    The drawback to physical media is that they can become obsolete over time. Even on the computer, there are games that won't play without an emulator program running on your system. The good thing about the PC is that there's always some dude out there who will build an emulator to play the game. Movies are different because backward compatibility is usually a feature on most Blu-ray and 4K players. Have a nice day.

    Great video! I used to be the same way with collecting physical games. But I’m embracing digital media. It has its benefits. I no longer want shelves of physical games. At this point it’s pointless as the actual game code isn’t on the disc anymore. I think as consumers we need to push for change in what companies can and cannot do with digital media. If you paid for it; it should be yours to keep. When company X decides to shutdown the servers hosting the game you should be able to download the content and store it in some fashion to enjoy when you want.

      Great point in that even if I own a physical disk it’s likely won’t even be playable once the consoles life cycle ends (sometimes sooner). I certainly lean towards the streaming aspect more so than buying games digitally. Because if I ever leave that platform those purchased games are not coming with me. Almost as if the Games Console companies are phasing out their own product 🤔. Is it time to get in on the PC “Master” race?

      @@HeySpanky I think these companies want to phase out physical media because it eats into their profits. Especially when you consider printing disc, shipping a game, developing artwork for the box, distribution, etc. Digital games give them more control of their products. It also allows them to flick the switch when they want to sell you the same game again. Look at MvC2 for example. It has not been released since 2010. And there aren’t physical copies out side of the PS2, Xbox, and Dreamcast. Eventually it will get some remaster or shoved into a compilation for an easy cash grab. They don’t care about gaming history or folks who enjoy games from a particular generation. Because capitalism.

    Because I can't guarantee that a game stays on game pass I'll always buy physical

      Good point! I’ve certainly thought that way before as well. If a game like Halo comes out I’d more than likely buy a physical copy.

    Xbox has great sales on their digital games regularly. I got the Dead Space remake for only $8 as a Game Pass member discount.

      Personally never bought a full size digital game. Mostly only stick to streaming services

    I have over 200 ps plus games. I don't ever consider them my games.

      100%. I guess I’ve got to a point in life where that doesn’t matter as much to me.

    I wonder if the mass effect legendary edition was only a code inside the case if you had bought it?

    • @HeySpanky
      @HeySpanky  5 місяців тому +1

      I don’t think that was the case. Some one else commented that the game isn’t even on the disk and it’s just code to basically upload. So I think the actual disk was there

    Your right about having to have all these certain subscriptions if you want access to everything, me and my girlfriend between the 2 of us have subscriptions with wwe network..discovery plus...netflix.. amazon prime...disney plus.... youtube premium...Spotify....Nintendo switch online expansion pass.. and now xbox game pass
    Its a nightmare as like you say different company buy the rights to certain things so their exclusive to one thing then you get the likes of people who have actually paid for movies and tv shows to own then, only for them to get taken away because a license was revoked in the case of sony, the digital future is going to be far from perfect!! At least if you bought a blu ray movie you could possibly also have additional content like behind the scenes stuff, bloopers, the making of...or choice between standard movie edit or directors cut edition, you dont get any of that when you buy a digital movie, just the vanilla experience no thrills!

      Overall I feel better about subscriptions or streaming services such as Spotify or Gamepass. I really dislike purchasing or even renting digital music, movies, or games for the same reasons. For the same reasons you mentioned.
