It’s incredible how terrible the Tory party are
A leopard 🐆 never changes it's spots. The worst government in my lifetime
@@adamsimmons631 So true
Nothing surprises me with these liars and crooks
More than terrible Tories are corrupt, horrendous vile people the lowest of the low. Heinous government.
They are parasites bleeding the country dry.
A gang of dodgy car salesman
If you've uncovered a secret deep enough that people are trying to sue you to keep you quiet, you know you're doing something right
He wasn’t going to sue, he was threatening litigation to stop enquiry and exposure. If he had sued that would have led to discovery of his tax documents, which may have proven criminality. The last thing he wanted to do was to go to court.
I mean, when they threaten to sue they are small fry.
Try to ask anyone who had similar dirt on either of the Clinton family, oh wait... you can't.
Unfortunately he nearly got away with his crime and did silence people for a while
@@SqwarkParrotSpittingFeathers I'm sure the met police QRF was getting ready to arm them self to protect this mp from the law.
The whole culture of suing someone is pretty pathetic imo. Unless you are worth millions. Not my world. These people are very unhappy individuals with more money than morals.
This isn’t the first time Nadhim Zahawi has made a innocent mistake just like the time he was claiming heating allowance to keep his horses warm in his stables, whilst pensioners are freezing. Zahawi is worth 200million and scrounges of the taxpayer.
That was 'the cottage' which turned out to be a small farm?
"Look after the £1000's and the £millions will look after themselves" I think is the old millionaire's saying...
@@johnjephcote7636. Did you see his interview? He said “my wife and I bought a cottage and it came with a riding school. I was advised to claim allowances for both of them. Always someone else’s fault.
Exactly. And these criminals have the cheek to tell nurses that they need to learn how to budget.
Its in his blood. Fear of being less rich. Corrupt as a nine pound note. Get rid.
If he wasn't trying to avoid tax, he wouldn't have gone through all the effort to set up in gibraltar, set up a trust, and 'give' all those shares to his dad. Doing this and then threatening people who uncover it isn't 'careless'. It's deliberate, it's malicious and it's criminal.
Hmm - He ain't heavy, he's my father!
Didn't Boris Becker go to prison for something similar?
@@minimoog4236 he did.
Just lock the toe rag up for a long time.
If he did nothing wrong why threaten to sue?
Setting up an offshore trust is not careless it's a wilful act
Are you telling me you never accidentally set up an offshore tax shelter? Surely that's a mistake we've all made at some point! /s

If he's that "careless" he shouldn't be in government
Careless is another word for avoidance with the rich....he is rich enough to get correct advice.
The solicitors who sent threating letters should also be charged ,aiding and abetting tax evasion
I think the solicitors in question did get a warning from the SRA on the back of a complaint about the letters.
Harassment, mental torment. Sue the bstrds.

This guy is a hero. He easily could've kept quiet after being threatened
So now he has been caught twice fiddling his monetary affairs...
Makes you wonder how many times he's got away with it!
Zahawi is my MP 😔...remember folks that he is the guy that used tax payers' money (through expenses) to heat up his stables. Now, I know gas and electricity are dear, but given that his net worth is estimated at around £100m, you'd think he'd be able to look after his pet horses himself.

blair was as bad, he paid himself through none existant companies and got away with it
That's because the media is part of the corruption

I read this in the guardian. It's in the financial Times and BBC amongst others.
It is now but long after some of the early work these journalists did to uncover it. I would say this was a matter of public interest from the 1st minute it was uncover yet the majority of the media are more concerned with Harry and Meghan, I wonder why?
He has form, he is one piece of work.
All completely above board. He tripped and accidentally fell into an offshore trust and his millions must have fallen out of his pocket and into the account. He then forgot about the whole thing.
Banged his head. Could happen to anyone.
He should be in prison for taxevasion like so many others who have in the past.
If an ordinary citizen had done this they would be facing a jail sentence now.
For sure 😤😤😡😠
Oh most definitely I totally agree with you 😡😠
Respect to this guy for looking into this and making it public. How corrupt are our politicians, I think all we see and hear is a literal drop in the ocean.
Utter despicable people, out of all the mps who "represent" us how many are not in it for themselves and milking every expense/claim they can....not many I bet.

They’re all the same is what corrupt politicians want us to believe so we don’t vote in anyone less corrupt.
It’s Tory propaganda, if they can persuade the electorate to believe ALL politicians are the same corrupt criminals, then it lessens the stench of Tory criminality.

