Your review couldn't give me anymore confidence in this shoe brand as I just ordered the Durant Oxford in bordeaux. I was slightly nervous, however, I tend to throw the dice at small companies and hope for the best. You have settled the nerves and feel confident that these shoes are going to be amazing.
Please continue to make video like this for other brands: Meermin, Ace Marks, Jack Erwin. I learned a lot, I don’t think there’s anyone on UA-cam doing what you guys are doing.
Rotation, rotation, rotation and shoe trees. Got it and if a cobbler is telling me it is a good shoe for the price point that is good for me. To be honest, I have heard this before but to have another cobbler tell me this solidifies what my feet feel. Four pairs in the closet with shoe trees and they are in rotation with the four pairs of AEs and a couple of other. I do keep them all conditioned with a therapeutic conditioning and polishing every couple of weeks. Great Video!
I've got 2 pairs of BS shoes and they're great. Very comfortable and have worn well. Every bit as good as my Allen Edmonds at half the price. Only downside is the long wait to get them after ordering vs having a pair of AE's within a few days or in a men's store. Also, getting 20% off coupons with each order of BS shoes is nice. That's around $40 off a new pair.
Could you guys make a video about the importance of getting a stacked leather heel block? Maybe explains the pro's and cons of different types of heel blocks? Appreciate the great video! Keep it up!
2 pairs on order. Long wait because of covid. Should arrive soon though. Beckett Simonon has been excellent in keeping me informed. Thanks for the review and recommendation which I considered and ordered 2 pair!
Thank You for this review. I just received my two new pair of Beckett Simonon shoes at Christmas and I was worried that my purchase would end up being a mistake. Glad to see I made a solid purchase.
THANK YOU for splitting it open! I know I've been curious for over a year. I own several pairs and love every single one of them to the point it's hard to pick out a favorite. The 3-month wait period felt weird at first but I learned to almost enjoy it. I forget I ordered something and all of a sudden, SURPRISE! I really enjoy the emails they send out while they're being built and how they tell you about their artisans too! It feels like history is being made and you're now part of it. I really like their German Army Trainer sneakers, those are by far my favorite sneakers. The natural rubber sole is holding up very well. Since there aren't many videos of sneakers being resoled I wonder what your take is on those. Thank you again for the great videos!
Wow 😳 a pair of Aldo shoes was my first real dress shoes. And I'm a shoe/sneaker collector. This page has opened my eyes to a whole genre that has a lot more than just hype behind it. My favorite sneakers are ones where design and detail was paid attention to. Like the Air Jordan 1 Union collaboration. Where most would say some basic AJ1 Chicago because of the hype behind it. I have a funny feeling this page will have me selling all my sneakers for some nice leather boots and shoes. To add on, this kind of style isn't as popular in the northeast so it's definitely harder to get introduced to if it wasn't for the internet. I imagine finding a good cobbler or finding one at all would be hard as well.
I recently ordered two pairs (light brown cap toe Oxford and penny loafer). The shoes are great for the money, but I’ll advised for wide feet. I had both stretched and the oxfords were still too tight for my foot. Ended up sending them to my brother in law. I wish Beckett Simonon had width options when ordering.
Thank you for this comment. I ordered 1 full size up from my regular shoe. I was worried about this but comments like this reassure me I made the right decision.
Appreciate your honest review. I too "loosely" believe it a CON that it is Blake-stitched. That being said, I ordered a couple of pairs today. Looking forward to them!
Was on the fence on getting a pair and this video sold me. My Anders Split Toe Derbies in pebbled leather showed up a few days ago, amazing! Best looking and most comfortable pair of dress/office shoes I ever bought.
I’m not sure if this has been brought up about the extra insoles, but I use them occasionally, but not for extra padding, but because I have a a nearly flat foot and shallow instep. So the padding helps move the foot up into the laces, to where the shoe creases correctly, and allows a more secure fit. The one problem with using them though is if the back of the shoe is tall enough. If it is shallow, insoles are a no-go.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Having sworn off retail shoes and committed to a path toward bespoke, I placed an order for three pairs of Beckett Simonon shoes about three weeks ago. I’m told to expect them in late October. After placing an initial order for the whole cut oxford in black, I was offered that 20% discount on any other shoes I may want to order from that ending “batch”. I couldn’t resist. I ordered two other pairs, both single strapped monks in tan and burgundy. I had done as much research I thought possible on Beckett Simonon before placing my first order. Your video has confirmed my research and then some about this shoe maker. So, again, thank you. I don’t mind the wait, at all. The thing about buying a relatively good quality shoe, like Beckett Simonon, at, most especially, the affordable $200 price point, is that it allows me to more easily complete my shoe collection as I work toward bespoke. I will happily live in a shoe like Beckett Simonon on my way toward as many bespoke shoes possible. For example, in time I will graduate to another pair of black whole cut oxfords. I will either purchase a pair of Berluti Alessandro Galet or an equally beautiful bespoke made shoe at a similar price.

