There is Karen Carpenter then there is the rest ❤
Perfectly put.....
Exactly. Beautifully said.
Facts!
YES
Truth 🙌
Unlike all of the rest of us she saw herself as a drummer who could sing a little. She died too young. She was a great talent from my youth. Love her voice.
Remember, she's singing live and Autotune didn't exist back then. Karen Carpenter was perhaps the most naturally talented vocalist and a once in a century talent.
This is a video performance of the studio version 🎸
@@robertnathan2843 yes this is the studio recording but her live performances singing this song are pretty amazing
@@mpa417 Absolutely. I was stating for informational purposes. Thanks🎸
Karen was a supremely talented natural singer. Perfect pitch and natural talent. She humbly thought of herself as a drummer that could also sing. We miss her terribly.
And she really was an excellent drummer.
Karen is considered one of the best female vocalists ever. She was known as "one take Karen," as she recorded the songs in just 1 recording take, 99% of the time. She is also known as being able to sign in the lowest tones, which most female singers cannot get down to. She was incredible. We lost her too soon. By the way, this is a live performance. The small orchestra is behind the curtain.
There is no choir. It's just Karen and Richard. He was a master of what's called overdubbing. This entire thing is just their two voices. Magnificent!
(They Long to be) Close to You, We've Only Just Begun, Rainy Days and Mondays, Top of the World, Goodbye to Love, I Need to Be in Love, Yesterday Once More, Hurting Each Other, Merry Christmas Darling, the Carpenter's catalog runs deep.
Karen Carpenter was simply one of the greatest voices ever in pop music. One of her contemporaries, Olivia Newton John, said she NEVER heard Karen Carpenter hit a wrong note. Another, Dusty Springfield, said that what made her different was her lower register. "All of us can hit the high notes," she said, "but the money is in the basement."
Dusty Springfield is pretty awesome in her own right. Never knew she said that! Also like Laura Nyro from that time. But I think the singer among the most analogous to Karen Carpenter is probably Anne Murray. But Karen, of course, is in a class by herself.
Never get tired of listening to this...
you really need to do more Carpenters... especially Rainy Days & Mondays
Karen was incandescently talented. I still get chills listening to her after all these years. But her brother Richard at the keyboard also deserves tremendous praise for his arrangements. They were the perfect team.
Her voice, and their songs were the soundtrack to my youth..... I weep each time i hear her....thank you.
She has a rare voice , one of a kind you’ll never forget 😊❤
Greatest female vocalist of all time!
Perfect pitch and three octave range plus a beautiful personality and a wonderful person. RIP, karen.
So, that wasn't a choir, as Karen and Richard (her brother/keyboard player/composer/arranger/amazing musician) both laid in the background vocals, including multiple harmonies. She played the drums and Richard played multiple instruments, and wrote the incredible music arrangements for their songs. Karen's voice is very unique and memorable. Love them! 💞
Karen Carpente Superstar in one take while reading the lyrics off of a napkin. She was known as one take Katen. All the backing vocals were done by multitracking Richard, her brother and arranger, and Karen. Unfortunately, we lost Karen in 1983 to cardiac arrest caused by complications of anorexia nervosa. She was 32. Please react to the song This Masquerade by the Carpenters.
She recorded Superstar in one take.
A Song For You is another great one
This Masquerade is an excellent choice. There's also a video on UA-cam showing her drumming skills, which I never appreciated before.
@@hurricane1951ee the version of This Masquerade she did for a TV special with Ella Fitzgerald.
And before auto tune. Just her. Karen had a beautiful voice.
For the next Carpenters song, you should listen to We’ve Only Just Begun.
Still my all time fav singer. Genuine, haunting, emotional.
