The BEST leather for the upper is shell cordovan. Will last for ever, takes a brilliant shine. Yes, Goodyear self construction, full leather lining, leather soles and combination heels. And keep them in FULL wooden shoe trees.
I'm a shoemaker, and what i usually do is a goodyear welted construction and a made to order leather shoes. What he shared in this video is actually a legit information :)
I used to be a Johnston & Murphy, Allen Edmonds, and Nettleton guy. Well after discovering Beckett Simonon, I said goodbye to J&M; AE could be next. BS has so much style.
1. Upper quality & calf leather lining 2. Sewn leather outsole 3. 2-3mm rubber sheet on the front area of the sole 4. 4-5mm rubber end layer on heel. Total leather outsole and heel construction is all nice and beautiful but only for red carpet and car to office use.
I love my Florsheim Kenmoor wingtip oxford shoes. They never out of style. My father wore the same ones back in the 1960's. The shoes are built like a tank and had them resoled 4 times.
i buy my shoes directly from independent producers and they cost me about $70, i noticed beckettsimonnon shoes are made with argentinian leather, mine are made with mexican leather, their quality is great and they cost me much less, i'm lucky i guess.
Beckett Simonon is made in Portugal, with Blake Stitch, and retails for 300 USD. For 252 USD you can pick up a pair of mainline "Barker" goodyear welted shoes made in England all day everyday, which has by far superior quality and craftsmanship than say Allen Edmonds. For the 200 USD clearance price of Beckett Simonon, you could pick up a pair of discounted "Herring" which is also made in the UK, plus a pair of shoe trees and a shoe polishing kit. There is really no contest here. As a rule of thumb, shoe quality-wise England>Spain>Portugal=US. Alden is an exception.
sorry- Completly subjective to say England is best quality shoes. Shoes made in mallorca are stellar. English shoes are BORING in terms of style. They are classic for sure. TLB Mallorca is a great brand, goodyear costruction and the Artista line is the best value in GY welted shoes. And don't forget Carlos Santos from Portugal. Amazing shoes.
I bought two pair of Beckett Simonon a year ago, the Dean Oxford and the Wright Austerity Oxford. I like the style and quality of the shoes, but unfortunately they run very narrow and I have been having difficulty breaking them in. I don't think they will ever be a comfortable shoe to wear, so I will not be a repeat Beckett Simonon customer which saddens me since I had high expectations for the brand.
Interesting concept, thank you for the explanation. IMHO they may benefit from investing in more lasts in oddball sizes. Wouldn't really cost them much since they only make shoes to order anyway. I wear a 15, which makes them a non-starter for me. Again, thank you. Hope they expand their product line in the future.
I agree. I wear a size 14 (or really a 13.5 depending on the shoe), and it was only until the last 10 years that I've been able to find shoes that fit me--your shoe shopping must have been even tougher. Yes, it's a shame they don't carry 15's now.
Thanks Anthony! I appreciate the kind words. Yes, I've been really happy with my Beckett Simonon shoes. I bought an additional pair of chukkas after this sponsorship.
the problem with good quality shoes is that 1. yes, they can be repaired 2. they can come back worse than before with improper repair 3. number 2 happens 90% of the time. So good quality shoes require good quality cobblers. They still make good quality shoes but good quality cobblers come in very short supply these days. This is the reason if you own good expensive shoes, buy cobbler tools and supplies to do the repairs yourself. It is quite simple. I have some very nice and expensive English balmorals come back with low quality repairs.
No how no way I'm becoming my own cobbler. AE will do it right plus take most creases out of the uppers while making them look new again. But, they only offer that on AE's. $150 for the resole, cork midsole, shoe trees, felt shoe bags and some shoe cream, I think.
Any cobbler seems few and far between; however, sending by mail can be a rather simple solution. Just requires research. There are many and found one option today on UA-cam that’s seems very capable... Bedo’s Leatherworks. Very impressive. Check out his channel.
erm, GYW shoes are not THAT easy to repair, and if you as a beginner fuck up the welt you are in big, big trouble. Blake construction requires a special sewing machine. I take it that way you mean proper repair beyond patching up a heel or a hole in the middle of the sole.