The lawyers who were complicit in covering this up should be penalised.
Well it's such a trivial amount of money really .....🤬.....Zahawi's tenure should end now. Along with the rest of the Tories.

Well text 🥶
Nobody with the kind of money Zahawi has, makes this kind of mistake with their finances. They pay accountants to look for these kinds of 'loopholes', they tell those accountants what kind of risk they're willing to bear. Zahawi only believes he was careless in getting caught.
It sounds as if he may have made many mistakes but nobody corrected him
Exactly. Trying to explain it as carelessness is easier than admitting it was an attempt to mitigate taxes, on a massive scale, under advice, that failed.
In addition, those accountants would’ve explained how close to the edge of the envelope the planning was.
Absolutely spot on I’ve not encountered any accountants who make careless mistakes involving millions total cop out by Zahawi. Cops should be investigating 😂😂
Lester Piggott spent 3 years in jail for tax evasion in 1987 for failing to declare £3.25 million. 36 years later, Nadhim Zahawi fails to declare £3.7 million, and he just gets a fine and a slap on the wrist. Seriously EVERYONE who has ever spent any time in prison over tax evasion should appeal their convictions, using Nadhim as their benchmark. It would be quite interesting to watch that unfold.
£27m...
agree totally.
Ah, as Zahawi would probably say, a pound ain't what it was back in 1987...
Most of his income was going in tax as the top rate was 60% in 1987.
Really don't blame Lester.
Lestor Piggott served one year of his 3 year sentence. He got done because he was paying money into off shore accounts in false names. He had to pay £2.8m in back tax and then paid a further £4.5m on his release. He actually makes Zahawi seem like a bit of an amateur .
As a disabled person who is going through yet another PIP assessment, paying bedroom tax on my spare room that isn't big enough to meet building standards to be a bedroom.....I'm getting a little tired of all this now. All of us are equal, it's just some of us are more equal than others...
This is disgusting at a time when working decent taxpayers are struggling to heat and eat
Corruption at the highest level
Thanks to the people investigating and reporting these scandals under what must be considerate pressure and personal inconvenience. The nation owes you all a debt of gratitude.
When Tories threaten or sack civil service whistleblowers who refuse to have any part in facilitating government corruption, the whole of society begins to rot from within.
It is all part of the farce. They are just rubbing it in your face. 'It' being the hypocrisy, the unaccountability, the lieing and the fact that nothing will be done about it.
he used the same excuse-"careless mistake"- when he got caught out fiddling parliamentry expenses to heat his stables.
The sense of self entitlement and arrogance of many of our MPs is staggering. The ego’s required are huge…People who desire power and status and genuinely think they are better than the rest of us. Little empathy for the people they supposedly serve. Psychopaths. We need them removed from our political system…They would probably end up in criminality instead.😐
Question I'd like to hear at PMQs this week, "If everyone behaved like Nadhim Zahawi, what would the country look like?"
We already know the answer. They are all at it and the country as a consequence looks like real embarrassing dump.
IDK but our horses would be toasty !
Climb up the highest hill you can find... keep your eyes open... and turn through 360 degrees...
It'd look very much like that...
... and strangers have cloned your credit cards...
It would look as it does now, most will behave like that given a chance
@AlexLR Speak for yourself lowlife. Some people live and die with honour. This goes against the beliefs of all conservatives the world over.
It's a common mistake I make all the time. They are lit laughing in our faces.
He thought he had got away with it until he was found out, and he was the Chancellor!!
I can remember when people used to go to prison for deliberately not paying tax , Ken Dodd , Leister Pigget for example, when did this change?
Somewhere between 2010 and 2019. I chiefly blame Boris Johnson for lowering standards in public office to the point where this became expected, although ALL the Tories from Cameron onwards share some of the blame.
Thankyou , disgusting is,nt it !.
Lester Piggott went to prison but Ken Dodd was found not guilty by the jury at his trial and therefore didn't go to jail.
It hasn't. If HMRC issue a demand for tax to be paid, and you were to refuse to pay it within the timeframe (or at least 50% of it if you're actively disputing their assessment) or are found to have engaged in deliberate tax evasion, that's a criminal act and you can face jail time for it.
If HMRC discover after the fact that you've misreported or not reported relevant information to them and, as a result, not paid the correct taxes then they'll issue a demand along with a fine of up to 100% . This is a civil issue and, provided you pay, it doesn't become a criminal one. As mentioned in the video, tax can be complex and while HMRC expect a certain degree of professionalism and full accuracy in disclosures, there is an acceptance that mistakes can and will happen - the starting position isn't to assume criminal intent, but the fine exists to encourage people to get disclosures right first time and discourage "trying it on" and tactically forgetting to disclose income in the hope that HMRC don't notice.
