I drive a veloster n with performance package now. I used to own a 2017 civic si. I have three friends own gti, and I drive their car pretty regularly. I have to say, in my opinion, the veloster n is the best out of these three.
I own a si 20 I considered the veloster but didn't drive it they seem nice I wanted something for a daily driver looks good but not too much attention and with 2 kids I hesitate the 3 door thing
Hyundai a Decade Ago: "We are giving away free cars, anybody interested...anybody?" Hyundai 2021: "We did not appreciate you calling us a Honda ripoff, now eat this!"
The N is WAAAY above the Si and GTI Golf in terms of everything. They should have gone with just a Veloster Turbo or Turbo Ultimate which are more on par with the Si and Golf GTI
While I agree with your statement, they were gauging the group by price. That just goes to show how good a deal is for the N compared to a type R or Golf R.
I love my N best choice I could of made. I priced out each of these cars in 2018 I ended up waiting till 2019 to get my N and now two years of ownership I can say I am beyond happy with the N.
@@phantomsession9869 that's my worry, i would love to buy an N but Ik i can beat on a honda hard and it won't break or if i do its not always expensive.
was going to say that too. also... generally speaking, cars that are tuned at the ring are worse, not better. Well worse for the road, better for the track. The N is no exception. I have one, a 2020. I love it, but holy shit is it stiff, even with my downsized 18" winters.
@@wdnalo that’s not really my point. The suspension is way too stiff for regular shitty American roads, even in normal mode. That’s undebatable. Also, shoulda got the manual 🤷
Is the N your first car? Have you driven literally anything else? It's very stiff, idk how anyone could not see it that way. After the car is warmed up I typically tool around in N Custom with suspension in normal. It isn't undrivable. I agree, people over-exaggerate how stiff it is, but telling people it isn't a rough ride isn't fair either.
@@philcollins1305 exactly, veloster turbo competes with gti and si with much lowered price, same applies to veloster N to golf r and type r. the logic compete within same price range is just to highlight veloster N to lower tier competitions.
The Turbo would compete with the Si in performance but it's significantly less powerful than the GTI, and the N was basically created to beat the GTI, not the R.
@@TheStigHCE09 The Veloster n does compete with the Type R according to Car and driver. 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. The Veloster n DCT. www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a35031677/2021-hyundai-veloster-n-by-the-numbers/
I bought a Mk7 in 2014 and it was the market leader at that time. Since then, VW has basically done nothing but pull cost out and stuff screens in. These days, Hyundai is absolutely killing it and I would buy a Veloster all day but man do I wish it had a sunroof.
From an engineering standpoint the sunroof would add weight and change the balance of the car/topheaviness...you always want the weight to be down low not up high.
I picked the Veloster N over the Civic Type R. Better driver fit, better exhaust note, just as well handling in corners, better customization for performance. It's definitely cheaper inside but very comfortable and easy to use. Also the 2020 Type Rs are marked up to $50k and I got my 2020 VN performance pack for $28,500
@@buildmorefarms1007 Helluva deal! So far I just have a catless downpipe (Depo has them now! USA made and fast ship!) and an air intake and basically tied back and forth with the local Type R owner and still under $30k for me lol Definitely wasn't going to finance $48k for a Civic (would have got a G70 Genesis in that range for v6 twin turbo)
Everyone says the GTI is boring but I think it looks very sharp in person. Def the best looking of the bunch. Not everyone wants an over styled monstrosity. But the Veloster does seem like the most fun.
I loved my 2010 GTI. Sold it a year after the powertrain warranty was over because I knew stuff would start failing on the engine. I did update the tensioner though, which made it an easy sell- that and the young German guy who was trying to find a 4 door with a stick.
As an owner of a 2021 MT I agree 100%. It looks good in videos but when you see it in person its a lot more aggressive and the paint really pops. The round VW body lines are not nearly as attractive and the Civic SI is a great car, but not even in the same league as the VN. I grew up on VW cars and was a big fanboi, but if you take an objective look at all 3 cars in this review, the only thing that holds the Veloster N back is the Hyundai branding. Its the best car hands down. Unreal handling and acceleration. Hyundai clearly gave this car their very best and it shows. Its 50hp above the golf and 70hp over the SI with far better handling and ride quality. If you take brand bias out of the equation its a no brainer.
