He rests his chin on the low tom so I have to be really careful when I do a rolling-fill! I won't be doing any stick-juggling when he's in the room. Cheers, Matt. Have a good rest-of-festive season.
Thanks, Roger. December's been a treading-water month with virus recovery but I've a long list of themed rides and new ground for next year. Let's hope the weather chips in.
Thought it was Chad Smith on the skins for a minute there Gordon, cracking tune. Well done getting out on Christmas Day, shame about the vis, a bit further North and it was gin clear. Many thanks for keeping us entertained in 2024.
Someone from Cleveland remarked on the Christmas weather being lovely and sunny - the Pennines are clag-magnets at this time of year. It was the same this morning (Boxing Day) but I stuck to a sub-600 ft circuit and missed the worst of it. All the best for the rest of the festive season.
Nice one Gordon and merry Christmas to you. You can't beat getting out early on Christmas day when very few people are about, had a run up Buckden pike this morning just came across the local farmer and a grouse absolutely heaven.
Buckden Pike! Excellent run for Christmas Day, Mark. I hope the views were good - on a clear day you can see into Wensleydale and beyond. This morning's ride was very quiet - I could even roll the junctions and I don't think I unclipped once. Have a good one.
@clippingin1593 Thanks Gordon 😊 the views were amazing up until you were about 200ft below the summit then you were into the clag and wind but still very enjoyable.
That Made me laugh, i think it was the facial expressions as much as the actual drumming, but had to watch the start a few times, you know to fully appreciate it, excellent ride, got on my annual Christmas day ride to Weets Top, went mtb this year, thought it had been to wet for gravel bike, but keep getting out and filming, looking forward to this next year, thanks Richard
I haven't touched the drum kit for 18 months so I had to really concentrate at that tempo - plus my canine assistant kept resting his chin on the low-tom! That's great country in the Malham - Gordale - Bordley area. I know it as a walker & runner but I've yet to explore it on 2 wheels. All the best, Richard.
Merry Christmas and thanks for all the videos. I missed Christmas Day but I’m out Boxing Day cheers 👍it’s a shame because Christmas Day was a lovely sunny day up here
I wondered if I was just running into hill mist because the valleys weren't too bad. You'll get a good one in today and put a dent in those Christmas calories.
Season's greetings, Martin! It's over 2 years since drum tracking for the last Napier's album so I was struggling a bit at this tempo but I don't think I could even play the surf guitar parts nowadays. I'm going to try to revive the drumming next year and if I wear that cycling jacket I'll save a fortune on heating bills.
I have a few ride ideas for the Entwistle and Belmont area, revisiting an old trail running event I did in the 80s/90s. With a bit of luck I'll get over there in January/February. All the best for the festive season.
Merry Xmas Gordon - your stories are a ray of sunshine 🌞.... My Xmas ride was down to Morecambe, so I could pootle along the prom and enjoy the brown sea.... Santa brought me a Garmin rear light and radar - Love it - absolutely great for knowing what's coming up behind you, although today that was 'not much' 💥👍
Good old Santa - that'll come in very handy, John. It's years since I was over on that coast but I remember some beautiful country around Carnforth and Silverdale. I had a few childhood holidays around Bolton-le-Sands too. Nice.
Not just a pretty face! Thank goodness!! And what a shame about your battery! Agree it's very mild at the moment. Did a 53 miler yesterday out to Bolton abbey and back. Thankfully got see a bit more due to lack of fog! Was good to see an upload on Christmas day. Merry Christmas and happy new year
That's a good outing to set you up for Xmas. I find at this time of year it's a weather-lottery above 900 ft but a ride's a ride! All the best for the festive season.
They were definitely geese but then the Tarantino reference would be too oblique. Call it poetic licence! All the best for the rest of the festive season.
Merry Christmas to you Gordon! I really enjoyed the extended version of the intro!! You are quite talented. The only thing I got cycling related for Christmas was a 1:10 Mini retro Postal Edition Diecast bicycle : )
Thanks, Mark. That's a nice feature for the mantelpiece or turbo-trainer room. The intro music is from 2016-ish during my injury-enforced lay off, and in those days I programmed the drum tracks. I thought it would be fun to add live drums and what I lack in accuracy I can make up for in energy!
Thanks, Pete. It was grand to be out, even in the mist. I only wish traffic levels were that light more often! All the best for the rest of the festive season.
Merry Christmas, bet it was nice and quiet on the roads this morning. What a shame the battery died before the christmas medley though 😁. Looking forward to the 2025 videos 👍.
It's a long time since the Brighouse - Ripponden stretch was that quiet. I don't think I put a foot down for the whole ride - the 'moving time' and 'elapsed time' were the same! It's a real shame about the operatic medley, I'm sure the sheep were crying as I rode past singing. Have a great festive season, Claire.
Happy Christmas Gordon. Nice to see you drumming as the drummer boy. Did you play the guitar part in your opening music too? I thought i'd make a start on mapping some new bike routes for me to do for next year especially in the summer and can plot them further away for new roads. I look forward to watching your new videos and routes for next year. I found your channel in the Summer, and have enjoyed watching all of your routes, and local history that you share along the way. All the best. Becky
Thanks, Becky. Yes, I'm essentially a guitarist and/or bassist but I bought the drum kit in 2018 for making recordings instead of programming rhythm tracks. I've got some routes to explore in 2025 which will be new to the channel and myself, let's hope we have some good weather.
I haven't sat behind a kit for 18 months or more so I was struggling a bit at this tempo. My canine assistant loves to rest his chin on the floor tom so I have to keep an eye on him when it's time for a fill. Have a smashing Christmas - all the best.
Interesting drumming. Your cross sticking is a little like Lenny White, the American jazz/funk drummer. Murky day, I left my bike in the garage and stayed in bed. I'm thoroughly disappointed with myself.
Write it off to the festive season - no harm in a strategic bout of hibernation on the big day. I'm a guitarist but working on rock projects in the 2010s we found that a lot of radio stations and music bloggers loathe programmed drums and are very reluctant to give you airtime. You can find session drummers with their own recording kit who'll work remotely but it's £1000+ for an album which you'll never recoup in the streaming era. I bought this kit in 2018 for £600 and learned enough to give the tracks some energy, drive, and groove but my technique is all over the place, especially as I haven't had time to sit behind it for the past 18 months. That's one new year's resolution taken care of!
Well looks like the Marsden smoke screen is working, not cheap but money well spent me thinks . Oh and your drummer seat at bit low perhaps? Just sayin? Seasons Greeting to you and may God bless all your batteries!
I think you're right about the seat, Peter, plus the snare was too low and the kit was too narrow. Since restarting cycling in '22 I've barely done any music-making and a few days ago I had to set the kit up for this video. It's such a shame about the operetta segment....
Captain America on drums, haha, brilliant dog was wanting you to throw the sticks.
He rests his chin on the low tom so I have to be really careful when I do a rolling-fill!
I won't be doing any stick-juggling when he's in the room.
Cheers, Matt. Have a good rest-of-festive season.
Merry Christmas Gordon. Such talent, we are truly blessed. 🤩
Cheers, Geoff. I'm upset about the missing Christmas medley. It'll have to keep 'til next year.
Merry Christmas, Gordon, and best wishes for the coming year. Thank you for producing so much enjoyable and engaging content.
Thanks, Roger. December's been a treading-water month with virus recovery but I've a long list of themed rides and new ground for next year. Let's hope the weather chips in.

