As frustrating as this is to listen to, I think it’s important to understand that people like this are VERY common in the UK.
Too many people in the Uk are politically indolent for there to be any hope of change in the near future, Andy is a prime example of someone who believes he has worked it all out, but in reality he's just been reading, and parroting Tory propaganda for years! Undisturbed indoctrination of the easily swayed!

Big Dave in most pubs agree with this caller
This is what happens when you operate, intellectually, on nothing but emotions. His feelings are so strong that he can't even countenance that they could be wrong. Then, when he tries to communicate them, he finds that there is nothing there.
isnt that how the brits who voted to leave the EU based their vote solely on emotions including fear of foreigners - nothing to do with rationale or facts - regardless of country all conservative parties base their policies on irrational emotions that will always win at the voting box even the people that continuously vote against their own interests because delusional fear always outweigh rationale
Usually if you say something like “it’s all the lies and stuff”, everyone is going to nod and agree. They all have opposing views but there’s no denying the fact that lying is no longer scandalous for any politician.
And these are the people that we need to persuade to change their minds. Sadly.
Believing our house shortage, school places and NHS struggles would be helped by free movement is hardly intellectual. I would say the majority of people are just a mouth piece of the very people who profit from a supply of labour that outstrips demand.
Where we are now cannot be completely contributed to us leaving the EU.
Which by the way is also in a recession and also includes the US.
@@matthewfindlay9010 We don't have enough builders, teachers and nurses. Cutting off the supply of workers is hardly going to help that. Also in modern supply side economics the supply of labour is always the limiting factor. Increasing costs due to labour shortages is hardly going to help the people at the bottom that are hit hardest by the cost of living crisis. Thats why we introduced a minimum wage so labour supply cannot drive down wages of the lowest paid. Labour shortages driving inflation will whack them though.
The US isnt in recession its economy grew 4.4%. Neither is the EU. Ours shrank .8%.
If this guy drove against a wall, he'd back up and drive into it again. What an absolute tool.

Well done to James O'Brien for keeping his cool when confronted with this call.
I notice James sometimes confuses the terms, free trade, custom union & single market. They're not the same, each one is a term to describe deeper stages of economic integration ending with fiscal union. The UK has a free trade agreement with the EU but the reason it can not engage in friction less economic exchange it once had is because we left the 3rd stage of economic integration, the single market.
Well don to Andy for keeping his cool when confronted by the vile propagandist O'Brien spewing forth such lies and hatred.
@@AB-zl4nh he literally told the caller that the UK has a free trade agreement with the EU, ie the withdrawal agreement, at which point the caller contradicted his original claim by mourning the fact that this free trade agreement is strictly worse for the UK than the free trade terms the UK had when in the EU.

"The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter" - Winston Churchill
Well… I don’t know about you but I’m a little more ashamed of my country than I was an hour ago
The fact that you feel ashamed (and many other people also are) is something to be encouraged by. You haven't become numb to this. You haven't stopped caring. You haven't abandoned values, or facts, or understanding.
I have been ashamed of this country since 2016 and the vote.
Exactly...It is very shameful that this country allows such a vile propagandist like O'Brien his own radio show. It makes us all ashamed of our country.
not me but I am not English, and the EU never told him, he is right in a way, no one from the EU called him personally to tell him about the budget, and there is a public server where the budget could be downloaded and read for everyone who wants to see it, same with why the GB can not have the same contract like before, because its the benefit of being in the club, the English want to be out, so they now have to prove that their products are on the EU standard, fun fact (and shows how to learn resistant English Tories are) the made in Germany was insisted from England on all German products because the politician was sure the English would only buy English products, bad luck was that the German produced cheaper with higher quality so the made in Germany was at the end not a handicap to buy products it was a benefit
I have been ashamed of this country since Thatcher helped Reagan and his right wing lackey academic Freidman implement the neo liberal project. Morals and ethics have no place in the neo liberal ideology. Nice comment btw.
I felt my brain cells dying as I listened to that man.
That moderators patience is completely mindblowing
Medal 🏅for him
Who is the moderator?
He is a presenter.
But he does try to moderate the astonishing level of ignorance displayed by the caller.
And also patiently probes for his sources.
Although we know the sources… it’s the Sun, the daily express, the daily mail.
always allow them enough rope...
I was amaze by him it was incredible to listen and made sense of it
My deepest respect for James, for his intelligence, his stamina and his patience.
I was getting exhausted just listening to this caller. I'd probably have aneurysm if I was talking to him.
Just because James talks to dullards with James already asking the topic
That doesn't mean James is Einstein
James show is basically having the question lined up then wait for the calls
I reckon they cherry pick the dullards
He is a sophist
How about he has his shows where it's the punters who set the topics
Nope
Because those with logic and credible stories and facts would defeat his sophism

