Different kind of chaos though, like when the game first came out and nobody had mastered any classes, the game was absolutely batshit. Now, its also absolutely batshit, but in an entirely different way.
I played it yestarday. It was absolute bedlam, between all the action, one guy just screaming slurs in the voice chat, and one very strange individual with a really serious issue with furries...
Fun fact: that bleeped out bit in "Meet the Demoman" isn't because he swears a bunch, it's canonically because he revealed the existence of more than one Loch Ness monster. The full line is "They've got more fecking sea monsters in the great Loch at Ness than they've got the likes of me".
ah yes all 10 of my favourite characters! - fire man - construction dude - spy - heavy man - sniper boy - baseball bat - that helmet is way too big for you, are you aware of that? - explosions guy - mr that's a very big saw
Fun fact! Red spy actually finishes blu spy's sentence. Blu spy: "He could be in this very room. He could be you, he could be me! He could even be..." Red spy: "Right behind you" (Since spy can go invisible as seen in Meet the Soldier, he could really be right behind you.
My brother... I have played this game since it went F2P I have 8'000 combined hours with my main and my alt i have watched way too many reactions And this is the first time someone made me realize that omg
Few things about each character: Their actual names: Scout: Jeremy Soldier: Jane Doe Pyro: Unknown Demoman: Tavish Finnegan DeGroot Heavy: Mikhail (Misha as a nickname.) Engineer: Dell Conagher Medic: Mr. Ludwig Sniper: Mr. Mundy (actual birthname being Mun Dee) Spy: Unknown. Where they are from: Scout: USA, Boston Soldier: USA, Unspecified in the midwest Pyro: Unknown Demoman: Scotland, specifically Ullapool i think. Heavy: Russia, currently living in the mountains of Siberia Engineer: USA, Texas Medic: Germany Sniper: Australian, originally born in New Zealand, which is basically atlantis in this universe. Spy: France. Some misc. Facts about the characters: Scout: Has several brothers, is canonically Spy's son but he doesn't know it, as he never met his father i believe. Likes baseball and also a drink brand known as Bonk!, which makes their sodas with actual uranium. Canonically, Scout was created by God to be his gift to the Women of earth. Scout is also a massive fan of real life musician Tom Jones. Soldier: Progressively got stupider as the series went on, this is because he is canonically been only drinking lead-poisoned water. Had a pet raccoon named Lt. Bites, is best friends with the opposite team's demoman, Once had a roommate named Merasmus who was an ancient and immortal wizard, who constantly harasses the mercs every halloween. Due to his stupidity, he believes everyone on the team is a fellow american. is also canonically a lawyer. Pyro: 100% a mystery, even pyros gender has long been debated, or if pyro is even human or not. (Hell and monsters canonically exist in the world of TF2, so Pyro not being human is 100% plausible.) Pyro has several hints at possibly being a woman so much that the official story comics even made a joke about the whole thing. The world Pyro sees is known as "Pyroland" Demoman: Owns his own private castle that he seemingly lives in with just his mom, also has several jobs. Owns a talking ghost sword named the Eyelander, Lost his eye during his childhood to the Wizard Merasmus, now his eyeball is a giant flying eye monster named Monoculus who lurks during halloween. Drinks SO much that parts of his body has turned into a biological distillery that creates more alcohol inside of him, because of this, he was once poisoned by drinking regular normal water. Is best friends with the opposite team's soldier. Engineer: His family history goes back a ways, giving him more of a connection to a lot of important lore characters, has cut off one of his hands to replace it with a robotic one, which he keeps under his one glove. has several PHDs, seems to get along with and likes Pyro, also often hangs out with Medic to do experiments. Heavy: Has a mother and 3 sisters, one of his sisters is engaged to the Soldier, much to his disliking. Has a hatred for Communists, on account of them imprisoning him and his family in a russian Gulag, which he broke out from. Loves his gun so much that he has a custom bed just for it. Commonly thought to be a big dumb brute, but in actuality, Heavy is just mostly reserved to himself when not fighting. He has a PHD in russian literature, but struggles a lot with English as a language. Medic: Canonically has surgically stolen the souls of his whole team and added them to himself, Sold atleast one of his souls to the Devil and has cheated dieing and going to hell atleast once. Doesn't care about actual medicine, he just likes experimenting on his team which he considers to be test subjects. Has once, with the help of engineer, put a thieve's brain in a pumpkin for a halloween decoration. has a pet bird named Archimedes who he loves dearly. Sniper: Adopted by a kind australian family after he was launched in a rocket from the underwater city of New Zealand. Has to pee A LOT due to taking pills that enlarge his kidneys i believe, he ises these pee jars as Jar-based karate, AKA Jarate, to gross out enemies. Spy: Fronch. Scout is his son, but he doesn't seem to want him to know, Spy has shown a few times to potentially actually care about scout, but refuses to actually show it. has several fake teeth that he stores super tiny versions of objects inside of.
@@Mattables Enjoy the read, i still left out a good amount of fun things but i think i covered most of the really wacky and good stuff. Much like a lot of people, i love these characters dearly and am glad to share info about them. I didn't even get to talk about any of the important non-playable characters, but rest assured, A lot of the side cast is often just as likeable and memorable.
@@KidV0lt Nope. Robin Walker, the then head developer of TF2 (back when there was an entire TF2 dev team at Valve) explicitely stated in an interview in the late 2000s that "The Medic was never a Nazi. We _could_ have made him a Nazi, but that would have been too easy." The description of one of the Medic's older hats, the _Medic's Mountain Cap,_ vaguely implies that Medic _was_ in WW2, though, taking part in the Ardennes Offensive (aka. the Battle of the Bulge) as a young field surgeon; as the hat's description reads _"The men in his unit called him 'The Bavarian Butcher'"._ Notice that neither Stuttgart nor the town of Rottenburg (canonically Medic's origin home town since the 2013 Two Cities update) lie in the federal state of Bavaria, but instead in Baden-Württemberg, specifically in the ancient region of Swabia. And the Swabians and Bavarians are linked by ancient feuds... calling Medic the Swabian "the Bavarian Butcher" would have been quite the insult to him! I mean, that's probably the point... the soldiers didn't like the Mad Doctor. No, the Medic is clearly a warlock (descended from "a long line of Mad Scientists, Mad Doctors and Warlocks" as it says in the Two Cities update) and Archimedes the suspiciously intelligent and blood-spattered white dove is his familiar.
In case you're wondering why the last one says created in Source Filmmaker, it's because Valve *made* SFM. It was the software made specifically for these trailers them released to the public.
Respect for playing these in order as they came out (not counting the Sandvich). Most of us had to wait years for these to come out, that's why there's such a colossal animation difference between first one and the last one. There is a standalone TF2 short movie called "Expiration Date" if you want to finish your TF2 react. It's about a cheesy love story how Scout tries to ask a girl out on a date on the "last day of his life". If you want to see something crazy the community had made watch "TF2 Turbulence". It's one of the most viewed short videos. Make sure to watch it in 720p for that 60 fps dedication that the creator animated for.
Thee is also the official short movie "End of the Line" (13.5 min long!) which was created on commission by Valve as Lore trailer for the _End of the Line_ content update of 2014, outsourced to a team of professional (as in, professionally trained, doing this for a living) animators, musicians, map makers and 3E modellers drawn from the TF2 community under the leadership of McVinnie (alias McVee).
Not to mention that the thing about expiration date, was that was actually the pilot episode for an actual tf2 show that adult swim would pick up, but due to a disagreement with run time and ad time, they didn't go through with it.
This playlist is not arranged in order of release. MT Sniper was released some time after the game was released, whereas Soldier, Demo, Heavy and Engy vids were released before the game.
