In France, when a woman is over 60 and has higher cholesterol, the doctors say "oh good, you have a lower risk of dementia." Medicine is practiced differently in different parts of the world.
I have lived in 4 different countries & Europe have a better diet than the US, live longer & have better access to healthcare. Follow the French way if that works for you & if it feels right to you. Because if it feels right it is right. Good luck. I lived in Athens for 13 years loved the outdoor life & the diet. I'm 58, I exercise weigh 54kg at 1.60m
It’s the other way around “Evidence suggests that there is a relationship between having high cholesterol levels in the blood in mid-life, and going on to develop dementia.”
Hi Angie. I must say you look fabulous. I would never think you are 60+. I myself am 65 and will be turning 66 this August. I just retired and work for 32+ years at a high stress desk job. I worked long hours and simply did not make time for myself. I plan to use the rest of my life focusing on balance and harmony in my life and reconnecting with healthy life style and diet choices. You are such an inspiration to all women, no matter what age. I know many young women who could learn so much from your example. The best to you always.
Congratulations on your retirement! Especially from a high stressed job!!! I’m on 52 in a high stressed job - with a long way to go before retiring! Enjoy your new way of living!
Congrats on your retirement. I am 63 and have just retired from a high stress admin job. I too like you worked long hours and didn’t make time for me. My focus too is balance and harmony. I am meditating taking walks in the morning and finally eating healthy. Best wishes to you.
I had a similar situation. Really took a toll in the long-term, although of course I did not see it at the time. I also plan to use the remainder of my life focusing on balance and harmony and health.
Thank you for making this video, Angie. As a doctor myself, I really believe women like yourself who put so much effort into their own health and then show other women that it's possible have such a big impact - often a bigger impact than doctors as you have such a large audience! Thank you for everything you do. Love from the UK
Dear Angie, Your dedication to self care has helped you to look at least 20 years younger. I was told yesterday that I should be following a Mediterranean diet for my health. Wow, what a change. But, if I want to feel better I have to try to make these changes. You are such an inspiration to me. You put over 100% effort into everything that you do. You are a prime example of a woman that truly cares about herself. You look fabulous, Angie!! I love your food, exercise, makeup, skin care advice. Thanks for doing all of the research and then taking the time to share it with your subscribers. You are the real deal!! I thank you for all of your wisdom. Sincerely, Gina S Idaho xo
Thanks for this video Angie. I also started to eat healthier by cutting sugar. For breakfast I have natural oatmeal that I cook with frozen blueberries. For lunch, a salad with either some leftover or cottage cheese. For dinner, I've cut down on starches by more than half and put more vegetables on my plate. I've lost 25 pounds in the last 1.5/2 years just by doing this.
Hey, lady, I am a registered dietitian and I have to say, you did a great job. It's so important to eat adequate protein after menopause to maintain muscle, function, and independence. Be sure to check with your doctor if you have any kidney disease.
I just turned 50 a few months ago & am starting to go into menopause. For a person who has always maintained my weight without worrying too much about a diet & exercise routine, the loss of hormones & the body changes that menopause causes have been shocking! I feel like I'm living in a completely different body now! So thank you as always for the well researched advice.
You ARE getting another body! Look to your parents because if they are thin, chances are your aging body will look mostly like theirs. Sadly, there is no magic wand. We age and our bodies betray even the most athletic of us. Biggest bummer is that you will sleep less well and feel hungrier during the day - all of it unconscious.
Due to some bad cholesterol and crp numbers, I’ve switched to a primarily plant based diet. My numbers improved a ton, and now I’m working on minimizing glucose spikes. Sugar is my big weakness. I’m an avid hiker, so my cardio is in pretty good shape. I’ve added resistance training the past couple of years, and love it! I’m 60, and am doing my best to take care of my body! I also take saunas several times a week, and have a monthly massage.
I also eat plant based, over 21 years now. Dr. Esselstyn and Dr. McDougall are excellent resources for heart diseases reversal. I have super high genetic cholesterol and need to eat this way. I also need to watch my sugars, nuts and especially oils. I feel much better eating this way as well.
Appreciate you doing this extremely important video…I went to the hospital last month and found out I had heart disease and a clogged carotid artery. I’m a on a heart healthy/inflammation eating plan and have lost 14 lbs. it’s fantastic you also address our beauty from within us for longevity ❤
Thank you for keeping it “real” No scale, no powders, no math logarithms, just daily wholesome choices Love watching your videos! You are truly an inspiration! That AM cereal mix of yours , YUM!
Try the orange juice from Costco. Kirkland brand.. Each glass serving of Kirkland Signature orange juice contains 21 grams of sugar, but none of the sugar is added sugar nor chemically processed sugar.
Hi Angie! I’ve also added more protein to my diet as I’ve gone through menopause. Try having Greek yogurt, nuts and berries for breakfast. I add almond butter to that too. I don’t have a sweet tooth, so I don’t have much sugar added at all. Btw , Gut health focused Drs will tell you orange juice is one of the worst things to have. Better to eat the orange. Also swapping your oat milk for unsweetened almond milk gives you a healthier option! Oat milk is delicious but not the best option! I’m on zero medication with no health issues at 57! All down to the diet choices we make. 😊
@@rdoran2836 *Type 2 diabetes. What you said has no relationship to the onset of type 1. I'm not picking at you personally. We Type 1s ust try and get the clarification out there where we can, knowing others will read the comments.