Hi guys, just a little hint concerning pronounciation....again, I know. "Vacchetta" is pronounced " va*ket*ta". In Italian "cha" or "ccha" is always "ka". Vacchetta means " cow hide". As always great and very informative work! Kudos to you 2!
Thank you! I have 3 pairs of Beckett Simonon shoes. I love them. I appreciate the great review you gave them. It took approximately 8 wks to receive them. It's a while to wait, but when they finally arrive, you feel like it's your birthday!!
Years later but thank for this. I Just had this brand advertised to me and I was curious about the price. You’ve explained it well and this was really helpful!
Thanks, guys! Now I feel good about my order during their Black Friday sale period- 2 pairs of boots for $319 ! Nolan brogues and the Gallagher models. Expecting delivery by Feb 2021. :)
I've got two BS pairs, and my favorite are the Kent wingtips. Very well made shoes with good comfort for stiff dress shoes. I hesitate to say it, but my BS Kents are made as well as my Allen Edmonds and fit me better than AE.
Just received my first pair and I love them. Very comfortable out of the box and I loved the occasional email updates on where my shoes were in the process!
Based on this review I purchased 2 boots from Beckett Simonon. The break-in took a little time but once they broke in they were great. I would have liked the laces a little longer but for the price these are amazing
I bought the Royce long wings in tan. I love them. They almost wear like sneakers despite the stacked sole. Only thing I had done was a set of vibram sole savers.
Love your videos, guys. To your point about airports: I haven’t had to remove my shoes in Security in years. Probably because I have TSA Precheck. Maybe that’s what your other customers are referring to.
After watching this video, I decided to buy a pair of Beckett Simonon (split toe). I ordered them 02 NOV 2019 and they arrived on 02 MAR 2020. I paid $157.00 USC after receiving a discount and it was worth the wait for the price and quality. Thank you for this video, this was the deciding factor. Very informative. Where did you guys move too?
I have ordered my third pair of these shoes and own two belts. These shoes are made of great hand-made quality and it is worth the wait for their arrival.
Question....can you guys recommend a school to learn about shoe making and shoe repair? I've been watching your channel along other channels, and being a former Marine we make it our business in making ourselves look great especially the shoes. So, now I'm retired and looking to dedicate myself in something i love. So, any recommendations? I'm in the state of SC.
Beckett Simonon makes the best value quality shoes you can find; soft leather, true to size, comfortable right out of the box. I have purchased boots, shoes, Chelsea even sneakers. There is nothing better out there at this price point. The only thing is that they are made to order; waiting time is about 3 months, but is worth the wait.
Have two pair and wear the. As an atty and I was very worried at first but for price point they can’t be beat. I have the highest arch one can have that usually require orthotics, but not with these. Been impressed.
I lost two footbed once, because the texon insoles were so wet that they came out when I wanted to remove the sockliner. It was raining outside, and the shoes were very dirty, so I decided to give them a fast shower under the sink. They were very cheap shoes in a very bad condition, (holes on their molded soles which explains why the insoles were so wet and also, boxy toes). I still used them as summer shoes with insoles. I am throwing them out in these moments. (Two years of service without footbed)
I have their dowler boots. Love them. Only complaint I have is I got some deep creasing from the first wear. Might be because I didn’t condition before I wore? Idk but I get a ton of compliments on them.
I had a black dowler that I immediately sent back because the thin leather was had so much loose grain. I knew that if I kept it I was going to get insane creasing. Glad to know this hunch is correct.
A pair of Valencia Wholecuts are now on my list for upcoming weddings. Thanks for the teardown and evaluation of why the price point drives the soles interior. With good glue and cobbling skill is the pieced heel really that different than whole pieces ? I am kind of on the fence. A stacked heel is the expectation that you have whole pieces of leather on each layer.