The queen she’s barely 21 yrs old here
I've always been fond of the Carpenters first hit release, their 1970 arrangement of Burt Bacharach's song: "(They Long to Be) Close to You" The last song Karen recorded before her death in 1983 also tugs at the heart: "Now" You can find both on UA-cam. Neither may be the best examples of their art, they are just my two favorites
She is one of my favourite artists for over 50 years now. Glad you found her too
Karen's voice is one of the great wonders of the universe, I hope you can do more Carpenters reactions. Thank you for a great reaction!
Agreeeeee!!!! Yes, she is!!!
The Carpenters were one of the first bands to overdub their voices for the background. I saw them twice they were magical.
Karen was truly one of the best ever. And her brother Richard deserves a lot of credit for their arrangements…such a talented pair.
I have always loved her perfect pitch…breath control and that incredible contralto voice of her. And she was a great drummer too!
I LOVE Karen. Always!🥰
Karen had the voice of an ANGEL!!❤
Did you know that Paul McCartney said that very thing about her? One of the greatest male vocalists. Of course, I agree. She was beyond awesome.
She had great breath control....there is one video where it is around 17 seconds long...she was a contralto and possessed a 4 octave range
3 octaves
She is so natural.....
Unparalleled.
The Carpenters have a lot of hits. I like her cover of "There's A Kind Of Hush".
I'm nearly 65 years old, slightly younger than Karen would be if she were still with us. Here voice can still bring tears to my eyes. She was gone way too soon.
65 here...yes we lost our Angel Karen way to soon..❤❤
Also for different songs to assess her unique talents try, this Masquerade, A song for you, The Rainbow connection, Those good old dreams, enjoy
my heart belongs to her! she was so sweet!
My favorite is "Solitaire"
She had such a beautiful voice. This is my favorite Carpenters song.
What's so interesting is the mention of Karen Carpenter's 'confidence'? I think Karen Carpenter was perhaps one of the greatest natural-born singers of all time, but I think it was her 'confidence' that she struggled with the most in her life.
“Rainy days and Mondays” is another good one.. although any song is absolutely lovely. Karen had a gift for the ages and remains timeless now…. ❤
Lots more from Carpenters that you will love too. Absolutely timeless music that transcends generations and millennia!!
Absolutely incredible soul and feel❤ it's been said she never hit a sour note live and I believe it
Rainy Days and Mondays; It’s a Kind of Hush; Close to You; we’ve only Just Begun and Solitaire
I get chills and goosebumps when I hear this song.
My favorite Carpenters song is Yesterday Once More. The jazzy harmonies in it are exquisite!
Karen was nicknamed one take Karen, because over 80% of her recordings were issued using the first recording of every single song, a great gift, one of my favourite singers together with a certain Barbra Streisand.
butter...Karen's voice has to be one of the smoothest sounding voices to have ever sung popular music...effortless range changes and so so smooth...like butter. No machine assisted studio equipment is capable of duplicating a natural singer like her.
One of the neatest voices- her brother (the other 'Carpenter) was a perfectionist, and produced this great music. (oh, and she played drums at a professional level)
Her first words of this song bring tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful voice.
Karen Carpenter sang her own backups and added those tracks to the music. And major music magazine called her the best drummer in America.
To repeat another fans remarks: " During their career, the duo scored 1 number one album and another 4 Top 10 albums on Billboard 200, 3 number one singles, 12 top 10 singles and 20 top 40 hits on Billboard Hot 100. Karen's singing and her brother Richard's arrangements sold out concerts in the UK and Japan as well.
Pull up her drum solos and notice how happy she is
Three level contralto so effortless. Such a talent taken at such a young age! She ALWAYS BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES! 50 YEARS LATER.
Her voice is so haunting that you could recognise it on the other side of the world in the first verse, she really was a one off performer
THE BEST FEMALE VOCALIST...EVER IN MUSIC HISTORY. RIP. KAREN CARPENTER. 🙏🙏🙏❤️🔥♥️
I never cease to be amazed and disappointed by the number and stature of the so called musical elites of today who are totally ignorant of the outstanding and exceptionally talented singers of the 70's and 80's. A time when the quantity and quality of music created in nearly all forms far surpasses the trivial amount and quality of that created today.