Hey Angie. I have been subscribed to your channel for several years and follow a lot of your advice. You exude realistic and positive energy when you speak, and I always feel energized after watching. I often use your videos as a springboard for further research, and I find you continually give solid, fact-based information. Now I just need to follow your eating advice. At 65, I'm not overweight, and I have a generally healthy diet, but we can always improve. Best wishes, and keep up the great videos.
Great video! I too will be turning 60 this year and in post menopause and have been taking good care of myself through exercise and healthy eating and having very very limited sugar for the last 40 years! I’ve always believed in self care and that health is wealth! I believe in trying to always have a positive outlook on life and intuitive eating is key! Age is only a number!Cheers to not letting age change us, but changing the way we age!
I definitely agree with adding more protein to your diet, especially as you age. When you combine that with strength training, it can help build muscle as you age, instead of losing it.
Your recipes sound good Angie and you look very healthy. I'm a senior and by changing my diet went from 160 to 113 pounds over the course of a year. It's possible to lose the weight by eating regular meals of healthy food and minimal snacking. I have a sibling who grazes and is never hungry for a meal. She is heavy and having trouble with stairs in her home. As we age a healthy lifestyle can make such a difference in quality of life.
I graze all day, never eat big meals and I am healthy and slim. I also have Hashimoto's hypothyroid disease. It boils down to calories eaten vs calories burned.
@@selectiveoutrage6617 It also matters what you're eating though. A lot of people are thin and unhealthy because of what they choose to graze on. My husband is like that. He remains thin but makes poor food choices. When he hit his thirties, he was told he had high triglycerides. I'm overweight but eat healthier and my blood work is immaculate. Doctors always praise me and tell me they can tell I eat well. I just eat too much.
@@saltycat662 Portion control is key. Most people eat more than they think they do. MyWeigh is the brand of scale I use daily. Comes in handy when cooking with metric recipes, too
Just wanted to thank you for these vids on eating...I was feeling incredibly frustrated and moreover, hopeless...I was 40 pounds overweight and have been unsuccessful with fasting (Skipping meals) in the hopes of losing the weight. As we all know, for some of us, the skipping meals leads to overindulging and I really feel like it slows my metabolism. Your sane approach with a 3 meal structure was eye opening for me and yes, I needed to look at my dessert habit. Time to face the music that at 55 years old, I can no longer get away with dessert after dinner. Everyone's different and for me, I have found success with one dessert per week (Eaten outside of the home so I don't keep it in the house) - It's brought me peace while getting these stubburn poounds moving in the right direction. Would you consider doing a vid on how you approach sweets, if at all? Again, many many thanks for what you do.
My mom was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I have been looking up tons of videos ... Thank you for the examples ... I'm sending out love to everyone 💙💛❤💚💜
Great video! Once you start the menopause journey, everyone please get a bone scan. I was a lifelong dancer/gym rat and was shocked to find I had osteopenia that rapidly became osteoporosis. When I asked my doctor what I was doing wrong, he said “nothing - tall, thin, blonde…I could have predicted it when you were a toddler”. I’m 70 now, have been on Prolia since 2017 after breaking my wrist and tibial plateau, and have thankfully reverted back to osteopenia. Bone health is serious business!
Is there anything that you did other than the prolia to revert back to osteopenia? I am in my 50s, just broke my wrist two weeks ago after having never broken any bones. I'm also lean and blonde. I have a bone scan scheduled with my mammogram, but not until fall. Wondering if I should have it looked at sooner. I have it on both sides of my family.
@@KarenDGobsmacked I took Fosamax when I first got diagnosed in my 50s with osteopenia, but it didn’t really work. My endocrinologist says Vit D3 is crucial because it helps the body utilize calcium. She has me take 5000 IU/day. I still do a lot of weight bearing exercise and strength training. My mother also had really bad osteoporosis (broke both hips leaning over to unload the dishwasher). If you can get an earlier appt for your DEXA scan, the sooner you can come up with a game plan. The good news is if your wrist fracture was due to osteopenia or osteoporosis, insurance will pay for the Prolia without a fight! I really thought all the weight bearing exercise I’ve done was going to protect me, but nope. Best of luck to you! 💕
This is my story. Tall, thin, blonde. Broke 3 ribs when I was violently coughing with bronchitis is my mid 40s. Then I broke my hip (actually the head of my femur) at 47. I was an exercise person since my teens. A very healthy eater. There was no fall or accident to explain my broken femur. The hospital assumed I must have cancer. They didn’t tell me but told my poor husband and then they tested every major organ and lady parts looking for cancer. None found. I moved on. Then at 50 I started menopause and my doctor recommended a bone density scan. I had osteopenia, especially concentrated on my hips and spine. I had pain associated with it. He put me on HRT and calcium and vitamin d supplements and made no suggestions on my diet or exercise because he said they were fine. Now, at 62, it’s right we’re in was in my 40s. Luckily didn’t progress to osteoporosis. It’s scary to live so healthy and still hereditary end up with this condition.