I had a Saturn 3-door many years ago. Remember those? I loved that car. It worked flawlessly for the 7 years I owned it. It had a manual transmission and got 40 mpg -- in the 1990s! Imagine that!
I have a 2020 VN (performance pack) I can’t sing it’s praises any more.. it’s amazing. It’s handling is out of this world. Do a few bolt ons and get a tune and all of a sudden it’s out of this class and into the CTR/ Golf R class.. and even stock it’s damn close!
Just about a year left of the lease on my '19 Civic hatch and I've fallen in love with it truly. Not a manual but pop the lever down into S on the highways and zip around. The CVT isn't the greatest but I know its why I'm getting better MPG. My partner is looking to get a manual and I might put the Si on top of the list. Civics are wonderful.
I just love the way you guys mentioned the Fiesta ST in this review many times, I go way back to your Tiny Turbos, and how impressed you were about it. I have a 14 ST on a stage two Cobb tune, short shift kit, sticky Mitchell tires, it has 98,000 miles on it, I’m on my 6th set of tires, I’m 73 years young and love driving on 3 wheels. The Fiesta Flash 🤙🏼🍺🍺🍺
Selling my 7.5 GTI and upgrading to the N is the best move I ever made. Performance wise, fun wise, and tech wise the N blows the GTI out of the water. I’m not sure what the GTI is exactly better for. I loved it owned it for four years, Had an ECU tune but I knew I was buying the N as soon as I got in the car and put performance mode on.
You also forgot the one other thing it takes 1st place in. It is by far the most boring out of the 3 and i think the most boring out of all the hot hatches
@@Phantaamboring because they don't look like a 14 year old drew them while daydreaming in class? They N and SI definitely have that boy racer look but I guess that excites some people🤷♂️ the N is a sweet car tho besides the looks of the back end
these were the 3 cars i tossed and turned on many sleepless nights.. i came from a 2009 toyota yaris, i wanted something fun without going full 50K+ sports car.. i chose a 2020 civic si coupe and have been pretty happy.. huge step up over my 09 yaris.. great video!
I hope the USDM GR Corolla is as good as the GR Yaris appears to be based on reviews. If it is, ill be very interested. If not, the Veloster N is at the top of my list.
I'd probably still get the GTI. Sure, it's maybe not quite as exciting in some ways, but it fits long torso'd individuals like myself quite well. The seats are great. It's not very attention-grabbing (I prefer the sleeper) and I just like how they drive from the daily driver standpoint. Light clutch, nice, slick shifter. Surprising amounts of low end torque for a 2L engine. VERY surprising. You can just about drive it like a diesel, which is rather nice for the daily driver situation. And that fancy limited slip when you REALLY try to find the limits, not the 7/10ths driving going on here, makes a world of difference. If you were to truly try to find the limits of adhesion around a corner in these cars, while on the throttle, you might see where a real difference has been made with the GTI. There's a reason Clarkson bought a Mk7 GTI a few years ago.
I’ve owned a GTI, Wolfsburg Jetta, Civic Si, and many other cars… the Veloster N is the enthusiast car of the 3 in this video….. it just flat out is….. it’s fun sounding, fun to drive, track ready, and priced to compete….. N hands down …..
I think it would be a huge indictment of N if the Veloster wasn't a stand out here. Hyundai was going after the Type R and trying to undercut the price. The Turbo would be intended competitor
@@Tool0GT92 the SI isnt being sold for this model year and the 2021 N has the PP standard raising the price to 32K MSRP. Still the best deal in town hands down.
@@Tool0GT92 3 months ago isnt today or tomorrow and youd have to wait for the 2022 model year leaving only the accord sport to compete and they are both 32k while the Veloster N is lighter and still has more power and is only slightly less practical and it has the 6 speed manual standard.
I have a MK6 GTI (owned it for 7 years) and just spend a month in a Civic SI through Turo. I think the Civic is definitely more 'darty', but the ride (both comfort and handling) is better on the GTI. Every roadtrip (longer than 1 hour) in the SI absolutely battered us. We have done 12+ hour roadtrips in the GTI and still felt comfortable after the trip.