The musicians behind her are the amazing Wrecking Crew. You could do the most amazing reaction videos to the list of songs that they helped create! Enjoy!
I fell in love with her voice when I was 5 years old!! ❤😊
Like I always say her voice melts my heart ❤️ ❤
some singers could cheat a bit, but she didnt she was pure had a laser voice, so accurate and like manuka Honey
My mother liked her so I started listening to her in my preteen and early teen years and I still love her music.
Her voice is a Symphony, so smooth.
A true Alto. She was one of a kind. Thanks!
I saw a documentary about this group back when I was a young boy in the late 1970s. She and her brother sang the backing vocals in the studio on the original recordings of all their songs. They would layer their voices over and over again to make the vocals sound like a choir of many voices. They were an awesome group with hit after mellow hit. They were huge part of the free and easy sound of that era in music.
R.i.p. Karen every time i listen to her i get teary eyed, so tragic
Yesterday Once More, Rainy Days and Mondays, Song for You... all beautiful Karen songs.
Karen Carpenter is a GOD! You are very pretty and enjoyable, too!!!!
We've only just begun is a great song of theirs.
Paul and Elton's favorite all time female vocalist, Mine too...
Welcome to "mrs. one take". So she was named from her soundengineers, cause she sings almost perfect.
Check out her drum solo from 1976 👌
Such a powerful voice coming from a petite woman, she was a legend!
Karen Carpenter had a voice like honey. It is perfect and gifted from Our Lord.
Besides Karen Carpenter there is the phenomenal Linda Ronstadt who has major groundbreaking albums in several genres. Her incredibly rich tone endured four decades of inspiring live performances and immortalized recordings.
amazing arrangement by Richard
One of the greatest voices in modern music, yet a reluctant singer, with her first love being drumming. Watch a video of her drumming and you will see her absolutely sparkle. R.I.P. Karen, gone far too soon.
At the hight of the Carpenters they were more popular than the Beatles. She is considered one of the best vocalists of her time. Check out Rainy Days and Mondays or We've Only Just Begun
My favorite Carpenters song!
I was lucky enough to see them in concert such a long long time ago...sigh.
I grew up with this music. You are just discovering it. I must be older than I think!
Thank you for reacting to the Carpenters. You need to research this group. Karen had one of the purest alto voices on the planet, Please react to more of their songs.'
Her love was as a drummer.
The Voice.
Muy acertada la opinión de la cantante, y tus eres muy hermosa ❤ te admiro mucho
Lol.. that 1st wide eyed look when Karen starts
Here's a recommendation from them, it's called "You've only just begun". That song is amazing by her too!
And by the way…, she was a fantastic drummer too! She played the drums on the studio recordings!
If there was only ONE voice one could fall in love with, it is Karen's.
she had one of the greatest voices ever. rainey days and monday's, and we only just begun..to name a few other songs
Hello
✨👋
Please check out Roy Orbison singing "River" from "The Fastest Guitar Alive", he's basically the male version of Karen Carpenter. Those two are special.
Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline, Keith Whitley, Dolly Parton, Allison Kraus, Emmylou Harris.
Probably the number one
Miss Karen Carpenter always voice make me cry. Her beauty & tatent.
Greatest female vocalist of all time. Miss her
If you really want to be in awe, listen to Karen do Ave Maria. Shows she wasn't just a beautiful voice with hooks, but a true talent.
Ava Maria is one of her best songs ever, stunningly beautiful.
The backup singers are actually Karen and Richard. They would sing over and over and then Richard would layer them forming that choir like voice
Gorgeous!! You should analyze "Close to You" as well......
Surely the best voice ever. JMHO
😢😮😊😊 Brings all emotions. Gone to soon.
World Class!
A voz angelical da música americana.
Try This Masquerade and Leave Yesterday Behind for her lower voice.
Beloved karen!Im Charles Melo from Goiania,Goias,Brazil
