I just removed the tank while descaling today and 'permanently' broke it until I saw your other video about resetting the overheat switch. Back in business. Thanks!
You can also get mold from leaving the wet, used K cup in place. I usually not only remove the K cup, but leave the lid open for a little while for it to air dry after my last use for the day.
I just replaced an older Keurig model that I had for about 10 years with the Keurig Supreme and I’ve always left my used k-cup in my Keurig. Never had any issues but with that said, after watching your video, not anymore. I went in my kitchen just now and took out my used k-cup from my new Keurig Supreme that I just got several days ago. I’ll be changing my habits on that along with cleaning it weekly with just running water through my machine. Thank you for this information.
@@JustADad So far I’m loving. Tastes much stronger when I use the strong feature, water/coffee is much hotter than my older machine, and love the big reservoir for the water. Looks pretty cool too 😀
My K-Supreme Duo does not make enough coffee each time it brews whether it is in the metal coffee pot, or the single cup?? Did not take long for this to happen either. Any ideas on how to address this machine was $200
I have used exclusively distilled water in my k-compact, so I would never have to worry about descaling or contaminants. Haven't had any problems, going on 2 years. Coffee tastes fine. My hypothesis is that they are (a) upselling their descale solution or (b) hoping your scaled-up machine will wear out as soon as faster so you throw it out and buy a new one! I will never stop using distilled water.
I was using distilled as well...we have such hard water here. I've heard others say to use distilled. This is the first time I heard to NOT use it. Confused...
I agree. I've always used distilled, for the same reason. To keep the machine clean. It's weird that distilled water somehow wouldn't hear as good as regular filtered water. Nothing has happened to my machine bc of using distilled
I too have only used distilled water. I have had this Keurig for many years with no issues. I’ll try a tank with tap water and see if I notice a difference in taste!
Does anybody really want to have to stick a paper clip up the needle? That is like a tire manufacturer that says you have to put air in the tire before you can drive your stupid car anytime you wanna go someplace.
I am on my forth keirig machine over the years. The most inportant thing i have learned is to pierce the k- cup on the bottom by pushing down on it before closing the lid. This is because the k-cups are pressurized, & if u just clos the lid to pierce it the pressure will force small pieces of the aluminum to to get clogged in the needle.
I think you are exactly right. I've learned a lot of good things tonight watching all of these videos. Another important thing is taking the k-cup apart and clean it well. I was getting lots of grounds and after taking it apart, it WAS clogged! I was so happy to know how to take it apart!
I've noticed this very good point. I actually did push down the k-cup and then it flowed nicely, but before it would slightly get clogged and hard to come through the nozzle. Thanks for the tip
All the other viewers are absolutely right. I just did it last night when I was descaling m keurig. It was Running and dying The reservoir of the fellowship When I went to put the reservoir back on the machine And it was not running.
FYI: I have used only distilled water in my classic Keurig coffee maker for over 15 years. No problem yet. I will start using filtered water after a vinegar rinse. Thanks for the video.
I have only used distilled water as well, and will continue to do so. You don't know what you're drinking otherwise. I'm on my 3rd machine since the very first Keurig model, and I'm ok with replacing a Keurig every 5 years.
I take mine out and fill it from the filtered water on the door of the fridge. There is only one way to get in back right. Plus, I decided to wash the reservoir and was glad I did. It can get slimy!
@@lindahandley5267 - We stopped removing the reservoir and use a dedicated pitcher to refill the reservoir in place. Less headaches getting it in right and sealed. Also allows you to refill the tank while it is brewing.
I would think that not taking out the tank while the Keurig is working would be common sense, but that's just me. Love these videos, I've learned so much from your channel.
I just discovered your site, and I'm so glad I did! I got a great deal of good info by watching a few of your videos. I will be watching for all of the notifications. Thank you for your time and help.
Leaving the K-cup in the brewer is very true. I found out the hard way. I always use filtered water via a Brita and that helps a lot keeping the scaling problem to a minimum.
Well I am so happy I found your channel! My blue( just like yours) K mini was not taking much water, and then shutting itself off. I cleaned the pin with a child’s sized super soft toothbrush and ran 2 H20 only brew cycles. No residue in the cup either time but it makes the bubbly air sound again at the end of the brew! Thank you so much! She and I are going on 4 years together, and happily so, until about 4 weeks ago😀. An easy fix! (and here I was thinking she was just getting tired🤣 silly me!) Thanks again!
