Ohhh, this was wonderful to see this. I'm a HUGE fan of HUGO. So nice to see him visiting the other UA-cam channels. I love both Potter and Sons, and Sartorial Talks. It's just great seeing them come together.
When Hugo and Sonya are involved, the conversation cannot be long enough! It's impossible to get bored, when knowledgeable people are discussing a topic we find interesting! I'm so glad you got together. Please do it again! Perhaps Trenton and Heath can make a little trip to France??🍾✨
It's always good to see some of my favorite UA-camrs collaborating. Feels like coming to a family meetup. One remark on Justin Fitzpatrick's shoes: I especially applaud Justin for his transparency in terms of clarifying what you get from, say, his JF line, but more importantly he tells you exactly what you DON'T get. No marketing fluff, no BS, just straight up: "If X or Y matters to you, you'll have to upgrade to my main line." The only negative thing about the JF line is merely subjective, and that's the fact that the elongated almond shape of most of his lasts isn't as elegant as I'd like it to be. But other than that: Great shoes!
Hugo is a legend and a joy to listen to. This was a completely enjoyable collab - thank you! The video may be longer than most, but when you have great people engaged in interesting conversation, it does not feel long at all. Really loved it. Take care.
Three of my favorite people on youtube. So happy! Hugo brings a wealth of knowledge and Trenton and Heath's expert insight is so incredibly valuable. LOVED this video and part 1. Walked away extremely excited.
Herring shoes are made by many companies such as Carlos Santos, Barkers, Loake, Cheaney, NPS Solovair etc. Often they are very similar to the manufacturer's own shoes but with a few small changes. A bit like a supermarket that produces its own branded version of products.
A fantastic collaboration! Hugo, as always, is the perfect combination of knowledgeable and delightful, and Trenton and Heath bring their expertise, charm and hands-on experience. All of this combines to form a rich, entertaining masterclass in entry-to-midlevel men's footwear. And not to mention, three of the finest heads of hair anywhere on the UA-cams!
Hugo is a genuinely knowledgeable, thinking of his knowledge and understanding of the heritage of Cheaney, Tricker's and Church's. Lol, when Hugo did his southern accent :-) Sweet; and I loved Trenton and Heath's response ;-) All good fellas - keep it going. Bravo, more.... Tony
This is wonderful. UA-cam was made for this, for bringing passionate people together and educating the public while breaking the grip big corporate has on consumers!
Great, great collab guys. Hugo is just an amazing guy, I could listen to him all day. Thanks for a fantastic video. So, Hugo tried his "southern" - now we want to hear your French!!
Justin Fitzpatrick is just a wonderful, amazing down to earth guy. I don’t know him personally, but he has taken the time to respond and give me advice online via UA-cam and I really appreciated this helpful advice. I also appreciate his honesty and straightforward reviews on shoes. Can’t find a nicer guy and his success is just the offshoot from the clear passion he has for shoes and shoemakers. Terrific for him and very well deserved!!
I really love these videos because theres only so many relevant google searches for boots I can get by searching online and it would be like impossible for me to hear about these without this video! Thanks!
I always love listening to Hugo speak. It may not always be about some specific shoe he speaks about, but you will learn a lot of show knowledge which helps tremendously to be knowledgeable about the shoes you choose to wear.
I have been wearing Johnston & Murphy for years. The oldest pair I have are a timeless slip on brogue w/ kilties. Probably had them 35 years. BUT they have to well taken care of - I regularly condition the leather and shine as needed. Probably have had them resoled w/ heels at least half a dozen times.
This really resonates with me. I heard great things about Carmina and almost bought a shoe from them, but chose to go with TLB Mallorca because of superior customer service and the chance for a free size change.
I’m glad you’ve included what countries each brand is made in. One BIG reason I support A-E is that many of their shoes are still made in the USA. There are a few countries that I simply cannot support any longer. We effectively vote with each purchase we make. Great information here in this video. Very enjoyable dialogue.
Thank you for the introduction to Hugo! I really enjoyed the knowledge and his personality. I will have to check out his content now. I love it when enthusiasts I the community collaborate and cross-polinate for their followers. My shoe journey continues. Now I either need a raise or a second job to fund it!
For an American, with the exception of Allen Edmonds, NONE of these suggested brands are available in any brick and mortar store to actually see, touch, and try on. While that's not your fault, most people aren't comfortable blindly buying $300+ shoes they can't try on first.
Great video! Grateful that UA-cam helps us unite around our interests. And when channels like both of yours do collabs, it’s just fantastic. Happy to say in the past 1.5-2 years I’ve added a few of these brands to my line up.
Such an informative and pleasant conversation, collaboration over a passion for quality workmanship. I have gone through a minimalist journey over the last few years, and what has survived 'the cut' each pass while decluttering are all my leather handmade or bespoke shoes and bags. Thank you so much for introducing me to a new channel to follow. Merci Mr Jacomet!
