rather threadbare reviews get hundreds of thousands of views. I wonder whether this is partly due to a decrease in attention spans. Maarten certainly proceeds at a fast rate and offers tersely presented detail in order to cram in as much info as possible and this is excellent. You can always pause the clips and backtrack at leisure, and that helps absorb the very comprehensive features he describes. This and other reviews of his deserve a lot more views. So, please spread the word and link to his reviews on other YT videos dealing with the same subject. Maarten has enabled us all to assess cameras to a level unprecedented elsewhere. He is by far the best presenter of reviews on this kind of product anywhere on youtube. Congratulations! Disclaimer. I live thousands of miles away and do not know Maarten personally, nor do I have any vested interest apart from searching for good reviews.

    amazing review as always. I purchased the camera a couple of days ago after much contemplation with the OMD-EM10 Mark III but the gx85 price and features were a huge deciding factor ( 200$ difference and better video capabilities) and I'm not regretting that decision at all. I love how your reviews always point out the most usable features and setting specially for a beginner user like my self ( i was watching the review with the camera in my hand to be honest). Keep up the good and amazing work that you do and i wish you the best.

    You are a very skilled reviewer, always a relaxed and calm, reassuring and knowledgeable presentation every time. And lovely voice too. The GX80/85 is a great camera-even in 2019, and still holding it's own against newly released cameras. And now an even better buy! I have the GX8 and still love it-a joy to use. The GX80/85 will just complement it. The slightly smaller body makes this an even better option for travel and grab and go camera. The humble 12-32mm lens proves that size doesn't matter, and makes the camera more fun to use!
    Your reviews are so comprehensive and easy to understand, they render manuals obsolete! Thank you very much for the time and hard work which goes into producing videos so professionally like this :) We all appreciate it very much :)

      I understand what you mean, the fact that it doesn't have any manual focus ring is kind of frustrating for me too. I'm using it with a 12-35mm II and I must say it's a great combo.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 років тому

      That is a better combo than the kit.

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 6 років тому

      I quite like the kit lens, because it makes the camera pocketable, albeit that it spoils the cut of one's suit. ;-). On balance I actually prefer it to the Olympus 14-42 pancake power zoom, for its slightly wider field of view at the short end and its sharpness to the edges.
      The 14-140, although relatively large looking on this camera, is a good match. Versatile with a 10X zoom and sharp. Also amazing when subject demands and allows longer shutter speeds hand held, courtesy of its dual image stabilisation compatibility.

      Maarten Heilbron Thank you!
      If I may ask one peculiar question. In your experience do you it would work or worth trying to use AF lens on a Panasonic GX86 which has a Micro Four Thirds (M4/3) sensor if I get a Fotga electric adapter (AF to Four Thirds M4/3)? Like for example to use the Minolta AF 28mm 1:2.8 Lens
      Kind Regards,
      Patrick

    I am looking to finally pull the trigger on a piece of equipment i can do some real shooting with, and this review sold me on my decision. I have been deliberating on an SLR camera for about 15 years if not closer to 20. Price was never in a good place where I could make sense out of a purchase that is for pure pleasure. With the range of lens fitting (which I doubt will ever be purchased) and the quality of the tech, it seems now is a great time for this purchase.
    I love shooting, but have been relegated to my phone for many years. Thanks for such a comprehensive overview of the product, and you gained a subscriber out of the deal too.
    Peace.

    Another very good and detailed review. If I were in the market for a Micro-Four-Thirds camera, this would be at the top of my list. The image stabilisation is certainly outstanding (although other reviews say that the Olympus version is even better).

    I bought this camera a month ago with the 12-32mm kit lens and so far I am really satisfied. It fits nicely in my coat pocket (even with a UV filter and lens cap attached). OOC JPEG quality is great with no bothering noise up to ISO 1600. I like to use Vivid mode with NR set to minimum. L. Monochrome also produces very nice B&W photos. I will probably buy a pancake prime lens like a 20mm 1.7 later for low-light shots. It has excellent quality with almost phone-size dimensions.

    Sir, I've become your constant watcher. As everyone said you are very informative and stylish reviewer. Very high quality content smoothly organized and presented.
    Now to the question.
    I am on budget but I want themost versatile camera that is capable of picturing photoshots with pleasant quality and ability to have a boceh etc. And also to film videos of different musical performances of me and my mates and use it as a travel cam also. Is it possible? My candidates are sony a6000, panasonic g7, gx85, canon sl2, nikon 5*00? What is more versatile?

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 років тому +2

      Thank you for taking the time to post such a nice comment, appreciated. There are lots of good cameras out there - but depending on what the budget is, the selection and the available features (particularly low light, focus speed and burst speed) may be limited. That said, the small differences at the high end don't really have a lot of impact on most enthusiast photographers. And within a given price range, the quality and basic feature set is fairly similar. Make your choice based on cost, fit (in your hand), and specific features you want, the look of the camera and the brand's appeal to you.

    Great reviews! This "hands on" series of reviews is awesome, best in youtube. Took me 2 days of watching reviews non-stop to find yours! I've just watched 3 of your reviews: Fuji TX20, Sony 6300 & Panasonic GX85. I have a question, these cameras all look great to me and for the price they look similar. Which one would you recommend as a good "all around" camera? For say, travel, street photo, wild life, music videos, documentary. Thanks a lot!

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  6 років тому

      I'd say that they can all serve all of those purposes - some may have more "quirks" than others in a specific mode, or for a specific use. For video, while I prefer the Sony (I own an A6300, and shoot with it regularly) it does have a tendency to overheat (although less since the firmware upgrade). The Fuji's recording times are limited. Choose the one you prefer based on aesthetics or brand preference.