I've had a classic for seven years and I always use distilled water. I have never had any problems descaled it once. The coffee tastes good enou8gh for me.
Well now I know how I ruined my wife's Keurig: using distilled water. I thought it would be better, it seemed logical to me, thanks so much for the info!! Worth a like and a sub for sure.
This is my second Keurig Coffee Brewer. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first one lasted 6 years. It worked beautifully until the day it didn't. It was hard to go back to the drip coffee for a couple of days while I waited on my Keurig to get here. There is a huge difference in the taste. Keurig makes a really good cup of coffee. This new one is a little different from my old one. I find putting the water filter in was easier than on the old one. Attaching the water reservoir was also a little different but once I figured it out, it too was easier. This new one has the auto off feature but is not programmable like the old one. Only three cup sizes instead of four. The odd thing for me was how much lighter in weight this one is compared to my old one. More plastic and much less metal in the construction of this one. The price is so much less than the original Keurig that I bought and the coffee tastes the same so all in all I am satisfied.
So glad I found your channel and watched you clean the bottom needle. Mine was clogged up and since cleaning it with a paper clip, my Keurig is working great. Thanks for your help.
You saved me! First relaxing morning of Thanksgiving vaca and my new coffee maker does not brew, what???? Thanks to your videos, I descaled with vinegar. Still a no go. Instead of throwing the coffee maker against the wall in my caffine withdrawl state, I watched another one of your videos and cleaned the needles. Success!! That helpful video ended and this one auto started as I was making my coffee, and now I know to take out the pod right away. I do not always do that. Thank you Thank you!
I have an older Keurig machine similar to the 3rd one pictured. I have always used distilled water because the machine stays cleaner longer plus the filter stays cleaner. My machine did not have a warning sticker. Also I have used Keurg these machines first came out and used the distilled water. They seemed to work fine. I hope this is not sales pitch they use now to get more revenue This is my opinion. I enjoy this machine. I have noticed that the material used in them seems to be lighter..😊
I live in an area with very hard water. I've used distilled water now for 5 years, to reduce the scaling and white dust that clogs your Keurig and if you're slow to get around to monthly clean outs. It has totally saved my machine and coffee tastes so much better cause the minerals and additives in tap and bottled water changes the taste of the coffee. Distilled has no taste and so you get the full robust flavour of the coffee. It's awesome.
Thanks JAD....I recently discovered after having Dunkin pods pressurize and block the lower needle as well as force coffee grounds out of pod and into the mug that the grind is very fine. So started to use the strong brew button which slows the pump enough to not over pressurize the pod. Any other K cups did not do this so that is my deduction. It works well with the Dunkin pods. Also, it does seem to be a good idea to puncture the bottom of pod before closing lid to start the brew. The convenience of the Keurig makes it worthwhile to keep in good order with a little maintenance.
I’ve been using the same Keurig machine for many years and I always just leave the pod in after brewing, I guess my machine is just blessed. I didn’t even buy it new it was a hand me down from a friend.
I moved the water tank in the "add water" step of a descale cycle, and the machine just went dark and stayed that way UNTIL I followed your excellent instructions for resetting the overheat sensor. It's been fine ever since.
I also leave the lid up and the k cup container open all the time. I do the same with my washing machine. I use well water that has been softened and no problems so far.
Thanks for this informative video! Just got my first Keurig. Have had mold issues with other styles of coffee makers in the past. So I’m in the habit of removing the used grounds (now, the K-cup) right after I finish my coffee, rinsing the removable cup holder, and leaving machine standing open to air dry. Hopefully I get long life out of it! 😁
After watching this tutorial about not removing reservoir and brewing. Cuz it would permanently be dead. And that’s just I have done, I went ahead and watched your tutorial on fixing a non-working Keurig by resenting the thermal switch. Just like to tell you Thanks! Cuz my Keurig has come back to live another day!😂
Thank you for your helpful hints. I've had 2 Keurig coffee machines given to me over the last 10-15 years. The reason. Didn't like the coffee. Ok, but I loved my DeLonghi coffee machine. It just died. 16 years.