Awesome video, Angie! I try to follow this way of eating as well. One tip is that Dave's Killer Powerseed bread has only 1 gram of sugar, and is higher in protein and fiber - very delicious too!
This was simply perfect. I hit 2022 feeling fit and turning 50. Fast forward to the end of the year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now I have to take estrogen-blocking drugs for 5-10 years. It’s such a blow. I’m so worried about it’s effects on my bone density (already almost osteoporotic), weight, etc. Thankfully I’m starting at a good weight.
I love this video! I am 52 and 3 years post menopause & this last year I have packed on the lbs!! This made me think that I need to revisit what all I am putting in my mouth. Thank you!!
I had borderline cholesterol as well due to genetics. I followed Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn (heart surgeon) and Dr. John McDoughall's advice and surprisingly lowered my cholesterol significantly. I didn't think my cholesterol would budge. I agree that fiber is very helpful...through actual food (i.e. whole grains, oats, vegetables, etc). I found the book, "Prevent and Reduce Heart Disease" by Dr. Esselstyn to be very helpful. It also helps with weight and other issues.
Hello from🇨🇦! I just turned 65 in December and retired from a very physical job at the end of December. First day,January 1 I started the keto lifestyle. I recently gain before retirement about 8 pounds and knew I need to get a hold of it. I am a person who snacks not meals so I needed a structured plan. I feel great lost about 6 lbs so far but more than that I am becoming regimented. I look after my toodler granddaughter so I am still busy. Sugar was my nemesis! A few years ago I gave up sugar, white flour etc. on the dash diet. Since then I tried to eat clean but I was working at 3 in the morning so convenient eat was slipping in. Thank you for in great info. It’s always great to get a different perspective! Wishing you a long and healthy life!
Another fantastic video Angie!! Hate to sound like a creep but really look forward to each video. As a 36 year old woman from the uk 🇬🇧 with a mother your age who I adore but unfortunately who has never been interested in maintaining her health or anti aging. Your videos are so inspirational and such an incentive to invest and take care of one’s self. You are amazing! Xx 💋 ❤😊
Quinoa in your salad instead of bread will provide more protein and fibre. Oat milk is high in glucose, which is like consuming sugar and an orange is better than orange juice.
Thank you very much for doing this video❤ - I started a complete lifestyle change April 2022 - and haven't looked back. I have pretty much eliminated sugar (added sugars) reading labels to increase fiber, lower carbs and no added sugars. I don't drink anything but water or coffee (I use oat milk for my coffee) - no more juice or pop! I did make your recipe that you had in a previous video (crunch wraps) - using ground turkey - the only item I didn't try to make (I will sometime) was your cheese substitute - I used a low calorie cheese (these were a huge hit and I did them in the air fryer, yum! Enjoy your day! 💗💓💗
It is so important to eat healthy and nutritious food. I'm 48 and definitely can eat what I used to eat in the past. I found it amazes it a mindset thing, I'm truly enjoying the food I eat, get creative making decisions food!!
I’ve added chia seeds, flaxseed, and hemp hearts, along with collagen into my morning protein smoothies and it’s made a big difference to my protein count for the day and it keeps me full a long time!
FYI be careful of hemp seeds to anyone who has not had them before. I made a muesli bowl for my 19yo son (no previous allergies except trees and grasses) a couple of weeks ago and topped it with blueberries, pumpin seeds, chia and hemp hearts. 5 mins after eating he started to feel bad and luckily came downstairs and his whole face was red and started having trouble breathing. Ended up in an ambulance to the ER and full blown anaphylaxis. Will have allergy testing next month but ER doc says his money is on the hemp hearts which is a growing source of allergy with cannabis legalization.
Hi Angie, I've been on your channel for a few years now and honestly you still look the same...amazing ! You haven't aged at all and still cannot believe you're over 50 😱! Love these "what a eat in a day" videos. It helps me so much .. 😘 xoxo
I need to incorporate these exercises too. Thank you for mentioning them. I got out of the dentist chair yesterday late afternoon and got up okay but found myself stumbling down the hall. 😮 I had eaten earlier and was very hydrated and had no Novocain so what the hell?! I’m sure it’s all hormone-related and age as I’m nearly 60 but I was thrown by this. 😢
I have been eating this way since I was in my late 20s because my chiropractor recommended it. Best advice ever! I do eat grass fed ground beef at least once a week and I eat grass fed, full fat butter, whole milk, whole yogurt etc. Now I’m 40 and I’m so glad that my family and I eat this way. Way to spread awareness!!! Now I really need to lift weights
Hi Angie, I have been watching your channel for 10 years! 😁 For starts I eat healthy and have always exercised for the last 35 years. I never really thought about sugar intake because I thought that I ate healthy. So I took a peak at the amount of sugar in my Trader Joe's flax seed oatmeal (11grams of sugar for 1 packet) and my GF granola from Trader Joe's ( 11grams of sugar 3/4 cup granola) I was floored! I have since changed my breakfast to a fiber cereal with fresh blueberries and the oatmilk you recommended, this breakfast is 1 gram of sugar! Thank you for the gentle nudge. ❤
I work in long term care. Just want to mention the importance of protein as people continue to age. It is crucial for maintaining skin integrity. Skin breakdown in the elderly is very much due to nutritional deficits.
