@@mirzarizwanbaig9449 Unfortunately, in the legal realm "cable(s)" doesn't not equate to "connector(s)" of which USB type-C is a connector. And if the law was so lax that new connectors were automatically allowed it would defeat the supposed purpose of the law - eliminate the need for different chargers/cables for different devices.
Personally, I'm glad they made the switch to a standard connector. They should have switched the iphone to USB C back in 2017 when the X came out. Would have been the best time to do it since they moved to the new design. Better now then never I guess.
1:08 No, It's just more practical, nothing more. When you bought the devices, the cable was always included, you never had to buy one. No electronic waste is avoided now because you still get the same number of cables with every new device
That's never happened to me on any device except my MacBook. I know that TikTok builds up absurd caches and data for storage on the phone; try deleting and re-downloading it if you have it
One other reason for sticking to Lighting was mechanical design: Lightning on the cable side is just a solid slab, more robust than the "hollow" USB-C, and has rounded corners to facilitate blind insertion. The Lightning port on the device is just a hole, while the port on USB is a hole with a center "slab", which might be less robust. There used to be docks that kept the weight of the iphone on the connector alone.
@@kayatinsI guess because Apple doesn’t thought these scenario will happen at home. I believe they should do a magnetic ring outside of the usb-c port, so blind insertion is possible again and they can once again charge fee for a ‘magnetic usb’ cable

For phones, it was going to happen sooner or later anyways once you start adding that to ipads, economy of scale starts to work in favour, technically they could probably have improved lightning to make it faster but overall the convenience of using USB-C everywhere is superior to have a "better" mechanical connector... They can still sell them, just not make them. Basically those witch ware made before the law stops it can be still sold, but models made after the law took the place can not. By the time the law kick in, however, the manufacturing of iPhones 14 should be done anyway and if not, Apple probably ships the remaing models to another parts of the world where the law doesn' exist
@@lonxyon3715 Depending on the context of your question, the answer varies. If you're referring to brand new models after the legislation takes effect, then yes, Apple won't be able to sell iPhones with Lightning ports in the EU. However, the resale of second-hand phones will remain unaffected by the port type. For Apple to continue selling the iPhone 14 in the EU, they would need to retrofit or redesign these models to incorporate a Type-C port. However, such a move seems improbable. Given that the law will come into effect in the summer of 2024, Apple has ample time to clear their inventory and minimize potential losses.
So glad they're making Apple comply with something since all they ever try to do is be different an unreasonable. USB-C has always been faster than anything Apple had to offer anyway.
Just wonder how long until they remove the port entirely. They were basically forced to do this, so I’d imagine it’s not much longer until MagSafe is the new Lightning.
With how much pros rely on fast video transfer (which they’re literally promoting as a benefit with these phones) and all sorts of important shit pros and general users rely on, there is NO WAY they’d make the phone port-less, at least for the next 5-10 years. Plus, they’ll need to have a solution in place to remedy this, like when Apple removed the headphone jack, and they had AirPods available right then and there.

Everyone talks about how a good of a change is that. Just NO! How is it going to reduce waste of cables if now people already are or will be forced to switch from lightning to stupid USB-C and buy new cables? Lightning connector was more durable as well, entire time of me having a iPhone previously it never failed and that certainly wasn't the case of "charge only while not using it and in one spot" USB-C on the other hand - harder to clean, more fragile, now I can't leave it charging because it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. Transfer speeds doesn't bother me and probably won't a regular consumer either.
On some level waiting on this change may be kinda beneficial. Less backlash for switching from consumers and investors and they've potentially switched to a connector that's more broadly used across their product lines. Potentially saving some money and complexity due to economy of scale kicking in.
1:47 these customers would just have to sell these electronic accessories on eBay or something to some other owners who still have lightning enabled Apple devices!!
People who are complaining about the switch. We've had lighting for 10 years. We were due for another switch. And if you really care about accessories. Just get a USB-C to Lighting adapter. May as well get the extra accessory.
Actually this narrative reasoning was created by the media from whole cloth. Apple invented this port, and always intended to include it on the iPhone ten years after the “5” and here we are.
Can't wait until 2027 when the new EU law will force every smartphone manufacturer to have phones with removable batteries! Just like the good old days! Also an iPhone with removable battery by 2027! Thank you EU!
Yes the EU forced them but it was coming regardless, it was already in the iPad. The EU law was handy because it gave Apple cover against the backlash changing connector brings. They get the connector they wanted to move to but could blame the EU. Win win for Apple
Apple wouldn’t have done so nearly as soon. $1.2B is something even the richest companies don’t feel like giving up even for a necessary convenience feature.
Apple actually forced the EU to adopt USB-C, it’s interesting to see the tech media fail badly to do their jobs and actually research the history of this port. Apple quickly created USB-C because the consortium and governments were about to enforce… micro USB! They weren’t having that, so inventing USB-C and sharing it with the industry is why we are here instead. Thank you Apple engineers!
I think it's fair to say that it's still "late" for Apple to do the switch no matter what the incentive was. USB-C has been a standard for at least 5 years now. The fact that it took 5 years since USB-C was standardized in the industry, for Apple to change the port out is not consumer friendly. Consumer friendly is appropiating your product to the arleady existing market. Waiting out with an inferior and outdated port, which licensing YOU OWN is a monetary decision and not user experience decision.
Does anyone know the answer to the question? Will the USB-C mandate only apply to device models first introduced after the law goes into effect, or all devices sold after the law takes effect regardless of generation?

