For goodness sake, thank you! Finally this question is answered in a sensible manner. Trying to find someone to tell you how to take that cover off is very difficult. If UA-cam gives awards to people that make a video that actually tells you what you want to know in a clear, concise manner without making you lose the will to live, then you should receive that award. Thank you again.
I think that the cover was not intended to be removed and people would just buy another Keurig. Although difficult to remove it can be done and sometimes all that is needed is for the thermal switch to be reset. Thanks for the kind comments!
Thank you for taking the time to record this, easy to follow and coffee is brewing again. I hope the folks at Keurig are ashamed for making a product with a known fault, not informing the customers and happily letting them go to landfill so people can buy another one. Luckily there are folks like Carvetools still fighting for the good guys...
What a GREAT video, Dave! Thank you!!! I especially appreciated the "fine details" and video of you going through EVERY step! This is particularly helpful for those who have no idea how to fix anything. You are a SUPER HERO! Thank you! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I picked up this same machine at a local thrift store, in brand new condition for 13 bucks, plugged it in, no power, found your video and had it fixed in 10 minutes. It’s currently going for $219 on Amazon. Instant channel follow!
I am a pretty under confident DIY person but I followed your video closely and repaired my machine. Thank you!! The removal and replacement of the case was tricky but doable with your great tuition.
Thanks for including the info about checking the pump motors! I had two units where I reset the thermal switch and they immediately tripped when trying the first brew. Both sets of motors were working but there was apparently air in the lines and they did not draw water. I was able to prime the lines by separating the top line from the 3 way connector on the left side of the machine and using a squeeze bottle to fill the small compartment with a bit of water. Once I did this, I could run the motors and fill the lines with water before resetting the switch one more time. Both units work great after a descale cycle. Also note: My motors were labeled and are indeed 12 volt motors. I found that a standard 9 volt battery is enough to power the motors for testing.
Thank you so much!!! I viewed several videos and yours was the winner. The hardest part is removing the cover. Your demonstration and explanation are perfect. I was able to fix my coffee maker thanks to you. I have only had it one year and was not happy when it did not work. My problem was my own fault and occurred because I had pushed the start button for a cup of coffee and realized there was not enough water. Not thinking, I grabbed the reservoir to fill it and overheated the machine. Now I am going to enjoy a cup of tea! Thanks again!
I can't thank you enough for making this video. I thought my unit was toast! I tried to make a cup of coffee with the water tank removed and it smelled burnt and wouldn't power up. I have a model K921 and only had to get the cover off. Once open, I was able to see the thermal switch and used a large paperclip to poke it to reset. I didn't have to remoave any parts. I am so happy I don't have to spend $150 to replace it. Thank you, you rock Mr Carve!
Thank you so much for posting this and saving several of us from the headache of finding a service center and paying to have fixed or even buying a new one. The cover may have been hard to get off but with patience I managed it and now the coffee pot is working again. Thx again.
Your video was clutch! My wife’s Keurig just stopped working one day after a few months. Watching this with the tutorial, made my fix that much easier. Wife has a working machine and I look like the hero. Thank you!
Unbelievable. Woke up this morning, made coffee and it just steamed without any liquid coming out. Thought I was doomed. This worked like a charm. NOTE: for the simplier less mechanically inclined people, I didn't have of of the eletricity parts and it worked fine. To reset the switch all I used was a staple (without plugging the tester in). Also, didn't test each section like he did after resetting. I just tested it before putting it back together. Works like its new. THANK YOU!
Excellent tutorial! My Keurig had a split and leaking hose right under the water pump. The thermal switch was tripped due to no water. Amazing the board did not short. Anyway, swapped on a new hose from an old Keurig and reset the switch. Back in business. Thank you. I didnt break the cover because of your help ( : Have a blessed day!
Thank you for the video. I was able to fix mine by resetting the switch. Mine quit working all because the water reservoir wasn't on quite all the way. When it started heating up, I guess it tripped it. Glad that was an easy fix. Broke a tab or two but better than buying a new one.