"You can't record this in game..." Actually, you can, and it was, all of it. The team at Valve really wanted to make cinematic trailers to go along with their projects but at the time there wasn't any software that really worked to suit their needs, so they said screw it and made their own. SFM (Source Film Maker) is pretty well-known now for its movie-making potential and has become pretty standard for a lot of 3D animators, but the "Source" in SFM is derived from the Source Engine which Valve used in all of their games at the time. Because they ran on the same code and software the devs could build scenes in SFM using the game engine and then go back in to micro-manage animations, lighting, and effects to make a cinematic product off the backbone of their game resources. TF2's Meet the Team shorts are definitely the most well-known product of it all, but Valve also used SFM to make the trailers for the Left 4 Dead series, along with many others. SFM saw a huge explosion in usage when Valve released the software as freeware through Steam for anyone and everyone to use. They even hosted a special competition each year for community-submitted films made within SFM and handed out awards for the winners in several categories. The TF2 Meet The Team shorts were made well after the game had already launched, and the community had to wait years for them to all finally be released and complete the squad as it were. A few other rapid-fire comments: Engineer has 4 types of sentry gun. His standard loadout is a Sentry that can be upgraded by two stages. First stage is the single barrel featured in the short. Second stage upgrades it to a dual pair of Gatling guns, and the third stage adds a missile salvo on the top. The way they function essentially makes them three different entities, and as an Engineer you will have to upgrade them over time, so good positioning and resource management helps. The fourth Sentry is a mini sentry. The engineer can trade out his wrench for a mechanical hand that replaces his sentry gun with a fast-deploying mini sentry. It has less health, but takes less metal to build and there's no need to upgrade it. It's meant to be dropped and forgotten freeing the engineer up from having to babysit a nest. (This comment wasn't very rapid, or on fire. Apologies.) Scout has many melee weapons which make obnoxious sounds when they hit people, including the likes of a cardboard wrapping paper tube, and a fish. But every class in the game has access to a frying pan melee weapon which sounds exactly like you'd imagine getting hit in the side of the head with a cast iron pan would. How dare you compare Medic to Mercy, it's the other way around. Spy is French. Soldier's rocket launcher is not a 1 hit K.O.(*) Usually... Meet the Medic languished in production as the team tried to come up with a story idea that would describe how he discovered the Uber Charge and went through many re-writes leaving a several-year gap between shorts being released. Junkrat lobs nades around corners like Demoman, not the other way around. They're ALL crazy. It's just that Pyro is exceptionally deranged. And now for a not-so-rapid fire comment, but it is about fire. Kinda. There is a plethora of lore to be found about the TF2 universe now, and it's an absurd universe to be sure. At the game's launch, however, there was nothing. Valve was much more intent on making an excellent shooter with sound mechanics than an overdeveloped story. They had tried to make a more narrative-based game akin to Call of Duty or a military tactical simulator but none of those projects really fit the bill for what they wanted. So after scrapping prior projects and returning to the drawing board they went with a simple philosophy. Make a game that was fun. You can hear a lot of the developer comments in-game throughout the tutorial maps which give insight to the thought process of creating the game. Why am I saying all this? Because it needs to be understood that for anyone who picked up TF2 in the early days would have found the lore and plot rather devoid of substance. What they had were an array of cookey characters shooting each other and blowing things up, which was great. As Valve began to make promo materials though, the world of TF2 would begin to grow. With the likes of Meet the Heavy we were given our first glimpse into the characters outside of the gameplay norm. Meet the Sniper and Scout would come next, with Engineer Spy and the Demoman all rounding things out, and people were hyped. In the early days of UA-cam these videos skyrocketed in popularity and were essentially memes before memes were a concept within pop culture. If you played the game, you were on the inside of the joke. All the references, mashups, and stupid funny comments and collabs made out of the content became a culture unto itself. Just as with all things that occupy the proverbial brain-space of dedicated nerds and their beloved subjects of interest however, there were plenty of conspiracies and questions to be had as well. For one, why was Meet the Medic so delayed in comparison to the other shorts... and what about The Pyro? The Pyro...Within the game are several map assets that add character to the world. One item is found pretty commonly on several maps and it is a locker cubby for the different mercenaries. You can get an idea of which locker belongs to who based on random items found inside that relate to their loadout or personality. In the case of Pyro, we could see their locker by the dead giveaway in a spare optical mask like the one they're seen wearing at all times. However, in the same locker, there is what looks to be a handbag, with a flower embroidered on its side. As people began to take notice of this little detail a rift would form in the community sparking am massive debate as to whether the Pyro was a guy, or a girl. (Thus began the pronoun wars!) Pyro does not speak... at least not in the way the other characters do. Their voice lines are an array of mumbles and distorted murmurs made unintelligible by their mask, which is part of the joke of the character. Combine that with an amorphous jumpsuit that leaves their figure in question beneath and it's not a hard thing to imagine in terms of debate and theories regarding just who Pyro really was. Valve certainly seemed to be baiting the trap themselves given little teases and the characters' overall concept. Add in the fact that several of the other classes have lines spoken when dominating a Pyro that seem to insinuate their questionable gender and you have plenty of fuel being added to the conspiracy fire. When Meet the Medic was finally released, everyone was excited, but the Madd Doctor's film debut was undercut a bit by the now -burning- hot questions surrounding the mysterious Pyro. Only one thing would satisfy their curiosity, and it was Pyro's inevitable short. In the leadup to Meet The Pyro there was an in-game event wherein several strange and cryptic items would drop for people in game. Super sleuths would take to their methods of breaking codes, deciphering hidden puzzles and the like to reveal hidden messages within the code and textures of these in-game items. When it was all decoded, leading people through an ARG of sorts the final message revealed that the Pyro Update was coming, and when. This was a BIG deal, not only in terms of the fixes it would bring to the game, specifically for Pyro, but no class had been given so much pomp and circumstance for an update before. People waited with bated breath as the days leading up to the patch were counted down on the TF2 homepage in real time once the code was cracked. When Meet the Pyro went live on UA-cam, it crashed the site.So many people flooded to watch the short both in hopes of getting answers to longstanding questions, and simply due to the hype of all the prior shorts, especially with how much of a step up Meet the Medic had been. And, after all that waiting to find out whether Pyro was a man or a woman... we instead found out that they're just batshit crazy... and crazy people don't need an excuse to carry around pretty flower-embroidered handbags on a battlefield. Perhaps in smart fashion Valve realized that the heated debate was never going to have a satisfactory answer for any side involved, and in a genius move rather than playing into plot A or B, they threw in a plot C for Crazy and it worked. The revelation and reveal to Pyros insanity was so well done that the community as a whole dropped the debate seemingly overnight and serves as a masterclass in subverting expectations the right way to leave your audience satisfied. I say all of this simply to put into context the level of hype and expectation the games community had regarding the completion of this collection of videos. Meet the Pyro's views skyrocketed into the millions within days of its release and became a gateway video for thousands of people into the TF2 universe. It was an endeavor that spanned years and was not necessary in the slightest, nor was any of it meant to pander to the audience, or to gimmick people into playing a game they knew nothing about. It was just pure, unbridled, fun. And that's what TF2 as a game is, fun. I have known people from the TF2 community longer than most people I know in real life. It's a wonderfully unique community built around the love for these absurd characters and the insane universe they occupy. You can be the most talented tryhard to ever pick up the game, or a complete novice, all the way to the guy who has rigged his toaster to provide inputs for the game while playing Spy and manages to chain backstab a whole line of people. Whatever your place in the game you're gonna have fun, and that's why TF2 is the perfect game. Fire.
these were made in SFM or source film maker which is a program that anyone can use and a lot of funny videos are made with it but when you use SFM you have access to the assets of basically any valve game with 3d models (that runs on source)
Here's a small list detailing the functions of each class because I'm a bit autistic. Scout: Glass Cannon Flanker - Residential flanker, with the fastest running speed in the game, a double jump, and a high damage shotgun, Scout is able to speed into the back lines to wipe out high priority picks and capture objectives. Extremely mobile and deadly at close range, at the cost of being very fragile and being weaker at mid to long range. Soldier: Generalist Power Pick - Versatile power class, able to switch between offense and defense with his high damage area denying rockets. Has a slow running speed but is able to launch himself in the air with his rockets, providing him the single strongest movement option, at the cost of his health. Weaker at close range, but has secondary options to mitigate the weakness, like his melee and shotgun. Pyro: Offense-Support Hybrid - An odd blend between offense and support. His close ranged flamethrower make him good for head on attacks and area denial. Additionally has the ability to reflect projectiles and enemies, making him good at defending high priority teammates from flanking power classes. His easy to spam flames makes him a hard counter to spy. Weak to enemies that can outrange him. Demoman: Offensive Power Pick - Highly deadly power class. Is able to deal massive damage to groups of enemies with his grenade launcher, able to deal instant damage if you land a direct hit or roll around corners to apply pressure without using a line of sight, and sticky bomb launcher, able to set up traps to kill unsuspecting enemies while also being good at spamming at mid range. While he's more powerful than soldier, he has less options to deal with close up encounters, due to his weapons being tougher to use at close range, making him weaker to good scouts or pyros. Heavy: Residential Tank - Defensive powerhouse. While he is the slowest moving class in the game, with little mobility options, he makes up for it for being a monster at head on combat and denying pushes. Has the largest health pool, making him very strong at one on one encounters. His slow movement speed makes him very vulnerable to snipers and focus fire. Enginner - Premier Defense - The defense class. Often regarded as the most difficulty class in the game, engineer has three powerful buildings that he must always maintain and defend from the enemy team. His first building is the sentry gun, an area denial tool that prevent flankers and pushes with high health and dps, but is often a damage sponge that need constant maintenance to survive. The second is the dispenser, a support tool that replinishes the health and ammo of teammates, allowing them to stay in the battle without needing to fall back. The third is the teleporter, a mobility tool that transports teammates to a chosen area to lessen the time it takes for teammates to return to the battlefield after dying, ensuring they can maintain a defensive or offensive push. While he's able to reliabley defend himself, he is generally unable to go toe to tow with the power classes, and poor management of each building may result in a loss. Gets hard countered by demoman. Medic: Ultimate Support. - The strongest class in the game, able to heal teammates with his primary, ensuring they can stay in battle for longer. Also has the ability to give over heal, increasing the max health of players for a limited time. Has a meter called Uber Charge, which when full, makes the player currently being healed by the medic completely invincible for eight seconds, allowing for Game-changing offensive or defensive pushes. Extremely weak at head on combat, making him an easy pick to flankers if not properly defenders. Sniper: The Pick Class - The long ranged glass cannon, able to deal 150 damage with a quick scope headshot, instantly killing more than five out of nine classes at max health. Also able to charge shots, making able to instantly kill any class from any range at max charge. Very weak at close combat. Spy: Worse, but cooler Sniper The second hardest class to play. A pick class like sniper, Spy uses tools like a cloak and disguises to sneak into the back lines and take out one or multiple high priority picks in quick succession. His weakness to communication, fragile body, and Pyro makes him often considered the weakest class in the game, but he is still able to be very effective, able to sneak in and disrupt the enemy team from within. And he's very unique and fun!