Heart health is such an important reminder. Perfect timing for me. Just diagnosed with borderline high cholesterol and trying now to figure it all out. Thank you for this helpful approach.
I REALLY like your "make your own cereal" idea to both dilute the sugar plus add fiber. Sometimes I just miss a bowl of cereal, and it also looks like it would be GREAT on Greek yogurt or even w/ ice cream if you were splurging.
For those suffering from chronic GI issues, I highly recommend adding dairy free fermented foods to your daily diet. I eat it as a condiment to whatever meal I make. Raw sauerkraut and kimchi. There is also natto. If you research the health benefits of natto (Japanese fermented soy beans) it’s a super food, especially for those with heart issues. Problem is the texture and taste. However, after about a month I can now eat it quickly without resistance! I usually eat it after a work out about 3 xs a week.
@@MISSYMINX261 I stock up whenever I visit my local Asian food market - along with the kimchi. Yeah I’m afraid there’s no way of making it taste good. Some people enjoy it tho. I put a bit of soy sauce on it and then try to get it down in 4 spoonfuls. Then drink water immediately after to wash out the taste in my mouth. Its not as bad as it was in the beginning. You get used to it.
I started using fairlife milk which has 6g of sugar and 13 g of protein. I started using keto thins. 12 G protein. 17 g fiber and 4 net carbs. It’s helping. I’ve upped my weight training, things are improving. You always look amazing. You’re very inspiring Thanks for another great video.
Take unsweetened almond milk,.....eat chicken breast boiled, not fried. Eat veg, veg, veg and teduce your carbohydrates drastically, you will see succrss soon.
I will be checking out your blog for your recipes! Thank you! Excellent video with important and helpful information. I screenshoted a lot! 🎉 I’m 60 this year and eat like shit and don’t exercise because I’m naturally thin, to my disadvantage. 😢I must make changes to live longer for my daughter so thank you for the much-needed inspiration. 🎉❤
Really love the numbers! Thanks. Best to ditch any juice it spikes insulin and anything you eat after goes to fat 🤦🏼♀️ (Harvard and Stanford expert not my opinion)and get fiber in the whole fruit. ❤
Thanks for sharing! You look great! I'm 55 and I have noticed what I use to do definitely doesn't work in menopause. Since I've made changes, I've noticed feeling better, losing weight etc. My first meal is at noon and that's my smoothie which consists of: Carrots, cucumbers, celery, avocado sometimes I add arugula. Raspberries A Sprinkle of Black walnuts or pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, collagen, MCT oil powder, coconut flakes Scoop of pea protein Natural spring water I have increased my protein, fiber with moderate fat and low carb intake with each meal. I also do pilates, yoga and strength training at least 15-30 mins 3-4 days a week which has made a big difference.
I am 19 but I still find your videos so helpful, you are the reason why I started using a LED face mask and it transformed my skin Now that my face is generally clear I want to try Trentinoin out I’ve been using benzoyl peroxide for a while now and I think it would be a better choice for me
I’m 60 , 6’2 and 180 , never felt better , 250 push ups a day and run 30km a week , no meat in 40 years , no dairy in 20 years . Plant power , high carb ,low fat vegan 💪🏻.
Gosh you are beautiful ❤😊 I’m 41 and absolutely feel different in myself since hitting 40. My hair feels different, the greys don’t bother me but it looks blah. My skin is dry. My nails brittle. My skin breaking out! I eat well, workout & plenty of protein. Could be stress (recent traumas) could be just age and I am hoping in 20 years I get compliments like you ❤
Just came across this whilst browsing through my You Tube home page. I was diagnosed with Pre Type 2 diabetes around last March time 2022. I've cut out the sugars and changed all my diet, I've lost weight and feel good for cutting out the sugars. Thank you for sharing and explaining your diet. No way do you look over 60, you look great and I would say you look at least 20 years younger than your actual age. Thank You, from England UK 🇬🇧
Try the Ezekiel Sesame bread. It tastes better to me than the regular kind. Also, I’m so glad that you are showing people that you don’t cut out any specific food group and you are healthy, have great skin and are a healthy weight. It’s so much healthier to eat healthy choices across the whole spectrum of foods.
I avoid all things processed. I have not purchased or eaten cereal in over 13 years. My breakfast (and lately I've been practicing intermittent fasting) is generally eggs from pasture raised chickens and three to four cups of roasted vegetables like broccoli, 1/2 cup sweet potatoes, onions and some peppers. I go at least 15 hours before I break the fast. My grands call me the Vegetable Grandma 💗
You look amazing, very inspirational. I did want to add that Simply Orange was my go to juice until I heard that there is a lawsuit stating forever chemicals “pfsas” were found in it.
Thanks for all the info!! I have been watching you for years!! You have some much knowledge. Back in October I had a heart attack and triple bypass 15 days in the hospital. I am so grateful for a second chance and following a lot of food ideas like you eat. My cardiac book from the hospital said you needed 2.5hours of exercise a week. I started walking in the hospital and when I got home I walked everyday at my daughters house. A heart healthy Sodium diet doctor only wanting 1500mg to 2000mg daily. Thank you for giving out this great details. My heart attack was due to heredity both my parents had heart attacks. Trying to live my best life.