Like he said... The GTI stock isn't the most fun to drive at first and not the most powerfull too... But man when you start to mod it.... I know most people won't do it and i get it it's expensive and everything.... I own one and was a bit disapointed when i first got it then i trown some coil, swaybar, downpipe and a tune... that change the car so much... it's sad to see all those review and everybody is placing the gti last cause i feel like it deserve better... it's such a great car and once you start putting a little bit of money on it you will see all the potential it have...
@@jponz85 what I'm saying is the GTI can be at 350whp with just downpipe and tune. U can't get to 350 on the N without changing out the turbo and even when u do change it out the limit is 375. The GTI u change out the turbo your at 550+whp. The gti is in a different league in terms of tuning and mods. If ur going to keep it stock yes the N is better. But if your modding there is no competition.
I drove these 3 cars multiple times, researched aftermarket for both, and took cars home for the weekend to see if I would like driving them. I ended up with an Si sedan. It was overall the best car for me and what I am doing with it. It destroys curvy roads, and if you’re willing to put about a grand into it then it makes more impressive power.
Just wait into fuel is in your oil. You'll be trading your SI immediately. Go look it up. The 1.5l is a pile of shit. I have a 2020si and I have put an exhaust and a intercooler. Still weak.
@@Whileweweresinners An intercooler and exhaust will do nothing for power, I have a 2020 Si too in pearl white. The fuel in the oil stuff is overblown. Its a good daily when I want to keep the GT350 clean.
The tenth gen SI is definitely more of a ‘momentous car’ than its other two competitors shown here. Great commuter too. Though I own a golf 7R and do also like the similar in DNA GTI. But I’m a touch partial. I def think the Veloster N strikes a compelling balance and I’m looking forward to checking one out. I also think it’s unique enough while maintaining a level of class and marurity fit for many folks’ different strokes.
I like my MK 7.5 GTI Autobahn Pure white. I think it’s fun, and is very refined and practical. I guess that would be considered “boring” to some people but it has decent cargo and can hold 4 regular sized passengers. If I were to trade in, I’d probably get a Veloster N or Elantra N one day.
The n is a civic type r competitor, think it is a more fun then the r but the r is faster... But mark up kills the r for me, not gonna pay 45k for a civic. Now 33 for a n and put 6k in it to make it faster then a civic... You betcha.
@@andys6385 Yes sir. You'll eventually need a clutch with this tune though - the stocker cannot handle the extra torque. Regardless it's still a HUGE improvement and the car rips if you drive it right in order to not fry the clutch.
VN wins, more fun, faster, sounds better, best performance. Keep in mind this car was 2 seconds faster around a track than the golf R with AWD and more power when throttle house tested it.
@@cayman9873 it says VN as in Veloster N. Not VW. Then again as an Australian I see VN and I think of what is arguably the worst Holden Commodore ever made.
I drive an 18 si and it really is disapointing, but after a flash it really wakes everything up and is just fast enough to be fun now. They really put a limit on the car from the factory.
Also if you want to be happy in TRAFFIC (who cares about this when buying a manual?) there's an automatic Veloster N for 2021 with a DUAL WET CLUTCH system that is fast and smooth as butter and no manual clutch to hold down
I have a 2019 manual base gti and man, does that car have some spunk, but its an incredibly practical car. 30 mpg city but it has tons of room and some exciting torque. Its the perfect car for me. I stan GTIs.
I agree. An exhaust, intake, and a decent tune and these things are PERFECT daily drivers. I got a 17 mk7 manual with the plaid seats last year and just did a FEW things to it, and I’m never getting rid of this car. It’s literally perfect. Wow, they were really hating on the GTI this episode. I have a Mk6, and even compared to the Civic Si I test drove, it's buckets more fun both in straight lines and corners. I will say though, that Veloster N is definitely doing something right, I hope it breeds more competition in the hot-hatch category.
@@awesomethebunny you didn't drive a si then, the civic si doesn't come in automatic. You probably drove a civic touring or any of the civic hatch models that comes with a engine similar to the si, but very different in terms of parts.