Ken Dodd was put on trial and found not guilty. Though you may be surprised he still had to pay the tax and interest owing.
This should be a serious criminal offence that warrants actual jail time. Corruption of the highest order within the English parliament! Cromwell would be turning in his grave
It’s surprising that he didn’t put his shares in the names of his cozily warm horses
If you were "careless" with benefits, you will be automatically have 50% added on and have a high chance of going to prison over a few thousand pounds. This is millions and he gets 30% fine and that's it.
Nothing screams innocent like a threat to sue
I really hope Dan and Simon can afford to counter-sue. Thanks for interviews LBC.
If he has broken the Law by trying to “Avoid” paying Tax then he should be arrested and sent to court/prison if found guilty.Surely the UK Legal System is all we have left when the Government is this Corrupt.
Another 15 months of this lot!! the carnage they will leave behind them is going to be absolutely catastrophic and there will be no chance of coming back !😡
Great to see reporters doing their job well
There must be something we can do to get these corrupt MP out of Number 10 before the next election 😡
It is a major concern just how much offshore tax haven companies are used by business people in the UK and elsewhere. Conflicts of interest are becoming the norm in public life. This is the direction in which Britain has been going in for a long time. No wonder London has been nicknamed Londongrad.
I heard it was called Londonistan?
Freeports will make things even worse
I'm suddenly being hunted by the inland revenue and the stress and mental confusion is horrendous.
All over a potential of a few thousand £.
These bods with problems over millions must be very thick skinned
If he has so much money he doesn’t know about nearly £4 million he is either incompetent or corrupt. He even went to the length of demanding to be chancellor, which is a complete admission of guilt by association. No doubt looking for a way to cancel his tax. This sounds most likely to me. Lockhimup.
These people make me sick to my stomach. Our politics need a root and branch change. Starting with fixed terms for serving in office, access to all financial data of MPs and a robust investigative agency to monitor and challenge.
It's all because he got caught
Sanak was quite happy with the tax dodgiers explanation that he tried to avoid paying his taxes, but when found out he gladly handed over the millions and threatened anyone who exposed his mistake as a crime . Sanak now has appointed someone to investigate how he got caught, with a so called independent advisor the corruption in this government is endless
There`s another 650 of them out there.
It's like Dave said, 'we gotta do something about this compensation culture'...
Of all the ppl..
We need more people like him to investigate these politicians and there links
labour and lib dem ones aswell.
I think it is highly immoral for an MP to even have offshore accounts. His job is supposed to be for the service and benefit of the British people and yet they willingly withhold taxes from the British purse.
Parliament is just a smokescreen for their illegal activities.
Pretty obvious Zahawi's actions were totally deliberate and not an oversight..Corrupt and greedy to the core as with most of the ultra-rich Tories..Paying their fair share is simply not on their radar..
Wait, these are founder shares? Hw can there possibly have been any confusion over who they belonged to?
Well, you see, when you are as obscenely rich as Nadhim Zahawi it is simply impossible to keep track of all the millions, billions and trillions sloshing around in your various off-shore tax-avoiding shell companies. It's a bit like finding an odd sock: is this mine, my Dad's, or does it belong to that nice Russian oligarch who is secretly bankrolling the Tory Party? Who can possibly hope to keep tabs on all of that when you are busy siphoning tax-payers' money into the pockets of your cronies... 😄
"Creative accounting" and intentional mudding the waters.
"I don't know if it was me or my dad who owned the £27mln of shares". Sure. "Hey dad, I found £27mln of shares, are they yours or mine"?
Found em from back of sofa
The most insulting part of this is how foolish Zahawi and the Tories clearly think the rest of us are.
Like, they're not even putting-in the effort to make even a half-decent lie. A "mistake" you repeatedly threaten to sue people for noting? They must literally think of the public as illiterate unteachable peasants.
But they've won the last three elections, so maybe they're on to something.
Come on, be honest, TORY VOTERS are basically as thick as two short planks and would believe anything their heroes say!
boss ....pure boss , well done lad
He didn't say " oh I will double check to see if I've made a mistake"! What he said was " I will sue if you don't let me off with these millions I owe the British people, but want to keep for myself" it's a blatant, deliberate attempt at tax fraud. He should go to prison...100%!
