It's great to see the military pov on these kind of media, specially veterans like you, because mostly what is considered a little "unnecessary" or "wrong" actually makes sense within the universe of the content.
For example, the lots of sneaking is because they deal with anomalous entities, objects, locations and events in a daily basis. It doesn't matter how detailed the briefing and reports are, you don't mess nor underestimate the anomalies. The amount of resources available for a seemly small raid is justifiable because you never know when a crack on reality, a portal or a monster might appear.
It's real world mocked up by a hundred.

Well said! Which is another thing i like about SCP stories in media, stuff like advancing with weapons at the ready does make a bit more sense considering the SCP setting it takes place in. Because for all they know there might very well be anomalies/creatures/cultits/SCP's waiting for them the moment they set foot on the ground, no matter what the intel says beforehand they still gotta be prepared for the most unworldly dangers the moment they jump off whatever transport they're on. Because of the nature of the SCP framework the suspension of disbelief becomes a lot easier to handle, at least in my opinion.

the scp stories are basically a collection of fan-written horror stories, that fit into the setting of a world wide operating, secret foundation most countries are part of. The video depicts one of the taskforces gathering as much as possible on a newly discovered anomaly/scp. The stories themselfs are styled as classified and partly redacted documents that describe the information gathered about an anomaly, as well as experiments held to determine how to contain or neutralise the threat they pose. Many of the stories are quite grotesque but interesting. "The Volgun" for example narrates these stories very nicely. Hope this isn't too long XD, loved the video, cheers :)

at 3:47, "amnestic treatment" means they were given drugs that would give you amnesia. in the SCP lor and writings its used as a plot device. some people don't like it because it encourages bad writing. anyway its like the blue flashy thing in the men in black series. commonly used on the public.
as for the overwhelming power in using artillery and air units primary objectives as follows.
secure: secure the location and stop, mitigate, and/or neutralize any anomalous threats.
contain: contain any anomalous entities or artifacts
protect: protect both the public and the anomaly from coming in contact with the general public and, stop others from obtaining, interacting, or knowing about the anomaly. (outside the scp foundation(mostly))

So a few context questions to answer:
The exact nature of the group is that they are a Mobile Task Force for the SCP Foundation. Not any military and are completely fictional. Basically imagine Rainbow Six but entirely designed to fight, capture, and quarantine paranormal and extradimensional anomalies or entities.
They don't have air backup because the air surrounding the compound is potentially dangerous. The floating humanoids remember. Until they know know its safe they aren't gonna send any helicopters.
Also the reason they were in the compound so long is because they don't just clear the place out but basically are detectives who gotta turn the whole place upside down looking for anything noteworthy hence why they went through the laptop randomly.

This is a battalion-strength MTF that provides support in containing difficult anomalies, while also send in to really bad anomaly breaches in the SCP Foundation. Then we have Zeta 9, reffered to as "Mole Rats". They are tasked with containing underground anomalies, as well as dimensionel ones. This MTF has the highest mortality rates in all of the MTFs. Then we have Lambda 5, also known as "White Rabbits" They are send in against reality benders. Nu 13 are called "Ghostbusters" and handle all supernaturel anomalies. And last but not least Beta 7, also known as "Maz Hatters". They are tasked with containing infectious and pandemic anomalies, such as SCP 008, the "Zombie Virus".

Killing or destroying this one semi-dangerous anomaly could lead to the destruction of the human race or the planet might blow up, they don't know (something that in the SCP-universe, in some canons, has happened on several occasions, don't worry though, there are enough cloning-vats to go around for everybody).

Thought things such as effects, the entire place they rented, all the other props and ofc. the actors (because they still need a place to stay etc. and im sure this wasnt filmed just around the corner from their home) all cost a decend amount of money. So even with the around 20k they had for this short movie, they were still running on a very, very tight budget.