Leaving out the whole Civic Si "automatic" malarkey (I'm not from America so I don't know anything about the Si), the GTI goes too far in being a jack of all trades, master of none. I've driven Mk7.5s like this test car and it's definitely more fun than a Golf R (I can feel the hate coming but it simply is) but when compared to cars that branch out a little towards the power and handling, it feels pretty darn dull. Apparently this new Mk8 is even worse because they've now taken out the GTI's USP of it being the best daily and made it worse with a lower quality interior and screens instead of buttons.
I had an 08' Civic Si with the 2.0L NA engine with VTEC and 8K rpm redline. It was a fantastic car - that engine didn't have much torque, but it was special. The transmission and short-throw shifter were also great. It's sad that we'll never have cars like that again.

I have the 2022 N DCT. The argument that it sucks in traffic is hilarious because the smiles per dollar you get with the N is unbeatable. It is so far above the other two cars as to be in a different realm. It is a legit track car. The warranty is not voided by track use. This is an unfair comparison to Volks and Honda.

The NGS button is hilarious fun and all out, the DCT transmission shifts so hard it slaps you into the seat. Is the exhaust excessively loud and rumbly? Yes. Does it sound fantastic? Also yes. Is it as fast as a corvette or Supra? No. Is it insanely fast for having 275 horsepower. Absolutely. Can it out corner damn near any muscle car? Yup. Comically so. The Si doesn't even compete with the N I'm sorry lol. The N is just on a whole other level when comparing against the other two. Incredible value for the money. Yea sure I'm bias bc I own one lol, but I have driven and test drove Alot of cars and this one is just a gem. Hyundai's warranty just can't be beat on top of them including Free 3yr Maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, etc.). My other car (Srt-4 in great condition| '05\70k mi.) has been sitting Alot more now since owning the N. Which says something bc I absolutely love my Srt4.
This is what im struggling with. The N is supposed to compete with the Civic R. It probably loses that comparison but atleast that comparison makes sense. I recently bought the Forte GT and considered the Civic Si before buying. This is where I believe the Civic Should be compared.
The N is the oddball here. It fits directly between the GTI and Golf R as well as the SI and Type R. It doesn't really have any true, direct competitors. The Focus ST would have been the closest to it if they were still on sale. Price wise, the N competes more closely with what we reviewed it with.
The only problem I see with the N is the resale and longevity.. Hyundai in canada lose their value faster than almost any other brand. The N will obviously hold more value for longer.. but look at what 6v Genesis's are selling for now.. its rough
After driving Mercedes cars for 30+ years I bought a used 2010 GTI 6sp Manual. Lots of fun in the mountains with three pedals. Sold it and got a brand new 2017 GTI Sport. Same engine as in this review and great auto transmission. More power, more fun with LSD and much better headlights. Getting traction on take off is a problem with FWD. GTI has wind noise on highway. Sold it. Got a 2015 Mercedes C400 3.0L Twin Turbo, 329HP, 354ft/lbs torque, 4Matic AWD, 0-60mph 4.7s, much quieter on highway and everyday driving, ECO and Comfort modes get up to 29mpg. Sport mode is a awesome. Sport Plus is don't-mess-with-me mode holding high revs. Nice Burmeister sound. C400 had it all for me: luxury, sport, performance, fuel economy and AWD. Good prices on used and certified cars. No major problems in 2.5 years now. Yes, maintenance can be high after warranty expires but there's a price to pay for everyday satisfaction at all levels. Best thing about the C400 is the absence of excessive negative camber on front wheels, which ate up my tires at half life on my E55. Also made sure not to get the adaptive dampers so there's less to go bad.
I think that Hyundai will appeal to a larger segment of the market with the upcoming Elantra & Kona N. Especially with the eight speed dual clutch. Look forward to your review of those cars.
2020 Veloster N w/PP. After over three years this car is still the bomb. I have done some minor mods, but this is the best stock car I have ever owned.
I love the Velocitor and Si, but as a adult professional, they are just a little to teen racer for me. I love the subdued look of the GTI, and the HUUUUUGE aftermarket that can turn it into a very unassuming monster.
I think the one thing that was left out as an "all-rounder" was the fact the GTI interior feels more premium, especially in the SE and Autoban trims. Sure it's not the best for canyon carving compared to these two, but most people (especially in the US) are spending most of their time in traffic and on the highway. The GTI in comfort mode at highway speed is a dream.