Good morning Angie! 😊a very good video… You inspire me to do a little bit better on everything! 😊😊I recently increased my protein, quite a bit as I am lifting heavier weights now. That really makes a difference! I need to do better on the fiber and the sugars, and you are a good example! 😊Thank you for the great information!
You are looking really good these days, Angie. I just ordered the Omnilux and you have given me powerful motivation to increase my protein. Surely, between the dietary changes and the Omnilux, I will look as beautiful as you!!
I love this! I too eat cereal ( heritage flakes) once in a while but my everyday breakfast is good old fashioned home cooked oatmeal with monk fruit, cinnamon and fresh fruits:) I also consume a lot of nuts & seeds, lentils, beans, tofu, brown rice & quinoa which gives me fiber and protein. And I cook a big batch of vegetable soup in winter:) Thanks for sharing this wonderful video 💕
You know, I am 41 years old and I have been working out extra hard to try to stay away from having to switch what I eat; However I am realizing that I can't cheat my body. I am doing this and going strict on the way I eat because this belly fat I carry it's just ridiculous, and just because I don't want to discipline my taste buds. I done having this belly! Thank for posting this video and your blog has amazing ideas.
Thank you so much for this video! I am your sister from another mother. lol We are so alike, it's mind blowing! I do need to add in more exercise into my week. I am genetically thin at the same weight as you, my whole life. I will be 57 on the 9th and you have taught me even more than you can imagine. Thank you for all your videos! You are truly the very best UA-camR out there! XO:)
I'm listening very closely. I've been vegan for 11 years. This year, for some reason, though I weigh the same things have definitely shifted. Jeans don't fit comfortably, and I workout 5 days a week, including cardio, dancing, and light weights. It's frustrating. I get enough fiber and protein. Beans, tofu, protein shakes and bars, nuts, and almond butter. I also have to have dark chocolate daily. I only drink water and tea. I love the Kind Almond Cluster granola mixed in Oatmilk yogurt and blueberries. Thanks, Angie. I need to cut back on sugar. My total weakness. You look fabulous!!💖💖
Have you tried lifting heavier weights? Lifting heavier is very beneficial as we get older for maintaining muscle and bone health! Muscle burns more fat even at rest!
I great message Angie. I’m 48 and hearing people dying on a heart attack at 52 is scary because I’m close to that age. I really am starting to eat better and losing weight.
This was so good, thank you. I'm in perimenopause (possible post menopause - long story - and soaking up all the info I can get after my gynecological health has been grossly mismanaged. I'd love more like this and daily vlogs. You're the best!
Love this, you truly are inspirational! And it is so refreshing that the focus is on fibre, protein and getting the right kind of nutrition rather than calories. 🙌🏻
Absolutely love your videos about what you eat! I don’t know why but I find them so motivating. I think we all are overloaded with recipes and advice, so your routine meals simplify everything. Thank you! Hope you can do one every year 🥰
Thanks for sharing your tips Angie! Made me realize I need to up my protein intake. I have colitis so seeds and nuts and fiber can be tricky. I make a lot of puréed soups to get my veggies! ❤❤
Love your videos. I rarely eat bread anymore since our body turns it into sugar. It was hard to cut it out because I’m pretty sure I could live on bread alone! The Ezekiel bread is really good. I do intermittent fasting/OMAD and exercise daily.
@@redruby8529 exactly. I don’t eat pasta or any rice except occasionally cauliflower rice. I drink nothing but water. No caffeine because I sleep much better since I stopped consuming it. Just cutting out foods that cause inflammation and bloating should help anyone feel better
To take the edge off of green tea, as it can taste bitter, is to switch to Genmaicha. Genmaicha is green tea mixed with toasted brown rice. It has been my morning drink for over 30 years. Choice Organics Tea makes a delicious Genmaicha. You can find it at any grocery store (Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, or basic grocers)
It is hard to stick with your eating plan when out or when entertaining but I feel like if you're diligent most of the time you can eat what you want on occasion. But, you can also look for healthier options on restaurant menus (salad with non-creamy dressing & grilled protein) and cook your friends a healthier meal. When I'm ordering in a restaurant and I know they use butter, I ask to have my food cooked in olive oil or if something's smothered with cheese I ask for no cheese and most places are very amenable. I make it my goal to introduce my family and friends to yummy but healthier food when they come over and they usually love what I've made!