The wonderful part was that James’s sarcasm went right through him like prune juice.
The worry is that we have millions of people as muddled as this man. They elected Johnson.
Boris Trump?
they were hurdled into worse vs worser. They chose worse to put off worser which will be upon us at the next election.
What about the constituents who voted for Rayner?🤪
@@gerardflynn7382 Trump might be elected again. Millions there seem to have the longterm memory of a goldfish
"They" didn't elect Johnson. He was chosen by the Tory Party.
As a Dutch (thus an outsider, my apologies)... the most painful thing about this all is that this guy is not alone in this opinion. What these people really bottom line just can't comprehend is that they are blaming "others" "outsiders" "all the bad eu people" for their own problems. BUT they tell themselves daily "we have taking our country back!". make up your mind then... its your country you left... YOU FIX IT. just be clear the EU is not a perfect place, we are humans though just like you. but we are NOT blaming The UK for all our problems. we are trying to deal with them like we should, as they are our responsibility. Start doing that and the UK will prosper WITH or WITHOUT the dreaded EU.
I worked in Ireland and the UK in 2016/17. It’s a bit sad to see how bad this backfired on the UK. A nation needs to have a degree of self sufficiency for isolationism and nationalism to work. Geopolitically brexit wasn’t going to work. Even so it’s still hard to watch the government and brexiteers realize that the UK has far less international power and influence than they thought.
@Eddy Latumalea.
The EU is going to collapse because Germany has applied to join BRICS so the Euro will collapse and countries will go back to there own gold backed currencies and there own sovereignty.
These attitudes exist in lots of places. I'm from Zimbabwe and it's very much the case there. Blaming outsiders is easier than changing one's own culture and actions.
Sounds like youve had a booster recently
@@timmurphy5541 Yes I agree I'm looking at this Brexit a bit different now. I actually blame the UK goverment for blaming problems on the EU that they could fix but dident want to. They always told the population they cannot fix this and that because we were in the EU so the nation became angry with the EU low and behold the problems are not fix even though we left lol massive wake up call for the population
Caller is an absolute weapon
Yeaa rattled James 😮
😂
It is genuinely terrifying to think that people like him are actually allowed to vote! Individuals like this are the reason we are in this mess!
The UK is Weak that's the problem. Its embarrassing.
Like here in the US, the conservatives influence voters by appealing to their feelings, and feelings don't require facts.
Presumably you would only want people voting that have same opinion as you?
this is just a poor bus driver still believing the story (lies) he has been fed and they continue to do so today!
@Tatey.
The reason why we are in this mess is because of our joke of a government so let's have it right.
I listened through this and was about to throw my computer out the window at least twice in the first minute. James is the most composed man on the planet!
I think that your spellcheck has accidentally replaced the word "corrupt" with "composed".
Alex I too listened to this and I was absolutely speechless. I believe the referendum should never have taken place exactly due to this problem. Too many ignorant, gullible people voting on something so complex as this. I will not be riding on his bus.

'The EU was unelected' -- people who voted for UKIP in the EU elections
What the eff are you talking about?
@@rfurdaylee Nigel Firage kept claiming that the EU was undemocratic.
He was a democratic representative to the EU.
Not hard to sort out, mate, it's kinda obvious where the problem is there.
@DracoSuave Whether he was voted in ( or not) is by the by, we already have a democratically elected government ( or representatives) in London called the British Government, why do we need another one in Brussels. We really don't need 2. The one in Brussels treated us so badly that Nigel Farage was prepared to put himself out of a job to get rid of them, shows you how bad they were ( and still are)
@@rfurdaylee At least you are admitting that the EU is not unelected.
Editing your comment to throw in those "(or not)"s doesn't flatter your personality.
To me listening to someone, who is proudly living in a monarchy, complain about the EU being undemocratic, is quite funny.
That is not to say, I do not think the democratic processes in the EU cannot be improved. I hate that the EU organs are pretty much able to silence or ignore weaker member states ( in terms of population and economic power), dictateing what they should do in terms of their economy. I hate that direct votes from the population are only present in the EU parlament, while both the commission and the council are only legitimised on the grounds of organisational democracy.
But that does not mean I hate the EU. The EU is necessary for keeping the european continent as a whole able ro compete with the USA, China and in a few decades india. The EU basically guarantees freedom and relative stability for the member states, by makeing war economically unviable, which as sad as it is, is the only non violent way of doing this.
We canallways talk about how to improve, but to just give up is a cowardly option, an option I find deplorable.
It's unbelievable that our politicians are scared of upsetting people like Andy. I can't believe that our entire country seems to be pandering to clueless & gullible people like this guy. My patience with suffering these people & their nonsense is exhausted, we need to rejoin the tried & tested EU, which we know works, ASAP.