As a veloster owner , buy il if you like the driving dynamics , but expect cheap paint , rattling noise from literally everywhere and many visits to your local dealership
The paint is not the greatest. I've had no issues with rattles just unplug the sound generator. That thing is annoying. I've only gone to the dealer for oils changes and one battery change. No other issues for me. The N has been very reliable and I drive it hard
@@miguelfragoso7023 he probably has a 7 year old Veloster lmao. Hyundai improved so much since the first Veloster came out. I own a N and the build quality is amazing

something interesting about the velociraptor is that the RHD models have the drivers door still bigger, so they have to make two completely different chassis for the RHD and LHD versions
You know, the two different looks on each side sounds weird, but when you think about it, no one will ever be able to see both sides at the same time...goes along with my idea as a kid when hubcaps were big, that you can have two different sets of hubcaps to give off different looks on each side of the car! Love it!
Topher just reviewed the DCT Veloster N and seemed very impressed, preferred it more than the manual, which was a surprise. Great video work here, makes me homesick for Cali.
Never driven a Si or N, but own a Autobahn DSG GTi ( Outside Sales - 18K mi/yr commute) for the last 5 years. Added stage one cobb tune to dsg and motor and I'm plenty happy with how this thing comes alive when I want to thrash it around through some canyons on my way home ( Pre Pandemic) or running around late at night. Getting close to 100k mi on odo so looking for next commuter beast...feels like a waste getting a new GTi or R...maybe I'll just keep it going. MK7 platform with zero major issues so far. Just a new battery and top off the coolant once on top of routine dsg maintenance and oil changes.
If I had to pick one..... tough choice. Probably the civic si. But I would be modifying it a little bit. I’d rather just keep my ND Miata for fun driving and my pickup truck for work/family duty.
hey guys,i have to totally agree with paul, you can do the sport driving amd the boring stuff with ease in the hyundai and you would not notice the 4k difference plus you have something very unique , my problem is the brand identity honda and vw have history in motorsport bit i did buy the hyundai after all and i love it even more now
I agree. But then again, the N is about the same price as the Golf. They just couldn't use the civic Type R because it would be too much, so they went with the lower priced SI instead. But if you were just comparing the two, the Veloster turbo would make more sense.
I have a 2018 10th Gen Civic Si Coupe. Tuned the rev hang out, of course, for those who will not cross that threshold, it will feel strange all the time.
The Veloster N is in such a weird gap, it’s realistically better than the vw gti, veloster turbo 1.6t, Honda Civic si category, but it’s just not up there yet in the type r, golf r, subaru Sti, it’s in between but just under the higher category
Honda for me as well. Here's why: Veloster is a new kid in the game that's a tryhard. Over time, once the excitement clears away you'll start noticing its cons. Golf is the oldest and it feels like it's aimed at people who grew up in 80's. Nothing wrong in that, but that screams viagra to me. Civic has the essence of japanese thinking. Subtle and balanced. You won't get rewarded with everything right away, you need to go deeper. Long lasting appreciation takes time and effort, but it's worth it. Oh, and gen X is the LAST generation of petrol-only powered Civic. Gen XI will be a hybrid only, just like current new Jazz. Which is why gen X are selling like hot cakes, atm.
It’s interesting how the Veloster N is always compared to the GTI and Si, not the R’s. It’s their top model, with Veloster Turbo and base Veloster below it. It sort of straddles the line between the middle and top model of other brands, both performance and price wise
Finally a video where the Veloster N isent up against a type R, a golf R and a focus RS. Cars way above the N’s price range. A regular Veloster turbo probably would be more equal to the si and gti though.
I have an si coupe because it's a really comfy daily driver with its light clutch and it comes with a sunroof. The veloster N exhaust sounds amazing and I'd definitely consider it if the entire interior wasn't hard plastic.
I had the same experience with the Veloster N. It really is an old school take on hot hatches where the goal is simply cheap speed. Performs like a $36k car, interior like a $20k car.
Of course it makes sense to compare stock to stock for these videos, but the VW does have warranty keeping tuning available from APR that dealerships will support and/or install. It's called APR+ and milder than a typical "stage 1" tune. It puts the power more on par with the Veloster. I don't think Honda or Hyundai have that.
