I still can't believe that consumers allowed the notch to became mainstream so thank you for giving it a mention, it's such an aberration. You called it a compromise when there was no compromise to be had to be had. Respect to Sony for being the only sane manufacturer out there who stuck to its guns and showed respect for their customers. They have avoided this "compromise" by doing nothing at all and just putting the camera and sensors in the phone's forehead just like we had done since forever before Apple came up with the notch.
It's weird. Over the past 10 years a lot of people have pointed out how new phones are basically the same year on year. Yet people still pay 1400 for a new phone. They just want to say they have the latest phone. I don't get it.
Finally someone that understands what's really going on. I have mentioned something similar on other posts. Its an oligopoly with Apple, Samsung, Google working together one way or the other to destroy the smaller player. This means is less need to innovate. Had Huawei been allowed to stay in the US things would probably be different today. I think though things will probably change as consumers finally realize the con.
And what has Huawei innovated? They are just stealing company secrets like the trifold which Samsung originated but was never put to production because it is too faulty. Look at the news with the number of complaints on the overpriced trifold by Huawei.
I bought a redmi 5, 6 years ago and the phone still serves me well. And the other day, I bought a refurbished samsung edge 7 phone online. And I think the idea of 'notch' or 'waterdrop' is bullocks; people who really want the most important things on a phone, and really understand the concept of 'planned obsolesence' will go for simple sleek designs, since the more a comapany produces a product, the more they're likely to deploy shortcuts to cut costs and increase their profit margin. So you're better off with older models in fact than the newer 'more mass produced' junk.
I do wonder if a business model based on people upgrading their device each few years, well before the device is useless, is sustainable. If the public ever moves into a model of only replacing a product when it breaks, there are a large number of companies which would be severely impacted.
Manufacturers need to slow down the release to one new phone model every two years. It makes no longer any sense to make an annual release; the SoC especially can't improve that much in one year. Also, Microsoft is forcing Windows users to abandon perfectly good computers which don't have a TPM-2 security module and can't run Windows 11. This incompatibility is intentional and unacceptable. This is why two years ago I changed the OS on all my machines from Windows to Debian. I deem a feature like Recall to be a danger, and Copilot a forced feature that I truly dislike. Thanks for the video...