AE’s are taken back to the store, sent back to WI, repaired thoroughly in house on the same last it was made on, uppers tightened and lubed, and sent back. I will be investing in a couple pair of these come April. I’m cheap, but you HAVE to quantify what quality means when determining cost. $70 shoes that last 6months at best? Or $300 plus re-sole job ($125ish) around midway for 10 years of wear. Easy math. Plus, a shoe like AE are actually much easier on your body. They won’t feel like it at first, but your feet, knees, hips and back will thank you a couple weeks into them.
The problem with BS is you have to order, wait, then see if they fit and return. Why not buy a quality shoe made in Middleboro Massachusetts, ALDEN. All top quality construction and materials and they are available in several lasts and retailers here in the US to try on and purchase
My position is that any company like Thursday, Beckett, acemarks, or any other mid range shoe isn’t work the money. Pay the extra 100 dollars to AE or To Boot for a quality shoe that lasts a life time when properly cared for. None of those companies come close to the leather quality of AE.
Hey Rizal, that's tough. I'm not sure. I feel like everyone's feet are different, and I didn't really get into this in the video, but each shoe company uses different molds called "lasts" (maybe you've seen them: basically just wooden molds that looks like feet). So it really depends on the manufacturer and how their lasts fit your feet. I would try a few different brands if you can (in store if needed), to see which brands fit you best
Hey Kyle. Kudos to the detailed explanation. I just ordered a shoe from Beckett Simonon. Thoughts on how long it might take for me to get the shoe ? Thanks
Hey Porselvam, thanks so much! I believe the average time is about 6-8 weeks. But I suspect it may depend on the shoe. Did they mention timing when you ordered the shoes?
Kinda binge watched all your videos. The distilled man had definitely made me better man .. Excellent content.. Spreading the word about your channel to my work mates. Appreciate your hard work putting together your videos. 👍
Northampton in the UK makes the best shoes in the world. There are 19 shoe factories. 10 have factory shops where you can buy seconds for nearly half price. Only the factory quality inspector would be able to tell you why they are "imperfects" . Here is some information about the Northampton shoe factory shops and how to do a tour of them :www.before-n-after.co.uk/visit-northampton-factory-shops-introduction-defender-motorhome-rustproofing-visitor-attractions.html
Just a question do you know anything about Vero Cuoio high ankle shoes? I found an old pair that was handed down. They're in almost close to pristine condition, and I can't find anything on this pair of shoes.
I've tried the research too. The name you referenced is a great quality leather sole maker that is used by middle to high end shoes. Also search mercanti ferecon..... I butchered that name. DSWs high end line lol
Why haven't any of the "shoe experts" on UA-cam done a review on Velasca? That company seems to be the new "made in Italy" kid on the block with a below $200 price point, which includes the vibram sole option!
The only thing I used to go by is brand name. In men's shoes, I've found that Florsheim about the most shoe for the money. You'll pay premium bucks for them, but they will never disappoint. Nunn-Bush comes in a close second. I've had about 3 pair of Florsheim and had good wear out of all of them. I've even found that while the leather soles wear out and needs a new 1/2 soles, the uppers still stay in shape. Finally, after countless hours of wear, the uppers begin to break down (but they do so GRACEFULLY if that makes any sense!), but that's usually after I plan to retire or give them to Goodwill.
Beckett Simonon? Nah man, go for Meermin or Orban's. Those shoes are goodyear welted (unlike Becket Simonon which are Blake stitched) and they're cheaper too (around $210 and $196 after shipping, respectively).
Np, let me know which one you end up buying. Meermin's been out for a while, Orban's is the new kid on the block. Other than that, one difference you can see is the leather sole of Meermin's shoes have closed channel stitching (you can't see any stitching on the bottom of the shoe but it's there) to make it look cleaner, as opposed to Orban's.