@@JoaoLucasK I'm not really sure about engineer, I feel Uncle Dane and others have shown that they are equally matched in terms of how they match each other. Otherwise, I agree.
Fun fact about Heavy. He adds that comment, "Some people think they can outsmart me" While he's not the smartest of the characters, he's actually very intelligent. I believe he even has multiple masters degrees, I could be wrong though.
@@Nehfarius| Russian literature is FAMOUSLY bleak. Lots of grim stories about the inevitability of death and the evils of man. They'd hold a lot of wisdom for someone like Heavy, who kills for his living.
I usually find a way to always recommend this gem for reaction UA-camrs, either "Minecraft, but it's pay-to-win (or lose)" or half-life vr but the ai is self aware
"are those pee cups?" Yes, yes they are, and sniper THROWS them at people. He created a whole martial arts system called Jarate, which on contact makes you take more damage in-game. 8:33
nah, he didn't create jarate. He got some pills from Mann co that quadrupled the size of his kidneys and included instructions on how to weaponize the results.
One of the Scout's melee options is a fish called the holy mackerel that is literally exactly the same as the default bat, except it announces every single HIT you get with it in the killfeed with the item description reading "Getting hit with a fish has got to be embarrassing", betting dollars to donuts that'll be one of if not your favorite scout melees if you get into this game further.
Heh, great to see the TF2 renaissance in youtube now that the game is basically free of bots after 4 years in bot hell. If you liked it, there are a few things TF2 related that you probably will enjoy: -The official TF2 standalone short "Expiration Date" -LazyPurple's "How it feels" videos, explaining every class in the game (in a very goofy, meme way with SFM bits) -And last but not least, Team Fabulous 2. It is a meme video done in Gmod, its hilarious, and the creator is very loved by the community, so much that the video was completely redone by various animators after the creator passed away.
Seconded for all of these. If you still want more after could do "Pootis Engage" it's far more meme-y but it's a good look into TF2 memes and still high quality
second this. Expiration Date is a 15 minute long video, made by valve like these were. It was originally gonna be the pilot of a Team Fortress 2 TV series in collaboration with Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, but the deal fell through, so it became part of the Love and War update.
pyro is really fun in this game because if you press mouse 2 you can shoot a blast of air and it will redirect (almost) any non hitscan projectile in the direction you are aiming and will also make it a critical
there's two main reasons why Valve never made TF3: 1: the game has transactions where you can buy cosmetics like weapon paints, hats, outfits etc., so it's still making decent amounts of money: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, valve likes money 2: TF2 is already so different from the original Team Fortress, which was a Quake mod in the 90s, and Valve didn't really make big developments game engine wise until they made source 2 a few years ago, which they made a new counterstrike version on, and most of their programmers have since been working on a different game that tries to somehow combine many very different shooter game types: Deadlock, which you mentioned in the beginning. I recommend trying both Deadlock and Team Fortress 2 for a bit, TF2 has still a really active player base and the big bot problem we had seems to have been fixed now, so right now is the best possible time for newbies to hop into a casual game in years
Did not expect you to react to this, but im really happy you did. You should also react to the "Expiration Date" which is also an official tf2 animation, similar to these but its about 15 minutes long and its really good
There are a lot of voicelines, as in, enough for practically any sentence to be constructed for any character just by rearranging words (this is a staple for fan animations). Scout's whole thing is being a deadly menace, and he has several weapons that excel at this, such as shotguns that knock the target around (off cliffs, out of position, just to generally make it harder for them to aim), several weapons that cause damage over time and flinching or debuffs, and melees that specifically announce in the kill feed hits as well as kills, just so the entire server knows you have successfully bludgeoned someone over the head with a dead fish. And, of course, all classes get the Frying Pan, which makes appropriately loud noises on hit. Scout just has a higher swing speed, making a pack of pan scouts into a force that can shatter the ear drums of their targets.
The video "Expiration Date" is a must, but i'd definitely recomend the "Meet the Amazing"series by Piemations for something more comically TF2 related. Or "Emesis Blue" from Fortress Films for something more... deeply unhinged. :D
These were all made in an animation program called SFM (Source FilmMaker) which is an animation, editing, and all-round digital filmmaking toolkit packaged with all of Valve's Source games. It is also infamously nightmarish to use.
Oh, I remember watching these whenever they first came out. :D They're still funny! I really like that they're all a different sort of unhinged, and then there's Pyro. I've never played TF2 specifically, but I like taking on a support/healer role in games. Always be nice to the healer... they may be the only reason you stay alive long enough to win. (:
These "Meet the ..." videos were official promotional materials made by Valve Software staff using their own custom machinima software called "Source Film Maker (SFM)".
This video is just good fun. It comes from an era when people went WILD with creativity and it's honestly surprising how well the animation still holds up.
The fact that the quality holds up so well can probably in large part be credited to the creative decision to give the game such a cartoony art style rather than trying for realism.
24:00 Yeah, one of the techniques for the Pyro was to run around the base tap-spraying people with the flamethrower to spy-check since it's easy to aim and has lots of ammo...also kinda why the Pyro video is just him going around burning everyone...
30:54 there is an overheal mechanic but that is an ability is only accessible if you have fully charged a bar and yes is makes you completely immune to all damage
There's an analog horror(?) series called angel Hare made by a channel call the east patch that needs to get more attension. They've just started realising season 3 of the series and the first two are such a good watch.
