You all prolly dont care at all but does someone know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my password. I love any tips you can offer me!
I’ve seen your review of the Filson brand and could not agree more. Living in MS, I can not justify much of their wool material. Simply would not get enough use. However, i purchased that briefcase for grad school in 2010. Since that day, it has been used almost every single day. It’s been thrown on so many passenger seats, floorboards, and overhead compartments that I should be embarrassed. I condition the leather once a year. The thing simply will not quit! Only thing that makes it look used is the blue indigo from my jeans. It’s truly a “Buy once. Cry once” piece.
Absolutely love the Moose Heirloom Messenger! I've carried the original for the last four years and you're right, that one is the top of the heap. The only minor thing I'd change on the Heirloom 2 is that I would prefer the original carry handle design. In my opinion, I'd prefer the handle on the 'body side' of the bag. Having it attached to the top requires latching the flap when lifting/moving the bag, whereas on the older design I could move the bag around the room without having to fully close it if I just needed to quickly retrieve something.
I've been using a Filson Sportsman's Bag as my every day gym bag for years. Other than the bottom being dirty, it still looks and functions as new. I'm sure one of my grandchildren will enjoy it after I'm gone. And as far as Messenger Bags go, my Satchel and Page is the bomb. Substantial Veg tanned leather, no zippers to fail, simple minimalist design, and will most likely last forever. Every time I use it, it gets a little more beat up and looks better for it. Keep up the good work Carl; love your videos.
Frequent traveler business consultant here: After cycling through many bags, I have settled for Tumi. Their high end stuff with ballistic nylon and leather details. The thing with leather bag is: a) they are heavy, when you have to travers Shanghai airport is a hurry, that matters, b) their vintage design is from an age before air travel and notebooks and thus they are not actually designed for that use case. Sitting in a middle seat in a cramped airplane and having to access your gear, is when the right bags shines. Or having 5 min. before boarding and being able to finish a document without having to fiddle with latches to get your stuff. There are stylish accessories and there are working utilities, finding the sweet spot between these two, is what picking a bag is all about. For my luggage I do prefer a weekender duffle (also Tumi Townhouse) over a cabin trolly, you are just more agile and especially on trains (I‘m from Europe) you move so much faster and hassle free. If you want to go with a leather briefcase, cut the cheap options and go directly to Swaine in London and commission one to your specification.
Hey Carl, nice vid, and I knew the Moose Brand Messenger II was going to be your top choice. I purchased that bag this summer based, in part, on your initial review some months ago. I use this bag everyday, and it is as functional and durable as it is beautiful. It’s an attention grabber.
I have several bags like your Basader Minimal Messenger...and I added top handle to them. The handle is added by rivet at the top back...like CRAVAR. I have CRAVAR FC too...sure it is a wonderfull bag. Having 3 bags from CRAVAR, one of the them is Daypack type (backpack). Filson 256...just about 2 weeks with me...I think, no matter what canvas, the strongest canvas it still a canvas, not leather. People just seeing the brand... I always pleasure watching your video...thanks Carl
Currently using the Musette Gaston bag from Bleu de Chauffe. Love the canvas material. It too only has one big pocket but that works for me since I like to organize my things in smaller bags and pouches. It’s bags within a bag lol. Love the look of it too. It’s ruggedly refined. Can take it hiking but also to the shop or the cafe and it doesn’t look out of place!
You have great taste Carl...can't fault your choices here, for you do get what you pay for. I am impressed with the Moose Messenger....thanks for introducing that one to me. Carl Friedrik makes a nice weekend bag, and roughly half the price of FC...so perhaps not an apple to apple comparison, yet certainly worth your time to review to see how it stacks up.
I have the small tanned Leathershop heirloom messenger 2. I really love the look and material of the bag. It is very structural to protect the inside and surprisingly lighter than it looks. My only wish was that it could be much smaller than the medium which is only one inch bigger at 16 inch wide. I use it daily as my office bag. My students love it.
SERGUIO ROGETTI makes absolutely gorgeous leather work bags! I have a vegetable-tanned, full-grain leather messenger satchel with a zipper closure and a buckle closure, which is very convenient for those who commute on foot more than on wheels. It's roughly 15 inches wide and 13 inches tall. I love it because it has three cavern pockets on the inside, a zipper pocket both inside the bag and outside on the back, and a small buckle pocket on the front. I believe it was roughly $100, and I could get my name branded on the bottom corner of it.
I bought a ruitertassen tan briefcase last month and although it is made in all the right ways, the leather is not at all what I expected. The only leather items I had before were shoes and quite a few pairs, I was used to leather that has some heft but is also pliable with some bounce. The veg tan leather of the briefcase was much lighter in weight and pretty stiff, despite being thicker. I haven't seen them in any recent reviews but there was a review a few years ago on this channel, the products are pretty much the same. Just something to consider if anyone is looking for more options.
I wish you would have brought up the Ruitertassen bag. The Professor Backpack II has been my dream bag for some time now. I know it’s under $400, but it’s an expense that hard to justify with a low budget.
I’ve been looking for a messenger bag for years now…none of it settles for me, until bolts briefcase by water field…Man love that bag have been using it ever since
Wondering if you’ve had Saddleback Leather and Colonel Littleton products? They definitely should be on your list as super premium options. Saddleback’s catchphrase: Stuff your kids will fight over!
just gonna stick with my Canyon Outback bag i got at the thrft shop a couple years ago. wish it wasn't black but it is super solid and looks professional. not bad for 6 bucks! great video!
You should make a video about what your edc (every day carry) is and what you use and why you have the thing you have in your pockets/bag love the videos keep up the good work
Take a look at Frost River. Their stuff is all Made In America and is bulletproof. My brother bought one of their packs for his second trip to Afghanistan, then used it to travel all over Europe.
ive been enjoying the satchel and page brief case (well i was before covid, i havent had to go to the office since end of march 2020) and duffle. i need another duffle and have been thinking of going up to the frank clegg but the satchel and page is so nice and wears in so nice i might just get the zippered version (as i have a non zippered version now).
I bought an Rod & Gunn messenger 20 years ago and have never felt the need to replace it , don’t find that not having a handle on top was ever a problem . I have lusted other messengers over the years like Col Littleton but I’m not the kind of person 5hat doubles up for the sake of it .
If your in sales, and are presenting a new unique idea then one upping everyone is why you want a Floto 4050 messenger bag. I can just fit my complete 17" screen mobile workstation(engineers big laptop for 3D-Design) with all the necessary hook-up gear into a fleece lined sipper compartment. Other lined areas allow documents, and goodies. This is about five inches wide by 13" tall by 18" long. First impressions are everything when results matter. This is the "PRIMO" leather bag with silver plated key locking, hand, and shoulder straps.
I'm just curious @Carl Murawski in case you wanted a custom leather bag. Which one would you prefer in the long run the soft buttery Napa leather or the stiff often boxy vegetable tanned leather?
In a nutshell, what is your opposition to Saddleback Leather based upon? I had bought a number of them and have lost interest... And you're introducing Moose Leather messenger 2 has me intrigued
Leather bags are pricey so before I buy anything I usually check which part would be the weakest part, if it deserves a cotton/canvas/leather for that part, how it will look when it's worn out, will its handle ruin/deform its look or wrinkle it, does that bag design look better with napa/veg tanned leather/oiled leather.
Just wondering if its better if these bags are better with an interior lining of some type bc I heard something about leather interior but alot of these bag look like a single layer of leather throughout without anything to protect the it from coffee spills etc
Great video, Carl. I am a fan of the Allen Edmonds duffle and briefcase, both of which I own. They are exceptionally well made and attractive. The only downside is $$$. I am an author and speaker and consider their purchase an investment.