Tip I learned the hard way: Don’t walk away from your machine after you hit the button to start. Remain close to the machine watching and listening until the brew is finished. If it makes a weird noise or starts spraying coffee you can shut it off before it gets worse. I once went down in the basement to check on the laundry and when I got back up to the kitchen I was confronted with a horrible mess from an exploded cup. Took a long time to clean up. And also, press the pod straight down to pierce the bottom needle before you close the lid to pierce the top. And clean the needles frequently with a paperclip.
Your video is the only video that helped me out. My mini Keurig stopped working. We had to pull the handle up once punch the Keurig pod and then push it down. We had to do it a second time before it actually begin to make coffee. I’m not sure but the thing I got from you is don’t leave the K cups in the Keurig machine.
GREAT. I just filled up my water tank with DISTILLED water unbeknownst to me and currently brewing a cup. I SHOULD have checked that pickup Walmart order 🙄 I have a newer model than has a 12 cup pot and the single kcup option. Now that I hear u talk about the “clogged needle problem”, my very first machine I had, the needle got clogged quite a bit and I had to keep cleaning it out with the paper clip method -converted to safety pin , but was a pain in my *** 🤔 But, then again that’s MY bad bcuz I’m the one who hurried out of the house for work (in the O.R.) so NO, u 💯% CANNOT be late for a surgery! And so, I left my wet k-cups in my machine for several days, as I didn’t notice right away bcuz I’m a light coffee drinker. Lesson learned. Thank you for being our Keurig Ambassador! ❤ Now, let me go enjoy this cup just a swanging on the porch, enjoying a relaxing sunset 🌅 😊
That is so helpful! I can't stand when the kcup is left in the machine..yuk...plus it doesn't take long for bacteria and mold to grow. I always take a cup and fill it and bring it to machine to fill up water tank..just easier than trying to seat it full of water. Great tips, thanks!
@@JustADad you know my biggest pet peeve on elite is water level cant be seen from the front , left side has big microwave, i gotta get a stool too look in,i use gallons spring water to fill.
I really appreciate your videos I’m a new owner of a Keurig coffee maker machine and I’m so unfamiliar with all the in’s and outs of my machine so your knowledge has given me confidence in how to operate and care for my coffee maker .thank you ☺️
thanks, I've had 5 Keurig machines over the yrs & I emailed Keurig cause my Mother-in-law uses distilled water in a older Keurig & she got a newer one & was told not to, Keurig said in the newer Models like 2.0 we shouldn't. Also, when the Walmart Keurig K-Duo came out I go it but it stopped filling my cup correctly & I tried everything but gave up & a few months ago I got the Keurig K-Supreme WOW I love it & I want back to using the Keurig filters & no longer use Distilled water
FYI, I was always told we should never drink distilled water but I don’t know why. So I only use it in my iron and humidifier bc we have really hard water. We buy filtered water for drinking and coffee. FWIW. 😊
That’s a good safety feature to make sure it locks if the tank is removed. Is could see how it could melt components or even catch fire. Also, I use a K cup cleaning pod periodically to clean the needles and the pod holder. Never a clogged needle! There are really good reusable K cup adapters available, too.
Be sure to always push the k cup down into the holder to make sure there is no pressure in it before closing the lid, ..allowing the lid to force the k cup down onto the drain needle when there is pressure in the cup will cause grinds to shoot up into the upper needles and clog the machine. Also, I always use RO water in mine, have for 10 years with no issues.
Well that was something I wondered about snapping it in or using the lever that closes it. So I'm happy to see your comment, I am doing it correctly...yay! Tks
@@JoanneLumsdenRealtor Reverse Osmosis .. (unit that filters chemicals and other stuff out of water to purify it). You can install one in a home for under 200 dollars.
Good info and here is a better tip. Use an empty jug or bottle to fill up your Keurig machine. If you break the water holding tank they aren't cheap to replace. I also clean my machine with a steamer. The needle and the pod holder get grind build up. Remove the pod holder and clean below. Good maintenance keeps the machine running good. Still have my Keurig from 2006 and have one k supreme plus
Dear JustADad: TYSM for your Keurig info. Helped with cleaning instructions and also bought a MyKcup thing and was about to throw it away bc it wouldn’t fit in my Keurig Supreme-till I got help from you! Yay!