So some stuff I noticed as I went Beautiful names for the characters at the start there, spot on And yes, the Jar of piss is a real weapon in tf2, its called "Jarate" as in "Jar Based Karate", and when you hit an enemy with it, they take more damage. And when sniper says "Be Polite", that move he's doing where he puts his hat over his heart is an actual taunt you can do in the game, you even get an achievement for it lol So the main setting for TF2 takes place around australia I believe as well, but each class has their own national origins for sure! For the engineer, that counter next to him is a real thing in-game, they're called Strange items, and if its on a cosmetic item, it counts the points you earn while playing a match, and can level up to get a new prefix for the hat, for weapons it tracks kills, also giving them new prefixes after so many kills! And if you think that level 1 sentry is cute, you should see the literal "mini-sentry" you can get through weapon drops lol Also its only 1 sentry per player sadly, unless you play Mann vs Machine in which case you can get an upgrade to get a mini-sentry to build as well! You can also build teleporters to move your team to the front line. Scout! He does actually move that fast, and funner fact, he can dodge bullets if he drinks a radioactive energy drink called "Bonk: Atomic punch" Demoman, he is scottish, and according to the tf2 comics, he holds several jobs beyond his mercenary work, and its still not enough for his fully blind mother, who holds somehow MORE jobs than him. Soldier is just one of many classes, he has his own strengths and weaknesses, but far from a generic class, and his rockets, if critical-boosted, can 1-shot most classes which is incredibly annoying actually, but thats why both teams can do it. Also yes, the spies can go invisible, in many forms including infinitely invisible with the Cloak and Dagger, which only drains invisibility by moving around, and regens when standing still, and they have a backstab attack that kills anyone, no matter what, instantly. Its really nice if a good spy is on your team, and hell if they aren't. Canonically, spy is scouts father, and meet the spy proves it, along with the tf2 comics Spies, if you're team is more aware of their surroundings than a house fly, should be able to tell if someone is a spy, some giveaways are if no one is playing a class the spy is disguised as, or if the spy disguises as a scout, they will walk slower and will never double jump (which the scout can do in-game). Other ways you can tell are just by shooting teammates, theres no friendly fire, so if you're hitting anything at all, its a spy, and finally, you can just walk into them, enemies are solid, while teammates are not, so if you walk into a "teammate" and they don't instantly phase through you like a ghost, its a spy. 24:17, that cut the sniper gets on his face was added to his actual in-game model after the Meet the Spy video released! Spy was french The medic has a medigun, as you saw, and he has several different ones, all of them require you to heal your teammates to 'charge' them, and when the charge is full, you can unleash their power onto your teammates! Doing this is called an "uber". His default medigun makes you invincible, he has one called the Kritzkrieg which gives the person you heal 2x damage critz, he has one that prevents knockback and heals for an insnae rate, and another that comes with 4 ubers that prevents critical damage from affecting you, but only if you select the correct damage type, those being bullets, fire, and explosives. Medic isn't Mercy, Medic is what Mercy wishes she could be His medi-gun also overheals most targets, which can put heavy players up to 400+ HP in overheal, which is insane to deal with sometimes. But most players don't play medic lol And yea, medic has a needle-gun that most players never use cause its bad, theres a weapon called the crusaders crossbow that can heal teammates from far away, but its a projectile, and its still the most used, and best imo weapon for medic to use. And last fun fact about the medic, that ending scene with Scout, after that came out they made it a 1/20 chance that a dove will fly out of a scout if they explode lol Finally, pyro, yea they're insane, people have fought for years over the gender of pyro, its never been really revealed ever. In the tf2 comics they did reveal that the original pyro from team fortress Classic was female, and after they added the meet the pyro video, they added those crazy-land items like the trumpet flamethrower, lolipop axe, and other fun items, along with "pyrovision" goggles, which if you equip the pyrovision goggles, or any of the new pyroland items, some maps would be changed to reflect the change by making them all pastel colored, and giving everyone else high-pitched sounding voicelines I main any class thats needed to fit a niche tbh, except medic and engineer, if I can help it at least, they're fun but omg is it hard to be good at them when you have the biggest target on your back or a million things to take care of.
Second Also fun fact 8:28 you can use those jars in the game as projectiles They do damage an cover the screen with "a yellow liquid" And a bunch of other stuff
Hey! great vid as always :D Funnily enough they were going to have a tf2 series with adult swim! the pilot is on youtube and I'd highly recommend it as well as some of the other shorts (like Jungle Inferno or the fan short End of The Line (there's also an entire fan horror film called Emesis Blue)), personally I don't know the exact reason the series never took off but they also have a comic run on their website that is still ongoing! I'd be curious to see your reaction to the history/lore of tf2 as it's kinda ridiculous but also highly entertaining,, The two I love maining are probably Medic and Engineer! Medic is who I started off playing the game as but now I'd have to say I'm more partial to Engie (especially when you get the majority of your team to also play Engineer and just set up like 5 turrets in one area)
As I recall, Valve wanted to animate the series exclusively using Source Filmmaker; but the animation studio took one look at the software and said "Excuse you???" And from what I've heard anyone who's animated with SFM can attest that they were right to do so.
Fun fact: In the update that Meet the Spy was released for, the Sniper's character model was updated to give him a barely visible scar on his face in the same spot the Spy slashes him in the video. Also, if you want to see more of this glorious, insane universe, there are a lot of other animated shorts and official webcomics you can watch/read, but the following are my strongest recommendations: 1) Expiration Date: A good introduction to a major supporting character who's an ally to the team. 2) Catch-Up Comic: Technically not a recommendation on its own, but it's a good way to fill you in on the most important plot details in preparation for... 3) Mann Co. No More: A seven-issue (technically eight, but the final issue was sadly never made) continuous storyline following the adventures of the team as the company they work for is taken over and they're scattered to the winds after losing their jobs. As you can probably gather, the last two are webcomics and not videos, but there are fandubs on UA-cam you can watch that are more reaction friendly. Alternatively, if you're more interested in the gameplay side of things, LazyPurple's How It Feels to Play... series is a hilarious look at how every class actually works in game.
engie in TF2 can only build one turret at a time; here though more were added likely to showcase the 3 levels the turret has (the small one, two minigund, and 2 miniguns with a rocket launcher added on top), though that one turret is EXTREMELY powerful and can kill any player entering its range and line of sight in seconds when fully upgraded
@@themalcontent100 *OH IT ABSOLUTLY IS* All SFM artists say it. The thing is it is really good for what it does and it is very customizable too, wich makes it even better to allow almost anything.
As other people have said: if you enjoyed this then you should watch the "Expiration Date" short film, it was essentially a pilot episode for a Team Fortress 2 TV series for Adult Swim that never developed into a full series for a number of reasons, but it's made by Valve themselves in the same Source Filmmaker tool they used to create all of the shorts and it's a really funny showcase of all of the cast interacting with a bit more background about the world
Welcome to the insanity that is TF2 and its Lore (yes, there are comics, and the big content updates we had each year until early 2018 all contained Lore, too). Fun fact: There are items in the game that allow you to see in "Pyrovision", and a couple of the older maps have an alternate texture pack "Pyroland". In Pyrovision, everything is pastel-colored with flowers everywhere, and all screams are laughter, all blood and flying body parts are seen as confetti and balloons (called "birthday mode" which can be enabled as a low-violence mode in advanced options if you are squeamish or your kid is playing TF2 an M-rated game), and even the killfeed is changed: "X killed Y" now reads as "X became friends with Y". Sadly, Valve didn't make Pyroland versions for newer maps, although the TF2 community has done so, but Valve hasn't yet implemented the texture map pack uploaded to the TF2 Steam Workshop yet...
2:37 mins - that would be /tingles/ like feel-good shivers on your head or down your spine. ASMR might be something worth checking out but avoid the thot pleague and "mouth sound" roleplays unless its 5 vs johnny...
The best part about TF2, is that even though there are only 9 classes, each one has a loadout system with hundreds of possible combinations. For example, Soldier has many different rocket launchers, like the Direct Hit (A rocket launcher that trades explosion radius for way more direct damage) or the Rocket Jumper (a rocket launcher that deals no damage and allows you to rocket jump with taking any damage) and tons more, and that’s just his primary.