Hi Angie! I just love these types of videos. You are a great example of a healthy woman. I am a bit shorter (5’2”) so there’s no way I can add in the nuts and seeds. I have to keep my calories around 1,000-1,100 to prevent gaining. I do moderate workouts 4-5 days per week and an 61 years old. Have you ever counted your calories? Just curious!? Please keep these coming, I need all the help I can get at this stage in life!!❣️🙏
Commenting here to help others because this is where I started my weight loss journey, trying Angie's diet. TLDR: it didn't work for me...read on to see what did. It seemed like the day I turned 40, I gained 10 pounds. I went from 120lbs to 130lbs. Because I was relatively thin, I was able to live with it. But I had to buy a whole new wardrobe. And tried valiantly to eat less sugar, more vegetables and whole food, and exercise more so I could at least lose some of the weight. Nothing worked. Then at 47, I started gaining more weight, steadily. Until one day a nurse at a doctor's appointment told me I weighed 140. I internally screamed and cried. I spent the next 3 years trying every diet I could, giving each one 3 to 6 months to work. Keto, paleo, low fat, high fat, you name it. Including Angie's diet. I started lifting weights 3 times a week and sprinting. Nothing. Worked. I scanned the internet for help, searching 'menopause weight gain' every few days. And then I found the answer. A woman who had experienced everything I did, tried everything I had. What worked for her and for me? An animal based extremely low carb diet. I now weigh 127 and am still gaining muscle and bone and losing fat. Ironically I had stopped all exercise because I lost my exercise partner. It did not hinder me at all. I threw myself into researching what had happened to me, and other peri/menopausal women. And finally arrived at an answer that made sense to me. It seems that estrogen and insulin are linked, as illustrated here: "The reduction of estrogen in postmenopausal women accelerates the development of insulin resistance and T2D (4). Clinical trials of estrogen replacement therapy in postmenopausal women demonstrated an amelioration of insulin resistance and reductions of plasma glucose level and incidence of T2D (5,6)." I began HRT at 47, and it did not help. I had to change the way I ate. I had to eat like a diabetic to lose weight. (And included something called a 'fat fast' to push through a weight loss plateau.) I found that animal based ketogenic diets and carnivore diets are the best ways for Type 2 Diabetics to be cured from their diabetes, or to at least lose weight and require less insulin. At first, I was horrified at what this would do to my heart health and arteries. But the more I have read and researched, the more I have come to believe that this way of eating is the diet humans have consumed for hundreds of years, and our previous species for millions of years before that. If you think about it, we did not have vegetables available many times a day, year round. Definitely not the fruit we had today, either. We ate...animals. Fish. Grubs. We ran on ketones and a little bit of glucose either consumed or made from our bodies, not glucose. Ketones are from fat, and glucose comes from carbs. I've been eating keto and paleo since I was in my early 40's but only when I went almost zero carb did I finally return to the weight, and health, I experienced in my youth.
Thanks Angie all great advice. I have chronic migraines and struggle to exercise most days the diet advice is excellent. I think being on HRT has helped me stay slim avoiding the fluctuations of hormone imbalances that can lead to weight gain.
Good to know about the protein. Without question, genetics play a big role and I lucked out for being naturally lean and on the taller side. It's truly luck and I have close friends who have a much harder time. It's so individualized.
Great video! I turned 50 last year and boy oh boy is my body changing and I wasn’t prepared for it. I eat pretty good but exercise is where I fall short 😞
The number one thing I did to lover my cholesterol was eliminate seed oils. My good HDL cholesterol went to 75, (BTW I also had a CCS and showed a score of ) at 60, no calcification in my heart)I use ghee, avocado oil, coconut oil and grass fed tallow, much more stable to heat than olive oil. Also lots of protein too, most women don't get near enough like you showed. even those numbers are low, remember chicken eats soy even if its organic chicken., full of linoleic acid which is the dangerous component of vegetable oils. I like the Hope brand hummus made with olive oil. Also orange juice organic with no added sugar are so good for us. Raw dairy is better for us or low heat processed and full fat dairy is better than low fat. Thanks for the video.
Man, I wish I were as healthy as you. I’m not even 40 but I have PCOS, low thyroid, adrenal problems, and now I’m on cholesterol medication. But excuses won’t help. I’ve been trying different workouts and finally enjoy sweating it three times per week. Thank you for sharing these diet tips! I’m loving raw oatmeal with almond milk, blackberries, and sliced almonds in the AM. Zero noodles or skinny rice with protein for lunch, and soup/salad for dinner. Stevia chocolate and sugar free jello helps satisfy the sweet tooth. Wishing everyone better health!
Oats are carbs. So they convert to sugar. Oat milk is not recommended for anyone that is trying to reduce sugar or that is prediabetic. Also rice any type is a carb and thus sugar. I highly recommend The Glucose Revolution by Jesse Inchauspe if anyone is trying to reduce sugars. Since the spikes we get from the carbs also contributes to cardiovascular issues .
Hi Angie, Love your videos. Would it be possible for you to do a whole video on the different types (not brands) of jeans, how they fit, and pros/cons? There are so many types now and not only do I not know the names of all of them (BF, GF, wedgie, boot, slim, skinny, etc) but I cannot tell the difference between some of them. Thanks so much!
Thank you, Angie! Great ideas and reminders. My diet is similar. I try to eat as many different vegetables as possible each week. My favorite is serving bowl sized salads with protein and complex carbs, plus lemon juice and olive oil dressing that I make.
I 1000% disagree that it gets harder post menopause. I am in my mid fifities leaner than ever with a super flat stomach (3 adult children plus a grandchild). I basically eat loads of fruit all day plus sprout/greens/potatoes/root veggies/whole grain carbs or white rice occasionally/loads of herbs such as dandelion/nettle/uva ursi/etc. etc. to keep my liver and kidneys working beautifully and most important is limited fats such as avocado/raw nuts & seeds. I am effortlessly lean! The obsession with protein is a myth! Plus I NEVER count calories, have been eating this way for almost 2 decades! Leaner than ever! xxoo
“Effortlessly lean”! Lucky you! Every body and system is different! You can’t 1000% disagree because ONE way works for you that may not work for others with different metabolisms, genetics, health disorders or injuries. You sound very self absorbed and don’t realize other people may be different.