A belated Merry Christmas Gordon, hope you continued the festive cheer post ride
Seasons greetings, Todd. I'll need to ride 500 km to work off yesterday's 'festive cheer'... just in time for Hogmanay!
Nice one Gordon and merry Christmas to you. You can't beat getting out early on Christmas day when very few people are about, had a run up Buckden pike this morning just came across the local farmer and a grouse absolutely heaven.

Merry Christmas Gordon, top effort doing a 40 on Christmas Day. I'm carb loading on Quality Street!
Ooooh, good choice. Scientifically proven to be superior to Roses at FTP levels.

great effort Gordon , a lovely Christmas treat. thanks for taking the time to share this ride
Thanks, Roger. I had a nasty feverish virus last year so heading out today and getting stuck in was a real bonus.
All the best.
❤❤ happy Christmas Gordon ,that’s one original drummer attire.
Season's greetings, Martin!

Merry Christmas Gordon, I hope to see you soon over the Lancashire way. Have a great festive season and a happy new year.😊

What a great Xmas tradition. Happy Christmas Gordon, may you have a wonderful new year! Love your sense of humour. Best regards Sarah
Thanks, Sarah. I had a heavy cold last Christmas so it was great to be out and about in the hills again.
Have a good one.

🤣🤣😆… That was a classic mate. Chuckled from start to finish.
Hope you’ve had a cracking day.
Glad you enjoyed it, Mick. I tried to keep it short & light-hearted for the big day!
@3.29 - sounds more like geese to me Gordon! Happy Xmas!
They were definitely geese but then the Tarantino reference would be too oblique.

Merry christmas gordon love the drumming christmas day with keith moon just dont start smashing your drum kit to pieces
I hadn't played for 18 mths so this little session was exhausting - I wouldn't have had the strength to kick it over at the end!
Merry Christmas Gordon 😊 hope you and your family have a wonderful day dude 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Thanks, Pete. It was grand to be out, even in the mist. I only wish traffic levels were that light more often!
All the best for the rest of the festive season.
Merry Christmas to you also, Gordon
Thanks, Paul. All the best.
Excellent, love this channel merry Christmas Gordon and family.
Many thanks, Steven. Have a great festive season.
Merry Christmas Gordon have a great time and don't have to many sherbets🎅🎄
Cheers, Dave. How many is too many? Haha...
The red Castelli jersey came out today - ideal for the conditions.
I asked santa for a Pinarello Dogma... I got aftershave 👍🤣
Oooh, so close!
Cheers, Lee.
@clippingin1593 Cheers & Merry Christmas
On a winner there
Merry Christmas 😊
Cheers, Chris. All the best.
No rest for the wicked!! A joyous Noel to you.
I was going to stop at the Buckstones car park and film a piece on the escarpment but the visibility was terrible at that point.
Have a good one.
Great sign off. Merry Christmas, Gordon! 🎄🙂
Such a shame the battery died at that moment ....
All the best, Martin.
Merry Christmas.
Cheers, Stephen. All the best.
Merry Christmas Gordon!! Great content !!
Thanks, Graham. Have a good one.

Active or retired?

Hate those foggy rides. Nothing to see. Just riding in a cloud basically and getting wet.
Cycling weather around here is like playing a fruit machine. Thick fog over Buckstones, damp mist in Barkisland, weak sunshine in Greetland. Stay low.
