30 years ago I showed up in Italy to visit my then boyfriend(now husband) who was in the Navy. I showed with 3 suitcases and a back pack ! He took one look at me and said next time I’m leaving you at the train station😂. I learned to pack for a month in one carry on and a back pack. My wardrobe is monochromatic for the most part. I packed a weeks worth of cloths.

Couple tips if i may: use removable scotch tape to label your decanted products if they don't come with labels. I save shampoo/cond samples (the flat "single use" type) & bring 2 or 3 instead of minis to save room. I dont wash my hair everyday & each pack gives at least 2 uses. Finally, be sure you're packing your credit/debit cards & ID's in an RFID protected wallet or bag as that's how scammers are stealing identities these days & also be sure to keep it in a pocket on your person or in your bag that is well protected as pickpockets are a danger, especially overseas.

I travel for months with a carry-on and finding laundromats is a fun adventure where we meet other travelers. I usually find an H&M and buy new and I take some clothes I'm tired of to leave there to make room for the new. One must for me is a contact case filled with Vick's for smelly bathrooms, bug repellent and bites, motion issues on boat rides and I put some on a kleenex or my scarf for the plane because airplane air can get stale. Always take Advil/Tylenol to Europe, you can't buy it easily there. Just a few of my tips... Have fun!! 😊

I always wear a jacket with good pockets on the plane. Light weight cotton if it is hot, rain jacket if the weather is iffy. I can put money and credit cards, passport, Kleenex etc right close to my body. I also do the small back pack for under the seat where I always have snacks like nuts so I don’t have to eat the awful airplane food. I also love packing cubes, but also find ziplock bags take less room so often substitute them for structured makeup bags. I use the Trinity London gauze cloths for makeup removal. They take up less room than the wonder cloth and dry super fast,

Oh. My. God. The "Carry-On" Suitcase I showed (it's called "The Carry-On Roller" by the way) actually isn't carry-on size 🤯 I don't want you (or me) to get to the airport and have to check it after packing for carry-on so please don't buy that one if you really want to carry on (I put a note next to the link), it's still a great small suitcase tho. My daughter has it too and she says she's carried it on many times with no problem but I wouldn't want to risk it... I linked another suitcase which is an actual carry-on size and I have the larger size of this bag and it's excellent (and much less expensive) and comes in pretty colors too! Also, I'm not sure the InStyler is dual voltage now either... I took it to Greece last summer and used it over there without a converter and it worked great but it doesn't say 110V/220V. So sorry about those 2 mistakes... 💜

I used a carryon for three weeks in Europe but the US version of a carryon is different than the European carryon. We flew from SF to Heathrow with our luggage and then they made us check our luggage in to fly to Italy. Your luggage has to fit in this tiny little rectangle box for it to be considered a carryon. The flight attendant in Heathrow said “you Americans don’t know how to pack!” 😂

I traveled to Italy in late Sept/early Oct for 11 days and managed to do it with just a carry-on. We needed some extra layers due to changeable weather e.g. a light raincoat, so it was tight. Also had no access to laundry due to changing hotels every day or two. I employed some similar strategies to Angie such as mixing and matching outfits and wearing each piece several times. For a Caribbean vacation I need my big bottles of sunscreen so I don't think I could get by with carry-on. Should also mention a tip for makeup...I pumped out twelve days of foundation into a contact lense carrying case. Worked well.

Yep, wear the running shoes or boots (in winter) onto the plane! Ditto a light down jacket in winter. As for depending on a man to lift your suitcase up top, nope. Seriously, as we age (I'm nearly 60), part of the reason I do pushups and lift weights is for function, e.g. so I can lift 40 pound bags of dog or cat food and lift my own dang suitcase! :). Get fit enough to lift your own suitcase (unless you are disabled, or have other health issues that preclude it, of course).

I still have to check a bag, but with your help, I can get all the irreplaceable outfits, accessories, and beautifies onto the cabin with me. The checked bag will be for things I won't die if they get lost...but when your friend gets married for the 3rd time and we are all of a certain age, you do NOT want to lose your outfits! I have that exact pink soft squishable bag, it is FANTASTIC! Taking your travel brush set wi me, I'll be helping wi make up as well. That set of your is GENIUS. Thank you for all your hard work. I used contact lens cases for liquid makeup/tinted moisturizer, Elta sunscreen, primer, some cream medication, etc., and it worked great! We went to Portugal for three weeks in May of 2022 and my husband insisted we only take carry-ons. I didn't think it could be done, but it worked out well. I took my core skincare, including tretinoin, an exfoliant, cleansers, and face sunscreen, but pared back on the serums and makeup. We purchased body sunscreen the day we arrived. As we travelled around the country, it was wonderful to have only a small backpack and a carry on suitcase for the entire trip. Thanks for the products you featured. I love the pink backpack!