You saved my life!!! My mom wanted me to clean her keurig and she wanted me to use vinegar, after I ran a few cups the power was gone and I thought I was going to have to buy a new one so I started googling in hopes to fix it because I don’t get paid until tomorrow! I found this video right off and BAM it’s working!! You very informative and I greatly appreciate your help and video! Thank you!!!
Thank you very much for this video. Was descaling my Keurig and would not power on. Watch your video which was very user friendly and it now powers on. Saves me from buying a new Keurig
Of all the DIY videos I've watched and followed, this ranks towards the top - if not at the top - as it saved my daughter $160+ by returning the replacement she bought me from Target (note: CostCo has a much better, and cheaper, deal) for Father's Day 2024. At the risk of being presumptuous, I have a few refinements to offer: 1) when re-assembling, I suggest you start at the front (rounded) part as the studs on front align the clips on either side, then clip the left side in before doing the same on the right side as it just seems to come together easier 2) if you have them, use automotive trim tools to pry the exterior cover off to avoid as much as possible dinging it with a metal tool (Hobo Freight has a great kit for a few dollars) 3) my Supreme Plus TAS while descaling because I hit the "K" (brew) button when the machine told this dummy to "add water", which most likely tripped the thermal switch/sensor 4) if you find stray bits of broken plastic comingled in with the coffee grounds kicked loose by disassembling the machine, don't fret as like with auto interior parts, plastic doesn't like to be disturbed post-factory, but unlike with a car nothing is going to rattle while using your Keurig I'm not a design engineer, but I wish Keurig would've figured out a way to externally re-set the thermal switch/sensor without having to partially disassemble it. They may have thought of it, but could not place it somewhere externally accessible and still serve its safety function. Time for a cup...
Excellent! Thanks so much. I'd found a different video that I started first, but it was pretty horrible. I really appreciate the easy going voice coaching you do here. I freaking hate doing this kinda stuff and it helped me out quite a bit listening to you walk through this like it's no big deal.
Thank you so much for sharing, we were going to give a senior friend our used Keurig. After taking it out of storage it didn't work. We followed your instructions and now it works perfectly.
Problem solved. Thank you. The disassembling instructions were key. Already knew what I was looking for inside, just didn't have a clue on how to get inside without destroying something.
Thank you very much! I was in the descaling mode and let the tank run out of water and it just died. Saw your video and now I don't have to spend $180! I guess since there was no water flowing it overheated. Followed your steps and I'm back in the coffee drinking business again!😃
Done! Thank you! I use to use my machine just about every day then stopped for a lil while. Thinking that’s why the clog happened or someone was using non filtered water in it. I did not have a volt exchanger to use, yet I was able to fast pinch the tube above chip board right as the pumps started to run. Giving the pressure force to push the clog open. And it has been running since! Thank you dude!
My water tank cover had some water in the lip, & that caused an air/water seal to form around the periphery, thereby restricting the flow of water into the machine during a brew cycle. I believe that low/restricted flow caused my over-temperature condition, tripping the thermal sensor. I wish it was like my furnace where it resets when the temperature reduces below a safe margin. It’s a PITA to take the thing apart to poke a wire into the thermal trip to reset the darned thing! I’ll be drilling a small vent hole in the water tank lid so this doesn’t happen again!! Thanks for the nicely-done video; very informative!!
I was incredulous that this would work, and had even less faith that it was something I could do. But, I was wrong I figured it out and it worked!!! Woooohoooo!!!! ☺️☺️☺️ thanks so much! Just saved us over $100 replacing our hardly used Keurig.
I had one of those small Keurigs from Walmart. Ran out of water and tripped thermal protector. I was gonna throw it anyway but decided to take cover off (it broke) and just used a safety pin to reset the thermal protector and it works! Keeping for emergencies since I broke the cover. But it works again!