Great review, i've been binge watching your channel ever since i discovered it! I like the honesty and the knowledge of both of you! Do you know what the heel counters are made of? I love the comfort of leather counters and search for shoes with that feature 🙈
I have purchased four pair of shoes from Beckett Simonon and really like all of them with one exception. I bought a pair of Watson Derbys and after having worn them occasionally for six months they have started squeaking when I walk in them. I can feel a very slight vibration through the shoes when I walk also. Any thoughts about what could be causing this? I really think this is something unique to this particular pair of shoes as none of my other Beckett Simonon shoes are doing this.
Just got a pair of Beckett Simonon G A T's on Pshmrk. These are very good shoes. Along with the Italian Leather, gum sole, waxed laces they are very light (compared to my Greats Royale with Margo soles) The GATs may become my new 'go to' shoe. Very impressed.
This was so awesome guys! I feel like having a cork insole instead of the poron is a really big upgrade in terms of comfort since it molds to the foot much better. Do you agree?
The Mensch on Menswear Thanks! We’re kind of old school and like the way great shoes have been made for decades. Cork is nice because it molds to your feet, is comfortable once molded, and it can easily be replaced. Poron can be nice because it has some bounce back. If you’re looking for a lot of comfort, added poron can help. When it comes to being able to refurbish a pair of shoes/boots over and over again, cork is definitely the route to go.
@@mmalave71 👞Great question. I have several pairs of both brands. I now realize the look, feel, and durability of my BS are on par or better than AE's.👞
Just catching up on some of the back videos and this is really a great review. One real "pro" of these shoes, I think, is the story behind how and where they are made (Columbia). If the story Beckett Simonon presents is true and not just marketing hype, it's great to see an entire business built on the premise of hand craftsmanship. It's really in keeping with what Trenton and Heath are all about, and if as consumers we can support more "authentic" products, that should be a big factor in our buying decisions!
Trent and Heath, thanks for the review. I am actually wait on two pairs of shoes from Beckett and Simonon. I’ll need to visit your site to get a kit to maintain my shoes.
Do you guys have any experience with Undandy shoes? I have a few pairs that were my first "nice" shoes. They are also Blake Stitched and made in Portugal and can be customized on the website. These are also in the $200 price range. I'm curious to hear a professional's opinion of them.
Great video. One note, those of us who travel a lot don’t take our shoes off at the airport ( pre-check) so the metal detector thing would be a nuisance if it were an issue
Thanks guys. I will pull the trigger now. Great video. It was hard to watch a new pair of beauitful wholecut shoes being cracked open just for looking.
Great review! I hit subscribe so that I would get alerted on future reviews. I have a question regarding Beckett Simonon's Blake construction. I recently ordered one of their boots, but had expressed concern about water resistance since I wear my boots in all sorts of weather. I was told that all BS boots and shoes are built using Blake-Rapid construction to improve water resistence. Were the shoes you reviewed constructed in that manner? Was that the purpose of the welt?
Excellent review. I have both of those pairs as well and have been quite pleased with them. The wholecut in particular is exceptionally comfortable for me. 👍
Thanks for the video! I just ordered a pair for my brother. I'm Allen Edmunds all the way. I'm 6'5" 400 pounds and size 15 W. Plus I live in Wisconsin.
Thanks for this thorough review. I have been looking for a pair of Chelsea boots for some time, in all the usual places (retail I mean). But after watching your videos, I decided to look at Beckett Simonon. I found a pair I really liked, and the are running a special on boots ($165.00 per pair) so I pick up a pair. I realize I have to wait, but I have waited, or should I say, hesitated for a while already, so the wait for a good pair of shoes is no problem. Thanks for your insight and opinions.
Thanks for the review! What did you think of the quality of the leather? The wholecut looked a bit lackluster to me. Does that have anything to do with this or is it more a matter shining etc?
What’s the best direct to consumer brand in your opinion? Also, thanks for the review. I bought mine before seeing this and they just arrived today. Now I’m even more excited.
Do you think you could review a few woman's shoe brands as well ? I see the details you highlight and cant find anything that resembles it in the shoes I own.
Archana Paladugu We’ll see what we can do. In all honesty, based upon many of the ladies shoes we’ve worked on, women’s shoes “generally” are not made as well as many men’s. Most are all cemented construction. We may do a video where we point out the better ladies brands.
@@archanapaladugu368 have a look at the R.M Williams ladies shoes. Goodyear welted with leather soles or rubber. Handmade in Australia (depending on the model)
Wow this was a very thorough and informative review, I happen to be on my feet walking, standing, stairs, even running at times to catch a train, all of this 5 days a week, is the Blake stitching going to make this a deal breaker given the use? Is there an alternative within the price range that would work better?