Apple tricked the EU into enforcing USB-C instead of micro-USB which is what was originally planned. It’s sad tech media has more interest in telling a good story about government, and not the facts: Apple engineers created USB-C and allowed the industry to adopt the technology, benefiting everyone.
Imagine the black market for european iphones
@@jarencascino7604 it would be a “cool thing” one day to have a lightning iPhone

In today's standard iPhone lighting is considered old, even applied knew themselves. Take a look at your iPad and tell me if they are still using lightning port?

-MacBook Pro
-iPad 10th generation

Even Android phones are USBC.
Lightning seems a bit uncommon.
You may want to mention that the EU tried to make micro USB a default at one point. Apple released a micro USB to lightning adapter for the EU. I bought it and use it with a micro USB cable.
EU clearly stated in bill.
"Standard cables will be updated to latest technology when it's available"..
So idea of USB stuck with old tech is invalid
@@mirzarizwanbaig9449 Unfortunately, in the legal realm "cable(s)" doesn't not equate to "connector(s)" of which USB type-C is a connector. And if the law was so lax that new connectors were automatically allowed it would defeat the supposed purpose of the law - eliminate the need for different chargers/cables for different devices.
Personally, I'm glad they made the switch to a standard connector. They should have switched the iphone to USB C back in 2017 when the X came out. Would have been the best time to do it since they moved to the new design. Better now then never I guess.
They technically could’ve even waited for iPhone 17 in 2025, had they wanted to.
I got a video request: Why there is no Product Red iPhone 15
cause EU laws needed them to
Yeah, could have been a ten second video. Lol.
1:08 No, It's just more practical, nothing more. When you bought the devices, the cable was always included, you never had to buy one. No electronic waste is avoided now because you still get the same number of cables with every new device
There will still be plenty of it though with how much Apple controls what users can replace on their devices, though.
Thank God this transition finally happened anybody who thinks this is not a good thing hasn’t been paying attention.
I have thermal cameras, lapel mics, snake cameras, all with lightening plugs, I’m not upgrading to the 15 until I know an adapter will Work.
The only reason Apple finally switched to USB- C is because it will be law soon...
They were forced to. It wasnt out of the good of their hearts.
Can you please explain why iPhone likes to keep building up large caches (30-40 gbs)?. Which force users to format their phones every year.
I’ve never had “format” my iPhone ever.
That's never happened to me on any device except my MacBook. I know that TikTok builds up absurd caches and data for storage on the phone; try deleting and re-downloading it if you have it
apps open and perform faster
One other reason for sticking to Lighting was mechanical design: Lightning on the cable side is just a solid slab, more robust than the "hollow" USB-C, and has rounded corners to facilitate blind insertion. The Lightning port on the device is just a hole, while the port on USB is a hole with a center "slab", which might be less robust. There used to be docks that kept the weight of the iphone on the connector alone.
still usb-c is the better cable
Then why Macbooks and iPads use USB C?
@@kayatinsI guess because Apple doesn’t thought these scenario will happen at home. I believe they should do a magnetic ring outside of the usb-c port, so blind insertion is possible again and they can once again charge fee for a ‘magnetic usb’ cable
@@kayatins On Macbooks USB-C made a lot of sense: it's thinner than USB-A, it supports thunderbolt, display port and everything else on a single connector, it was going to be the industry standard so it was just natural to have it. The first iPad to have USB-C was the ipad Pro, this makes sense for the same reasons it was added to the macbook. For phones, it was going to happen sooner or later anyways once you start adding that to ipads, economy of scale starts to work in favour, technically they could probably have improved lightning to make it faster but overall the convenience of using USB-C everywhere is superior to have a "better" mechanical connector... Wondering why USB-C connector was not done the other way around though, more similar to Lightning
@@QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 at least we have magsafe back on macbooks, I can't imagine going back to a "standard" plug for power, magsafe is so much better :D
So what about the older Iphone models?
As far as i understood they arent allowed so sell devices without usb-c in 2024.
So can they still sell the old models?