My Keurig Supreme Plus only has a single water pump with an “air pump” - according to the control board - up on top with a smaller hose(I believe this device just opens up to atmosphere to allow the pump inlet line to lose suction - like a slit in a plastic drinking straw). I took the smaller hose off the air pump device at the top and ran the water pump - with a separate 12v supply like this video suggested - WITH the smaller hose PINCHED. I did this to verify my water pump was good. Then I reconnected the hose and wires at the board. Thank you for this video AND the bonus details on Descaling - I went through the descaling process last month without entering Descaling Mode, and I think the machine thinking it still needed to be descaled may have led to the issue of overheating…maybe programming? 🤷♂️
Thank you for this video! I have mine apart right now and its currently turning back on which it has been dead for a week! now to start testing to see why it died ! the thermal protection switch was the key to getting back on now to see why it shut off in the first place! thank you!
Thank you for providing this video. My thermal protection switch was located in a different spot but I was able to find it and reset it. Now I don't have to purchase a new Keurig .
Keurig must design these to force customers into buying another one. Otherwise what's up with the hidden reset button? Most hair dryers and many other electronic devices have overheat protection the consumer can reset, in 10 seconds or less. Those that don't automatically reset after a cool down period. In the morning after the descale procedure, I found my Keurig had flatlined. It was unresponsive and I could not save it. Oh no, coffee withdrawal! Your tutorial saved the patient. I performed the operation as described. The most difficult part was opening the patient's chest to get at the vital organs. I only wish my surgical professors in Med. School were as good a teacher as you are. You should get an award for saving the lives of countless coffee machines.
Removing the covers is the most difficult part. A self-resetting thermal switch would likely not pass the UL requirement for this appliance and here we are trying to figure out to buy a new one or can we fix it. Glad this helped and thanks for the comments!
Fabulous video, well done, and I was able to fix the Keurig. This happened when my wife tried to descale the unit. I reset the thermal safety switch thanks to your instructions, the coffee maker is working but the descale mode still on. I have to figure out how to reset the descale mode.
Success I fixed my coffee maker with your video by re setting the sensor I think mine overheated because water was dried up from months of non use But I went one step further by using a small holesaw to cut access port so I won’t have to take it apart next time!!!!! Also primed the water lines by pumping the water tank up and down about 25 times
Thank you. Your tips for dismantling in this video and your " Keurig Coffee Maker No Power Fixed for FREE " video helped us to reset the Keurig without having to replace yet another failing Keurig. Fortunately we did not need to remove the sensor reset. Just reached in with a paper clip and reset it and the thing worked immediately. Now moving on to figure why it keeps going into descale mode every third cup despite having descaled the thing. No clue. thx x2
I did exactly as you showed in this video and everything worked! Thank you so much for the helpful video! But alas as soon as I tried descaling it shut off again with the same issue. Any other ideas on what to do?
Thanks for posting this it was very helpful. Everyone should be aware, in the struggle to get the covers off (and it is a struggle), some clips will probably get broken but should be okay when it’s reassembles. Better than throwing the whole thing out.
Why in the world would you have a non-externally-resettable thermal switch other than for planned failures and replacement? This is the kind of thing regulatory bodies should investigate. Keurig needs to be fined for putting out these pieces of garbage. Mine is less than 6 months old and tripped this switch. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL.
I've never had an appliance so aggravating. I am guessing this is a safety device and if it reset automatically after cooled down and the power was still on, it would start the cycle over again. Probably a fire hazard and would not be good if left unattended.
Subscribed! Thank you for the instructions! I had this exact same issue. Of course it occurred when I was trying to descale the coffee maker. I think I ran too many cycles and it tripped the thermal protection switch.
I drilled a hole in the steel/plastic cover at the exact measurement needed to access the heat switch reset button. I won't provide the measurements because you need to get the cover off before doing this, otherwise you'll likely drill a wire. Then when it's off, you can measure for yourself and de-burr the steel hole with a philips bit on a drill. Takes a little while because the steel is tough. I did a 3/8" hole so I had to walk around the hole with the bit until it was smooth; if your hole is smaller than your philips bit, you may not need to do that. I wanted a larger hole so I could more easily see where I'm poking.