I don't really mind that the design doesn't change when it's not needed...I am quite sick of this obsession with thinness...I find current phones to be unusable without a case.. they're uncomfortable to hold and far too easy to drop. Just make the back flush with the cameras instead of this silly bump and just fill the extra space with battery.
Innovation on hardware part of phones has reached its peak ..all changes are on software only. Minimum 5 to 7 years of usage needed and it should be made mandatory on quality os smartphones and repairability
For me it actually was informative - TL;DR iPhone has gone from innovation to iteration, and phone sales have started to decline eg Apple Pay when introduced added $1.2b per year. Unsustainable increase in profits moving forward. (MHO best thing that could happen - I'd like to see MS, Apple and Alphabet get destroyed). HOWEVER they missed the elephant in the room - the phone is not the product - IT'S THE USER! - especially with the introduction of AI - gleaning every bit of information about the user and on-sell it.
You know, they can apply dead zones to prevent accidental touches. We can even have that option to adjust it as we see fit. That said, it is not useless at all.
It's really to appeal to novelty. Each year, they don't really NEED to add a feature... but consumers demand it. If they just didn't release an update, consumers would complain. Apple were one of the first to NOT update their phone every year. They were lambasted for this... with reviewers often criticizing Apple for doing nothing apart from introduce a new color. Phone technology is pretty mature at this point. Much live TVs, you need to convince consumers to upgrade when they really don't need to.
Apple doesn't need to innovate, is 10 years behind Samsung. Apple iPhone needs a DESKTOP mode! Pen for the iPhone! Allow side load apps. More customizable home screen, let icons resize, let custom icon. Remove the stupid widget screen. Remove stupid camera button and add a button like mouse pad! There are so many apps would take benefit of it!! For example, working on a remode desktop machine, navigate a browser a scroll up down or give a mouse pointer inside ios when is in a desktop mode! This would be an innovation. Apple needs a new CEO, Cook is Cooked
Typically you want iOS to be like android no thank you. The whole point of competition is products being different but you just want everything to be the same as your fucking precious Samsung really sick of everybody putting Sams on a pedestal Samsung are overrated sure they have some gimmick features that are somehow cool, but you’re just complaining and jumping on the bandwagon with everybody else you’ve got no backbone focus the only what Apple does wrong there’s a lot that Apple filter right that Samsung steel does wrong and android as a hole does wrong.
Nonsense. We don’t need anything you mentioned. We need iphone, not android. Looks like you want stability and reliability of iphone with android os. Stick with android, with 120hz, desktop mode and whatever. Stop crying over here
Large strides every year is an unrealistic and unnecessary expectation now that iPhones have become so powerful and durable that customers hold onto them for 3-6 years before upgrading. With that timespan in mind, a customer can expect their next iPhone to be a substantial upgrade over their current model. I’m personally glad that Apple isn’t just innovating for the sake of it and releasing broken phones like the foldables of the last few years. If something like a foldable iPhone can be made well and serve a sizeable market, Apple will release one when the time is right.
Eventually everything gets old, and it's the same with phones. The state of phone innovation right now reminds me of the car industry before electric and hybrids came along - the same same-old cars dressed up in different bodies year after year. Phone innovators need to look at something completely different like e-textile fabric phones with screens you can roll up. The base technology is already begun. They just need to build on it.
I haven't been truly excited to be an owner and user since iPhone 3Gs. I really felt I had new things to discover and learn to use, back then. I only replace lost, broken or battery-degraded iPhones now. They don't excite me at all.
The problem is like all other major companies, eventually the leading talent leaves and anyone else worth their weight does too, leaving companies like Apple with nno actual talent for innovation or new ideas. Same happened to IBM, Boeing, and will happen to more companies as time goes on. Doesn't hurt that Apple really has nothing unique to sell, every company has their own ecosystem now, Android offers more unique features than Apple's OS does as well. Apple also is woefully behind on hardware as well, their new chip was outdone in less than a month after release.
As a person who follows this space rather closely you have covered so many points so accurately over the last 15 to 20 years of phone development it was a great fun run thank you.
@mil546 ever heard of nokia? Early 2000 Nokia phone works flawlessly even after 2 decades later. And it's way better than crappy iphone Atleast it won't robbing us and won't slow down after an update.😂
The problem in the phone industry is they almost have reached the maximum limit on technology and truthfully there isn’t much more they can do to make cell phones anymore high tech than they are now or for the last 3-5 years not much in gains at all
That's one thing I've always done. I've always bought refurbished phones off eBay or back market and paid a fraction of the cost. And it's also true about phones being usable after 3.6 years. I still have my LG V40 and it still works. Same with my Samsung S20 FE. I just use them as alarm clocks now. 😆
Another problem Apple has is that every phone from the iPhone 5s onward can take fabulous photos and darned good video. And for most people that is enough. If Apple did not have serious competition they would probably limit security updates to two years.😂🤣
I’m sick of these negative videos about Apple people fucking expect Apple to do every year. I mean Apple isn’t the only one that isn’t really innovated anymore so let’s not pretend it’s only an Apple problem. Let’s not pretend that Apple isn’t steal the trendsetter and the light of Samsung will copy them.
I wish I had purchased Apple's products in early 2000s to get the full experience of good design and performance. Today I want to avoid Apple's products with all my heart.
You highlight the issue well - manufacturers (not just Apple) have worked themselves into a corner by delivering a new device annually, and that behaviour is what consumers have come to expect. In reality, there is absolutely no reason for these companies to produce a new phone every year, but it's all marketing and bluff to make one believe that they 'need' the highlight feature. Innovation as it has happened cannot continue to happen miraculously every year. That's not how life works. The smartphone industry is well matured now, and there is little more beyond camera improvements that can be done to radically improve said devices without changing the concept entirely, at which point it's no longer a smartphone.
The level of AI implementation on a phone will be the deal breake in future. I don't own an iPhone. Apple has the best hardware integration in the indistry - the iPhone and iPad can integrate via cable into a host of things, especially with musical instruments.
Leader makes a difference. Asian companies are coming out with foldable phones. This was in the talks for about 20 years. Flexible and foldable phones that look like papers
They forgot that HTC Tytn ii had full screen + keyboard - SUPERIOR. So did Motorola A820 3g - superior. Apple was saved by App store global developers (also on Android), not Apple developers. But Apple hype propaganda worked (in the West)
My last iPhone was the 6 and have been a happy Android fan since. If you love paying your yearly Apple tax, more power to you, but I left that walled garden of yearly minimal & incremental innovation. I have never been happier to choose when & what innovation I want to buy.
Apple sets a style, something for people to want. BUT the UNDERLYING TECHNOLOGY... isn't made by them in most cases. It is just that they are really good at making a product people want so it sells well. So I wouldn't call Apple INNOVATIVE, more... SMART. They know what their audience wants! They give it, at a huge price.
Tech companies should be forced to launch new products only once every 2 or 3 years. This will help reduce e-waste a lot. Plus companies should take second hand marketing into their own hands to ensure their products are recycled the right way
He didn't mention that apple has slowly been dipping its toes into the gaming industry. With the newest macs and some iPads being able to play current generation games.
I think the simple problem is the cost. An iPhone can be specd to cost more than a laptop! Their margins are massive. They could charge 50% less and still make billions.
Some wrong facts in this video. At 8:32 the problem is that M4 is only in iPad Pro 2024 so far. There's no MacBook Air M4. Also, iPhone 3G was not the first with App Store. It came to iPhone 1 at the same time as a system update. That was just a software related thing. 12:14 market cap is not the same thing as the richest companies. If you wanna show the richest companies then look at the balance sheet for Shareholder's Total Equity. That's how rich the companies are. So if you end the business and pay off all debts, sell all assets and see how much cash you got, that is how rich each company is. The market cap is just speculations made by investors based on estimates for future profits...
All smartphone companies are producing bi-fold models. Even the lowest-end Tecno in China has released a bi-fold with 12 GB RAM. Apple still sticks to the single screen model with 8 GB RAM. Nokia the second.