Hyundai seems to not care about simple piggybacks and very simple bolt ons like intakes and exhausts. Plus, they have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on the car. One of the other big channels did a video comparing a CTR and a VeloN, both modded. The VeloN was faster than the CTR on their reach driving.
Surprised you found the Civic to have the best ride of the bunch, I would have guessed GTI all day. I had an Mk7 R with the 6 speed, and loved it. Replaced the boat anchor 19" blingy Cadiz wheels with some lightweight 18s and Pilot Super Sports, and it was great. Definitely my favorite-looking car of the bunch as well, but the Velostar would be my pick for sure for something "fun". I've driven the Focus and Fiesta ST and they're both a blast, with the smaller Fiesta being by far the best of the two. But, how is the Velostar "only a little more money" than the Civic? That sounds like the logic I'd use-- "If I wanted to save money, I wouldn't be buying a car at all". But from a consumer advice standpoint, $4k on such an inexpensive car is a lot of money-- 16% is nothing to sneeze at.
I’m shopping for a fun but economical car and is considering the FIST…in my area they are 20-23k for a one owner low miles 2018-2019 (I’m too used to having a backup camera lol) and I have other bigger cars that me and my wife share What do you think about that price though
Im glad i went with my civic si. The mpg is amazing i average 37 mpg even with a ktuner tune at 19.5 psi. Its a blast to drive and it will be reliable with it being a honda
@@klasseact6663 Yeah. I understand what you are saying. It's just that when auto-journalists compare these cars they are more focus on price point then performance because these cars are often cross shopped and price is a huge factor. I also think Golf R and Type R would be more fair match to N in terms of performance but Type R is hard to get under 40k and Golf R is already mid 40k car. You can fetch a well optioned Veloster N for under 33k and that's usually the price of GTI with SE trim. I agree that Veloster Turbo or Elantra GT would be better performance match for Civic Si, both of those are still 3k or more cheaper than base Civic Si.
If you're watching this and you really like the Si but are concerned about the lack of power and "rev hang" (and it IS a thing). Then budget for an extra $1000 CDN and get yourself a KTuner and Phearables tune. It takes away the rev hang and give you about a 40hp bump in the "stage 2" tune (which is adjustable on the fly). I would reserve "stage 3" (60hp bump) for highway roll racing unless you want to replace the clutch early. I drove both the GTI and Si (which I own) and I'm shocked they didn't mention the fact that the GTI is much quieter. My biggest complaint about the Si would be that its a little noisy (just general road noise) - especially when compared to something as refined as the GTI. The GTI was definitely quicker but it was about an extra $100 a month to lease when I bought in 2019 (and thats a 2019 Si btw in this video). For me I was already returning a Civic LX and looking to move up in power and so with the loyalty discount and preferred rate it was just too good a savings to pass up. The Veloster N wasn't out I don't think when I was looking but that 3 door just does not work for me with 2 kids. I did drive the Elantra N (?) which was nice - good power and really probably a nicer interior than the Si but it just didn't feel "special" enough in terms of the handling and driving dynamics.
"N" in Veloster N is not actually means Nürburgring. It actually means "Namyang" in S.Korea where Hyundai R&D their cars. However, since so many people thinks that "N" means Nürburgring I guess Hyundai just went with that.
@@TheStigHCE09 Actually it's 3. "Namyang" in S. Korea, "Nürburgring" and shape of chicane from racetracks. However, it's initial meaning was "Namyang" first, than "Nürburgring" was added soon after because they have Tech Centre to test their high performance variants there.
The civic ABSOLUTELY fits people 6ft and beyond. I’m 6’ 4” and I have plenty of room even in the back seat. I have a sport with the k20c2 2L NA so hopefully it’ll last a long time.
This video is great but I drove all three and owned the N, my dad owned the Veloster N too, there’s no other hot hatch that feels like a wooden roller coaster from the factory like the N, it has a steering ratio 14:1 which is highly competive against all cars including hypercars so for the money, you never ever loose when you buy a full on N product

I mean, full bolt on, IE, front pipe, down pipe, full exhaust, intercooler, clutch etc.. along with a ktuner e-tune . If you care at all about driving dynamics the Veloster N blows the other two out of the water. Also has the best looks by far. It's not even close.