Hey Dave! Thank you for this video, it helped a lot. Mine was the same, no power. But after I reset it like you explained, It turned on! BUT, for some reason, when I tried to brew something after repairing, it started warming up and then it shut down again, just went black without pouring anything. Now its back as before, no power. Any ideas?
Great video! Thanks so much for sharing... saved my coffee maker and this morning I'd like to think in a small way you saved my life.. not good w/o coffee. :-) Cheers!
First of all, this is a problem that Keurig knows about and refuses to acknowledge. I bought this one new from a Dirt Cheep. It powered on at the store (because it is no returns) but as soon as I tried to get it to work at home it got too hot and shut down (I could smell it but it was like that first time it was ever used smell). I followed the directions and now I am drinking a beautiful cup of coffee. But I called Keurig to see if I could at least send it back to them prior to watching this video and pay for a repair and they got hung up on the fact that I bought it from a clearance store. I had my last Keurig over 15 years. It still works. I just wanted one that I could adjust the temperature of the liquid.
Does the Keurig mini one cup have a thermal switch? I fixed my K_Supreme thanks to your most excellent instructions and now my mini is doing the same thing but I can't see the thermal switch. Sad face.
I'm not familiar with that one but all of those coffee makers should have a thermal switch. This is a safety device. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Dave, great video! You’re a great teacher too!👍. I’ve got the Keurig Supreme, not the plus. Did a descale and I think I overheated the thermostat. Will have to try the reset trick. Question. What caused it to pop the thermostat before you tested the motors after the reset? Did it just need a descale? Doesn’t your unit have an indicator telling you to descale? Thanks man. I subbed. I also love that little adjustable power source. Great tool. I’m going to see if I can find one. 😁
The thermostat originally tripped when first powered up after not being used for some time (months). Might be a good ideal to descale the Keurig before putting storing it away. Thanks for the comments!
Thanks for the video! I will try it this weekend when i have time. This is total bs, and really not worth the hassle. I wish costco could have warned us first.
So I did this and it started momentarily but then shut off again. I let the switch cool for awhile and tried again. Same issue. I have been away from home for a couple months and when looking at the clear tubes I could see there was very little if any water in the tubes running to the heating element. My conclusion of why it was overheating and tripping the switch. I couldn't think of an obvious way to get water into the line but after some fiddling I realized if I lifted the water reservoir off the base and set it down again I could see air moving and a bit of water in the line. I keep lifting and setting the reservoir down until water actually started to come out of the spout. I then plugged it in and set it to the coolest temperature to minimize how hot the water needed to get. Works perfectly. So if you have a Keurig and it has been sitting idle for a long time I would suggest lifting and reseating the water reservoir numerous times till you see a bit of water comes out of the spout. That should prime the lines and ensure water is available to heat and likely minimize the risk of tripping the switch. Note my unit sat idle for close to 6 months so I am not surprised the line was dry. Hope that helps someone.
What a GREAT video, Dave! Thank you!!!
I especially appreciated the "fine details" and video of you going through EVERY step!
This is particularly helpful for those who have no idea how to fix anything.
You are a SUPER HERO!
Thank you!
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Well, I'm not a hero but so glad this helped. Another Keurig brewing coffee again. Thanks for the comments!
I picked up this same machine at a local thrift store, in brand new condition for 13 bucks, plugged it in, no power, found your video and had it fixed in 10 minutes. It’s currently going for $219 on Amazon. Instant channel follow!
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
Ugh yes I just bought mine for $1 know I’m trying to fix it 😂doesn’t turn on
Same
Damn bought mine for 14
I am a pretty under confident DIY person but I followed your video closely and repaired my machine. Thank you!! The removal and replacement of the case was tricky but doable with your great tuition.
So glad to hear another Keurig saved. Thanks for the comment.
Excellent tutorial! Used it to take apart my wife's Keurig. Pushed the reset button and all is working again. Thanks!

Very nice video. Good pace. Useful comments, Nice camera angles and overlays. Coming from someone who has been repairing for 60 years, Bravo!