Great video! I already purchased a pair of Beckett Simonon Chukkas before watching this video. Also the first time I purchased Direct from the manufacturer.
This was a fantastic video guys! You’re truly filling a viable niche here by representing an expert perspective. There are plenty of influencers out there that have preferences, but you seem informed, genuine, and fair with your assessments. Please do more of these for Ace Marks, Thursday, and Meermin in that $200-$350 tier, and above for Allen Edmonds, Carmina, Alden, etc. I’m sure the fellow enthusiasts out there would be thrilled! Kudos again for all your great content thus far.
Peter Rivera-Pierola Thank you very much! We’re definitely trying to get our hands on those other brands. Meermin and Thursday will be coming up soon. Thanks again!
Very good review. Congratulations from Peru! I’ve been considering if it’s worth to buy a pair of Paul Parkman’s Oxfords. Did you make a review of this brand?Do you recommend it?
Great video and it just added to my excitement for the two Beckett's I have on order. Thanks for the superb sacrifice of opening up the whole cuts. Question: Your video and Kirby Allison's video of out-of-the-box care for Allen Edmonds recommended a dab of conditioning. Did you see a similar need with the Beckett's?
Travis Reese Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. Yes, we definitely recommend conditioner on new, out of the box shoes. We did a video on this topic as well. Enjoy the Beckett’s!
I ordered my Beckett Simonons on August 15, 2020 and they're scheduled to arrive in November--just like you said here. I'm expecting them to be worth it, though.
Great video. Have you guys polished these shoes? Can you comment on whether the leather is open or closed pores? Which line of Safir shoe cream would you recommend?
Excellent video ! I'm really happy you made this video, because im in the market for a new pair of dress shoes, i want a pair of AE or Aldens, but really cant justify the cost. I dont wear dress shoes all that much, but i dont want junk. Ive been on there site and am impressed. Thanks again for the great content.
Great video guys and thanks for sharing your expertise and product knowledge with us. I'd like to see a review of the Idrese shoe brand and whether you would buy from them. I think they are extremely new to the game tho
How do these shoes compare to other shoes in the $200 price range you mention in the video? One I can think of is Meermin. What are some other brands? Thanks
Great video, gentlemen! I've got a question for you - would you add Topy's to the leather soles if a customer wanted to wear them in damp conditions (Central California "winter")?
Robert Cervantes Thanks! I definitely don’t think you can go wrong adding sole protectors to leather soles...especially if you’re wearing them a lot in wet conditions. It’ll prolong the life of the soles and provide some traction.
Guys, could you please do a video or couple videos on the best direct to consumer shoe manufacturers. If you do a video on boots, shoes and another category that people buy. I'm not too familiar with who is direct to consumer and would like to explore my options. I'm in the boot market right now and keep going back to Nick's website...... I absolutely love their looks and only complaint I've heard from a variety of conblers is it takes a bit of time and wear before Nick's boots are broken in and comfortable only on the original owner... Would you rank Nick's at or near the top of best work boots?? How would you rank them for casual dress and event as a dress boot?? Love you content and so glad I stumbled on to your UA-cam channel. Now watch all your videos and a free other cobblers channels that are trustworthy to tell the truth.... Please do another could videos mentioned in this comment earlier.
May I send you a pair of Beckett Simonon cap toe goodyear welt that are about 4 years old but only been worn maybe a dozen times? Half of those only for a couple hours? They are crap quality and not worth wearing any longer and not worth getting fixed, but would be happy to send them along to you guys if you wanted to do a honest dig into them.
Is there anything that you can do to replace the texon after it turns to swiss cheese after many resoles? Or do you have no choice but to get a new pair?
One of the points Beckett Simonon emphasizes on its site is "less waste" so I would say that the heel block's design is consistent with that.
I appreciate this. If a cow is going to give their life so I have a shoe, I want the hide used as much as possible.

Steve McMillen Glad you’re enjoying them!
I’m in the UK and don’t have to remove shoes here although every time I flew internally while I was in the US I was made to take my shoes off
After watching this video, I decided to buy a pair of Beckett Simonon (split toe).
How are the belts holding up
@@tomtexas8574 The belts are holding up great and I am on my 4th pair of shoes that I had purchased
Both very nice-looking shoes. Good to know it's not just that they look good but they're also well made.
I just ordered a pair of Elliott Balmoral boots a couple weeks ago and I'm super excited. Too bad I have to wait until Feb 2023!