One thing's for sure. When everything is working properly, Keurig makes a great cup of coffee. I use Community Coffee. I was using the dark roast but have recently switched to the breakfast blend. 1. Aroma..........strong and pleasant. 2. Flavor...........well-balanced and complex. 3. Acidity..........pleasant and lively. 4. Body.............rich and full. 5. Natural sweetness 6. Bitterness.....balanced. 7. Aftertaste.....smooth and pleasant. I'm looking forward to my morning cup!🤩
That might not be a good idea. I'm pretty sure i caused a machine to leak by doing the same. Well turns out one of the plastic t fittings inside the machine that connects the hoses that the water flows through got so hot it melted..It an would drain all the water out the bottom all over my table
Thanks very much! This was very helpful. I’ve been using Zero Water filtered water, which has 0 PPM. I guess I should be using the Brita, which doesn’t filter out much at all. Water out of the town water tap is 260 PPM and Brita brings it down to 250 PPM. Zero Water brings the tap water down to 0 PPM and I thought this was a good thing as you wouldn’t need to descale as often. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! there is a way to add your own minerals to water just for making coffee, they sell mineral packets. I had another viewer tell me about them so I don't really know anything about them
Thanks for the vid. My old keurig finally broke and I got to see the price of buying a new one. Not cheap! I want this new one to last! They seem to only make it 5 years or so
If the tank is separated while in brew the heating coil will over heat and kill the machine. However if you take it apart there is a reset button that fixes it of course give it time to cool down there are videos of how to reset it by taking the cover off
I had used distilled water for over a year because the city water was so nasty where I was or chemically and I never had a problem. ( and on my older keurg the city water had left a film on the reservoir) It is good to know down the road and I had a machine on the far left with the five prongs. I also didn’t know about leaving the coffee pod in there. I did too much probably. And I don’t as far as I know had a clogged up issue. But this is good to know for future use. Thank you.
One thing I just learned today as my machine stopped working and i assumed it was clogged and i tried everything to unclog the needle and still it would not work. Is that the bottom needle part can be lifted out. Then you twist it (it comes apart in 2 pieces.) and you use a paper clip to clean the holes in the needle. And that fixed it. I almost threw it into the garbage! Plus another thing I now do is always run a clean water cycle after each coffee run. I know that's probable over doing it but I drink k-cup teas and teas clog the needles faster.
My k supreme + was inconsistent, so I moved on, but I got a heck of a deal on the smart Keurig. I love being able to brew remotely, from the store, or on my way home from work. The Chalet blend tastes better when it sits a while.
Right I started my Keurig without the water tank on it and it only took not even a minute fro the fuse to blow rendering it useless but there are videos here now that show you how to open the casing and with a small paper clip you can get in there and reset the over power button and fix this problem....I did it but was hesitant because it looked like too much work but I didn't have to take the whole thing apart like some videos sho....I just had to take off enough screws which was about 4 and the casing popped right up from the bottom just enough so I could identify the fuse and reset it........
I use a direct water feed from my Reverse Osmosis system and it works just fine. Also no mineral buildup. I mostly use it just to boil water for my instant coffee.
They STILL make instant coffee? I’m 70, and I’ve never had instant coffee! But…my mom and dad NEVER had anything BUT instant coffee! Except when they went out to eat! And you can bet they lingered over the restaurant coffee! Mmmm…so goooood! Before Keurigs…i bought them a nice Mr. Coffee. Daddy passed in 1992….mom in 2014. Know what I found in the upstairs room? A brand new Mr. Coffee. True story.
Ive had mine about 4 years and have always used distilled water. Our water has a lot of lime in it and its a necessary to use distilled. Still going strong after at least 4 years.
I have an old Keurig 2 and I use Reverse Osmosis water which is as pure as distilled since I have nothing that adds back in minerals and have had no issues. I bought this years ago right around when they first came out. Use that information as you will.
Dear Dad, Thank you so much for all the helpful tips and advice! I raised two sons so I understand exactly why the thing about the water tank needed to have almost a whole episode devoted to it! 🤣😂 Seriously, you helped me make the decision to finally ditch the bad coffee makers and buy the Keurig Mini Plus! I thought it would be a huge hassle, ("What if I run out of KCups?", "Which ones fit?" "Which KCup regular coffees adapter do I buy and how the heck does THAT work?"!?! Watching your videos was a quick way to figure it all out without having to figure it out - ya know? Thanks again! 😊
I have an adapter for using grounds and it works fine, if you look down in there you can see the spike and just line up one of the 2 holes in the adapter so it's aligned, and the holes are much bigger that the spike, mine has 2 little arrows on it so all I need to do is put the arrow at 6 or 12 o'clock
Using distilled water impedes the bloom of the coffee and you'll lose flavor extraction. If you're using it and wonder why your coffee is always weak or why you're having to use so much more coffee, that's your reason. Edit: Also pro tip! Push down and puncture the bottom of the K-cup first, then close the lid and puncture the top. You can impart stress on the K-cup when you put it in and puncture it both top and bottom at once and that can sometimes lead to a failed brew, or grounds in the brew. Puncturing the bottom first ensures a strong seal when the lid is closed.
