Rice a Roni 4 - 6 svgs In each qt. jar, place: 2 c. rice, 1 c. orzo (or broken spaghetti) Pick from the 3 flavors below to add to a baggie & put inside the jar: Rice Pilaf Flavor In a baggie: 2 heaping Tbsp. chkn bouillon, 1 tsp. garlic pwdr, 2 tsp. parsley, 1 tsp. poultry ssg. Curry Flavor Baggie: 2 heaping Tbsp. chkn bouillon, 1 tsp. garlic pwdr, 1 Tbsp. curry pwdr Southwest Flavor Baggie: 2 heaping Tbsp. chkn bouillon, 1 tsp. each garlic pwdr, cumin, chili pwdr, & oregano. Melt 2 Tbsp. butter in pot over med. heat & add rice mixture. Once you start seeing brown bits in your pan, add 5 c. water & turn up to high. Add the baggie of seasoning & heat until boiling. Simmer until water is absorbed & rice mixture is tender.
A suggestion...put your spices into a cone shaped coffee filter and fold top down to fit it in jar. It is better than having your food in contact with plastic, especially for any length of time.
Years ago in my bachelor days, I had an unhealthy addiction to Zatoran's Jambalaya rice mix. This process gave me bad ideas. I blame you if I relapse. 😁 Thanks for the ideas!
Thanks for sharing this simple "home made" recipe. I used to eat Rice-A-Roni but, like a lot of boxed, processed foods, it doesn't taste the same (maybe it's just me). Plus, the price keeps going up. Much cheaper (and tastier) to make it from scratch. Now I can!
I think they cut back on the amt of seasoning. We all noticed it’s blander than it used to be. For the chicken one I’ve been adding a little bit of chicken bouillon type flavoring and salt.
If you have a Trader Joe’s near you most if their pasta is 99 cents per lb (including orzo). It tastes just as good as the name brand and my family prefers it over many store brand. Great video!
I make beef seasoning baggies as well as the chicken, because I like to add a can of chicken or beef to make it a complete meal. I also add veggie powder I make from dehydrated vegetables or green powder from a mix of leafy greens. some mushrooms or umami mushroom powder is great, too. Instead of broken spaghetti, I use vermicelli, which cooks up a little faster.
I was AMAZED at how quickly you were able to make up 3 jars! Today was my Friday at work, so I was planning to make some shelf stable meals in a jar and your timing couldn’t be more perfect! Thank you so much!❤🇺🇸
If you plan out the Kars your making, you could easily do 30+ meals in and hour. I set up a big assembly line when I'm just working and get tons done in a day and then simple meals for months!
I had lung cancer caught early and surgery was good. Canning helps me relax. Don't give up. I can one jar at a time Same as one step at a time good luck canning
I really love this meals in a jar that you are doing. I try to watch all of them, save the video and right down the recipe for my prepper pantry recipe book I have been building for my daughters and son. Great thing to keep adding to and when the notebook is full, Christmas prezzies too!
Thank you so much I love your videos and lessons on how to preserve food for long periods in the pantry. I work a lot and am getting older where it’s difficult for to spend long hours in the kitchen. When I can grab something simple and prepare it off the shelf with my own seasonings is perfect. I’ve been bragging about you to a co worker who meal preps a lot and eats a lot of soups because it’s easy and more affordable but also filling ❤❤❤thank you
I'm not sure how much they hold, but Dollar Tree has some small plastic containers with lids that fit inside the canning jar. Perfect for spices. At my store they're hanging on the shelf near the Rubbermaid Take Alongs. They also have square ones.
Fantastic! I’m done with buying boxes of Rice-mixes/ I kept reasoning that it was worth the expense due to the convenience🥹- but no more! I’ll be making up a dozen of these, vac. seal them & into the pantry they go.😊 Thank you so much💐.
Thanks so much for this!! I'm going to do these for Christmas gifts!! Add a red ribbon and a name tag with directions on the other side and it's perfect!! Putting some in my own pantry too!! Thanks again!! 🦅🇺🇸💕
Thank you so much for your videos I have learned so much from you. I took my matches and used old salsa jars and sand paper and glued to the inside of the top and it worked great ❤❤❤
This looks Yumz, & a great idea. I'm gonna mess with the Spices, maybe Zatar or a Baharat one in smaller sizes. 👍 TFS HC, take care & keep really busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶
You can also prepare/cook these meals and then freeze dry them. Then when you want to use them, they are already cooked and only need to be reconstituted and warmed which can be done in a few minutes.
I have to say thank you as this recipe for three good dishes came through for me right on time. Like the stainless steel funnel. I crushed chicken bullion cubes since I didn't have the powdered form, hoping the measurement would be equal/close.
I was skeptical of this rice-a-roniso I made the curry recipe and oh boy is that ever good. Yum. I added dehydrated green onions and just delicious. Can’t wait to try other two. A keeper.
I’d love to have a cheesy broccoli soup meal-in-a-jar recipe. Haven’t made it through your playlist yet, so don’t know if you already have one. Hope so!
Finally some one has done the seasonings separately like I do. Was beginning to think I was nutso. But now we have gone a step further and cooked the rice and noodles then dehydrate it and just add seasonings in the jar that way. We mostly vacuum seal baggies now to save my jars and make single grab and go.
I loved rice a roni as a kid but have not had this for years as msg gives me headaches. I am so excited to make my own and I have an over abundance of spaghetti.
Thank you so much for sharing these recipes. Many of our friends are in small groups & the pint jars are perfect for their family. Blessings from NW Florida!

As long as you make it from scratch, I'll gladly take the blame. 😉
You can use snack ziploc bags for the spices. Its smaller and easier to fit in the jar. I am definitely going to do some of these for my pantry.
I think the reason for the bigger bag is so nothing touches the rim and is a secure seal.
Thanks for sharing your easy recipes. I appreciate easy, new and tasty dishes. You really should make a cookbook. I’d seriously buy it!
I agree with you 100% of the vacuum sealer. Leftovers in the fridge will last at least twice as long when vacuum sealed!
THANK YOU THANK YOU. I really appreciate this.
Snack size plastic bags would be perfect for this project

You can use the broken vermicelli which is actually what the original uses.

I love how simple this is.
Great recipe! I bought the jar sealer. It will be much easier than the break bleeder I've been using for several years.
This is so much cheaper than buying rice mixes at the store!

Jenny, what a great idea. I'm never buying rice a Roni again.
These are so versatile, you can change up the seasoning to anything really... 💕🇺🇸
This is awesome 👌
So easy to make a meal!
I use condiment cups with lids on them for my spices in my jars and bags