Dear Angie, thank you for your wisdom and research. The proof is your skin and your weight. Changes pay off. Big changes pay off big. I loved loved your vitamin C video in which you went down to ph levels, and I have been following your videos since. You inspire everyone! Eager to see your upcoming menopause video!
We are close to the same age. I went through menopause early in 2006. Fortunately I've never had problems with the belly fat until recently but I've gotten a handle on it pretty much doing a version of what you're doing. I've very active but that belly fat suddenly popped up but thankfully I'm almost back to normal in my belly. 🧐
Thank you for sharing your belly fat issue. I notice my belly gets bloated then goes down. I knew it had to do with sugars but I am finally getting a handle on it. Thank you for being so encouraging for me.
In France, when a woman is over 60 and has higher cholesterol, the doctors say "oh good, you have a lower risk of dementia." Medicine is practiced differently in different parts of the world.
So true ❗️😍🫶🏻
And statin drugs may increase the risk of dementia as well. We need cholesterol!
In England you’re offered statins if you have high cholesterol. I refused them so have been advised to go on a low saturated fat diet.

Congratulations you deserve retirement. God bless.

Thanks so much Gina! That means a lot! 💜 My eating plan is based on the Mediterranean diet! It's great for heart health and longevity!
Well-said Gina! She’s truly inspiring. 🎉
Awesome!! Keep up the good work!
Good for you!!👍
Way to go! Inspiring share! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Hey, lady, I am a registered dietitian and I have to say, you did a great job. It's so important to eat adequate protein after menopause to maintain muscle, function, and independence. Be sure to check with your doctor if you have any kidney disease.
What do you consider adequate protein?
Bio identical hormone replacement is your only way out. Life changing.

Weight training is also good to add into your workout

I do the same! WFPB has really helped my cholesterol and crp numbers as well.
@@rawcurls1 , is a plant base diet good to lose weight for menopause ? ty
Appreciate you doing this extremely important video…I went to the hospital last month and found out I had heart disease and a clogged carotid artery. I’m a on a heart healthy/inflammation eating plan and have lost 14 lbs. it’s fantastic you also address our beauty from within us for longevity ❤
Lowering inflammation is more productive than lowering cholesterol. Inflammation is the cause of most disease.
Thank you for keeping it “real” No scale, no powders, no math logarithms, just daily wholesome choices Love watching your videos! You are truly an inspiration! That AM cereal mix of yours , YUM!
It's so good!!
Try the orange juice from Costco. Kirkland brand.. Each glass serving of Kirkland Signature orange juice contains 21 grams of sugar, but none of the sugar is added sugar nor chemically processed sugar.
Ah, darn, no math logarithms? There has to be some way to use that arcane knowledge from university days.
@@slopez1901it is still sugar and it is more satisfying to eat oranges than drinking juice and less sugar
Great addition. I was shocked at how high in carbs/sugars oat milk is. No wonder it's so tasty 😬

I’ve always believed in self care and that health is wealth!
I believe in trying to always have a positive outlook on life and intuitive eating is key! Age is only a number!Cheers to not letting age change us, but changing the way we age!
You look great
I definitely agree with adding more protein to your diet, especially as you age.
I need to know your diet regiment!
I would love to know what you eat as well. Congratulations on your weight loss

I just turned 60. I’m going to start doing every single thing you’re doing because WOW, you look AMAZING!❤
Start taking D3 K2 vitamins vitamin D3 and K2 help to incorporate calcium into your bones
@@KarenDGobsmacked HRT will protect your bones and also your heart.
Your age may say that you are getting older , but your looks say that you are getting younger! You look amazing !
Wishing you all the b3st.
I love this video! I am 52 and 3 years post menopause & this last year I have packed on the lbs!! This made me think that I need to revisit what all I am putting in my mouth.
Thank you!!
Technically, menopause is official when it has been a year since your last period.
I love your simple recipes! I am 59 and developing a belly that I never had. Thank you for the inspiration to pay attention to what I eat in a day.
I’ve added chia seeds, flaxseed, and hemp hearts, along with collagen into my morning protein smoothies and it’s made a big difference to my protein count for the day and it keeps me full a long time!
I do the same 4 every day too. I was wondering why she didn’t mention any of those. Definitely great for adding fiber & protein.
Same. Plus I chuck 2 serves of various veggies in each smoothie. It’s a delicious way to start the day.
Chia seeds ate expensive and high in calories, better to have veg and boiled chicken, it fills you up and provides a lot of protein.

Excellent Angie!, I have noticed being in my mid 60's that balance and stability training are a must alongside weight bearing exercises too.
I enjoy these videos so much! I am going to try your cereal ! What milk do you use to go with the cereal?
Pushing 56 with rising cholesterol. Just what I needed to start eating to bring the numbers down. Thanks Angie! 😊
Those added sugars are hiding everywhere!! 😖
Trader Joe's is crap for older people. Best to eat wholesome food not in a box, can, or bag.

Oh yay!! I'm so happy to hear it!!
Where do you buy the natty? it is so hard to find. I've been wanting to add it to my diet but not sure how to prepare it so it tastes good.