The N will obviously hold more value for longer.. but look at what 6v Genesis's are selling for now.. its rough

Best thing about the C400 is the absence of excessive negative camber on front wheels, which ate up my tires at half life on my E55. Also made sure not to get the adaptive dampers so there's less to go bad.

@@hitmanhart6275 that sucks but I think you are in the minority. Paint is mediocre but you can’t expect Genesis paint on Hyundais. It’s still much better than the Honda Civic I owned. I’ve had no problem with my car driving it hard every time I get in it.
something interesting about the velociraptor is that the RHD models have the drivers door still bigger, so they have to make two completely different chassis for the RHD and LHD versions
Tuning out the "starting vibration reduction" in the GTI with an OBD11 makes a world of a difference... no more torque management in 1st and 2nd gear.
Unfortunately not an option in the 2019, there is no starting vibration reduction.
You know, the two different looks on each side sounds weird, but when you think about it, no one will ever be able to see both sides at the same time...goes along with my idea as a kid when hubcaps were big, that you can have two different sets of hubcaps to give off different looks on each side of the car! Love it!
Nah, I will stick with my mk7 rides awesome and a few mods thing flies
Slapped an EQT tune on my 17 GTi, things now a rocket. Gotta shop aftermarket when buying cars, or forever stay stock.
Topher just reviewed the DCT Veloster N and seemed very impressed, preferred it more than the manual, which was a surprise. Great video work here, makes me homesick for Cali.
0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The Sonata N-Line 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds & 5-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Hyundai is built some fast cars.
Ford performance cars are in the graveyard...sad they discontinued the Focus ST and RS and Fiesta ST...RIP Ford.
*in US.
In the US. They are alive n well in Europe n other countries.
The plus side to that is the used market is filled with great deals of the Fiesta and Focus ST.
@@bt7482 Maybe but Im not seeing many used ones for sale.
Just totalled my SE Fiesta (not at fault rear ended). Loved that car so much I'm tempted to find an ST Fiesta or Focus (or...RS🤔).
GTI hands down. I bought it for the aftermarket support.
If I had to pick one..... tough choice. Probably the civic si. But I would be modifying it a little bit. I’d rather just keep my ND Miata for fun driving and my pickup truck for work/family duty.
I want an ND2!
I went with a 2020 GTI Autobahn 6MT over the Si and Veloster N.
Traded in my 2015 Autobahn MT for a 2020 SE MT last month. Absolutely LOVE the MK7-7.5
hey guys,i have to totally agree with paul, you can do the sport driving amd the boring stuff with ease in the hyundai and you would not notice the 4k difference plus you have something very unique , my problem is the brand identity honda and vw have history in motorsport bit i did buy the hyundai after all and i love it even more now
Brand history comes with time. Hyundai is raking up lot of wins in Motorsport.
Isn't the N above the Si-tier? I mean the base Veloster Turbo is what rivals the Si
I thought the Veloster N was the competitor for the Civic Type R
It is
type R is almost 10k more
It isn't. The Type R has a fairly large performance gap over the N. The Type R competes with the Focus RS, Golf R, and STi.
@@nathanbowman5940 yup and thats the target for the veloster N. Type r be selling toooooo high of a price. The dealers are the problem
The Veloster N is in such a weird gap, it’s realistically better than the vw gti, veloster turbo 1.6t, Honda Civic si category, but it’s just not up there yet in the type r, golf r, subaru Sti, it’s in between but just under the higher category
Saw this video when I was deciding between the three, ended up with the N. Love this car so much.
Honda for me as well. Here's why:
Veloster is a new kid in the game that's a tryhard.
You probably own Honda's
How ever the N wins . Nice exhaust ,60.000 bumper to bumper ,and free oil change for 3 years , wow Love my Veloster N performance package.
It’s interesting how the Veloster N is always compared to the GTI and Si, not the R’s. It’s their top model, with Veloster Turbo and base Veloster below it. It sort of straddles the line between the middle and top model of other brands, both performance and price wise
Its because of the price. Type R and Golf R are at least 6 grand more, Golf is like 10 grand more
Have you been to the dealer lately?
