I have said as much and more about Karen's otherwordly voice. Her vocal abilities are spiritual, tantric, transcendent. Simply one of the finest voices in modern music history and the finest female contralto tomorrow.
You've just heard the most hauntingly beautiful voice you'll ever hear. Karen's life story is a tragic one, and she was gone way too soon. Loved your reaction, young lady. This is a beautiful song. Might I suggest "Rainey Days and Mondays" to react to. RIP Karen 💚
The Carpenters are one of my all time fave musical recording acts. Karen Carpenter 1950-83. 😔 🙏 🎤 🎹 She also played drums 🥁 One of the most iconic voices ever!!
Right On! He also played The Piano on Shindig when Aretha Franklin appeared on the show in the early 1960's. She sang It Won't Be Too Long. Elton John also thought the world of him and he was in The Audience when Elton played The Los Angeles Piano Bar The Troubador which was his very first American Performance.
The Carpenters are brother and sister. They were known for: 1. Richards choice of music. He specifically picked songs to match Karen’s voice. He is a superb arranger, composer, and lyricist. 2. Karen and Richards over dubbing and harmonies. 3. Karen’s pitch perfect, natural, and effortless angelic voice. Her voice is timeless and a one in a billion. 4. Karen was also an awesome drummer. She drummed many songs while she sang in perfect pitch. An exceptional skill. Their music is so well composed. Richard loved to use strings, horns, tamborines, along with his tremendous piano skills.
That's because then music was about talented ppl. Not talentless over hyped plants put in place to push an agenda and who only 14 year old girls regard as good
Great reaction! Karen had arguably the best female voice to have ever blessed the world with her sound. Karen, tragically, left us too soon, RIP. It's been said that the angels rejoiced when Karen arrived - they had their new lead singer!
Richard was not only her brother and saying back up He was the composer and a ranger of all the songs Karen sang And yes most beautiful gorgeous angelic voice and considered one of the finest jazz drummers ... Ever!
Karen was amazing. Pitch perfect & clear (w/o auto tune.) Beautiful, rich tone. 3-octave range. Incredible breath control. Impeccable diction. Seamless transition between her upper & lower registers. And she makes you FEEL every word!! And Richard knew how to make the arrangements - instrumentation, timing, etc. - that fit them perfectly. Add their tight harmonies and… pure PERFECTION!
One of the great female voices in my lifetime, She was a once in a generation vocalist for easy listening type 70s music. For another great song of their's , try We've Only Just Begun, one of the most requested wedding songs ever. The Carpenters had brother Richard on multiple instruments and did their arrangements. I love to Rock but I love their stuff as well when in the mood. Enjoy! 🎵🎤🎹🎶
Hi Olavity. Yes they were brilliant brother and sister act Karen and Richard Carpenter she passed away years ago from an eating disorder but they have a great catalogue of music you will love all of them if your reaction to this song is anything to go by.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💙💙💙💙💙💙💋💋💋💋💋💋
Karen Carpenter (Best Female Drummer and Voice) was a beautiful, gorgeous, one in a creation talent and her brother Richard is a genius arranger and fabulous piano player. Carpenters tore up the music charts in the 70's with hit after hit. They were #1 selling american group in the 70's. A request would be Rainy days and mondays.
The Carpenters are a family group consisting of Brother Richard Carpenter playing keyboard, and going the musical arrangements sister Karen Carpenter as main vocalist, and ocational drummer. Karen died in her 30s from complications to eating disorder anorexia. R.I.P. Karen Carpenter ✌️❤️🙏🙏
No it's not all about her brother. It's about both of them. Two incredible talents. It doesn't matter how well he arranged it they could never have achieved this with any other singer. It's that simple. They were both 10/10 at what they did and Richard just knew his sister better than anybody and knew how to get the best out of her. But no way would Richard have been what he was without his sister. And vice versa. You just can't simplify it down like that.
The Carpenters had so many great songs! You might want to listen to the songs Close to You, Rainy Days and Mondays, and Hurting Each Other, among so many others. Thank you for your lovely reaction....🎉❤❤
Just wanted to say; I love your reactions because, I don't know, you're just so sweet and kind to the artists which is a rare thing on UA-cam so Bravo! Now I need to watch all of your reactions! Thank you for doing them for us.
Listening to the Carpenters brings me back in my childhood years in the 70s. That was one of my favourite song from Karen but also the song I Need To Be In Love (the studio version) from the album A Kind Of Hush. Just pure soothing beautiful voice that’s nothing like it.
Hi Ola, Karen was just a pure, natural talent. Sadly, she passed away from an eating disorder when she was only 32. The Carpenters have many more hits.
She actually died of heart failure and had put on weight in the last 1-2 years of her life. I also had a heart attack and cardiac arrest in my 30s and I was a cross country runner at the time. Heart failure can happen at any age. Of course she also had anorexia but it was not the official cause of her death. It probably had more to do with her long term use of laxatives and other drugs, that even her doctors were unable to control.
Her brother is the piano player. her name is Karen Carpenter. It is their band. She passed away so young at age 32 years old of a eating disorder. She was placed at one of the top vocals of all time.
You have opened the Carpenters rabbit hole. It’s a wonderful journey with a layer of sadness. Karen died of a heart attack in 1983 at 32. It was related to her Anorexia Nervosa. They were the #1 American act of the 1970’s. Their legacy, thanks to reactors like you #KeepingTheMusicAlive Thank You. Karen and Richard did almost all the backing vocals, only them. There were exceptions but few before Karen died and more after. Here’s a few classic songs, pick the video with the most millions of views and you really can’t go wrong. Just know there are no bad Carpenters songs. Rainy Days and Mondays Close To You We’ve Only Just Begun A Song For You Ticket To Ride Goodbye To Love All the above are covers they did, except Goodbye which Richard wrote with John Bettis his writing partner. You started with a banger. They’re all great. Enjoy the ride. Joe
They were one of the most successful brother sister acts of all time. Superstar was also covered by Luther Vandross (RIP). Sadly for all of their professional success, they had some personal issues. Their mother was jealous of Karen's success while Richard was such a perfectionist he would take pills to stay awake and sleeping pills as well. She sadly became the first celebrity to bring the issue of anorexia to the masses. She was close friends wtih olivia newton john and when she appeared on her tv special she didn't look well at all. She had to go to rehab and get well, but the laxatives and diet pills did a number on her body. she would die in february 1983.
Love the heartfelt reaction! Karen's vocals are so smooth and it's hard to find anyone like her nowadays. I reacted to this song myself, but it ended up getting blocked by UMG, that's common with our kind of channels though lol. Keep up the fun reactions!
Karen’s brother was on the piano she was actually a great drummer on her songs. R.I.P. To the beautiful Karen. Keep up the great job and keep showing that beautiful smile. 👍❤