As a teacher who travels all summer, I approve of the advice in this video. I would add that you want to leave space in your bag for souvenirs or purchases made while traveling (if I’m in Ireland, I’m buying a sweater).
I would not bring the heels. My vacations require a lot of walking, so heels wouldn’t get worn. PLUS, they take a lot of space in the bag and many of them have metal heel components that cause delay going through security.
Be careful of the travel shampoo bottle of Oribé because the top popped open TWICE while I was traveling and I lost a half a bottle or more of shampoo and I was so sad. Not to mention that everything in my shower bag got sticky with shampoo. What a mess.
Lastly, I have a packing cube that is empty for my dirty laundry that I accumulate. I don’t want my dirty garments coming in to contact with my clean garments.
I find that rolling your clothes is more space efficient than regular folding (you addressed the issue of wrinkling). I find that starting the roll at the waist and rolling down keeps the wrinkles high and the legs straight. Also, you can buy a small bottle of Downy wrinkle release and spray your garments the night before and they fall out OR many hotels come with an iron now.

Great video. I’d like to add that if you are struggling with lifting a carry-on and getting it into an overhead compartment, start weight training. Again - Start weight training. Lift heavy weights. Be strong. Prevent that bone loss ladies! Also - If you are not able bodied due to injury or disability and cannot lift that cary on, the airline can absolutely arrange for someone to help you get your suitcase in/out of an overhead compartment.

Lisbon is amazing but go off the beaten track and go where the locals go. We stumbled upon The ancient theatre dig in the Alfama neighborhood one day. So interesting and free to look at!! Honestly the only thing we were disappointed in was Sintra. We didn’t know you had to go to a machine and purchase a ticket and you can only go in the time that is printed on your ticket. Long waits and the only refreshments at the top of the hill is a little shack with gross overpriced sandwiches. Honestly there is soooo much to see you won’t be disappointed. Excellent advice! I use most of these techniques myself. A caveat though for international travel. The TSA is only in the U.S., so the TSA compliant liquids bag may or may not be accepted outside of the U.S. For international travel, I pack my liquids in an actual quart baggy, and even then, in one European airport had to repack my liquids into another plastic bag that was provided at the security checkpoint.

I have travelled for months with just a carry-on and I have never missed anything. All packing cubes are compression cubes if you fill them up to capacity. Also I mail any excess bagage back home. It's usually cheaper than excess bagage fees (if you ship by boat) and the post office is more reliable than the airlines. That way I can shop and not worry about fitting everything in suitcases and having to haul it around during the trip.

Love getting more ideas for packing. I went to Europe in April for 14 days with only carry ons. I have the back pack Angie promoted last year (Lovevook on Amazon). The weather was rainy and cold for most of our stay so I had to pack sweaters and a water proof jacket with a hood. I ended up getting a quilted coat from Columbia with the omni-heat tech. It was perfect b/c it was so light weight and squished up to fit in my bag. (Didn't wear it on the plane b/c we flew out of Phoenix and it was in the 80s - 90s.) I wasn't going o any fancy events save for 1 concert in Vienna. So I decided to pack all fleece lined leggings - easy to roll and save space - and 1 pair of skinny jeans - 4 bottoms total. I packed 2 bulky sweaters, 1 long sleeve blouse (for the concert), a long sleeve ribbed shirt, a sweater vest, and a flannel shirt. Again, rolled eveything. I wore my adidas on the plane and packed a pair of heeled booties. I also fit in underwear, pjs, an empty cross body hiking bag that I used instead of a purse, a triple barrel iron, straight iron, small jewelry bag, and an empty gym-sized bag for souvenirs. I put my make up bag and liquids in the back pack. So for anyone traveling to places with cooler temps, it is possible to pack warmer clothes in a carry on. What I regret was the skinny jeans, blouse and boots. The concert was in a church and it was FREEZING! I wore my coat the entire time and there was no need or point to dress up for it. We also didn't eat at any fancy restaurants that required nicer clothes - which might add more to a packing list.
To condense make up products I looked for double ended brushes. I could not find a decent double sided brush that could be used for blush and bronzer. I know you can use the same brush to appy both, but I would love to see a double-ended brush on the market......hint hint BK Beauty!

I don't want to bring all the extra bottles but also don't want to have dryness or irritation during my trip. I bring an oil cleanser, waterproof tinted sunscreen, second cleanser, Vitamin C, and a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. I have perfected packing a carry on bag. I traveled all over the country on my job for over 30 years and after a few lost bags I learned to pack a carry on and a under the seat bag. One thing that always went with me and still does is a Cross Body bag which is a must for me.