so, two things about meet the sandvich 1. The dialogue between scout, soldier, and heavy was all improved by the voice actors. 2. The camera angle seems very very odd, until you consider the events of meet the medic, and see precisely where in the fridge that preserved blu spy head is. regarding melee weapons... most swing at the same rate and deal 65 damage. Scout swings about 40% faster, but only does 35 damage. Spy deals only 40 damage, unless it connects with a target's backside, which then automatically deals 2X their current health, and crits, tripling it to 6X. Some weapons have different damage values or slower swing speeds. Valve has always added downsides to any upsides of a weapon Heavy is not a big talker. But don't take him for dumb. He's just not fluent in english. His home country is Russia. He's the tankiest character, and at close ranges, one of the deadliest to go head to head with, especially if he's already revved up and firing. Sniper is a bit controversial, as he's, as he said, an assassin. He excels at picking off targets from a distance. When he scopes in, he builds a charge meter over two seconds. His shots gain 2% more damage per 1% charge. His base damage is 50. If he hits the head, it's an automatic crit, which deals triple damage. Meaning if he gets a headshot off at max charge, it's 450 damage. That's enough to kill any non invulnerable target in regular gameplay. Sniper was raised in Australia...though not born there. yeah meet the engie was made to more showcase the various levels of his turret. you can only have one turret out, but with metal pickups you can upgrade it. level 1 is the simple drum mag feed one, level 2 is the dual rotating guns, and level 3 adds the rockets. Leveling it up also upgrades the health of them. level 1 is 150, level 2 is 180, and level 3 is 216. Not showcased, are his dispenser and teleporter. Dispenser will heal nearby teammates and replenish their ammunition. The supply on both is infinite. Teleporter is two buildings, an entrance and exit. Does what it says on the tin, teleports players from one place to another. Engie is a backbone of the team. He's from Texas, and sports 11 PhDs. Scout, he's a flanker. his shotgun can deal devastating damage at close range. he catches you offguard and has even a modicum of aim, you're dead. He relies on speed, being at least 33% faster than the other classes. Scout hails from Boston, and is the youngest of eight siblings...though they may be half siblings, only having a common mother. Demoman hails from Ullapool, Scotland. An explosives genius since he was little. Surprisingly, while his eye was lost due to something bomb related, it wasn't an explosion that took it. Rather a magic book about bombs cursed his eye socket. Now every halloween he and the team are haunted by his cursed eye. Demo is probably the hardest hitting character. But he requires setup and good aim to be his max effectiveness. And no, he wasn't swearing. He was bleeped out due to government secrets. Soldier...ah Soldier. Honestly one of the most straightforward classes in the game. you start off with a rocket launcher, a shotgun, and a shovel. He moves a bit slower than others, but he can hit decently hard and be the spear of a forward push into the enemy. Where this ends up being to his benefit is he's an all rounder...and rocket jumping. Yes, in clear violation of all sense he can shoot the ground and launch himself skyward. Get good at it and you can outmaneuver a scout. Spy. Suave, sophisticated, and very, very French. As said above, he is one of two unique melee wielders. his being able to backstab. A backstab will kill any non invulnerable enemy, regardless of their health. He can go invisible, and he can disguise as other players. You will not know fear and paranoia until you face a competent spy...or an enemy team running six goofballs that can barely play the class and catch you due to sheer probability from to their numbers. Though really, since there's no friendly fire, just shoving a few shotgun shells up teammates asses isn't a big deal. As said before, he hails from France, and has lovers across the country, including Scout's mother. In fact he first met her about, oh, their flings have been going on since about a year before Scout was born! Also, for this one and the medic one, they abandoned the interview style because these two...the interviewer was disposed of for 'security' reasons. Medic. As depicted, he, uhh, isn't exactly a kind individual. Really he's experimenting on his teammates. the healing's just a fun little side effect to him. The effect in this video where Heavy became invulnerable, it's one of four possible effects based on which medigun you equip. Stock causes that uber effect on you and your heal target for 8 seconds. Kritzkrieg makes your heal target deal guaranteed crit damage for eight seconds, which triples damage and negates damage falloff. Quick Fix will triple the rate of healing your medigun beam does and apply that healing to yourself, as well as make your heal target and you immune to knockback. Lastly the vaccinator will apply a bubble shield to you and your heal target for two seconds, negating 75% damage of a selected damage type, negate crit damage of that damage type entirely, and heal you 75% of the damage your heal target takes in that damage type, all while only consuming 1/4th of your ubercharge meter. Really his medical knowledge is...hellish. Literally. He actually made a deal with the devil for his medical prowess. And it's, well. You know how if WH40K Orks believe something enough it works? Yeah, his medical skills are very similar. Essentially if he's confident it will work, and his patient is not knowledgeable enough to believe otherwise, his methods work. This at one time included him scooping spilled blood from multiple people into a bucket, filtering it through a pair of used underpants, and then just pouring it into a wound. And before you ask, even though this game was set in the late 60s, No, Medic, while from Germany, was not involved with the very bad men in Germany from the 1930's to the 1940's. In fact, most of his cosmetics actually reference WW1, not WW2. Pyro. A crazed and scary beast of a man, and that's assuming, in both ways of the word man. We don't know if Pyro is a man, or is even human. Pyro, is Pyro. If it causes Fire, Pyro likes it. If it burns, Pyro loves it. Wood? Check. Propane? Check. Flesh? Ohohoho, check.
As a TF2 player, here's some things to know, 2:10 Heavy actually has names for all his miniguns 3:09 Not sure considering I was just born, but I can tell you that they are even more chaotic now 5:14 The sandvich end card says it heals 120 health, it actually heals 300 7:13 The sniper hits a collateral shot with the default (stock) sniper rifle. in the game, only a weapon called the Machina can hit collateral shots 8:33 Yes, they're used as a weapon called Jarate. enemies coated in piss take a small amount of extra damage 9:14 Missed a scene where sniper is still arguing with his parents 10:40 If you think the normal sentry is cute, you should see the mini sentry. It was so cute the community turned it into an anime girl, and then the internet did what the internet does to her 11:23 The engineer can only build one sentry, alongside one dispenser (gives health and ammo to teammates) and a teleporter entrance and exit (transports teammates from the entrance to the exit) They can be upgraded to improve their stats 12:40 He is fast, but he would probably be dead because sentries essentially have aimbot and deal insane damage 14:57 Valve is lazy. Also you missed the end scene where scout is sitting on the heavy eating the sandvich 16:14 Although grenades do explode on contact with enemies, it it hits a surface beforehand, it is considered a roller. Rollers do not explode on direct hit 17:36 He says "They got more fucking sea monsters in the great Loch Ness than they got the likes of me" 18:28 When detonated, all stickybombs go off at once, so the spy and soldier would still be alive because the walls were in the way 19:33 That electrical sound is a critical hit sound. Critical hits triple damage and remove damage falloff. So his rockets could insta-kill, but not always 20:15 Also with crits, critical rockets have a team colored fire trail, but this rocket, despite insta-killing a medic and making the sound, does not 21:03 Same here 21:51 There is a Team Fortress 2 demake on Roblox called Typical Colors 2. That game's equivalent of the spy is called the agent. Gameplay is basically the same but it's an Italian woman instead of a French man (and no she's not the scout equivalent's mother) 23:39 You can't throw sappers in game 23:42 In game, the only spy weapon that can headshot is called the Ambassador. He is using the stock revolver 24:00 These days people are much better at detecting spies. The most psychological harm spy can do is stand invisible in a corner spamming voice commands (this is a joke, good spies can still fool players if they are good at acting) 24:35 Spy cannot disguise while attacking (unless you count the Your Eternal Reward, a knife that instantly disguises you as the last person you backstabbed). He will actually lose his disguise when starting an attack (again, unless you count an Eternal Reward backstab) 24:51 There is no friendly fire. This is part of what makes spies so easy to detect 26:05 There are no homing rockets 27:32 The spy head in medic's fridge is immortal. Medic gave up on trying to kill him and instead had him help create the Medigun. 29:10 There is no medic without his doves 29:22 In Team Fortress Classic (the predecessor to TF2 and technically the second Team Fortress game because it was a remake of the original Team Fortress mod for Quake, ported to the GoldSrc engine in 1999), the sniper could shoot people in the legs, which deals less damage, but slows enemies. The only way to get rid of this slowness was with a medic 29:37 Medic can't heal demoman's eye because his eye socket is haunted 30:07 While the stock Medigun grants 8 seconds of invulnerability on an Ubercharge, the medic in this scene is using a weapon called the Quick-Fix. It's Ubercharge only triples healing speed. Even if it was the stock Medigun, the medic would also be invulnerable 30:28 Corpses don't have hitboxes 31:11 If you kill a scout by making him explode, there is a 1 in 100 chance a dove will fly away from the gore 32:15 Maps are not flammable. This entire video could not happen in game 32:24 That bubble-blowing thing he has is an actual weapon in the game called the Rainblower. Equipping it replaces blood splatters with confetti and sparkles, screaming with laughter, and changes the appearance of some maps. Aside that, it's just the stock flamethrower 32:32 No no no not pyromancer. PyroMANIAC 33:08 I don't know how you didn't need to remove the audio 33:27 Same thing with the Rainblower, that lollipop is called the Lollichop and replaces the stock fire axe Another fact: there was supposed to be a Team Fortress 2 tv show on Adult Swim. The project was cancelled because Valve is lazy, but there are rumors that another animated short called "Expiration Date" is in some way related to the scrapped pilot of the show
Also this entire set of films is animated in Valve's Source Filmmaker, which was released alongside some of the later films. It's an extremely intuitive animator software you can pretty much do anything in, as you've seen here. It and GMod are connected, a lot of those animation videos would use SFM as a way to make some shots that just didn't always look great in GMod
Valve basically made their own animation application specifically to create these animations… and then they gave it to the community! They used to give out awards for the best Source Filmmaker animations (colloquially called SFMs) every year, which would give the winners a special melee weapon in game called a Saxxy which looked a little bit like an Oscar.
In-game as Engineer can only build _one_ sentry, one dispenser, one teleporter entrance/exit, for game balance reasons. Or a regular sentry plus a mini-sentry as an Upgrade in the PvE Mann vs Machine mode (an alternate PvE game mode which pits 4 players as defenders against waves of hordes of robots sent by the evil Gray Mann). But in-universe, as seen in comics or trailers the Engineer can technically build more stuff. Also presumably the Administrator who oversees the mercs' weird 9-to-5 Gravel War limits sentries to one per battlefield on each side... For the same reason that dead mercs get respawned via a machine the BLU Engineer Dell Connagher once built on commission for the Administrator (who is heavily hinted to be an immortal witch), the same way she had already paid Dell's genius grandfather Radigan Connagher with the rare quasi-magical metal Australium to build two life extender machines for the feuding twin brothers Blutarch and Redmond Mann so that their endless feud using mercenaries would never end).