I've had my eyes on these for a while but I have no idea if they are worth that price as I'm a newbie when it comes to dress shoes www.thebay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/thebay/brands/mens-shoes/murain-leather-cap-toe-oxfords-0600089841496--24 Gonna check out the ones you listed too, thx!
simi9222 definitely do NOT get that shoe in your link. Why? B/c it doesn't have a leather outsole. It says it's a resin outsole. Also, you don't know how that resin outsole is attached to the upper. Meaning, you don't know if it's good year welted, blake stitched, or even worse, cemented/glued. And it's still more expensive than Meermin or Orban's too, despite the reduced quality. If you want the best bang for your buck, Meermin or Orban's is the way to go. And specifically their 'whole cut" shoes. Why wholecuts? B/c if you think about it from a shoe maker's perspective, the hardest type of shoe to make is a wholecut, therefore they tend to be a little pricer. However, the wholecuts from Meermin or Orban's are the same price as non-wholecuts (eg captoes, wing tips, etc) so that's a good deal right there
I will add 1 more aspect: the last. Quality dress shoe should have an elegant last with a beautiful silhouette. But first and foremost, it needs to fit your feet snug.
Yea vegetable tanning is a quick and cheap process companies use to artificially age the leather so look for shoes that have gone through a more genuine process of being made with real aged leather.
Seems like things have gone awry with BS shoes. Ordered a pair in October. No video updates., just emails trying to get me to buy more. Just received the shoes in January and will be returning them. The tan color of the leather is blotchy and uneven. I noticed a dark stain near the heel. While I do like the style, the finish is not up to par for a $200 pair of shoes. JM's have a better finish. Lastly, while their website touts the ease of a return with the included return label, no such label was in the box. Given the long wait and the quality, I'll stick with Allen Edmunds or Alden.
Hey Rizal, I just tried it and it appears to work. I didn't go all the way through checkout, but when I added the offer code it took 15% off the price.
They're also 'affordable' because they dont use the best construction -goodyear welt as you explained. And you have to wait a long time alot and more hassle with updates. Foiled advertisement. Ill deff not get this brand.
Why is it that so few shoe companies offer EEE or AAA widths? I don't understand why a company that specializes in shoes wouldn't have a full selection of sizes. Would you buy a suit that doesn't fit? Size availability should be considered in the quality of shoes.
Yup this video is purely unbiased...never mind the fact that they sent him a brand new pair for free.......this is what UA-cam has turned into.....fake info
Sorry dude, the best quality and durable leather is the Cordovan Leather which is horse leather, any cordovan leather shoe is starting from $600.00 and is going to last forever.
200 to 300% mark up is doubtful. I spent 40+years in the retail business and I knew shoe manufacturers and I can tell you that is not the case unless they are coming from a 3rd world country. These shoes look great but from what I have seen, unfortunately their quality is suspect.
The BEST leather for the upper is shell cordovan. Will last for ever, takes a brilliant shine. Yes, Goodyear self construction, full leather lining, leather soles and combination heels. And keep them in FULL wooden shoe trees.
Sorry this is a bit much on the commercial type video rather than a true guide.
I thought the same. I was going to buy some of these shoes, but now I feel confused after watching this video. Seems like too me
I'm a shoemaker, and what i usually do is a goodyear welted construction and a made to order leather shoes.
What he shared in this video is actually a legit information :)
Sure the last minutes was very "commercially". The first part was very good though. Types of leather and construction types.
I used to be a Johnston & Murphy, Allen Edmonds, and Nettleton guy. Well after discovering Beckett Simonon, I said goodbye to J&M; AE could be next. BS has so much style.
there is something nice about conservative shoes with minimal decorations
1. Upper quality & calf leather lining
2. Sewn leather outsole
3. 2-3mm rubber sheet on the front area of the sole
4. 4-5mm rubber end layer on heel.
💯 🎯
i buy my shoes directly from independent producers and they cost me about $70, i noticed beckettsimonnon shoes are made with argentinian leather, mine are made with mexican leather, their quality is great and they cost me much less, i'm lucky i guess.

The explanation of the cost was so enlightening! Great episode overall
thanks Ashley!
@@Thedistilledman1 is there still a 6-8 week wait.