I know this is an older video but does anyone have any good recommendations for a good medium size leather backpack? I'm gonna watch the whole video. Tired welder asking because I destroy a regular bookbag every few months hanging my bookbag in the shop. Leather is the thing we wear for PPE so I thought hey maybe a backpack made of leather would work lol
As much as I bash Filson for being near-total sellouts, my go-to bags for everything are their 24hr and 48hr waxed canvas bags. Not perfect but hard to beat.

Maybe back in the 70's when Marley owned Ghurka... since then the company has been bought and sold 4 times. 2018 the company went bankrupt after a holdings company botched the brand. Now an investment banking firm owns the company. The brand went from being produced 100% USA, then they shut down the original factory, and switched production to China, Portugal, Spain. Never really told the clients this and clients like myself spent $2,000 on a bag made in China, not the USA. Clegg is one of the last remaining original bag designers out there and has been in USA since 1970. That is why he is talked about so much. PERIOD
Anymore I would still take Frost River over filson 7 days a week for both their quality and for what they as a company stand for compared to the sellout filson has become
I have a lot of stuffs from them, especially bags. 1 pilot bag, 1 duffel bag and a toiletry bag. Beside those, I also own a leather jacket. In my opinion, they're a great if not the best choice in that price range.
@@CarlMurawski how can you do a ‘leather round up’ and not cover saddleback leather? That would be like doing a mobile phone round up and exclude Apple.🤷♂️
Show me on the leather bag where the capitalistic pig touched you. Seriously, this is a channel that reviews daily use personal items. Why did you expect?

I hope you’ve given that Custom Hide a nice brushing.
In a nutshell, what is your opposition to Saddleback Leather based upon?
I had bought a number of them and have lost interest... And you're introducing Moose Leather messenger 2 has me intrigued
It’s mostly due to their weird price hike that came out of the blue and Dave’s ignorance on leather types. He’s selling Hondas at BMW prices.

It is, but the Moosebrand leather is crazy thick. It’s easily three times the thickness, almost like harness leather
Hey, Carl. I'm working on a leather bag project with Lithuanian artisans. How would you describe your perfect bag?