They can still sell them, just not make them.
Basically those witch ware made before the law stops it can be still sold, but models made after the law took the place can not. By the time the law kick in, however, the manufacturing of iPhones 14 should be done anyway and if not, Apple probably ships the remaing models to another parts of the world where the law doesn' exist
@@MartinRusnak so tecnically if they sell out the old models, then we will only be able to buy the new models startng with the 15 in europe?
The Defender came back lol 😂
So glad they're making Apple comply with something since all they ever try to do is be different an unreasonable. USB-C has always been faster than anything Apple had to offer anyway.
Just wonder how long until they remove the port entirely. They were basically forced to do this, so I’d imagine it’s not much longer until MagSafe is the new Lightning.
EU prohibited Portless Smartphone under the Bill❤❤
Portless is only allowed for small gadgets where port can't fit
Ex: Watches or health fit
Not gonna happen for a considerable time. Wires are still far superior, more reliable, and cheaper than any alternative solution.
@@l4kr I'd say wireless is more reliable because there is no port that can break
That's exactly what I've been thinking. Realistically, deep down, Apple would much rather have no port at all instead of having a USB-C port.
Can i use a HDU with the new iPhone 15?
Well actually nobody is frustrated people are happy
I just got an iPhone 15 and I love being able to charge it with USB-C! As a bonus, my spare charging cord is able to charge Lightning, USB-C or micro-USB.
@AppleExplained Do you know why the iPhone 15 Pro came with such a futuristic settings menu for the Action Button? Maybe it’s related to a whole new Settings redesign.
I’m glad they switched anyway
Thanks a lot, EU
Apple is so wicked to make iPhone uses lightning whilst their other devices use USB C
It's awesome that they killed lighting completely but the new problem is they used the archaic USB 2 for base not 3 for pros and pro max.
At least the EU thinks for it's citizens
GOOD JOB APPLE EXPLAINED for noticing iPhones and AirPods switching to USB-C
Because they were forced too there video over
Had to buy lightning to USB C cable for my Windows comp, lightning to USB A for my car charger/power plugs. So future iphones usb c to A cable ?
This stuff should have been standardized a decade ago.
The people that are complaining about having to switch their cables from lighting to USB-C: you have money for a $1300 phone but can’t buy a $10 USB-C charger? Make it make sense 🤡
As EU going to take action with MFI, new strategy is they let you use all cables freely and ruin your $1,199+ stuff which ultimately, you need to pay more than the MFI Cables 😂😂
I know don’t have 10 different cables but 10 of the same. What an amazing solution
if the EU didn't do this Apple will still do lightning
if you can afford to buy an iPhone, you can buy new accessories that use USBC
Ah yes another android fanboy with the “omg apple is so expensive” bro the iPhone 15 pro is $999 and the Samsung galaxy S23 Ultra is $1499 bro y’all android fanboys are dumb lol
The problem isn't that apple is so expensive. The problem is that it's expensive without even justifying the price and sheep like you blindly pay for it. @@Zembie1
Actually, 2018…
iPad with usb-c
What if It will be created a new, faster, thinner and cool USB type D?😂
We have the EU to thank for this as it does make it more universal for any smartphone, iPad & iPhones alike.
Not switching to USB C earlier has already caused a lot of complaints from customers. Glad EU to force that.
No one is above the law.
On some level waiting on this change may be kinda beneficial. Less backlash for switching from consumers and investors and they've potentially switched to a connector that's more broadly used across their product lines. Potentially saving some money and complexity due to economy of scale kicking in.
R.I.P Lightning Cable 2012 - 2023
Why would people complain about
usb-c connector when you get the cable in the box with it
1:47 these customers would just have to sell these electronic accessories on eBay or something to some other owners who still have lightning enabled Apple devices!!
People who are complaining about the switch. We've had lighting for 10 years. We were due for another switch. And if you really care about accessories. Just get a USB-C to Lighting adapter. May as well get the extra accessory.
Anyone who gets excited about a charging cable has no life.
There is no other reason, the EU is the reason apple inc was forced to type c charge cables for the forseeable future
Actually this narrative reasoning was created by the media from whole cloth. Apple invented this port, and always intended to include it on the iPhone ten years after the “5” and here we are.
