Zen_Guya is a Japanese animator that started a long while ago in NicoNico. originally a Touhou fan animation creator, he started branching towards self made content, and made at least 6 animations. 4 of which are touhou related.
The thing that makes him stand out is his superb animations, MMD is notoriously tough to get animations right without it being awkwardly stiff.

I'd also like to add that this is his first attempt at an action-heavy animation. All of his previous work has been funny, light hearted stuff. So I gotta say it came out pretty damn impressive. Though unfortunately, I did read on his twitter that he will go back to doing light hearted stuff and likely won't come back to action stuff for a while.

I feel like the flaws work to bring it to life in this case. Face it, in real life, nothing goes as planned and even real life elites have bad days where the money is paid for blood. Worse still, when there's too few people to collect the bounty by the end of it.

Animation leaves some stuff to be desired, but considering this is a 30 minute animation done by one man it’s a logical to sacrifice some animation quality so production doesn’t take forever. What I think is most impressive is storytelling and choreography, if they got a full team of animators under their lead I can’t imagine what glory would be the result.

The reason MMD's motion looks awkward is that the software was originally designed to "make animated characters dance," which is a slightly different application than SFM or Blender.
The reason why this software became so popular in Japan is because the software itself is free, it has anime-like toon shaders, a huge fanbase, and a huge amount of user-created assets and plug-ins. (Apparently, if you have the right plug-ins, you can even do ray tracing!) The staff roll is mostly credited to the asset's participants.
I am not an expert on 3D animation, but here is what I know about MMD in Japan.

So the reason I believe the convoy stopped going forward and tried to reverse was because the first vehicle got hit and flipped on its side and there were already cars parked on both sides of the street meaning they’d have to ram through the vehicle. So they probably thought it would be easier to back out until the semi rammed the rear vehicle.

What sets this animation apart from others is that the women are always losing to the men in combat. The main female soldier is very talented, but because of her small stature, she has the advantage in almost all combat battles, but is unable to win the decisive blow. Particularly impressive is the scene in which a woman tries to stab an enemy soldier to death with a knife, and even the enemy who is hit is unable to finish her off due to lack of strength.
In the final scene, too, the woman struggles so hard, but without the flash bang, she would have lost in the end. In Hollywood war movies, such disadvantages due to differences in body size are rarely depicted.

And regarding grenades, they are just like any other explosive. P for plenty. 🙂
Always carry more grenades than you can comfortably carry. That way you'll be more motivated to use them.
And looking at the insane grenade spam from both sides in some trench fights in Ukraine I don't think it's actually possible to have too many grenades.

I'd argue that some of the older 'nades are more lethal, if not more powerful. I heard a story from a guy who was in at the earliest stages of Iraq and he said that some of the insurgents back then were throwing old Soviet stick grenades, and he said those had a tendency to do a lot more local damage due to their design than the old F-1s and RGOs.

hahaha my EXACT words when they threw the smoke too: "They had smoke this whole time?"
the weapon handling stuff was well done and looked good, but the biggest tactical issues are just how slow they move. they sat in the ambush for 10 minutes, spent another 10 minutes fighting in an alley (which a fuckin terrible place to spend any time, they needed to gtfo) and lost visual of the principle. A lot of choices that'd get you fired lol.
But the story telling with just pure action was _really_ good. I might disagree with the tactics of the characters, but it doesn't diminish the quality of the film or its story telling. Most directors in hollywood can't tell story this well with action. This was really great work, I hope this animator has a long career in the industry.

Personally, after watching many vet military reaction in terms of how realistic military movies are. I can somehow see many unrealistic things in this video. That RPG should have been use as an opening for the ambush, or when the limou open it's door. Plus, how come there ain't any ambush force positioned at the building where the convoy got stopped, it's a perfect spot to rain bullets down as it gives better angle for a shooter and gives less the convoy force a cover. Why bombs ain't much utilized by the ambushing force to blast the cars giving them cover. The convoy have smokes, perhaps they'd pop it out much sooner than that. That limou have great armoured and ain't so damage at all that it can still break through and out of kill zone

    • @wutdio4353
      @wutdio4353 3 місяці тому

The first car in the convoy probably got blown up by an RPG, so I was at least expecting an RPG in the initial fight or even grenades as you mentioned earlier.
I disagree on the limo part tho, if there are possibly more explosives or RPG at standby at the front of the convoy and enemy forces slowing advancing at the back and there's a sniper in the main route. The limo is a death wish given that it already probably tank a few rounds in it.
Given how fast the sniper repositioned to the literal building above their initial blockade, I don't see why its not a possibility but that would probably end the fight a little more sooner lmao
It's also find it kinda funny how they have Level IV body armor sitting in some random parking lot.

There's really a lot that this animation does so well at with just visual story telling that i would love to go into like when she breaks down after getting shot and losing her weapon, and the last scene with the build up of her emotions when she touches the flashbangs she got from the shotgun guy and then pulls up a mask that was probably from the m14 guy which symbolize(to what i believes means) that her teammate souls are still with or being carried onto her to help fight

I would have loved to sit in on the meeting where some ambush dudes are told they will be inserting into an active combat zone in the back of a truck. Which will be used as a ram truck. So standing in the back cargo area they will be involved in a violent traffic accident as their PLANNED starting point, from which they are expected to immediately recover from being stirred like a cup of noodles and get busy. Bold strategy. 10,000% effort. With leadership like that the ambush team was robbed of victory I say haha.