Just a fyi. I have a Keurig Supreme and someone turned it on without water and it completely shut down, no power. You can open up the unit and at the top of the heating element is the thermostat (not sure on different models) in the center of the thermostat is a small hole and if you unfold a paper clip and push inside the hole it will reset the thermostat and the unit will power on as normal. You are right about the tank and water, it doesn't take much for the thermostat to overheat and shut down.
Distilled water is used in C-PAP machines. The reason given for this use is to prevent mineral deposits forming in the C-PAP water tubing. We distill our tap water and see lots of gunk left in water pot of the distiller. This gunk is mostly what the city adds to the water it supplies to the residents. City water is only as pure as federal guidelines require.
Store bought distilled water also has no added minerals, so once it is in your body, it draws minerals out of your body to equalize with the water already in your body before you pee it out so it's also unhealthy
I use reverse osmosis filtered water. I leave my reusable filter with used grounds for quite a few years in the Keurig overnight no clogging or mold growing.
In the older machines there was a “mini reservoir” inside the machine that would heat the water. You could easily refill the tank while your cup was brewing. This changed on the new machines so understandable habit to get into.
My Keurig went dead and your video taught me to fix it. It eventually wore out so I bought another. In 3 months it went dead while brewing just like my old one. Luckily it was still under warranty so they sent me a new one no charge, which I appreciate. But what’s up with the quality. How many people just toss theirs when they short out? C’mon Keurig!!
There is a thermal switch that you can reset inside the Keurig and it will fix the problem you have. If you remove the tank when it's making coffee. It's really not hard to do and plus who wants to buy a brand new coffee maker when it's a simple fix. Super easy fix.
My experience: Removing the water reservoir, thus stopping the flow of water, while it’s brewing risks overheating and popping the breaker on the water heater, killing power to the unit. Resetting the breaker requires disassembly. I’ve done mine a couple times (one due to fiddling with the reservoir and another during a protracted descaling session when it overheated) luckily, mine didn’t suffer any permanent damage as the breaker did it’s job. Taught me a lesson, too. 😕
I descaled mine today & let it sit for 30 mins before doing the rinsing part because I was trying to follow the instructions on the descaling solution label & now my Keurig Supreme Plus won’t turn on. 😣
@@annjoliz ME TOO!!!! We bought TWO of these self-destructive little bastards, and both of them fried their brains out during Keurig's ridiculous descaling process (it runs itself out of water almost by design). The second was a free replacement, of course. I followed the directions to the tee both times. I got my money refunded from QVC and bought a good old Classic at Kohl's. Works like a champ, and it only lights up the descale light when needed, not after 200 brews. And it hasn't needed it yet!
I'm so glad you mentioned the distilled water warning. I drink distilled water and naturally just thought I could use it to make my coffee. No more. Filtered water from my frig - is that ok?
I have a K Supreme with a similar tank to the one on the left in this video. I refill it by using a large cup rather than removing the tank. I was using water from my refrigerator water dispenser since it was filtered. Eventually one day I had water leaking. The plastic water tank had a bunch of cracks where the bottom of the handle meets the tank wall. Keurig sent another no charge and had no suggestions what happened. Well it happened again. I figured out it must be thermal shock from cold refrigerator water (maybe 40-45 degrees) when I poured water from the cup into the tank. Since using warmer regular tap water it hasn't happened.
I use filtered water from Culligan, but leave pod in until it cools. I never remove water tank while brewing but I do take the cover off and add water to it.
