    ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

    Have a great day!!

      S d :
Loved Karen.’s angelic voice. Bittersweet sad that her real life experience was so tragic.
Now I’m going to treat all you Karen fans around the world to a vocalist who passed away recently but in my and Karen’s generation ( 1960s/70s I’m 74 years old) had a worldwide cult following and I consider her ( along with Karen) the most recognizable , pure, angelic voices. Her name
Morgana King with a celestial heavenly ethereal voice, unique and mesmerizing. Just like Karen. When a song by her came over the radio, ( today Spotify , UA-cam , etc) within the first 20 seconds ( Like Karen) you KNEW it was Morgana King and you stopped whatever you were doing to listen. Frank Sinatra called her the best female vocalist he ever heard.
If I may so bold as to suggest you listen ( when you have a few moments) to the following 4 songs that will silence your mind and open the floodgates of your heart. 2 were created and posted by a “ Morgana fan” with remarkable imagery which enhanced the emotional impact!!
And hope you add them to your playlist so that others may enjoy.
      Please UA-cam
“ Morgana King Happy Birthday 2017” ( 4:26 in duration). The song is called “ desert hush/I am a leaf” please be sure to click the 4:26 one ( the one with a photo of her with lyrics) and NOT the 4:25 or any of the others.
“ Morgana King Prelude to a kiss” ( 3:49 duration)
      “Morgana King
      Lazy Afternoon”
) 3:48 duration with hauntingly beautiful imagery that enhances the already emotionally impactful Morgana rendition.
And finally one more that is to this day her signature song about a lover that promised to return but never did.
“ Morgana King sings a taste of honey” ( 5:17 duration).
So pleased that the younger generation who I send these songs to are amazed and profusely thank me for turning them on to Morgana. Again, if you love Karen please take a few moments out of your day to listen to the unique angelic sound of Morgana. Her emotionally impactful voice will transport you to another world. I promise.
R.I.P. Karen Carpenter & Morgana King
      All love,
      Al

They had something playing over the speakers in the back are sore. All of a sudden, I heard this angelic sound, and recognized who it was immediately, and quietly went nuts. It was the album that Richard put out after her death which was a tribute to her. The Carpenter sound is unmistakable, and I went to purchase the album immediately. Karen Carpenter treated her voice like a fine instrument and molded it to clearly communicate in perfect synchronization with the music. There was rarely any unnecessary vibrato tremolo or trills that would be detract from the musicality or versing of the song. Also, her brother's musical talent and vocal harmonies match the creative and performative brilliance of her sister. Karen seems to have had either perfect pitch or very good relative pitch. She also had a perfect sense of rhythm and excellent coordination in mind and body. The bottom line for me however is that she was able to effectively convey the proper emotional mood in a story/song purely through her musical genius.

I'm 55 and STILL in love with her from when I was a kid. That said, I may agree that Karen was the greatest, but not enough people remember the STAGGERING beauty of the voice of Marilyn McCoo. Omg do you remember Wedding Bell Blues? Easily Karen Carpenter level, she is certainly a very close second in my estimation. She needs to get much more respect and recognition from today's generation. Indeed, no one like those two, ever again.

My mother once told me that, when I was a baby, whenever I'd start crying or get a little "fussy" she could put on Karen Carpenter singing pretty much anything and I would calm right down. I'm not sure how foolproof that remedy actually was, but I can believe it because I've continued to adore Karen's voice throughout my life and to this very day. It's like a sonic antidepressant, even when she's singing a sad song.

I was a HUGE Carpenters fan in the early 70’s.
Karen had the voice of an angel.
    Truly magical.
I still remember where I was & what I was doing when the news broke that she had passed away from heart failure.
I had just had my first son & I broke down in tears.
Everybody could see she was getting skinnier and skinnier from one TV appearance to the next but no one could save her.
To this day I feel her loss very deeply. I am in my 60’s now and I often wonder how much more beautiful music she would have made if she had lived.
She was also a kick-ass drummer.
    Thank you Karen. 💖

Her name

When a song by her came over the radio, ( today Spotify , UA-cam , etc) within the first 20 seconds ( Like Karen) you KNEW it was Morgana King and you stopped whatever you were doing to listen. It's hard to play any other non carpenter music for a period of time you have to let the effect wear off gradually. Strange but true for me. I guess nostalgia is the correct word sorta like the 1940s when the world was falling apart but in America music was like a golden tint that was powerful and in the air. Before television before social media emotions dwelled close to the surface in movies musicals local choirs community dances. My father remarked it was inescapable it was easy to believe this magic dust was real. The 70s CARPENTERS brought it to the television screen and 45 yrs later the magic is still there

Lisa Montoni Yes. I think Richard gets a truly bad rap in Karen's death. It was his drive and musical arrangements which are behind our appreciation of Karen's voice these days. And, back then neither I nor Richard had really heard of, nor understood Anorexia Nervosa. I was a fan of the Carpenters AND I was literally astonished when I understood from news reports that she had literally starved herself to death. In a country with food everywhere....such did not compute with me. I understand a bit more today but....back then????