Because they were forced to
Can't wait until 2027 when the new EU law will force every smartphone manufacturer to have phones with removable batteries!
Just like the good old days!
Also an iPhone with removable battery by 2027!
Thank you EU!
EU will be political destroyed until 2027
there are too many exeptions for not having a replacable battery. :(
iPhone XX now has replaceable batteries
the good old days when i drop my phone and then have to walk 47km to pick up my battery! :)
If the EU will force Apple to make replacable SSDs on their Macbooks and other computers, this will be bonkers!
Europe Forced Apple to do so, that is the only reason behind
I think Apple won’t remove the Lightning port in the future(at least within a decade)because millions of people still use previous units.
the ipad 9th genration somhow uses lighting instead of usb c
Wrong.
Don’t they include a C to C cable in the box ?
They do
The old stuff isnt useless. You just use the older devices until it needs a replacement instead of wasting it
if you want to use the lightning cable for your peripherals, get a usb c adapter
I don’t think it’s that simple
If they made a "Lightning-to-30-Pin Connector" adapter, why not a "USB-C-to-Lightning" adapter too?
I think it's fair to say that it's still "late" for Apple to do the switch no matter what the incentive was. USB-C has been a standard for at least 5 years now. The fact that it took 5 years since USB-C was standardized in the industry, for Apple to change the port out is not consumer friendly. Consumer friendly is appropiating your product to the arleady existing market. Waiting out with an inferior and outdated port, which licensing YOU OWN is a monetary decision and not user experience decision.
I couldn't agree more, but it is all about the money. Apple charges for everything (even when it was included in past models )
All because Apple didn’t wanna lose money because of the EU
My galaxy phone came with just a type-c cable -- I don't have a power block it can plug into. I now need the chromebook adapter to charge.
Does anyone know the answer to the question? Will the USB-C mandate only apply to device models first introduced after the law goes into effect, or all devices sold after the law takes effect regardless of generation?
i think the former will be the case
so it probably won’t apply to iPhone 14s and before
Stuff like that always exempts the past. Think of old cars on the road.
Only the models made from now on.
After passed, that means iPhone 14 can get away being sold in EU even by early 2025.
and apple present it as a Big feature lmao
I’m excited to see what changes Apple won’t make to the iPhone 16 in 2024
It’s not the fact they are not innovating it’s the cant there isn’t anything left to innovate
Apple in 2023 : We have a brand new charging port , the USB C !
Gionee ( an uncommon Chinese brand ) in 2015 : Brand new ?!...okay
Apple is literally years behind of other Tech brands like Samsung and some Chinese brands
We can thank the EU for forcing greedy Apple to make the switch 😂
apple should have bribed more lawmakers if they wanted to keep lighting
People just love to whinge. The change from 30-pin to lightning was 100% necessary. USB-C wasn’t available at the time Apple made the switch and lightning was ahead of its time compared to Micro USB. I would chalk it down to unfortunate timing, but the 30-pin connector had to go.
If they weren't made to be USB-C compatible, they absolutely would have made anotherstupid style charger.
I love how you always do the same music in every vid lol
Not sure how much loss Apple would have made if they just gave users option to exchange their old lightning connector for USB C...
Not a big deal for android users who bought the latest iphone 15 as they can use the charger in their home and not buy a new charger.
This is a major reason why my latest iPhone purchase was the 14 Plus and not the 15 in any version. I have all lightning cables and am not throwing them away.
Imagine not buying a better phone and using a single cable just to worship an outdated useless port lol
They could have just waited for one year for usb c, Or in the first place they could have used standard connector used in others phones
When my computer, steam deck, switch, earphones, and every other accessory I got uses type-c except my iPhone, it’s kinda crappy. I have 20 type c cables and 1 lightning

I work in IT and have seen several Android mobile phones with heavily worn or broken USB-C ports(even Samsung). While I have never seen any Apple devices with broken lightning ports.
This shows that lightning holds up better than USB-C.
I think its just a quality control issue. There's only 1 phone with the lighting port and its apple, whereas there are hundreds of USB-C phones. It's vastly superior.