There is actually a genetic phenomenon that occurs with siblings who share DNA. The folds in their vocal chords form very similarly due to shared genes. So do the nasal and oral cavities where sound resonates. They also share enunciation and speech patterns learned from the same parents. It's the same reason that often someone can't initially tell one sibling apart from another over the telephone when the caller can't see which one actually answered. As siblings grow up together, especially musically talented siblings, they also have the advantage of singing together for longer periods of time. These many reasons are why brother and sister bands like the BeeGees, Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, Corrs, Carpenters, etc harmonize so flawlessly together.
Great reaction to a great voice and a great duo. They have several really big hits from the 70s that ill bet you will really enjoy Ola. Close To You, We've Only Just Begun, On Top of The World, Rainy Days and Mondays, and Please Mr. Postman are just a few of them. Have a wonderful day and thank you for brightening mine...❤ from fla usa
Yes, Karen, when she sang, she felt and projected what was in the lyrics. She had perfect pitch and timing in her voice, and she is studied by Voice Coaches for her signing technique. Karen did have the voice of an angel.
The Carpenters and Luther Vandross are the most well known versions. It has been covered by numerous artists, and of course, the "styles" of them vary, so you can get one you'll like. The original was by Delany and Bonnie and Friends, written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell. The idea for the song was from Rita Coolidge (she was a backup singer for D&B and Friends at that time) who when watching groupies of famous performers thought there was subject matter in the interactions she had seen that would work for a song.
Neat! I bookmarked your movie reviews channel and didn't know you were doing music! Richard and Karen did all the vocals. Richard arranged all of the songs and wrote many of them.
They were also heavily influenced by Motown. In the early days of their career they entered a Talent Contest and sang Dancing In The Street by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas and won. They also covered The Marvellettes Please Mr. Postman in 1975 that went to Number One, as well as Beechwood 45789. In 1983 on Motown 25 TV Host Dick Clark of American Bandstand acknowledged them as one of many White Artists who covered Motown Songs.
At one time, Karen was ranked #5 greatest drummers in the world. When they started, she considered herself as a drummer who just happened to be able to sing a little. As they became more popular, she was moved away from her instrument of choice for commercial reasons. The industry didn't like her behind the drumset. She was such a talent. I'm the official video of rainy days and Mondays, after the couple of pics, they go live to the studio, and she's playing the drums. Great reaction.😊
You have a genuine taste for singing talent. Im in my late 60s and remember Carpenters well. Herb Alpert heard Karen's voice on a demo in 1969 and signed her brother, Richard, and her to A&M records. Karen received 3 or 4 Grammys in the 70s and sold over 80 million records by 1982. She was 1975 rock drummer of the year according to Playboy. KC had the most beautiful voice-ever, and perhaps THE best female vocalist-ever, because she compels you to listen as she sings in perfect pitch to you, not at you, with emotion and enunciation. No auto-tune or gimmicks. No professional voice or drum instruction. She was known by the studios as 'one take'. She rarely, if ever, did more than one take of any song. She was also the ONLY female harmony/background voice in all her songs. She was truly born with an incredible singing talent. Documentaries point out the accolades to her voice, such as, Paul McCartney said she had the most angelic voice after hearing her sing 'Ticket To Ride'. John Lennon ran into her at an LA restaurant and told her "you have a fabulous voice, luv". Supposedly Frank Sinatra stated that Karen was the only singer he'd pay to hear. I recommend songs such as, Yesterday Once More, Solitaire, This Masquerade, Need To Be In Love, Hurting Each Other, Only Yesterday, I Can Dream Cant I, Crescent Noon, Ordinary Fool, Close To You, We've Only Just Begun, Rainy Days and Mondays, A Place To Hideaway, and A Song For You. KC never knew true love. One of her few friends included Dionne Warwick. 5'3" KC really lost weight, due to anorexia, in earnest beginning in 1975. She died in Feb 1983 at age 32 due to heart complications from anorexia.
According to 'Playboy', come on, that's just a bit ridiculous isn't it? Obviously a supernatural singer. But you can't put her ahead of Bonham on drums, that's just ludicrous. I'll remind you that Playboy was a wank mag for men who thought themselves a cut above the average wanker and was most definitely not the definitive word of music or art.
There is a cover of this song made by the band Sonic Youth for the album "If I Were A Carpenter". It is a tribute album to The Carpenters released in 1994. It's a great version. I love your videos. Mainly Pink Floyd. Congratulations from Brazil!
lovely reaction, the carpenters had lots of great songs for you to try, id recommend RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS, or WE,VE ONLY JUST BEGUN, im sure that you will enjoy them
Karen Carpenter....no relation to John Carpenter, but like John the scary thing is how beautiful and flawless her voice is. Karen and Richard are brother and sister.
Thanks, my girl.. it has a subtitle, which is "Groupie".. when you think of it that way, you understand the story.. (not an original by Carpenters.. but they had the best version, IMHO)... I hope you hear more of Karen ... they were amazing... appreciate your listen! (p.s. the best backing vocals were from her brother, Richard... who also wrote some of their songs.. and did fantastic arrangements)
Karen had the voice of a angel, the personality of a sweet kind and lovely lady and will never be forgotten, Rest in Peace Karen.
I have said as much and more about Karen's otherwordly voice. Her vocal abilities are spiritual, tantric, transcendent. Simply one of the finest voices in modern music history and the finest female contralto tomorrow.
Ever, not tomorrow
Richard is truly great and often passed by, but Karen is one of (if not THE) best voices EVER
...the best!!!
She is the best singer ever!
The voice and face of an angel. May she rest in peace.
Best female voice ever! No screaming or belting it out...just singing! The voice of an angel!
Karen’s voice is like a warm blanket. She was also an amazing drummer. Her voice is like no other..they broke the mold when they created her.
retired her #!!
You have just heard the greatest singer ever.
Karen is one of the greatest female singers of all time. Her tragic death was a shock to the world.
You've just heard the most hauntingly beautiful voice you'll ever hear. Karen's life story is a tragic one, and she was gone way too soon. Loved your reaction, young lady. This is a beautiful song. Might I suggest "Rainey Days and Mondays" to react to. RIP Karen 💚
Karen sings so effortlessly and Richard sang harmonies as well as doing all the music arrangements
AND THE ANGEL SANG
The Carpenters are one of my all time fave musical recording acts. Karen Carpenter 1950-83. 😔 🙏 🎤 🎹 She also played drums 🥁 One of the most iconic voices ever!!
Your new favorite band, they had a lot of big hits in the 70s. She had one of the best perfect pitch voices , she was also an accomplished Drummer.
The legendary karen Carpenter, such a tragic death. Song co written by another legend Leon Russell.
A voice as smooth as silk
the voice of a angel
she died WAYYYYv to young