I've used a Keurig for years. The coffee mess you sometimes get is caused not so much by clogged needles as from faulty coffee pod seals. That is the seal on the TOP of each pod that gets punctured for brewing. Good ones use a foil seal that punctures easily every time. Less-than-good ones sometimes use a plastic seal that doesn't always puncture, or at least not completely. Then the water starts to go everywhere instead of inside the pod as desired. One remedy is to place the pod in its intended position in the machine and to then press down manually to clearly puncture the BOTTOM of the pod. Then close the lid/top and re-open it to make certain the TOP puncture has properly occurred. ONLY THEN begin the brewing process. If you get any pods that use a plastic seal be certain they get punctured and not just 'dented' or barely punctured due to the plastic's stretching or thickness. Sometimes cheaper pods have their seals start to de-laminate in the heat during the brewing process. This is the worst sceanario because human error or lack of foresight didn't cause this. When this has happened to me, (I clean-up the mess and then) I empty all the 'guilty' coffee pods into a container and then use the special coffee pod accessory for brewing.
You had mentioned about running the Keurigs podless, my son had done that a few times with our K80 and damaged the pressure sensor. If you are running just for water pick up a reusable basket. I work in R&D, I repaired it with my handheld computer and rj11 connector (found in bottom). The reusable baskets are also good for loose leaf tea.
Sometimes I get coffee grounds in my coffee, I found that coffee grounds build up by the needle and below the part that comes out that holds the k cup , so ! I put a pot under the water dispenser and remove the k cup holder then I pour hot water in the Area under the needle and wash the needle and area with hot water , it’s usually good for about 3 weeks , but I have been doing it every 2 week , don’t have this problem anymore
Thank You... Sir. I appreciate you & your video's on these types of machines. I just brought one for the first time & I haven't used it yet until I heard all the things to do & not to's Bc I'm sure that if I don't read up on whatever machinery & or watch the video's about it, I surely will indeed mess it up... So I again I Thank You
I'm sure he didn't see your comment or he would have appreciated it very much! What a great idea of watching videos on a product, so you'll have a heads-up on any problems! Thank YOU for that!
Thanks JAD, For another fine video. Thinking back over how I did something wrong I remembered the mistake I made that ruined my K cup Supreme Plus. It was just over a year old, and the decalcify notice came on. To be sure I was doing it correctly, I found your instruction video. After I made sure that the water and vinegar mix was right, I set the water reservoir beside the machine, then proceeded to watch more of the video. I don’t know WHAT the heck I was thinking, but I pushed the two buttons (12 and 8 oz) at the same time as directed, and to my shock I noticed the reservoir still sitting next to the machine! Immediately I heard the machine start so I grabbed the reservoir and placed in the base, but then everything stopped. I tried several different things to get it back, but to no avail. Permanently broken, I thought I would post this comment to warn others to be careful and PAY ATTENTION to what their doing so they don’t have the same experience. P.S. I have already purchased an identical replacement. 😊
Hey dad I had my keurig shut down on me two times once when i was in another room filling the tank and someone used it not knowing the water tank was missing .. anyway it tripped of on the internal overload inside to protect the unit from overheating .... the fix is to take unit apart (wish i took picts) there is a small disc about quarter size and there is a small hole in the middle of the disc , you need to use a paperclip to push inside the hole to reset this overload. if your lucky that will do the trick. put the unit back together and plug it in it worked both times. thanks for you helpful tips on the cleaning of the unit. A hack for using distilled water to prevent scaling. (This one’s kinda detailed and long) I have a Keurig supreme plus. I get my water from Purified Water-To go in the Seattle area, which is highly filtered with very low mineral content municipal sourced water for refilling 5 gallon jugs. It’s about as close to distilled water as you can get. I used this water water to prevent internal scaling, and after a while, the machine would say add water, no matter how full it was. And as soon as I added just a few drops trace minerals and directly into the machine where the water connects, it allowed me to use the demineralized water for quite a while before, I needed to do that again. I believe there is some sort of water pressure sensor that that somehow needs to sense mineral content as well. It seems something is measuring a certain level of residual minerals. When pure water, overtime, depletes the minerals it’s looking for it gives you the Add Water error no matter how much water supply container preventing you from using the machine at all. I called Keurig and talk to tech-support and they actually sent me a new machine because they determined that the machine was malfunctioning. When I brainstormed that it’s looking for minerals and they say not to use distilled water it turned out both machines work. So it’s gotta be something that’s measuring water pressure and probably measuring an electric current through the minerals to determine if there’s water in there at all. Because sure distilled water is an insulator. A cord connected to a GFCI outlet will not trip when you submerge the female end in distilled water but as soon as you add minerals of any kind such as trace minerals or especially salt, the GFCI will trip. Either way it’s not a smart machine that can tell if it’s actually getting scale buildup or not. It counts 250 brews and will nag you to de-scale whether you need to or not. And then you go through the descaling procedure and it will leave you alone for an another 250 brew cycles.