Love seeing the new gen react to "OLD SCHOOL"! Acting like an old fart Yes I know... XD Always medic or healer, nice way to see the most disturbing sides...
Fun fact: after these shorts were released, the game was updated to make references to them. The ones I know of are: • The Sniper's model now has a scar under his left eye where the Spy slashes at him (at 24:23). • Archimedes has a chance to burst out of Scout when he's killed (referencing the end of "Meet the Medic"). • And then there's a reference to "Expiration Date", which you didn't react to in this video, but is still official. PARTIAL SPOILERS BELOW: The in-game teleporter has a chance to spawn a loaf of bread each time it's used, with this chance increasing if it's the Soldier using it.
There’s a term called “Spy checking” that’s pretty self explanatory. Usually pyros are the ones to do it cuz they can ignite them on fire if they try and pretend to be a teammate. But it’s lowkey fun to spy check as a spy. I did this by turning into a teammate pyro. (Since spy can look like anyone on both red and blue team). And scary spies cuz they assume I’m a pyro so some panic and try and run away from me. So I just chase them until I get close enough to backstab them.
Such a fun experience to watch someone see these for the first time and immediately get what makes this game so brilliant. The current state of the game is... rickety, but it's still incredibly fun if you can work past its problems. We can hope for a third one to possibly drop within the next three decades. 18:06 Interestingly there was almost a full-blown TV show made for adult swim but it unfortunately fell through. The pilot episode is on youtube, it's called "Expiration Date".
Please react to TheRussianBadger. Any video. They’re all fantastic. But if I had to recommend one, do “Unstoppable Moron Makes Nuclear Apocalypse Noticeably Worse” (Fallout: New Vegas)
What you mentioned about incendiary weapons is very true, and it's why they were outlawed by the Geneva conventions. Indeed, Pyro is basically a walking list of war crimes.
As an addict of TF2 Reaction Videos (and playing the game), this was solid with great genuine reactions and interesting technical observations. But the skipped endings made me sad. Regardless, keep it up! I can tell you'll love Expiration Date!
10:44 “That turret is cute” Funny, that’s probably what someone thought when they created Mimi-Sentry. You are free to look that up, and thats just the tip of the iceberg of fan creation for this 15 year old game. Also, what no updates does to mfs.
One of the nicest little touches in Meet The Spy is that when the Spy says "right behind you", he's speaking both in-character as Scout and out of it. "Who's ready to go find this spy?" Right behind you.
Back in the day spies would use the lovely custom spray that allowed any pic to be uploaded by the user to distract the enemy.... Usually it was... Basically softcore stuff, sometimes just weird random things to catch someone's eye.
The animations are made in source filmmaker, an animation software that Valve has long since released to the public for both animations and community made content for the game
"is this how chaotic the matches were back then?"
they were and they're *_more chaotic_* now
Nothing better than joining a TF2 match, loading into the team select screen and hearing nothing but screaming.
I forgot to unload the pyro googles, now I only hear laughs everywhere 😭😭
Different kind of chaos though, like when the game first came out and nobody had mastered any classes, the game was absolutely batshit. Now, its also absolutely batshit, but in an entirely different way.
I played it yestarday. It was absolute bedlam, between all the action, one guy just screaming slurs in the voice chat, and one very strange individual with a really serious issue with furries...
@@colbyboucher6391you really are in a battlefield. Scream, gunshots, explosions, chaos and death.

"Is the spy british?"

Fun fact! Red spy actually finishes blu spy's sentence.
Blu spy: "He could be in this very room. He could be you, he could be me! He could even be..."
Red spy: "Right behind you"
(Since spy can go invisible as seen in Meet the Soldier, he could really be right behind you.
My brother... I have played this game since it went F2P

And this is the first time someone made me realize that omg
Few things about each character:
Their actual names:
Scout: Jeremy
Soldier: Jane Doe
Pyro: Unknown
Demoman: Tavish Finnegan DeGroot
Heavy: Mikhail (Misha as a nickname.)
Engineer: Dell Conagher
Medic: Mr. Ludwig
Sniper: Mr. Mundy (actual birthname being Mun Dee)
Spy: Unknown.
Where they are from:
Scout: USA, Boston
Soldier: USA, Unspecified in the midwest
Pyro: Unknown
Demoman: Scotland, specifically Ullapool i think.
Heavy: Russia, currently living in the mountains of Siberia
Engineer: USA, Texas
Medic: Germany
Sniper: Australian, originally born in New Zealand, which is basically atlantis in this universe.
Spy: France.
Some misc. Facts about the characters:
Scout: Has several brothers, is canonically Spy's son but he doesn't know it, as he never met his father i believe.
The world Pyro sees is known as "Pyroland"
Demoman: Owns his own private castle that he seemingly lives in with just his mom, also has several jobs.
This is what im talking about!! Excited to read through this
@@Mattables Enjoy the read, i still left out a good amount of fun things but i think i covered most of the really wacky and good stuff. Much like a lot of people, i love these characters dearly and am glad to share info about them. I didn't even get to talk about any of the important non-playable characters, but rest assured, A lot of the side cast is often just as likeable and memorable.
@@Mattables Fun fact! In the TF2 Universe, Texas is actually NOT a part of the USA, its its own country

Look, here is a comparison between Mercy and The Medic
Mercy is a steorotypical angel
The Medic is a biblically accurate angel
BE NOT AFRAID!!
WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS COVERED IN EYEBALLS.
Medic is not any kind of angel. He is a straight-up monster, and I would not ask him where he was in the 1940s...
@@rayanderson5797 I know, it's a representation, and everyone knows where he was in the 1940s. . .
@@KidV0lt Nope. Robin Walker, the then head developer of TF2 (back when there was an entire TF2 dev team at Valve) explicitely stated in an interview in the late 2000s that "The Medic was never a Nazi. We _could_ have made him a Nazi, but that would have been too easy."
The description of one of the Medic's older hats, the _Medic's Mountain Cap,_ vaguely implies that Medic _was_ in WW2, though, taking part in the Ardennes Offensive (aka. the Battle of the Bulge) as a young field surgeon; as the hat's description reads _"The men in his unit called him 'The Bavarian Butcher'"._
Notice that neither Stuttgart nor the town of Rottenburg (canonically Medic's origin home town since the 2013 Two Cities update) lie in the federal state of Bavaria, but instead in Baden-Württemberg, specifically in the ancient region of Swabia.
Not to mention that the thing about expiration date, was that was actually the pilot episode for an actual tf2 show that adult swim would pick up, but due to a disagreement with run time and ad time, they didn't go through with it.
don't forget EOTL which is semi canonical + the comics
This playlist is not arranged in order of release. MT Sniper was released some time after the game was released, whereas Soldier, Demo, Heavy and Engy vids were released before the game.
"You can't record this in game..."
Actually, you can, and it was, all of it.
A few other rapid-fire comments:
Engineer has 4 types of sentry gun. Apologies.)
Scout has many melee weapons which make obnoxious sounds when they hit people, including the likes of a cardboard wrapping paper tube, and a fish.
Fire.
Back then? nah bro its EVEN MORE CHAOTIC NOW. This game is actually just the greatest. 3:05
these were made in SFM or source film maker which is a program that anyone can use and a lot of funny videos are made with it but when you use SFM you have access to the assets of basically any valve game with 3d models (that runs on source)
Here's a small list detailing the functions of each class because I'm a bit autistic.
Scout: Glass Cannon Flanker
- Residential flanker, with the fastest running speed in the game, a double jump, and a high damage shotgun, Scout is able to speed into the back lines to wipe out high priority picks and capture objectives. Extremely mobile and deadly at close range, at the cost of being very fragile and being weaker at mid to long range.
Soldier: Generalist Power Pick
- Versatile power class, able to switch between offense and defense with his high damage area denying rockets. Has a slow running speed but is able to launch himself in the air with his rockets, providing him the single strongest movement option, at the cost of his health. Weaker at close range, but has secondary options to mitigate the weakness, like his melee and shotgun.
Pyro: Offense-Support Hybrid
- An odd blend between offense and support. His close ranged flamethrower make him good for head on attacks and area denial. Additionally has the ability to reflect projectiles and enemies, making him good at defending high priority teammates from flanking power classes. His easy to spam flames makes him a hard counter to spy. Weak to enemies that can outrange him.
Demoman: Offensive Power Pick
- Highly deadly power class.