send him to Rwanda
Poor memory of course £27 million nothing to worry about we all do it don't we!
Yeah, I know.
Just the other day I found thirty odd million in an old pair of jeans.
Could've happened to anyone....
He showed us who he was a decade ago with stablegate. But people keep voting for these crooks.
he was chancellor , he knows how the system works, no excuse
Well done for Dan Niedle for sticking with this. The threats he was sent were shameful and an embarrassment for the major legal firm involved. The points on careless are key. It doesn’t mean he just forgot to report something. Instead it suggests he chose not to get advice on or declare £27m.
If an MP has nothing to hide why sue someone investigating your tax issues.
This requires a proper criminal investigation for tax evasion, money laundering and fraud against the crown. If found guilty (which it looks like he could well be) he should be eating 3 square at his majesty's pleasure for a long time.
Daniel, it can't be enough. These cheating politicians!!! I enourmously admire your actions. Thank you for doing what you have done for the people of this country.
Didn't he also recently mistake his equestrian centre for his small cottage when claiming his expenses entitlement?
He knew what he was doing and advised how to do it prison
27m quid- and he paid 3.7m in tax on it after being caught. Wish my income had that rate of tax
Plus a 30% penalty the total sum paid is nearly £5 million. Small change when you have £200 million in the bank.
I mean who of us haven't incorporated a business we own in Gibraltar using a family member who wasn't involved in a business and then threaten to sue people who pointed out the arrangement meant we weren't paying millions of dollars in taxes? Makes total sense that the Tories would shrug this off from one of their former chancellors...
He's crook end of
Zahawi wasn’t careless in avoiding tax, indeed he was very careful to avoid that much tax.
This guys needs to be the ethics czar covering all politicians
He won't last the week as a minister
"A tax lawyer and a political journalist tell LBC they were 'threatened with lawsuits' for looking into Nadhim Zahawi's tax affairs", just like that paragon of honesty Robert Maxwell did to people who knew he was pillaging his worker's pension funds to keep his failing businesses afloat.
“ lessons have been learnt” is what they say and they move on doing the same but making sure they don’t get caught!
I like this tax expert guy. He went on Sky and Kay Burley attempted to smear him starting by introducing him as " the labour supporting tax expert" and then trying to find ways to play down the situation but he batted away her smear attempts and made it clear the dodginess Zahawi was up to 🤭💪
How is it whenever I get confused about money I end up worse off, but when he gets confused he walks away with millions of pounds?🤔
Everything he did would’ve been done under advice from tax specialists in order to minimise uk taxes.
Carelessness would not happen these circumstances.
It is easier to admit carelessness than admit attempted tax avoidance in a massive scale.
It’s not a mistake he is in the position he is in. These are the type of people the Tories admire.
The fact Zahawi employed lawyers to silence investigation suggests he knew EXACTLY what had happened.
3.7m is 13.7% of 27m. Seems a very low rate!
Glad u done the sum. Wasn’t it 40% high earners, can’t remember
I think these people should turn the tables and sue Zahawi for defamation of character or threatening behavior.
Corruption on an industrial scale 😡
Just how much do these greedy ****s need?
It's great to have money and the power and connections to sue somebody you don't agree with. These people, these careerist politician, are truly awful. They only serve themselves and their kin. Torys were trying to emphasize at the weekend on how Zahawi and his family came to the UK as "penniless refugees" like they came from small shop owners or farmers. In fact his family were part of the highest echelons of Iranian government and Society. Who knows the reasons why they fled the country!!!. "Probably not standing up for the rights of their fellow countrymen I'll bet" But I'll bet they didn't come to the UK as penniless as they like to make out probably with the help of UK government agencies of some kind. The fact Zahawi threatened to sue people knowing full well they were telling the truth should be put to Sunak...asking if this person should hold any Cabinet position. Sunak can't turn around and say he isn't aware of it, as the facts are readily available from those who accused Zahawi.
I've seen this man on LBC and Sky News reporting this story, but not on the BBC. I can't think why?
What's insane to me is how often these crooks keep their jobs, regardless of their blatantly corrupt behaviour. MPs should be operating at a high standard. Not operating within scummy, scamming, cheating, fraudulent and frankly illegal behaviour. Why arent they made an example of? How do these people keep their jobs, when we would be fired and put in jail immediately for the same practices? This isn't a Tory V Labour thing, either. I'd say the same of ANY politician.