I mean, listen to it. That voice is as rich as...... I dont know, its just bleddy amazing. Sooooo much feel, so much depth.
Back then, they never used autotune, it was pure magic, through her voice!
That's because then music was about talented ppl. Not talentless over hyped plants put in place to push an agenda and who only 14 year old girls regard as good
"Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters is a must to react to.
Close to You...and We've Only Just Begun...they have so many hits! This style of music was called Soft Rock in the 1970s!!
No it was called easy listening. Soft rock was crap like the eagles and toto.
It was Karen Carpenter's death at age 32 in 1983 that brought to national attention the condition of Anorexia Nervosa. Thanks for your reaction.
THE BEST!
Great reaction!
Karen had arguably the best female voice to have ever blessed the world with her sound. Karen, tragically, left us too soon, RIP.
It's been said that the angels rejoiced when Karen arrived - they had their new lead singer!
There is no arguing...Karen has the best female voice ever...ever!
Richard was not only her brother and saying back up He was the composer and a ranger of all the songs Karen sang And yes most beautiful gorgeous angelic voice and considered one of the finest jazz drummers ... Ever!
Karen had perfect pitch control. Along with breath control which is also important on stage.
It's a sad story about Karen, but many say wow to her voice
Karen was amazing.
Pitch perfect & clear (w/o auto tune.)
Beautiful, rich tone.
My thumbs up dear Olavity for your friendly reactions. Karen has a divine voice. The 1970s were a good time musically.
Keep it up😊👋👍