Dressing -Up! I does make a difference. It changes more than just how you look! Take the time as you only get one chance to make a first impression. People to see and respect your efforts!
An extremely interesting 2 part video, excellent information. All 3 men have such great personalities. I really appreciate the length of the video, the format allows for the inside scoop. I subbed! 😊
Hearty thanks and much appreciated to you gentlemen for providing a true wealth of knowledge on quality made shoes in an affordable price range your interview with Mr. Jacomet was informative educational enlightening and enjoyable again thanks so much look forward to upcoming UA-cam videos🤓
Another great and informative video! Hugo and Sonya are fantastic people and are a wealth of information. This series is a great go-to for those looking for quality shoes.
Had to laugh at the Trickers joke about kicking butt in the Scottish Highlands but immediately thought of Elmer J. Fudd wearing Trickers boots chasing Bugs Bunny ! I guess you just can't get Bugs out of your mind if you grew up in America no matter what your age LOL.
Love the video and collaboration. I own a pair or Grenson brogues but looking for a new pair of oxfords. Your video broadened my search and I’m definitely interested in the value Meermin and CNES offer, both which are new to me👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻✌🏻
I have a pair of Meermin boots. I love them. But they did take a while to break in and my feet really hurt. But once they broke in they’ve been perfect. Like slippers.
Wow, reading Justin FitzPatrick's bio is impressive. Looking at the names of his models, I recognized a lot of names from around Washington State. Sure enough, he's from Seattle, but with substantial time spent in Italy, England (Savile Row), and Spain to learn the craft and launch his brand. How cool.
merci beaucoup monsieur jacomet! it was a pleasure to listen to you guys! I live in Berlin, Germany and its quite sad here, as it seems that even people who likes to wear nice clothes are no really interessted in nice und good quality shoes and berlin is used to be a fashion city. even if you go to a store, the men shoes department is always so small...
1. Clearly I know nothing about dress shoes. 2. More education than I was ready for and I don’t think I’d ever heard of any of these brands. 3. Not sure I wanna pay these amounts but I’m a believer in quality over quantity 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks yall
Funny seeing Trenton and Heath at 26:42 talking about "there's a lot of choice out there for us, and not just what's down the street", yet both of them dressed in the most common boring brand - Polo RL.
I have worn Salvatore Ferragamo, Paul Stuart, which are made by Cheney and other manufacturers, Ralph Lauren, Church’s all of which have last me 20 plus years, what’s interesting is I have paid a little more than 100$ on most of them. Knowing when too shop is much more important. Just a clothes horse opinion.
Great Video! Thank-you for doing this. As a kid I worked for E.T. Wright "the Arch Preserver" shoe company as an apprenticed shoe cutter. Unfortunately, it was at the end of this companies existence. Cheap imports put them out of business.
Speaking from the city of Kielman shoes, things are not as bad as the media is portraying, life goes on and people continue to go about their business. Great broad spectrum of brands picked out by you guys, definitely something for everyone in there. Tempted to pull out my copy of Hugos' Souliers for another browse but I know it will end bad for my credit card!
@@brookeggleston9314 , don't know why I called Preston (The Elegant Oxford) Soto "Justin"... Hope he forgives me if he sees this... Preston is top notch!
Meermin has crazy quality control problems and awful customer support, which makes it a terrible brand to buy online. I received a pair of boots from them with a lumpy insole so I returned them, and it took them six weeks to process the exchange. When they finally sent me a replacement, they sent me the exact same lumpy pair that I returned. All in all I spent over three months dealing with them. About a year before that, I tried to get some Chelsea boots from them, and the lasting of the upper was super botched. They do use great materials for the money but not worth the risk at all.
Grenson, Herring and Loake get a lot of their shoes made in India rather than Northampton now. The Indian quality appears to be good though. I was surprised there was no mention of another Northampton brand, Barker Shoes.
No mention of Grant Stone? They fit into this price range, generally. Kind of surprised they weren't mentioned, but I guess there are a lot of shoe makers out there and you can't catch all of them.
Yep grant stone would be my #1. They feel heartier than Allen Edmonds and the welt beats Alden by a long shot. I really like the chunky American style dress boot/shoe and nothing beats grant stone at 300-360 brand new. I am really surprised this brand was left out.
I would have love to see and hear you guy continue to take and share your experiences over a glass wine. I can imagine all of you not just talking about the brand but the various last and fine leather used to make a shoe. I know I had a pair of florsheim when I was a kid that didn't wrinkle and I didn't use she trees. I wish I had take the time back then to figure out what was it that get it from wrinkling but I didn't realize how unusual it was till out grow then and my ferragamo started to wrinkle