How do you like them Thanks
Very helpful, in-depth review gents. On the basis of this video I will be ordering a couple of pairs today!
Would you choose the Hoyt by BS or the Saint by Thursday if you were to purchase one again? I love your channel. Always informative.
Just order two pair - appreciate the autopsy.
your review helped me decide to purchase my first pairs of Beckett Simonon. Thank you for your honest and unbiased insight.
@@TrentonHeath Would you say this is a better quality shoe than Allen Edmonds?
Colombia* Columbia is a different thing.
Without the ability to try on these shoes first and with just a long lead time, this review was priceless. I just ordered a couple pairs.
Great video. One note, those of us who travel a lot don’t take our shoes off at the airport ( pre-check) so the metal detector thing would be a nuisance if it were an issue
RapperT Ahhh...good point!
You guys are doing such a wonderful job!!! Interesting and fun videos!
This review is 5 yrs old. I’m wondering if what is here is still in practice. I’m torn between Meermins and these. I think I’m gonna go with these.
You guy are awesome, I ended up buying my first pair of Beckett Simonon dress shoes. Also first time I went over $100 and not from Macys! So excited .
I'd love to see full dissection!! You should also rip up the linings and uppers. See the materials for the heel counter and toe puffs!
B Smith If we had the lasts they were built on, we might, but we actually want to keep these shoes and enjoy them.
Thank you I have never heard of this brand and this type of review was totally new to me and meant a lot. Well done.
Wow. I have never learned so much about how shoes are made and the difference between good quality and lesser quality made shoes. Thanks!
Trenton & Heath my pleasure. Excellent to hear-looking forward to them!
Love how expertly you review different types of shoe making and construction.
A question..What is your take on Stacy Adams Madison boot?
Very good review. Congratulations from Peru!
I’ve been considering if it’s worth to buy a pair of Paul Parkman’s Oxfords. Did you make a review of this brand?Do you recommend it?
Can you do a review on top 5 dress shoes brands that under $200 since some of us can't buy too expensive shoes?
Awesome job! I was just about to buy a pair and this could not be more informative. You guys do great work
Great video and it just added to my excitement for the two Beckett's I have on order.
I just ordered my first pair of Beckett Simonon’s got the whole cut.
Have they showed up yet? I know there is a delay
I ordered my Beckett Simonons on August 15, 2020 and they're scheduled to arrive in November--just like you said here. I'm expecting them to be worth it, though.
They advertise them as a $200 price tag but say they are worth $350. Is that accurate? and what are the competion brands?
Great video. Have you guys polished these shoes? Can you comment on whether the leather is open or closed pores? Which line of Safir shoe cream would you recommend?
Excellent video ! I'm really happy you made this video, because im in the market for a new pair of dress shoes, i want a pair of AE or Aldens, but really cant justify the cost. I dont wear dress shoes all that much, but i dont want junk. Ive been on there site and am impressed. Thanks again for the great content.
Ok... love the vid. I gotta ask (just because it was mentioned)... What shoes do you guys wear while working?🤔
Great analysis. I have 4 pairs in my rotation. You have another subscriber. Keep the vids coming
Hey guys! When are you doing an R.M Williams boot review... It's a great boot with a very rich history... Looking forward to watching that.
Great video guys and thanks for sharing your expertise and product knowledge with us. I'd like to see a review of the Idrese shoe brand and whether you would buy from them. I think they are extremely new to the game tho
Thanks...We’ll look into them.
I would love to hear of your review of these two shoes now since you've had time to wear them, comfort, durability, patina and whatnot
How do these shoes compare to other shoes in the $200 price range you mention in the video? One I can think of is Meermin. What are some other brands? Thanks
Would you recommend sole protectors on Blake Stitched shoes to extend the life that much more?
Great video, gentlemen! I've got a question for you - would you add Topy's to the leather soles if a customer wanted to wear them in damp conditions (Central California "winter")?
Robert Cervantes Thanks! I definitely don’t think you can go wrong adding sole protectors to leather soles...especially if you’re wearing them a lot in wet conditions. It’ll prolong the life of the soles and provide some traction.
Love to see more breakdowns! Very informative 👍🏼
Just got a pair after 6 month wait lol but it’s probably the most beautiful pair of dress shoes I have ever owned
Concerning lead time.. I just Ordered a pair on Oct 30. They emailed me that the shoes should deliver by the end of January.
Do you guys have a video comparing the repair of a blake stitch to the repair of a Goodyear Welt? I would watch the hell outta that.