I had my New Air Nugget ice maker in perfect order..for 8 months I used faucet water to clean it, and spring water to make ice. Read a few comments about how it’s best to use distilled water to make ice. So I tried it…once…broke my $450 ice machine. No more distilled water for me.
I had the k slim before and quite often it would say add water when the tank was full and I would have to remove the tank and the plate and blow out where the water needle under the tank in the back
I own the classic model for over 13 years, had only a minor clog in the needle and cleared it out. I used to buy Mr coffee machines, they never lasted more than 2 years.
I have to agree with Joshua about using distilled water. Distilled water or water that has been filtered by reverse osmosis will give excellent results while prolonging the life of a Keurig or any other similar type machine. No minerals in water will keep the heating element from getting scaled up and then your Keurig won't need descaling as frequently and machine will last much longer. Removing water reservoir or letting water level get too low will cause the heating element to overheat and kick out the thermal safety switch; which is not accessible without disassembling the machine. This is another place where Keurig will probably charge you a considerable amount to repair or possibly tell you that the machine must be replaced. What I did was drill a small hole in the side of my Keurig to access the heating element thermal safety switch, so a long pointed object can be used to depress the reset button; which will fix your broken Keurig! Please include this valuable information in a future video!!! Thank you!
I just removed the tank while descaling today and 'permanently' broke it until I saw your other video about resetting the overheat switch. Back in business. Thanks!
same thing with me today too after cleaning it over heated and power would not come back on
Nice work!
why the hell would you do that. how did that even sound like a good idea.
@@wannaplaythisdavid Is that how you make yourself feel better? What exactly was the purpose of your post?
Why would anyone remove the water tank while brewing??
You can also get mold from leaving the wet, used K cup in place. I usually not only remove the K cup, but leave the lid open for a little while for it to air dry after my last use for the day.
Thanks for the good tip
@@JustADad You're very welcome!
Good idea I will do
Excelente cancel tky!!😊
I’ve been doing that all along. I keep the filling lid and the brewing lid open for a few hours to air dry.
Helpful tip. I always "brew" 4 ounces of hot water before brewing a K-cup. Makes sure the first ounce through the k-cup is HOT.
This makes sense, @gwcrispi ! Thanks.
Thanks for Watching and Sharing, Let me know how you like the K Supreme!!

I used distilled water for over 8 years, not one problem and could not tell any difference in taste.
I too have only used distilled water. I have had this Keurig for many years with no issues. I’ll try a tank with tap water and see if I notice a difference in taste!
I only used distilled water, never a problem. Minerals create build up on elements, perhaps distilled water contributes to less sales?
Thank you so much the paperclip to clean the needle got my machine working again who knew I didn't need a new machine
I used your vinegar method for my Keurig K last time I cleaned it. It really did a good job our coffee tastes so much better.🙏🏻😊
I have found it helpful to use a pitcher or carafe to add water to the reservoir.
So do I. Reservoir never leaves the brewer.
Same here.
I do too. I get filtered water from the fridge. I’ve had my Keurig for about 7 years with no problems.
I would think that not taking out the tank while the Keurig is working would be common sense, but that's just me.
Love these videos, I've learned so much from your channel.
Sense is no longer common 🙄
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the helpful hints,we all need a coffee Daddy to keep us going
So glad I found your channel and watched you clean the bottom needle. Mine was clogged up and since cleaning it with a paper clip, my Keurig is working great. Thanks for your help.
Glad I could help!
Glad I could help!
I have always used distilled on all my Keurigs and a Ninga machine. Ill think about reconsidering not using distilled. Thanks fir the tip.
I've been using distilled water in my classic for three years, never had to clean it. Works great.
Me too!!!! I’ve had the same machine for two years and only used distilled…and I’ve never had to descale it ever!
Me too!
Why it has a filter
We use filtered Zero water, no problem. l don't want the fluoride and other chemicals. Our water is also softened.
Me too. Not planning to do anything different.
Just ordered my first Keurig and was thinking I'll just use distilled water to keep the machine clean... sure glad I watched this first. Thanks!