  • @IamSilent121
    @IamSilent121 3 роки тому +492

I love how often you're asking questions as to why any of this is happening. That's the magic of what makes this short film so creepy. The only thing more terrifying than the horrors you see before you are the horrors you DON'T see. "Stephen King once wrote that “Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there's little fun to be had in explanations; they're antithetical to the poetry of fear.” In a horror story, the victim keeps asking "Why?" But there can be no explanation, and there shouldn't be one."
What is remembered when you finish a horror movie or a scary book is that unanswered mystery of "Why?" The only thing more horrific than what is explained to you is what is left to doubt. Human imagination is the key factor in deciding just how horrific something is, that is the difference between horror and terror. Horror is that jumpscare in that movie you watched, or that video game you played.
Five Nights at Freddy's is a good sign of Horror in a video game for example. There is a clear threat; the animatronics. And when they get you, you know its going to jumpscare you. And eventually, the horror loses its effectiveness because you know that if you lose you're just going to get jumpscared. Nothing is left up to the imagination anymore. The unknown factor is lost the longer you play something with a horror based loop.
A game I like to chalk up to Terror, is Subnautica. I am Thalassaphobic (A person with an uncontrollable fear of deep, large bodies of water; the ocean). So that game is perfect for this. How fear works in Subnautica compared to the Horror of FNAF, is that it doesn't need cheap jumpscares to make you leap out of your skin. Subnautica is NOT at all built to be a horror game, but in some twisted way, it turned out like that regardless. The horror, of Subnautica, stems from this Terror.
Terror, is fear that creates tension or apprehension in a person based on the stimuli surrounding them. It is the fear generated from your own imagination. Asking "what if" all the time. What if: something grabs my leg? What if: the burglar finds me? What if: the plane crashes? These things might not even happen, but its the IDEA of it actually happening that raises a persons tension, and instills a fear through that apprehension and stress.
In subnautica there are these large, predatory fish known as Leviathans in the open ocean of Subnautica. The first time you meet one you're going to experience that instant horror as it chases you down. Now, lets say you find yourself back at a trench you'd explored before. Its deep, dark, and you never actually reached the bottom before. But lets say you got to 298 meters down before you had to resurface. It was no biggy... nothing happened that first time.
But now... suddenly your mind snaps back to that Leviathan experience. Its roar getting closer behind you as it chased you down. Now you look into this trench. And you ask... "What if there is a Leviathan down inside there?" Now you're apprehensive to go down, your stress level is higher than it was before. Because now your imagination is rampantly searching for ANY signs of trouble. Constantly seeing images of that Leviathans face coming at you from the dark depths of the ocean waters just ahead of you... but is it actually there? Oh! No you're just seeing things... until you're not! XD
    NOW THAT IS FEAR.

pretty sure many ppl found fnaf scary not cuz of its jumpscares, but rather the animatronics uncanniness. scott cawthon, the creator, made fnaf in the first place cuz of the game he had made previously, where ppl criticised it for the characters being uncanny.
anyways tho, idk how many ppl experience terror from fnaf (i doubt most ppl experience much terror rly), but there is an audience with that perception of the game and it was made with that kind of perception in mind. i definitely agree with u in that subnautica is a great example of terror, and one i can def see most ppl recieve that type of reaction
its uncanny cuz the animatronics are supposed to be somewhat lifeless robots, with its only purpose as to cheer up the children in the day with simple lines of code and recordings. its giving life to an object not meant to have life

If they cannot capture said object because it's too dangerous or too large, so they secure the entire area.

MTF's (Mobile Task Forces) are the task forces deployed for combat and containment.
MTF Nu-7 "Hammer Down" is a battalion-strength force consisting of three company-sized elements of special operations infantry forces, a light armored vehicle company, tank platoon, helicopter squadron, chemical-biological-radiological-nuclear (CBRN) platoon, combat engineer platoon, nuclear weapon specialist (NWS) squad, plus additional combat specialist and support personnel.
MTF Epsilon-6 "Village Idiots" Specializes in the investigation, containment, and subsequent cleanup of anomalies in rural and suburban environments.
MTF Zeta-9 "Mole Rats" specializes in the investigation, exploration, and containment of underground or enclosed areas exhibiting anomalous phenomena, particularly those with inconsistent topography or unstable spacetime.
MTF Mu-13 "Ghostbusters" specializes in the tracking, analysis, and containment of incorporeal or intangible manifestations and entities, particularly those believed to be sentient, sapient, or otherwise intelligent and adaptive.
MTF Beta-7 "Maz Hatters" specializes in the acquisition and containment of anomalies exhibiting extreme biological, chemical, or radiological hazards as well as the rapid containment and cleanup of areas affected by such anomalies.
MTF Lambda-5 "White Rabbits" specializes in traversing unstable, surreal, and controlled reality, and containing potentially dangerous persons and artifacts capable of manipulating space and time.
MTF Gamma-5 "Red Herrings" specializes in preventing the dissemination of knowledge of anomalous events or phenomena in cases where initial suppression efforts have proven ineffective or insufficient, or in cases where such knowledge has already reached critical levels of public exposure.

