It's also worth noting that despite making up 15% of the total population of UK, those who are of BAME background make up roughly 46% of all NHS medica staff. You only need to walk into your local hospital/dental practice etc to see it for your self. Furthermore, when you go through the process, you are not allowed to claim benefits/public funds. I know this because I am going through such process atm. I have already paid over £15k in application fees and solicitor costs. EDIT: It is possible to claim benefits if you're a parent of minors or disabled(not all cases), but this is rare. And the benefits you receive will be no different to what everyone else receives. There is no special treatment.
Yes. My sons partner has been through exactly the same process - paying huge sums for NHS cover (which of course she has not used), taking a citizenship test which most British citizens would almost certainly fail, paying for sitting the citizenship exam itself, restrictions on foreign travel, while the application is pending (which she has really needed to do for her work), and the interminable waiting at each stage of the process. That woman is completely ignorant on immigration. Once you go through the process of citizenship, there is a period of 10 years where you have to pay into the NHS. Every 2 1/2 years you pay something like £650 per year.
I think shes probably completely wrong on a lot more than that, to be fair.
And all the time she has been working as a structural engineer for a civil engineering company, paying tax and NI and therefore contributing to the U.K. economy.

Jackie you really shouldn’t be doing that!!

That should take all of a nanosecond. 🤣

I heard this live. Jackie, or Colleen from Portsmouth, seems confused and certain simultaneously. Full of hate and spite and certain that 99% of the UK agree with her although she hasn’t a clue about all that much.
James’s ‘love to the family’ at the end sailed above her tiny mind.

What I love about how James takes these calls is that he doesn't want to disprove what these people are saying but rather expose their general agenda behind all the slogans they use. And what's scary is that these people are fed those slogans by those who would toss them to the hounds if they could make a penny out of it.
No whats scary is that they all seem to have and understanding of the underlining theme of the slogans and are just using the slogans as a means to identify each other and communicate. Thousands of these people exist in the open and we allow them to shout their hate because its under the tile of political speech and slogans. People need to start shutting them down strongly and stop giving them air

@@ppo2424 O'Brien is actually asking questions upon which their opinions are founded, and they flounder. 'Can't arrest someone who's not done anything wrong yet'
And 3 months later, we've had exactly that happen.
I can understand why she’s so frustrated. When you start an argument that’s driven by emotion instead of facts is easily to lose control of the whole conversation.
I don't think emotion is the problem. People in my country, for example, are SO angry about the lack of response to mass shootings and it drives them to action. Her argument is driven by prejudice and ignorance. That's the problem.

But being upset and wanting to stop something isn't an argument. If someone said we need to stop gun violence by arresting bald people because they radiate gun violence thoughts, that's an argument but it's fiction driven by a hate of baldness.
I am one of them Eastern Europeans who came into this country 23 years ago. (Just for the record, I've been employed the entire time, payed my taxes NI, I have private health insurance, and never claimed any benefits) . Now that's out of the way, I would like to say that I love the UK, and I love the people!!! In my experience the UK is by and large welcoming, tolerant and accepting of immigrants. This country gave me a home, a great job, prospects, a wonderful husband, and great friends. The opinions expressed by this lady are in the minority. Every country has their fair share of bigots, including the UK, but in my opinion the UK is still one of the most welcoming and tolerant countries.
It is heartwarming to hear that, for the most part, you were made welcome here and that you have built a happy life. Bless you.
Fabulous ! And as statistics show immigrants (first generation) in work contribute more per head to the state than those born in this country

Says unemployed foreigners are the problem and then complains about the amount of foreigners working in Kings hospital in London!
I do know so many people who think this way - everyone needs a scapegoat for their failing country - instead of pitching in and helping resolve issues, or voting for change
And who should we vote for exactly? I grew up under three consecutive terms of labour with majorities and it was a total catastrophe.
@JwayT The Tories have, over the past 12 years, also caused catastrophe and continue to do so currently. Labour might cause just as many issues.
In a decision between bad things maybe happening or certainly happening, the choice should be clear.
I agree with her 100%. James is intentionally twisting her words and asking her whataboutery questions. For example, she says that protesters should not be allowed to block public roads due to the disruption it causes workers and emergency services. Instead of actually addressing that issue (Which I think is a perfectly reasonable and fair point) James starts questioning her about the Queen's funeral. As if that somehow excuses him from rebutting her argument about blocked roads. Same with the immigration questions. She said we should not allow people to come here illegally on small boats. James asked her what is the process for her to arrive. When she didn't know the immigration process, James considers that a win and doesn't ever have to deal with her concerns about people arriving via boat. He does this again and again, twisting her words and pivoting away from her points by asking something else and ignoring it. He's a competent journalist. He's an intelligent man, he KNOWS what he's doing. It's dishonest and does nothing to heal the divides in society.