Thank you very much!
I almost threw this keurig in the trash, but i saw your video today and now it works like new! Thank you so much!
So glad this helped. Thanks for the comments.
If only everyone could watch your Keurig videos. I'm sure many Keurig's would be saved! 😎
Well, their sales might go down if they are repaired and not tossed. Thanks for the comments!
Thank you for the video. I was able to fix mine by resetting the switch. Mine quit working all because the water reservoir wasn't on quite all the way. When it started heating up, I guess it tripped it. Glad that was an easy fix. Broke a tab or two but better than buying a new one.

At the risk of being presumptuous, I have a few refinements to offer:
1) when re-assembling, I suggest you start at the front (rounded) part as the studs on front align the clips on either side, then clip the left side in before doing the same on the right side as it just seems to come together easier
2) if you have them, use automotive trim tools to pry the exterior cover off to avoid as much as possible dinging it with a metal tool (Hobo Freight has a great kit for a few dollars)
3) my Supreme Plus TAS while descaling because I hit the "K" (brew) button when the machine told this dummy to "add water", which most likely tripped the thermal switch/sensor
4) if you find stray bits of broken plastic comingled in with the coffee grounds kicked loose by disassembling the machine, don't fret as like with auto interior parts, plastic doesn't like to be disturbed post-factory, but unlike with a car nothing is going to rattle while using your Keurig
I'm not a design engineer, but I wish Keurig would've figured out a way to externally re-set the thermal switch/sensor without having to partially disassemble it. They may have thought of it, but could not place it somewhere externally accessible and still serve its safety function.
Time for a cup...
Great suggestions. Thanks for the comments.
Great video - I really appreciated the manner how you spoke through the video and the instruction provided!

Thank you! Thanks to your video I was able to fix my Keurig and I am annoying my cup of coffee now!
Great. I hope that coffee is being enjoyed. Thanks for the comments.
Best follow along video because without it I imagine I would have broken some panels!
The covers probably not intended to ever be removed. Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments.

I agree that they built it not to last.
Fabulous video, well done, and I was able to fix the Keurig. This happened when my wife tried to descale the unit. I reset the thermal safety switch thanks to your instructions, the coffee maker is working but the descale mode still on. I have to figure out how to reset the descale mode.
This also worked for me! We were about to return ours! You're a life saver! Thanks!
Great to hear! Thank you for the comments!
Thank you for posting, I was able to get my Keurig K29 working again.
Great to hear! Thanks for the comments.
Thank you!!! Resetting that I got my coffee maker working!! 350$ save!
Success I fixed my coffee maker with your video by re setting the sensor
I think mine overheated because water was dried up from months of non use
But I went one step further by using a small holesaw to cut access port so I won’t have to take it apart next time!!!!!
Also primed the water lines by pumping the water tank up and down about 25 times
Wonderful. I think because my Keurig was not used for a few months is why it also overheated. Thanks for the comments.
Very helpful repair demonstration. It saved me $170. Thank you Mr. CarveTools!
Glad to help and thanks for the comments.
No clue. thx x2
Glad it helped! I have no clue why it would want to keep descaling. Thanks for the comments.
Thanks! Mine works again, time will tell how long that fix will last. But it saved us buying a new machine this week
Hopefully it will last, just do regular descaling. Thanks for the comments.
I did exactly as you showed in this video and everything worked! Thank you so much for the helpful video! But alas as soon as I tried descaling it shut off again with the same issue. Any other ideas on what to do?
Maybe fill the reservoir and place it on and off several times. It may be like priming a pump to get the water flowing.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for posting this it was very helpful. Everyone should be aware, in the struggle to get the covers off (and it is a struggle), some clips will probably get broken but should be okay when it’s reassembles. Better than throwing the whole thing out.
Glad it was helpful! Yes, the cover is difficult to remove. Thanks for the comments!
Thank you for posting this! Ours is now fixed! Cheers!
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
Thank you for showing how it’s very clear and easy to follow thanks again
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments.