You're welcome
I didn’t even buy it new it was a hand me down from a friend.
yeah the older ones were made so good
I moved the water tank in the "add water" step of a descale cycle, and the machine just went dark and stayed that way UNTIL I followed your excellent instructions for resetting the overheat sensor.
Just like to tell you

Wow! Thanks!
yeah, he should add rinse any ceramic cup with hot water prior to turning on unit. they can crack and break from sudden temp changes.
Excellent!
GREAT. I just filled up my water tank with DISTILLED water unbeknownst to me and currently brewing a cup. I SHOULD have checked that pickup Walmart order 🙄
I have a newer model than has a 12 cup pot and the single kcup option.
Now that I hear u talk about the “clogged needle problem”, my very first machine I had, the needle got clogged quite a bit and I had to keep cleaning it out with the paper clip method -converted to safety pin , but was a pain in my ***
🤔 But, then again that’s MY bad bcuz I’m the one who hurried out of the house for work (in the O.R.) so NO, u 💯% CANNOT be late for a surgery! And so, I left my wet k-cups in my machine for several days, as I didn’t notice right away bcuz I’m a light coffee drinker.
Lesson learned.
Thank you for being our Keurig Ambassador! ❤
Now, let me go enjoy this cup just a swanging on the porch, enjoying a relaxing sunset 🌅 😊
That is so helpful! I can't stand when the kcup is left in the machine..yuk...plus it doesn't take long for bacteria and mold to grow. I always take a cup and fill it and bring it to machine to fill up water tank..just easier than trying to seat it full of water.

thanks, I've had 5 Keurig machines over the yrs & I emailed Keurig cause my Mother-in-law uses distilled water in a older Keurig & she got a newer one & was told not to, Keurig said in the newer Models like 2.0 we shouldn't.
Tks

No😅
If the tank is separated while in brew the heating coil will over heat and kill the machine.
Great tips. I had some difficulty with my machine lately and this came in handy.
Great to hear!
The original keurig said to use only distilled water. That machine was still working great when I replaced it. The new one says to use filtered water.
you are so welcome!
Thanks for Sharing!
You should never ever drink distilled water ever!!
Thanks for sharing
That’s a good safety feature to make sure it locks if the tank is removed. Is could see how it could melt components or even catch fire.
In the older machines there was a “mini reservoir” inside the machine that would heat the water. You could easily refill the tank while your cup was brewing. This changed on the new machines so understandable habit to get into.

There is a thermal switch that you can reset inside the Keurig and it will fix the problem you have. If you remove the tank when it's making coffee. It's really not hard to do and plus who wants to buy a brand new coffee maker when it's a simple fix. Super easy fix.
That exact situation happened to me.
I googled how to reset a keurig. Went through the steps found the tiny reset button and is working fine again.
This need to be up to the top lol
You were absolutely correct
I descaled mine today & let it sit for 30 mins before doing the rinsing part because I was trying to follow the instructions on the descaling solution label & now my Keurig Supreme Plus won’t turn on. 😣

We bought TWO of these self-destructive little bastards, and both of them fried their brains out during Keurig's ridiculous descaling process (it runs itself out of water almost by design). I just descaled my keuirig and wow the taste is night and day. I will def start using these tips for the 2nd machine 😅
My cup lid won’t stay closed. I have to hold it down 😢
I have a K Supreme with a similar tank to the one on the left in this video.
Wow 😮, thanks 🙏🏽 for the warning. I love my Keurig!!!!!
#4 buy one! I have had a few, now I have a cuisinart that does K cups and I will never go back... Keurig break way too easily
Thanks for the update!
A hack for using distilled water to prevent scaling. (This one’s kinda detailed and long)
I have a Keurig supreme plus.
Thanks for the information on multiple videos. Very helpful
Your so welcome!
I got the new one as a gift for Christmas. I also got the pod that you can put your own coffee in, but cannot figure out how to put in in
I have to agree with Joshua about using distilled water.
Thank you!
3 years of R/O water and no problems. No gunk to have to clean out every month or so. Tastes fine.
for the K-Express Essentials the button sequence is: press the 10oz & 6oz for 3 sec, then press the 8oz to start the process, thank you for the video.
Thanks for the tip
I use stainless steel reuseable k cups. Now i clean my needle and use filtered water. I add minerals to my coffee. I do take my pods out asap