I’d have to disagree to quite a considerable extent here. It _is_ true that Apple has plenty of room for improvement when it comes to making the most out of their current technology, but with them you “pay a lot for very little” for a reason. The original Apple I computer actually cost thousands of dollars upon release-and all for bare-bones tasks such as reading and writing documents and playing the most rudimentary of video games: the text-based kind, if you get what I’m talking about. You and I especially could only imagine people complained even more about this factor than they do about Apple’s products today. And they’re not totally wrong; an average family household certainly couldn’t afford it! But this is where inflation actually saves the day in our case, as the latest iPhones cost around a thousand dollars-and yet this year, 2024, is _not_ 1976, even though in raw terms the two are and were priced similarly high. That’s because since then, the average family household has more cash on hand to spend with, and can therefore afford an iPhone 16 or 15 where they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to at all assuming life in the 1970s (and that the device itself somehow existed, of course). Not to mention that usually, to modify a device to your heart’s content, you’d have to tinker with the system internals themselves-an already risky move in and of itself especially for the uninitiated considering the risk of bricking your device entirely. But with Apple products, apps and even the built-in features fill the gaps for you. And there’s well more than plenty to tinker around with yourself to see which clicks with you best. And it’s not just limited to changing the style of your UI or doing difficult or otherwise-tedious iPhone tasks for you. You could restrict your own iPhone to ensure that your precious Screen Time doesn’t go off the rails, or a similar app could alter the screen, icon and menu animations altogether-without altering any of the standard textures if you’d please. The possibilities are all but endless-and with iOS, no software tampering is required! But hey, that’s literally just my two cents on the matter, and absolutely nothing more. Whether you agree or disagree, please feel free to like or dislike accordingly, and leave a reply if you wish to elaborate further on the details of your matter. Thanks.
8:42 I think Apple putting iPad OS on their iPad is a good thing if they put macOS in it it would have sucked as a tablet and macOS would have sucked (like Windows 8) but still now windows if you give me a windows 11 tablet it would not be as good as a iPad or it is the same case with a desktop OS desktop OS should be a OS and Tablet is a tablet and Samsung Dex is good btw.
This video makes it sound like all the innovation relating to mobile phones is coming from Apple. In truth virtually all the innovation has come from other manufacturerd and Apple has merely been playing catchup. For example Apple still haven't brought out a folding phone yet while others have been making them for years.
This is such an interesting title. The useless innovation described is to justify the subscription model we have all bought into. This is the era of the subscription. Even coffee is subscribed for. We used to be able to buy Office and/or it came on disks with the company. I saw a video on how far Adobe has gone with their subscription model which is akin to how virus manufacturers would not let you cancel. These subscription services are the bedrock for increased sales and profits virtually all technology companies strive for. Even car companies are muscling in on this with features missing if you do not adhere to a monthly payment. The answer is to buy shares in Apple or anyone else with whom you possess subscriptions to gain a share (back) of the bounty.