@@MISSYMINX261 I stock up whenever I visit my local Asian food market - along with the kimchi. Yeah I’m afraid there’s no way of making it taste good. Some people enjoy it tho. You get used to it.

I agree 💯
I avoid all things processed. I have not purchased or eaten cereal in over 13 years. My breakfast (and lately I've been practicing intermittent fasting) is generally eggs from pasture raised chickens and three to four cups of roasted vegetables like broccoli, 1/2 cup sweet potatoes, onions and some peppers. I go at least 15 hours before I break the fast. My grands call me the Vegetable Grandma 💗
Cereal in the US is so so processed, I can find only one box (I forget the brand name) that has no added sugar. Especially granola.
Alicia from CT here and you do NOT look 60!!! You look amazing and such an inspiration!! Thank you
Angie, try the Silk Cashew (unsweetened Vanilla) Milk...that has 0 sugar , 25 calories per cup and it's VERY creamy!
Been following you for years Angie and I swear you look younger now than when you first started your channel. You're obviously doing something right👍😁
Wow, thank you!
@@AngieHotandFlashy it's true, you look great
Thank you so much, Angie!!
I love your recipes!
You are so helpful, and I do appreciate all your hard work 🥰
You know, I am 41 years old and I have been working out extra hard to try to stay away from having to switch what I eat; However I am realizing that I can't cheat my body.
XO:)
This is phenomenal. Thank you. I’m 30 and I look at you thinking - gosh, I wanna look like you look in my 60. I don’t want to ever get old🙈
Wait til you’re in your 40s…😂
Yes! This is exactly my issue as well! So frustrating!
Have you tried lifting heavier weights? Lifting heavier is very beneficial as we get older for maintaining muscle and bone health! Muscle burns more fat even at rest!
@@kmoresco6858 it is totally frustrating!
@@AngieHotandFlashy LOL. Henry is 25lbs. Does that count?? Also I have Fibromyalgia, so more than 5 lb weights, and they set it off. 🤷♀️
Yes! The fabulous Henry DOES count!! ❤️
I know, there is not much information about this subject which is not cool at all.
I'm confused. On the days you don't do the salad for lunch and you do the avocado toast with an egg, how is that considered high protein?
Love this, you truly are inspirational! And it is so refreshing that the focus is on fibre, protein and getting the right kind of nutrition rather than calories. 🙌🏻
YES! 🎉🎉
Sourdough bread, even though it is made with white flour has less of an impact on blood glucose.
Absolutely love your videos about what you eat! I don’t know why but I find them so motivating. I think we all are overloaded with recipes and advice, so your routine meals simplify everything. Thank you! Hope you can do one every year 🥰
So happy you like them!
I don’t drink any juice ever . Pure sugar . Much better to eat an orange . Thank you for lots of good ideas !
Thanks for sharing your tips Angie! Made me realize I need to up my protein intake. I have colitis so seeds and nuts and fiber can be tricky. I make a lot of puréed soups to get my veggies! ❤❤
Happy you're finding a work-around to get in your fiber!
Love to see your recipe videos ❤😊
I'm 72 and look 45..weigh the same as I did in college, 5ft 7 in, 137 lbs. Have worked out since my 30's.
Love your videos. I rarely eat bread anymore since our body turns it into sugar. It was hard to cut it out because I’m pretty sure I could live on bread alone! The Ezekiel bread is really good. I do intermittent fasting/OMAD and exercise daily.
I'm an everything in moderation person so I rarely cut out anything completely. But we each have to do what makes sense for us!
Patti I’m doing the same as you, IF and OMAD. Feeling great too 👍
@@StellaGizzi I love my daily routine. It works for me. I just turned 58. I’m glad IF and OMAD is working for you too.
I love bread and pasta but I notice a big difference in belly fat within a few days of cutting them out.
Thanks for the great info Angie 👍🏼 my problem is when we’re out dining or having friends over, really difficult to keep the good habits 😊
Many fitness and nutrition experts say to follow the 80/20 rule. Keep up with your healthy habits 80% of the time and use the other 20% to indulge.
Seeing the Greek yurt traveling to the ends of the earth and coming to your plate makes me very proud!
Thank you Angie, this was very helpful and informative. Great idea about bulking up cereal - genius!! I am definately doing that going forward 😊💕
Great video. Explained everything really well and so calmly. No fanfare and hype. Thank you.
Please keep these coming, I need all the help I can get at this stage in life!!❣️🙏
I've never counted calories just try to eat less junk and everything in moderation!
@@AngieHotandFlashy you rock!!
It’s refreshing to listen to you talking food sense. Normal healthy food that’s available to everyone.
It seems that estrogen and insulin are linked, as illustrated here:
"The reduction of estrogen in postmenopausal women accelerates the development of insulin resistance and T2D (4). Clinical trials of estrogen replacement therapy in postmenopausal women demonstrated an amelioration of insulin resistance and reductions of plasma glucose level and incidence of T2D (5,6)."
I began HRT at 47, and it did not help.
Thank you so much for sharing I still struggle but I’m going to try hard to do animal based and lower carbs instead of keto .
Ive started throwing hemp hearts into anything I can during the day to up the nutrition.
Most nutritional experts actually suggest 1gm of protein per pound of body weight.
So 120pounds would be 120gm per day.