Heavy: Residential Tank
- Defensive powerhouse. While he is the slowest moving class in the game, with little mobility options, he makes up for it for being a monster at head on combat and denying pushes. Has the largest health pool, making him very strong at one on one encounters. His slow movement speed makes him very vulnerable to snipers and focus fire.
Enginner - Premier Defense
- The defense class.
Sniper: The Pick Class
- The long ranged glass cannon, able to deal 150 damage with a quick scope headshot, instantly killing more than five out of nine classes at max health. Also able to charge shots, making able to instantly kill any class from any range at max charge. Very weak at close combat.
Spy: Worse, but cooler Sniper
The second hardest class to play.

"are those pee cups?" Yes, yes they are, and sniper THROWS them at people. He created a whole martial arts system called Jarate, which on contact makes you take more damage in-game. 8:33
JARATE, THE JAR BASED KARATE
nah, he didn't create jarate. He got some pills from Mann co that quadrupled the size of his kidneys and included instructions on how to weaponize the results.
But you can also use them to put out teammates who are on fire
@@rjthom5 Sniper WOULD piss on his teammates if they were on fire, apparently.
and the reason you take more damage?
shame.
yes you take mini crits because of the shame of getting a jar of piss thrown at you.
If you liked it, there are a few things TF2 related that you probably will enjoy:
-The official TF2 standalone short "Expiration Date"
-LazyPurple's "How it feels" videos, explaining every class in the game (in a very goofy, meme way with SFM bits)
-And last but not least, Team Fabulous 2.
It was originally gonna be the pilot of a Team Fortress 2 TV series in collaboration with Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, but the deal fell through, so it became part of the Love and War update.

pyro is really fun in this game because if you press mouse 2 you can shoot a blast of air and it will redirect (almost) any non hitscan projectile in the direction you are aiming and will also make it a critical
there's two main reasons why Valve never made TF3:
1: the game has transactions where you can buy cosmetics like weapon paints, hats, outfits etc., so it's still making decent amounts of money: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, valve likes money
2: TF2 is already so different from the original Team Fortress, which was a Quake mod in the 90s, and Valve didn't really make big developments game engine wise until they made source 2 a few years ago, which they made a new counterstrike version on, and most of their programmers have since been working on a different game that tries to somehow combine many very different shooter game types: Deadlock, which you mentioned in the beginning. I recommend trying both Deadlock and Team Fortress 2 for a bit, TF2 has still a really active player base and the big bot problem we had seems to have been fixed now, so right now is the best possible time for newbies to hop into a casual game in years
Also, Valve is not able to count to 3
4: Valve can't count to t h r e e
17:22 demoman's grenades will explode on impact if they hit an enemy player without touching anything else
I recommend watching lazy purple’s “how it feels to play ____” series. It’s a series of comedic tutorials for each of the characters.
Still waiting on medic :(
i cant tell you how much it warms my heart that new people are still finding out about team fortress 2, its a masterpiece THAT WILL NEVER DIE!!!
Did not expect you to react to this, but im really happy you did. You should also react to the "Expiration Date" which is also an official tf2 animation, similar to these but its about 15 minutes long and its really good
Expiration Date was the pilot for a canceled TF2 animated series. I forget the details but for one reason or another it never came to fruition
Winglet SFM and Crash Maul
"I've done nothing but teleport bread for 3 days." 😂
These were all made in an animation program called SFM (Source FilmMaker) which is an animation, editing, and all-round digital filmmaking toolkit packaged with all of Valve's Source games. It is also infamously nightmarish to use.
Nightmarish to use? Props to the S P I C Y video creators then.
There's a short film made officially with all the dudes here, its called "expiration date"! Great video as always :>
Im impressed how you almost you named every class. I just loved how tf2’s design tells you exactly what they are
This is the game that inspired overwatch
4:02 Love that "Meet the s... the s... 👀". Yeah. Sandvich. This is also important part of the team xDDDDDD
14:53 Same reason for no Portal 3 or half life 3, Valve doesn't know how to count to 3
The rabbit hole has been discovered
This video is just good fun. It comes from an era when people went WILD with creativity and it's honestly surprising how well the animation still holds up.
The fact that the quality holds up so well can probably in large part be credited to the creative decision to give the game such a cartoony art style rather than trying for realism.
24:00 Yeah, one of the techniques for the Pyro was to run around the base tap-spraying people with the flamethrower to spy-check since it's easy to aim and has lots of ammo...also kinda why the Pyro video is just him going around burning everyone...
If you want to learn more about the classes then I would recomend watching videos by Lazy Purple on each class.
30:54 there is an overheal mechanic but that is an ability is only accessible if you have fully charged a bar and yes is makes you completely immune to all damage
"He needs to see the doctor." He did see the doctor. He locked the doctor into a shed and burned it. XD
Thats how chaotic the matches are NOW
There's an analog horror(?) series called angel Hare made by a channel call the east patch that needs to get more attension. They've just started realising season 3 of the series and the first two are such a good watch.
ooh thanks for letting me know season 3 was happening
I love that these videos are still getting reacted to and shown around, old valve games were truly something special.
So some stuff I noticed as I went
Beautiful names for the characters at the start there, spot on
And yes, the Jar of piss is a real weapon in tf2, its called "Jarate" as in "Jar Based Karate", and when you hit an enemy with it, they take more damage.
And when sniper says "Be Polite", that move he's doing where he puts his hat over his heart is an actual taunt you can do in the game, you even get an achievement for it lol
So the main setting for TF2 takes place around australia I believe as well, but each class has their own national origins for sure!
For the engineer, that counter next to him is a real thing in-game, they're called Strange items, and if its on a cosmetic item, it counts the points you earn while playing a match, and can level up to get a new prefix for the hat, for weapons it tracks kills, also giving them new prefixes after so many kills!
And if you think that level 1 sentry is cute, you should see the literal "mini-sentry" you can get through weapon drops lol
Also its only 1 sentry per player sadly, unless you play Mann vs Machine in which case you can get an upgrade to get a mini-sentry to build as well!
You can also build teleporters to move your team to the front line.
Scout! He does actually move that fast, and funner fact, he can dodge bullets if he drinks a radioactive energy drink called "Bonk: Atomic punch"
Demoman, he is scottish, and according to the tf2 comics, he holds several jobs beyond his mercenary work, and its still not enough for his fully blind mother, who holds somehow MORE jobs than him.
Canonically, spy is scouts father, and meet the spy proves it, along with the tf2 comics
Spies, if you're team is more aware of their surroundings than a house fly, should be able to tell if someone is a spy, some giveaways are if no one is playing a class the spy is disguised as, or if the spy disguises as a scout, they will walk slower and will never double jump (which the scout can do in-game).
Spy was french
The medic has a medigun, as you saw, and he has several different ones, all of them require you to heal your teammates to 'charge' them, and when the charge is full, you can unleash their power onto your teammates!
Medic isn't Mercy, Medic is what Mercy wishes she could be
His medi-gun also overheals most targets, which can put heavy players up to 400+ HP in overheal, which is insane to deal with sometimes. But most players don't play medic lol
And yea, medic has a needle-gun that most players never use cause its bad, theres a weapon called the crusaders crossbow that can heal teammates from far away, but its a projectile, and its still the most used, and best imo weapon for medic to use.
And last fun fact about the medic, that ending scene with Scout, after that came out they made it a 1/20 chance that a dove will fly out of a scout if they explode lol
Finally, pyro, yea they're insane, people have fought for years over the gender of pyro, its never been really revealed ever. In the tf2 comics they did reveal that the original pyro from team fortress Classic was female, and after they added the meet the pyro video, they added those crazy-land items like the trumpet flamethrower, lolipop axe, and other fun items, along with "pyrovision" goggles, which if you equip the pyrovision goggles, or any of the new pyroland items, some maps would be changed to reflect the change by making them all pastel colored, and giving everyone else high-pitched sounding voicelines
I main any class thats needed to fit a niche tbh, except medic and engineer, if I can help it at least, they're fun but omg is it hard to be good at them when you have the biggest target on your back or a million things to take care of.
this is crazy i was just watching like 10 reactions to meet the team, and here is yours now lmao

Hey! great vid as always :D
Funnily enough they were going to have a tf2 series with adult swim! the pilot is on youtube and I'd highly recommend it as well as some of the other shorts (like Jungle Inferno or the fan short End of The Line (there's also an entire fan horror film called Emesis Blue)), personally I don't know the exact reason the series never took off but they also have a comic run on their website that is still ongoing! I'd be curious to see your reaction to the history/lore of tf2 as it's kinda ridiculous but also highly entertaining,,
The two I love maining are probably Medic and Engineer!