I'd go as far as saying THE greatest female singer in my lifetime.

Timeless. This song will be playing 50 years from now.
We Only Just Begun, Rainy Days & Mondays, some of their other songs just as captivating. Best female vocal ever!!! From Malaysia
She actually died of heart failure. That was the official verdict. Obviously she'd put so much strain on it over the years it just gave out.
This is 100% her brother! She's a very special talent, but this is all about arrangement!
No it's not all about her brother. It's about both of them. Two incredible talents. It doesn't matter how well he arranged it they could never have achieved this with any other singer. It's that simple. They were both 10/10 at what they did and Richard just knew his sister better than anybody and knew how to get the best out of her. Hi Ola yes such a beautiful voice sad that she died at the age 32😢
Have a great day Ola❤😊.
U will love all their songs!! So beautifully arranged and her voice sweet as an angel everytime!!! Check out many more Carpenters 🎶 🎵
My favorite Carpenters song.
Goodbye to Love. Definitely check that one out.
Legend!! What a voice! She was like 19 or 20 when she recorded this song on one Take!!!
That smile around 1:40 was the reaction I was expecting. Karen was the best.
Haha, buckle up, buttercup!😂
The brilliant and tasteful arrangement is equal to Karne's vocals in making this track so so special. Bravo, Richard.
She was the best female singer to live
The Carpenters had so many great songs! You might want to listen to the songs Close to You, Rainy Days and Mondays, and Hurting Each Other, among so many others. Thank you for your lovely reaction....🎉❤❤

Karen could sing a menu and make it sound good, given a song like this one she takes us to another world.
And the singer isn't a singer, she's a drummer!
No she is a drummer who could sing...get it right!
@@dennislalka7965 A real musician who could play drums and sing at the same time.
She was a drummer yes, but it's her voice that the world will remember forever.
Listening to the Carpenters brings me back in my childhood years in the 70s. That was one of my favourite song from Karen but also the song I Need To Be In Love (the studio version) from the album A Kind Of Hush. Just pure soothing beautiful voice that’s nothing like it.

@@Darrenski the heart failure was related to the effects the anorexia had on her body. It was a contributing factor.
@@DanielFrost21 Indeed it was.
That was a great reaction!!! So happy you've started down this deep rabbit hole!! Can't wait to hear more!!!!

The Carpenters wre the Goat.

when I'm stressed and tired I listen to carpenters song it makes me relax my body and mind
Hi Ms. O., Ms. Karen has one the best voices ever; pure and smooth as budder.. ♠Mr.G..
Written by Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett.
Originally hatched by Rita though. For some reason or another she was left out of the credit. Same for the Layla piano coda.

You're hearing the oboe, often a trademark sound of the Carpenters.
Yes, Karen, when she sang, she felt and projected what was in the lyrics. She had perfect pitch and timing in her voice, and she is studied by Voice Coaches for her signing technique. Karen did have the voice of an angel.
One of the greatest voices of her time, so very tragic. Passing from Anorexia Nervosa, we lost an angelic voice far too early.

It is a tribute album to The Carpenters released in 1994.
It's a great version.
I love your videos. Mainly Pink Floyd.
Congratulations from Brazil!
lovely reaction, the carpenters had lots of great songs for you to try,
id recommend RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS, or WE,VE ONLY JUST BEGUN,
im sure that you will enjoy them
Karen was a great drummer too. Thanks for reacting to Carpenters
Karen Carpenter....no relation to John Carpenter, but like John the scary thing is how beautiful and flawless her voice is. Karen and Richard are brother and sister.
Definitely need to check out "Hurting Each Other," "For All We Know," and, probably their biggest hit, "We've Only Just Begun"!
My all-time favorite song by The Carpenters. Karen left us way too soon.😢