Usually by the 5th year the bugs are gone and I've never had security issues after updates stop so you should be able to get it to last 7 years. Old phones and tablets sometimes run slow because the OS or apps get more complicated over time and require more RAM, however the CPU and RAM in these flagships should future proof them. But I am sick of everyone thinking a phone is better than a computer, be it a laptop or a desktop, because I need it for REAL things, like SolidWorks and CNC things, which require REAL power and a REAL interface, unlike a phone.
isn't it extremely annoying & disappointing how Samsung never stops removing 1 or more features from their next Galaxy phone to make the functionality more tedious & stupid than the previous phone‽ I got the latest A-series phone (back in the 3rd Qtr. this year) then after noticing how many restrictions it stupidly has i returned it & switched to a "bring your own phone" -plan !
The Problem is that people don't realize that innovations are not something that can be mass produced yearly, they happen from time to time. Just because the first years of a product line where innovative doesn't mean that this certain product has or can make new innovations in the future every year. Unrealistic expectations, thats like being mad that new laptops from 2024 don't have any new innovations.

Respect to Sony for being the only sane manufacturer out there who stuck to its guns and showed respect for their customers. @@frankvuong1080 the "patent system" wasn't an issue until cheaper Chinese products started outclassing US products.
They will just make the Devices break more often

Manufacturers need to slow down the release to one new phone model every two years. It makes no longer any sense to make an annual release; the SoC especially can't improve that much in one year.
Also, Microsoft is forcing Windows users to abandon perfectly good computers which don't have a TPM-2 security module and can't run Windows 11. This incompatibility is intentional and unacceptable. I'm using my phone for 5+ years before buy a new
Large strides every year is an unrealistic and unnecessary expectation now that iPhones have become so powerful and durable that customers hold onto them for 3-6 years before upgrading.

This isn’t even a video worthy of the “Samsung fan boi”s”.
I wonder if Apple could switch to an 18 month release schedule, would also help polish their software.

Atleast it won't robbing us and won't slow down after an update.😂
The problem in the phone industry is they almost have reached the maximum limit on technology and truthfully there isn’t much more they can do to make cell phones anymore high tech than they are now or for the last 3-5 years not much in gains at all
The phone isn't the product - YOU ARE!
If Apple did not have serious competition they would probably limit security updates to two years.😂🤣
The biggest upgrade of phone are cameras for social media the rest is just the same.

What is stopping you now?
Save your hard earned money and look around properly.
Apple Pay was definitely innovative, especially for online ordering
Mobile 📱 phone technology reaches its ultimate place. No place of innovation left.

It is just that they are really good at making a product people want so it sells well.

Tech companies should be forced to launch new products only once every 2 or 3 years. This will help reduce e-waste a lot. Plus companies should take second hand marketing into their own hands to ensure their products are recycled the right way

The fact is Apple has already ran out of their ideas and innovations exhausted.
Thanks.
Why don't more White people use Android instead of iPhone? Have you ever seen a white girl or group of white girls all using Android?