All my shoes are genuine leather. I'm not willing to compromise on the quality.
Thanks for the mention Kyle, well done review!
thanks Justin! That means a lot coming from a shoe expert like you!

Great job explaining the differences of Goodyear vs Blake etc. Thanks.
i think its a great general idea of what you look for in a dress shoe. thanks mate
i know Im quite randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to stream new tv shows online ?
@Louis Jesiah meh atm I've been using flixportal. Just search on google for it=) -kamryn
@Kamryn Finn Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D Appreciate it!
@Louis Jesiah No problem =)
I would keep away from any Blake-stitched shoes. You either choose Goodyear-welted for quality, or hand-welted when you can afford it.
Great video. I've been thinking about that brand but this video sold them
So, what do they use for the outsole? I bet they can’t hold a candle to my Alden shell cordovan shoes.
Hi! I need this kind of review video for my luxury brand of shoes
Hi! Sir I am makes personally dress shoes in our factory.......
So yeah they SPONSORED this video and GAVE ME merch but had no control over my content...LMAO
It's pretty desperate right.
Jay Juggernaut at least he is being honest
Very good video. Thanks for the demo on leathers; that was new info for me. I'll check out the Beckettsimonon link...
Thanks Anthony! I appreciate the kind words. Yes, I've been really happy with my Beckett Simonon shoes. I bought an additional pair of chukkas after this sponsorship.
I have to say I was impressed with their blue suede chukka's and several of the brogues..
Fuck you
How do you feel about Sandro Moscoloni?

I was just looking up Adidas Stan Smith shoes
and I got Ads for Beckett Simonon ... Google knows
I did end up ordering so Google really knows me lol
I’m assuming these work for cowboy boots too cause they’re just like dress shoes but with a shaft and no laces
Loved the shoes, but sad part they only deliver in USA :(
Why don't you do a comparison between Beckett Simonon and Paul Evans or Ace Marks.?
by any chance are you related to actor Chris Pine ?
Do BS shoes run true to size? I take 8.5D in Cole Haan. What size should I order in BS loafers and oxfords? Thanks.
The problem with BS is you have to order, wait, then see if they fit and return. Why not buy a quality shoe made in Middleboro Massachusetts, ALDEN. All top quality construction and materials and they are available in several lasts and retailers here in the US to try on and purchase
Great video sir 👍 have become a big fan of your channel 😊
that's great to hear! thank you sir!
The shoes look great. Never tried their dress shoes, but have a pair of german army trainers coming next month
thanks Khoi! Yeah, they're really nice. Let me know how it goes with the German army trainers.
how'd they end up?
JoeTorok1 solid. They look good. Will take getting used to the silhouette.. Reminds me a bit of Diesel in the mid 2000s
did you colour your top head hair???
haha, no. The gray just hasn't caught up with my head yet. Just my beard.
Brother , is it available in India ?
When does new startrek movie comes up, captain?:)

Any idea what shoe bramd has the closest sizing? Or just measure with the shoe size measure device used in all shoe stores? Keen to try this brand.

That company seems to be the new "made in Italy" kid on the block with a below $200 price point, which includes the vibram sole option!
Are they any good?
They may give the perception of quality, being 85% there. But simply can not compare to better brands, especially over the life of the shoe.
The only thing I used to go by is brand name. In men's shoes, I've found that Florsheim about the most shoe for the money. You'll pay premium bucks for them, but they will never disappoint. Gonna check out the ones you listed too, thx!
simi9222 definitely do NOT get that shoe in your link. However, the wholecuts from Meermin or Orban's are the same price as non-wholecuts (eg captoes, wing tips, etc) so that's a good deal right there
I will add 1 more aspect: the last. Quality dress shoe should have an elegant last with a beautiful silhouette. But first and foremost, it needs to fit your feet snug.
Agreed!
Nice and we need and wish videos in Real Best 4K 60fps HDR resolution clarity quality soon please and Sound in full HD 3D Stereo.
Yea vegetable tanning is a quick and cheap process companies use to artificially age the leather so look for shoes that have gone through a more genuine process of being made with real aged leather.