@@Wiley_Coyote no way! But there are some.... just not a fan of that type of singing.....just saying voices like that have no chance.....like comparing Dionne Warwick to Aretha Franklin......

Her incredible dynamic control is so uncommon. To stay on pitch, and maintain such full tone, through such a wide range of volume is so difficult. I also love how she backs off to blend with the harmonies, so beautiful.

Without question , one of the best voices of our time. Absolutely love Karen Carpenter . A truly great musician . People forget , she was just as good a drummer , percussionist as she was a fantastic vocalist.

Karen's voice was soooooooo velvety smooth. Try as I may, I can't think of another female voice that comes even close . And you're so right, Rebecca. Listening to her sing really does take me back in time.

It must be said that Richard's arrangements were amazing. A solid framework for Karen's spectacular voice to dance upon. I love your reaction at 1:14 when those distinctive harmonies wash over you! Hal Blaine's drumming is kickass, especially in the bridge. Karen used her lower register a lot, saying, " The money's in the basement. " I particularly like how Richard chose to end on C# instead of the dominant A chord. Brilliant!

Hello dear Rebecca, growing up in the late 60's and the 70's to this style of pop songs was glorious, today's songs don't even come close to what was there in the yesteryear. We didn't have FM or stereo, we had AM and mono sounds and it was still wonderful. During those times "The Carpenters" were always on the radio and we never got tired of listening to those beautiful songs by the beautiful voice of Karen Carpenter. I am almost certain that she influenced many other singers to do the same as she did because there were a lot of wonderful songs in that time, decade and era. Thank you so much for reacting to one of the best singers we had back then, even today she is loved by many young persons because as you said"Velvety and liquid" voice that she had.

She had such a beautiful soft dynamic to her voice. She could ease into a note like no one else. She had such a great deep sultry voice. I think many people really don’t notice what an incredible low register she had to her voice. Most female singers have a difficult time hitting some of those low notes she sings without losing air support, with their voice going breathy, lacking any strength.
Karen has complete control of her voice and can do anything she wants with those notes, at any register within her awesome range. Plenty of breath support on even the lowest notes. Notes typically reserved for only male singers.
Women just were not evolved to have a voice so deep, it’s such a rare thing, but then she can ease into and then swell those notes like no one else, like a fine violin; not a voice. I have never heard another vocalist with a vocal instrument like Karen’s.
She was also a surprisingly good percussionist. Women playing drums was unheard of in her time. There weren’t too many and The Carpenters rarely put a fine point on her drumming skills. I knew she played drums, but since their music is very laid back and not percussion heavy music, I thought she was just an adequate drummer, able to keep some simple beats.
I have heard some drum solos from her since (it’s great what you can find on UA-cam) and she was a far better drummer than I gave her credit for. She really knew her way around a kit, but her real magic was that buttery voice.
I’ve always been heavily into Metal, Hard Rock, Fusion and Progressive (my favorite genre) as a musician myself, but have an appreciation for any skilled musicians and great music. The Carpenters were really big when I was a kid in the sixties and seventies and certainly didn’t have the proper appreciation for Karen’s voice as I did as an adult.
I liked a lot of their songs as a kid and even had several of their records, but really didn’t realize just how special her voice was. Sort of like Ella Fitzgerald, the greatest female vocalist of all time IMHO, but never really learned how insanely good she really was until adulthood and after studying music. Ella’s intonation was as perfect as it can get and her scales were unlike anyone else who ever sang.
When I was a kid, she was just the heavy set lady I had to sit through while watching The Ed Sullivan Shoe (not a spelling error, only people my age will get the joke) until I could get to the jugglers or chimpanzee act. Now, I would sit through eight hours of C-Span just to hear Ella sing one new song. It’s funny how our appreciation can change as we grow.
You always hope there will be another Karen or Ella in our lifetime, but so far it’s been a long time coming.

It really sinks in how good Karen was when you hear someone else try to sing what she's singing. Even though they may be good singers, she makes them sound contrite. Also....she could sing just like this LIVE! On tour! WHILE PLAYING THE DRUMS!!!

I grew up hearing her voice, she's like an archetype of the female voice to me. I never knew about her troubles until her death. It's hard to understand such tragedy behind such a clear, pure, effortlessly emotive and beautiful voice. R.I.P. Karen, you will always be special to me.