Golf R and Type R is AT LEAST $10K more than the Veloster N
And no I'm not a Hyundai fanboy I have MK7.5 GTI
Agreed Veloster N may not be the fastest car but Wow the Fun factor makes this car really really gooooood
Love my '16 GTI autobahn wouldn't trade it for either of those choices. Just all around German perfection. Add a tune and it has plenty!
you both just made my decision for an N much easier. thank you!
The GTI's versatility if you have a family cannot be overlooked. It's why I chose it.
I chose the Veloster N. I am an empty nester so my car has to fit my wife and my 'cello. Everytime I drive it I have a smile on my face.
@@doctorferdinand1003 it is a 35k car now. The interior of 2021 is much better with the new bucket seats and new infotainment screen.
*takes the top trim of the Hyundai and not the top trims of the other 2 but still praises it like it’s better* 😂😂😂
Well now it’s the only one they got...
It’s a comparison of price, u can’t put the civic type R in that group, it’s just short of 42K.
I would've never considered getting FWD until the Veloster N came out. Now the Elantra N is coming out with 4 doors!
There is also a Kona N, but I'm guessing with the added weight it won't be as entertaining as the Veloster N
@@bt7482 definately a compromise for people who need the extra room or to trick their wife
Light weight wheels can make a difference! Smart!
I’m shopping for a fun but economical car and is considering the FIST…in my area they are 20-23k for a one owner low miles 2018-2019 (I’m too used to having a backup camera lol) and I have other bigger cars that me and my wife share
What do you think about that price though
Veloster N was the most raw, but I went UG Rabbit in the end and the car was very different after I upgraded the tires.
Love my GTI
Im glad i went with my civic si. The mpg is amazing i average 37 mpg even with a ktuner tune at 19.5 psi. Its a blast to drive and it will be reliable with it being a honda
The whole video sounded like that one Tire Rack ad because they used the same music 😂
GTI least engaging, but best looking by far.
“Now with more Nazi’s”. Lol.
Should've done a test on the 2020 SI. The shorter final drive ratio wakes it up a little. The refresh was nice.
Why didn't they pick the Veloster Turbo then?
It would be an easy win for the Civic Si
Price
@@kkmaxg8543 right but performance would've been more fair in the comparison. Kinda like how the N, Type R are matched,.the N has less.
@@kkmaxg8543 I love my Elantra sport and it has a JUN B.L. axle-back and SXTH Element CPLT intake and with these mods it's just about perfect😎
It's both.
Would've been cool to see you guys in the new DCT N! Enjoyed both of your inputs/opinions 👍
Here's a 1 year review of the DCT..
The transmissions are exploding.. stick with the manual version. Lmao
The civic only comes in manual so it’s only fair they were all manual. Plus, you know.
Slap a tune on the Si; no more rev hang and you’re up at the same power levels as the GTi and closer to the N
A hondata E-tune and still be $4k less than either one of those with about 240-250hp at the wheels.
@@joelopez5018 Base N is 250hp. Performance pack and it's 275. Slap a tune and it's 350.
@@jeremyhenry3126 wow, 75hp from just a tune huh? Ummm no.
@@joelopez5018 Umm. No. Not from just a tune. You have to go through SXTH and get the bigger intercooler. Downpipes. Bigmouth ram air. And send in the turbo to get bored out. Then tune it for that on the 93 octane tune through the piggyback hooked up to the OBD 2. Sorry I didn't mention that. I'm scatter brained man. ADD.
@@jeremyhenry3126 now I’m not saying the veloster N isn’t a good car, it’s a great car no doubt. But if you think about the civic si with amount of aftermarket support that it has, it’s absolutely no wonder why it’s a popular platform. I mean, full bolt on, IE, front pipe, down pipe, full exhaust, intercooler, clutch etc.. along with a ktuner e-tune . With about $6-7k you’re easily going to make 320-350whp on a car that weighs 2800-2900 pounds.
Also the Veloster with performance package (the 275bhp version) is NOT an eDiff as you described. Yes It's electronically controlled but it is indeed a mechanical Limited Slip Differential, not just brake based like the old Focus STs and many hatches are (and the base model is)