😊 Thanks because of your video I got mine working again in ten minutes
Fantastic! Thanks for the comments!
Yes for sure
Thank you a million brother you just saved us $300 much appreciate your video
Thank you, followed your instructions and it worked like a charm. GREAT JOB.
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comments.
Thanks, brother! My wife picked one up at the thrift store, too, and it wasn’t working:) Appreciate the help!
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
Fixed it! Thank you for the step by step!
Thank you so much. Fixed mine after the fourth one they sent me did the same. Keeping the one they are sending me as a spare.
Glad this helped. This is a crazy issue to be having with a coffee brewer. Thanks for the comments.
Subscribed! Thank you for the instructions! I had this exact same issue. Of course it occurred when I was trying to descale the coffee maker. I think I ran too many cycles and it tripped the thermal protection switch.
So glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
This absolutely fixed mine! Thanks for the perfect video!
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
Wonderful. I thought about that but kind of cautious someone might get shocked. Thanks for the comments!
Thanks for your video only took 30 minutes and it was up and running!😊
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comments!
Thank You Sir! Worked like a charm!
I followed your well detailed process. It fired up, but when I press brew it dies again. Any ideas?
Worked perfectly. Thanks very much.
Thanks man. Same problem and fix. Appreciate the help.
So glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
Office keurig broken, office keurig fixed!!! Thank you!
Glad this helped. Nothing worse than an office with no coffee. Thanks for the comments.
great instuctions, love your channel. I am back in business with my coffee. thanks a bunch!
So glad the hear this helped. Thanks for the comments!
This video was very informative! I opened mine up and I don't see the large green wire that yours has. Is the ground wire always green?
On mine the green wire is a ground that attaches to the thermal switch bracket. Hope that helps.
that dang thermal trip! im sure thats what happened to my last one! great video and great radio voice! if you're not in radio you should be!
Thank you for the kind comments!
Hey Dave! Thank you for this video, it helped a lot. Mine was the same, no power. But after I reset it like you explained, It turned on!
BUT, for some reason, when I tried to brew something after repairing, it started warming up and then it shut down again, just went black without pouring anything. Now its back as before, no power. Any ideas?
I'm guessing the pump needs to be primed to get the water flowing. It starts heating without water circulating and then overheats.
Thanks for informative and helpful video! Good stuff, sir.
So glad this helped. Thanks for the comments.
Great video! Thanks so much for sharing... saved my coffee maker and this morning I'd like to think in a small way you saved my life.. not good w/o coffee. :-) Cheers!
Wonderful! Glad this helped you get that morning cup of coffee. Thanks for the comments.
TOTALLY on point, simple reset
crisis averted, problem solved, $200 saved
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
Dave thanks for the logical explanation how fix it
I hope this helped to repair your Keurig. Thanks for the comments.
Great video. I fixed mine in less than 20 minutes.
Wonderful, another Keurig repaired. Thanks for the comments.
This totally worked for me, Thanks for the great video!
Glad this helped. Thanks for the comments!
This video saved me the cost of a new Keurig
That's wonderful. So glad this helped and thanks for the comments.
Wow, fixed! Thank you!
Another Keurig saved. Thanks for the comments.
Just fixed my today. Thank a million.
So glad this helped. Thanks for the comments.
Perfect video! Thank you!!
Thank you so much !!! Fixed mine in 30 min.
Excellent! Glad we saved another one. Thanks for the comments!
Thank you so much, I fixed mine with your great video.
Glad this helped. Thanks for the kind comments!
Thanks, it worked great and I didn’t take out the thermal switch like you said. But I broke a clip putting it back together 😅
Glad you were able to reset the switch. Removing the cover is the most aggravating thing ever. Thanks for the comments!
worked just fine for me easy repair thanks
Thanks for the video! I will try it this weekend when i have time. This is total bs, and really not worth the hassle. I wish costco could have warned us first.
This is one aggravating appliance. Thanks for the comments.
Thank you for sharing that information!