We all know he's gotta see Expiration Date next.
"Lamas with hats" is a good series in UA-cam
I want him to watch the Pootis series.
Like if you agree
Fun fact: In the update that Meet the Spy was released for, the Sniper's character model was updated to give him a barely visible scar on his face in the same spot the Spy slashes him in the video.
Also, if you want to see more of this glorious, insane universe, there are a lot of other animated shorts and official webcomics you can watch/read, but the following are my strongest recommendations:
1) Expiration Date: A good introduction to a major supporting character who's an ally to the team.
That's the fun thing about the TF2 characters, they're all their own special brand of insane
Honestly, the TF2 animations feel timeless, I think they'll always hold up pretty well.
Who needs Deadlock? The superior Valve multiplayer game is right here
Valve seems to need it.
Btw, it's really fun, but the rounds take long.
Still TF2 > Deadlock, but it's Valve Standard.
engie in TF2 can only build one turret at a time; here though more were added likely to showcase the 3 levels the turret has (the small one, two minigund, and 2 miniguns with a rocket launcher added on top), though that one turret is EXTREMELY powerful and can kill any player entering its range and line of sight in seconds when fully upgraded
Fun fact: Meet The Sandvich was most, if not 100% improvised by the VAs.
Expiration Date is amazing. You have to see that.

As other people have said: if you enjoyed this then you should watch the "Expiration Date" short film, it was essentially a pilot episode for a Team Fortress 2 TV series for Adult Swim that never developed into a full series for a number of reasons, but it's made by Valve themselves in the same Source Filmmaker tool they used to create all of the shorts and it's a really funny showcase of all of the cast interacting with a bit more background about the world
Absolutly react to it. Experation date has so many memorable quotes that it makes me laugh all the time.
Back then??
Me:😂😂😂😂 BOY, GET AN ACCOUNT!!🤣🤣🤣
For example, Soldier has many different rocket launchers, like the Direct Hit (A rocket launcher that trades explosion radius for way more direct damage) or the Rocket Jumper (a rocket launcher that deals no damage and allows you to rocket jump with taking any damage) and tons more, and that’s just his primary.
so, two things about meet the sandvich
Valve has always added downsides to any upsides of a weapon
Heavy is not a big talker.
I Love tf2 it's still very good and can you react to how it feels to play the spy and the other characters from lazy purple pls
YES, I'm watching for both you and TF2 btw (My main is Spy)
As a TF2 player, here's some things to know,
2:10 Heavy actually has names for all his miniguns
3:09 Not sure considering I was just born, but I can tell you that they are even more chaotic now
5:14 The sandvich end card says it heals 120 health, it actually heals 300
7:13 The sniper hits a collateral shot with the default (stock) sniper rifle. in the game, only a weapon called the Machina can hit collateral shots
8:33 Yes, they're used as a weapon called Jarate. enemies coated in piss take a small amount of extra damage
9:14 Missed a scene where sniper is still arguing with his parents
10:40 If you think the normal sentry is cute, you should see the mini sentry. It was so cute the community turned it into an anime girl, and then the internet did what the internet does to her
11:23 The engineer can only build one sentry, alongside one dispenser (gives health and ammo to teammates) and a teleporter entrance and exit (transports teammates from the entrance to the exit) They can be upgraded to improve their stats
12:40 He is fast, but he would probably be dead because sentries essentially have aimbot and deal insane damage
14:57 Valve is lazy. Also you missed the end scene where scout is sitting on the heavy eating the sandvich
16:14 Although grenades do explode on contact with enemies, it it hits a surface beforehand, it is considered a roller. Rollers do not explode on direct hit
17:36 He says "They got more fucking sea monsters in the great Loch Ness than they got the likes of me"
18:28 When detonated, all stickybombs go off at once, so the spy and soldier would still be alive because the walls were in the way
19:33 That electrical sound is a critical hit sound. Critical hits triple damage and remove damage falloff. So his rockets could insta-kill, but not always
20:15 Also with crits, critical rockets have a team colored fire trail, but this rocket, despite insta-killing a medic and making the sound, does not
21:03 Same here
21:51 There is a Team Fortress 2 demake on Roblox called Typical Colors 2. That game's equivalent of the spy is called the agent. Gameplay is basically the same but it's an Italian woman instead of a French man (and no she's not the scout equivalent's mother)
23:39 You can't throw sappers in game
23:42 In game, the only spy weapon that can headshot is called the Ambassador. He is using the stock revolver
24:00 These days people are much better at detecting spies. The most psychological harm spy can do is stand invisible in a corner spamming voice commands (this is a joke, good spies can still fool players if they are good at acting)
24:35 Spy cannot disguise while attacking (unless you count the Your Eternal Reward, a knife that instantly disguises you as the last person you backstabbed). He will actually lose his disguise when starting an attack (again, unless you count an Eternal Reward backstab)
24:51 There is no friendly fire. This is part of what makes spies so easy to detect
26:05 There are no homing rockets
27:32 The spy head in medic's fridge is immortal. Medic gave up on trying to kill him and instead had him help create the Medigun.
29:10 There is no medic without his doves
29:22 In Team Fortress Classic (the predecessor to TF2 and technically the second Team Fortress game because it was a remake of the original Team Fortress mod for Quake, ported to the GoldSrc engine in 1999), the sniper could shoot people in the legs, which deals less damage, but slows enemies. The only way to get rid of this slowness was with a medic
29:37 Medic can't heal demoman's eye because his eye socket is haunted
30:07 While the stock Medigun grants 8 seconds of invulnerability on an Ubercharge, the medic in this scene is using a weapon called the Quick-Fix. It's Ubercharge only triples healing speed. Even if it was the stock Medigun, the medic would also be invulnerable
30:28 Corpses don't have hitboxes
31:11 If you kill a scout by making him explode, there is a 1 in 100 chance a dove will fly away from the gore
32:15 Maps are not flammable. This entire video could not happen in game
32:24 That bubble-blowing thing he has is an actual weapon in the game called the Rainblower. Equipping it replaces blood splatters with confetti and sparkles, screaming with laughter, and changes the appearance of some maps. Aside that, it's just the stock flamethrower
32:32 No no no not pyromancer. PyroMANIAC
33:08 I don't know how you didn't need to remove the audio
33:27 Same thing with the Rainblower, that lollipop is called the Lollichop and replaces the stock fire axe
Another fact: there was supposed to be a Team Fortress 2 tv show on Adult Swim.
XD
Always medic or healer, nice way to see the most disturbing sides...
Engineer, Sentry Gun goes: beep, beep, bang.
Fun fact: after these shorts were released, the game was updated to make references to them. The ones I know of are:
• The Sniper's model now has a scar under his left eye where the Spy slashes at him (at 24:23).
• Archimedes has a chance to burst out of Scout when he's killed (referencing the end of "Meet the Medic").
• And then there's a reference to "Expiration Date", which you didn't react to in this video, but is still official. PARTIAL SPOILERS BELOW:
The in-game teleporter has a chance to spawn a loaf of bread each time it's used, with this chance increasing if it's the Soldier using it.
"IS THIS HOW CHAOTIC MATCHES WERE BACK THEN!?!?"
Back then? Man, you got this chaos to this day!
The spy`s "your mother " joke will remain undefeated for eternety. Fucking gold
Fun (canon) facts about The Soldier class!
His Legal name is Jane Doe, and he drinks lead-poisoned water
Funny thing is TF2 was crazy in games and still crazy in game
As an addict of TF2 Reaction Videos (and playing the game), this was solid with great genuine reactions and interesting technical observations. But the skipped endings made me sad.
Regardless, keep it up! I can tell you'll love Expiration Date!
I like the nails
"my blood, h-he punched out all my blood" is permanently engraved into my mind
10:44 “That turret is cute”
Funny, that’s probably what someone thought when they created Mimi-Sentry.
You are free to look that up, and thats just the tip of the iceberg of fan creation for this 15 year old game. Also, what no updates does to mfs.
8:31 - ah, yes. The "jarate". Makes a debuff to enemies. Can unmasked Spys and make them visible
One of the nicest little touches in Meet The Spy is that when the Spy says "right behind you", he's speaking both in-character as Scout and out of it. "Who's ready to go find this spy?" Right behind you.
Different spy mate
Back in the day spies would use the lovely custom spray that allowed any pic to be uploaded by the user to distract the enemy.... Usually it was... Basically softcore stuff, sometimes just weird random things to catch someone's eye.
3:09 yes. And they are still like that to this day
The animations are made in source filmmaker, an animation software that Valve has long since released to the public for both animations and community made content for the game
14:54 oh, buddy...