Good info. Thanks.
thanks Barry!
They dun sell it here in Australia... so we are screwed down under
Yes yes and yes I love good shoes
do you any company that makes size 7 very narrow ? I've tried. Ted Baker used to carry them but, not anymore.
Javier, I'm sorry, but I don't know of a company like that.
Meermin, has shoes from size staring size 5 narrow. Made in Spain. I bought a pair and they fit great.
Really good commercial !
so blatant
I am confused. Is this an ad or educational vlog ?
I can do it in 2: Goodyear welted, made in the UK. Job Done.
you're much more concise than I am. :-) well done.
That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that!
I have several Blake stitching shoes. But, my Goodyear welts are my better shoes.....
Shame they dont ship to my country
Awesome rhetoric. It's concise and transparent.
thanks so much!
Anyone know...?? Today's best brands for formal shoes..maker company..?
Great video brother! Solid list of things to look for in a dress shoe. 1:24 is terrifying, I had no idea!
And hahah 0:41 is great!
I just spent 2k on some Oxford and had none of these qualities 😩
Seems like a lot of explaning at the end. Hrmm
2-300% mark up? The shops I work at really need to change their pricing structure!
Really would like to make my own shoes!!! Great video
120 dollar . So the shoe is made in less then 2h, inclusive highend material. Impressive!
the offer code still valid?
Hey Rizal, I just tried it and it appears to work. I didn't go all the way through checkout, but when I added the offer code it took 15% off the price.
You just sound like an advertisement.
You call " Dress shoes" are what I would regard as Work shoes
@The Art: May I suggest that you visit John Lobb in London for a nice bespoke pair of "dress shoes." $6,000.US, is surely within your budget.
Hi. Thanks. Is there a leather shoe company that uses japanese wagyu cow leather?
Thank you. God bless, Proverbs 31
this is a commercial about beckett simony
The shoes is termed Windsor
Dope beard homie!!
Beard gang!!
I agree with 186bingo.... to much on the commercial type video. Credibility is important. You lost some here.
funny how everyone that has a video sponsored by them has great things to say about them. This was such a blatant commercial and not a review.
They're also 'affordable' because they dont use the best construction -goodyear welt as you explained. And you have to wait a long time alot and more hassle with updates. Foiled advertisement. Ill deff not get this brand.
the finest men's shoe do N O T have a full leather lining, the inside forward half should be natural canvas lined
No conflict of sponsor and shoes supplied then.
Yeah well they only ship to America
Why is it that so few shoe companies offer EEE or AAA widths? I don't understand why a company that specializes in shoes wouldn't have a full selection of sizes. Would you buy a suit that doesn't fit?
Size availability should be considered in the quality of shoes.
I never knew.
jakeismyhero hello
Plzzz talking to me business deal and send me contact number
I am Pakistani and speaking urdu
A cobbler is way 2 expensive to redo shoes.
They do use harsh chemicals even for vegetable tanned leather.
I bought a few pairs, and do not like them at all. The materials are cheap and they're not wearing well. Recommend sticking to J&M and Allen Edmonds.
Yup this video is purely unbiased...never mind the fact that they sent him a brand new pair for free.......this is what UA-cam has turned into.....fake info
Hello :) Does anyone knows good brans for women ?
Watching this but buying shoes on Walmart 🤣
Sorry dude, the best quality and durable leather is the Cordovan Leather which is horse leather, any cordovan leather shoe is starting from $600.00 and is going to last forever.
200 to 300% mark up is doubtful. I spent 40+years in the retail business and I knew shoe manufacturers and I can tell you that is not the case unless they are coming from a 3rd world country.
These shoes look great but from what I have seen, unfortunately their quality is suspect.
Good video ,just need to have more LIGHT in your video.
this might as well be an infomercial
Who outsources oxfords to India? Isn't this a craft where people want hand made in Italy?
I think i am going to be first one to comment ... i really like your content
thanks John!
Low - key thought you were Chris Pine with a beard at first glance. Great video btw.