Something I’ve learned over the years is to wear your heavy shoes (sneakers) on the plane, but if going to a sunny, warm climate, pack your flip flops in your backpack or shoulder bag. Flip flops take up almost no room and are lightweight. Change into them mid-flight and pack your sneakers away in your backpack. I did this flying into New Zealand in February. I left Seattle in the dead of winter, arrived in NZ in the middle of the summer. My feet thanked me for being able to breathe when I changed into my flip flops. 😊

Great video! I love a travel tips video. I always do carry-on when I travel. There are size differences in what they allow on planes in the US and other countries. If you are going somewhere where you have to take a smaller plane, some of those only allow soft-sided carry-ons. It is good to do research on where you are going. My favorite person on UA-cam for travel advice is Travel Tips By Laurie. She is a Houston pilot's wife who travels all the time. She has so much great advice on every aspect of travel if you need it. For example, all my cosmetics and personal toiletry items are in tiny containers now. You often don't need 3 ounces of something like foundation so put several squirts in a small container. I would also suggest carrying only a small container of moisturizer and sunscreen. Leave your skincare routine items at home. You don't need all that on a trip. It makes packing in a carry-on easier. I also use ziploc bags instead of thicker pouches for things. There is so much great advice out there that will allow you to pack lighter.

Great video Angie! You might want to reconsider where you keep your ID especially if you wear your backpack on your back. It is easily accessable for pick pockets. We travel multiple times a year and keep our passport in my husbands sling bag on his chest. Maybe flipy your pack to your chest while in crowded areas. I've seen that too.

You always knock it out of the park, Angie, and this vid is no exception! I’m very intrigued by the tsa-compliant toiletry bags. I’ve been suffering with a ziploc bag, and it’s just not enough.
Agree, the rolling thing is a bit of a gimmick. It just doesn’t work for me. I do love packing cubes though, they make it possible to fit more even without compression somehow.
I love you beach vacation style, esp the red and white strappy tank-do you do a strapless bra with that, or just let the normal ones show?

Perfect timing for this video.....I leave on Sunday for 10 days in France! Ordered the packing cubes, quart size bag and a few other things....should all arive today or tomorrow! I am a first-time all carry-on for this trip, so already got an official carry-on suitcase. Thanks for all these great tips! On another note, I bought and have tried the Naturium retinaldehyde you recommended, and I love it. I cancelled my Agency because my skin just never adapted to it....always broken out, and I could not get them to just give me one ingredient at a time to see what the culprit might be. After using the Naturium for one week, my skin has been transformed! Not every product works for everyone, so I am happy you try new things. I will be interested to see what you think!

This was very timely. I'm just now making my packing list for a Sept 6 trip.Lots of great reminders here. I'm trying to do carryon and usually do but not sure I can make it work this time. I have started traveling with my own little hair towel that twists and fastens and now wouldn't leave home without it. So many times there aren't enough towels in a hotel room. We use one of those reusable but nice looking bags from HomeGoods as a beach bag. They're cheap, the sand shakes right out, they can get wet, they hold a ton and they don't take up any room at all.
I wanted to come back and edit this comment now that we're back. I bought both the little one ounce and the 3 ounce bottles and both were game changers for allowing me to go with only a carryon for a whole week where I needed sunscreen, shampoo etc. I put my foundation, face SPF, Vitamin C, Hair styling product, shampoo and conditioner all in the one ounce tubes just filling them with the amount of pumps I'd normally use in a week. I decanted my body sunscreen into the bigger tubes which were great for taking to the beach. It all took so much less space and and now that I'm home I've washed them all out and they all came out really clean. The one I had foundation was a little harder so I used one of those reusable straw brushes which got all the way to the bottom of the little tube.
🌴 Also, I made a note of all the stuff I packed for "just in case" and left it in my suitcase so next time, I won't bring so many items that I didn't use or wear.

In lieu of the wicker hand bag, you can pack a foldable bag that sizes down to 1" x 1". I also have multiple foldable travel jewelry bags that take up way too much room and now only use a very small one as I end up never wearing all that jewelry. I simply wear most of it on the plane and then wear just a few pieces during the trip. Also, many times all the cubes, little bags for every little thing take up more room that just putting that stuff in a Ziploc that you can roll all the air out of! Moreover, the Ziplocs are CLEAR and you can see everything that's in there. Lastly, in lieu of the cubes which in my opinion is double packing, I roll my clothes in dry cleaner plastic which keeps my clothes wrinkle free and compressed without the need for the belts (which as you can see is wrinkling your clothes!)

I've not experienced airports that would let that much liquid in a carry on. They want all liquids to fit in a quart size Ziplock style baggie. Some international airports are even less. Heathrow, for example, has their own baggies you have to put your carry on liquids in. They would make you toss half of that.
That being said, this has some great packing tips.