Ok so for background to anyone who’s interested: the whole idea with this is that the scp foundation (secure contain protect) does what the name implies with anomalous objects, locations, and other nouns. In its original form the scp foundation is a horror website where users write and submit descriptions of anomalous objects, as well as how they secure them, for review by other users, I believe the number of scps now stands upwards of 5000 unique entries. The operator’s depicted in this short film are mtf (mobile task force), their job is to enter places where anomalous things have occurred, and clear immediate threats to allow more specialized containment teams to enter and contain the anomalous materials

For example various SCP 'operators' or whatever someone would like to call them, basically functions like a mix of PMCs, paranormal investigators, recognizance and to a certain degree scientists all rolled into one because 99% of the time they have no clue what kind of supernatural/alien shenanigans they might run into. The reason why you hear so many accents in the film is because the SCP foundation is a global organization, which "recruits" are of various descent. They act so calm despite the shit that you see in the film because well... It's just another day on the job for them. They contain hazardous anomalies and do the dirty work that isn't fit for lab workers. They wear gas masks simply due to the nature of the job; anomalies can be hazardous for a person's health, and they don't want their valuable MTF troops to die because an anomaly is a breathing hazard. Also, the mole rats (MTF Unit ZETA-9) are an MTF unit responsible for investigating underground/enclosed spaces, and it's understandable why you wouldn't want to be a mole rat, because they have the highest mortality rate among all the MTF units.

Dont know exactly what the cognito hazard was, but it didnt happen until Besson looked in the camera. Funny thing was Besson might have possibly been safe if he didnt clear his fogged lens.

@@zarkento4881 a cognito hazard is basically something that is dangerous via the use of your senses, AKA, your Eyesight, Hearing, Feel, Taste, Smell, etc. Basically, looking at it will kill you, or actually, it will cause you to kill yourself, it was so out of this world that the guy made the decision on the spot that it wasn't worth living in that world any more.
it reminded me of an incident with the Coffee Machine SCP, it basically gives you whatever you want, the guy asked for the "perfect drink", after that he killed himself because he thought that everything was a disappointment and that the world wasn't worth living in because he had expirienced what it was to drink liquid pleasure.
In Short, a Cognito Hazard is something that causes damage to your body via the use of your 5 senses, in this case, Looking at it seems to be the main issue here.
To touch up on other stuff, The Camera is the only thing able to see the anomalies, they are otherwise invisable and unable to be detected through regular means, also those holes they found are actually were the giant tentacles are coming from, they are the ones holding the victims up in the air, and they are the ones that Dragged that guy out of the screen, you can see Kolinski sending a ChemLight down one, indicating that it was vacant.
Anyway have that is all my opinion, it might not be true, its just what i believe is happening here.

there is also this SCP, its a Musical Sheet, and if you look at it, it will cause you to go insane, and go "i must finish it!" but instead of grabbing a pen or something...no, you rip off your wrist and use the blood to write the music, and then you bleed out, this is another example of a Cognito Hazard, again, the problem here is the Eyesight.

Yeah, especially when both NODS and infared were being tried to no effect. Not going to be fun for the guys doing containment.

I love watching reaction videos of people who don't know of SCP, gives a whole new light to it all. But yeah the short film is about a organization that handles out of this world anomalies and mortality rate in this line of work is very high

Although the film had some faults, it was ultimately fun to watch. It led me to this video, and I enjoyed watching this one as well.
Of course, there might be some things that the SCPF would do that the Marines or the Army might not, since the opposing force they are facing is very different, much more powerful, and can have the potential to end the world.
Nice little video, cool to see him react to it, but given the fact that this is the SCPF, it's expected the operatives would do something others won't think of doing (like try to interact with the entities if they weren't hostile outright, remember that they try to contain the anomalies instead of shooting them)
