    You can up the game and make instant rice. When you make rice, make extra. Dehydrate the leftovers at 150°F for 5-8 hours.

    These are all great! I have a suggestion. I believe the little snack bags will fit all the herbs and fit easily in the jar!

    “Fideo” noodles are another substitute for orzo or you can break up angel hair pasta into 1 inch pieces so it’ll be like Rice-a-roni.

    You can add some golden raisins, chopped dried apricots, or dried cranberries to the curry rice if you want. Then top off with some toasted or fried nuts like almonds, pinenuts, or pecans.

    Love these combos! I have made some in the past using foil packets of seasoning or snack bags for the seasonings. Also, toasting the rice not only adds flavor, bit keeps the rice kernals seperate once cooked, not gummy.

    Thinking as a gift for an adventurer. I would like to add 1/4-1/2 cup freeze dried chicken. How much extra water is needed and do I need to extend cooking time?

    Okay. I've asked other so-called preppers. Nobody ever responds to my post. Could you please explain how ,when to use the oxygen abjorbers if you vacuum Seal, you don't need them right? How do you know when they're still working? How do you store them etc?

    • @HomesteadCorner
      @HomesteadCorner  29 днів тому +8

      Hi!! I do not use oxygen absorbers when vacuum sealing, I use one or the other. Oxygen absorbers just remove the oxygen, not the rest of the air, so when they are in a mylar bags, it may suck in, and it may not. As long as it's sealed (jar or bag) it's good to go. When you vacuum seal, the same rule applies, as long as it's sealed its fine. I have only had jars come unsealed within the first 2 weeks, after that, I've never had an issue. I just reseal and they are fine. I have jars that are still sealed from a vacuum sealer since 2015. We store all our food in a pantry, cool, dark & dry. If using mylar bags, you want to store them in buckets or totes, so rodents don't have access to them.

      you can skip the bag, but you can burn the seasonings if you are toasting the rice.

    Looks delicious. I was wondering about if you did use the minute rice, would it be the same measurements, 1 and a half cups? Also, I know you have an onion soup mix that you make yourself with beef! I would like to know if I could use chicken instead of the beef! And would I use the same ingredients and measurements of the other spices? I really wish I knew more about oxygen absorbers. Thanks for all you do

    A legitimate question. Whenever you cook your rice you don't wash it to remove the arsenic first?
    Thank you for the idea to store seasonings separately.
