@@ii_dynasty bro u don't understand why dodge last this long, they powerful cars at affordable range prices which is why the 2nd gen charger and 1st gen challengers were banned in most drag races against European vehicles.
The CEO blaming regulators is the biggest bs I've heard in a while. They could've made regular EVs, phevs while keeping their ICE vehicles. Look at ford and Chevy.
It's because these fleet emissions standards are based on a "credits" system and they burned through all of their allowance trying to milk the SRT vehicles. They did this to themselves and now they want sympathy for it 😂

Dodge’s problem is that they never innovated their cars. So they adopted a fan base that was completely against anything new. Instead of innovating and improving the Hemi, Dodge chose to pay billions of dollars for EV tax credits from Tesla. Meanwhile Ford changes their Coyote constantly. Ford also brings out things like a V6 Ford GT or an electric F150. This leads to Ford owners being used to change and at least being willing to see what the new thing is like. The same applies to GM. They make an all electric Hummer, Cadillac is making a $300k car, the Corvette is mid engined, the corvette is available as a hybrid, or a NA V8 with a 8,500 redline or as a TTV8 with 1,000hp. Meanwhile Dodge has done nothing innovative ever. The Viper was the same for its entire 25 years of life, the LX platform that the charger/challenger were based off was used for 19 years straight, the Durango has been the same for 15 years…
Innovation is not the same as changing designs. If something is good enough to last decades (Dodge Viper) it shouldnt be changed so much because it dilutes the heritage.
Biggest L take ever. Why should consumers get used to change? Why should we reinvent the wheel every 10 years if the old wheel is still desired? The "problem" you just illustrated is why economies have to constantly go up eventually you hit a ceiling or a drop off point so that the economy can reset. Dodge had one of the coolest looking cars with an engine that everyone enjoyed. Why change what works? Dodge has been a performance car company since they dropped their passenger sedans and hatchbacks. That is their niche they have now chosen to alienate their entire customer base who enjoy fast cars with powerful engines for people who literally do not exist or are out buying SUV's or teslas. They will not get any business from this and now they have soured relations with their existing customers. It is the companies responsibility to provide products that their consumers want not the other way around.
@@tiberiusfellblade2567 Give it time. This initial EV Charger will mostly appeal to only a new segment for Dodge. Probably mostly current EV owners. The inline 6 ICE version will be great for a lot of people - more than a 150 HP improvement on current Charger / Challenger V6 models. Eventually, there *will* be a V8 version. Also, Challenger will return eventually - and that would certainly come with a V8 revival. This is just a phase Dodge is going through.
Regulations from the government has alot to do with it. Just look at Ford, Mercedes and VW's statements they have issued regarding EVs. They all have experienced massive losses with EVs and are returning to ICE.
Side note but I think the reason this works for Hyundai Ionic N is not only because it’s well integrated but because there isn’t a high expectation from them with ICEs
Tech savvy people are normally pretty cool with a lot of the innovation that Japanese and Korean car makers have brought to smaller vehicles. Hyundai is still trying to improve.
@@konekillerking It might be a PR fail to some extent. If they can get pricing down a bit, I'm convinced this will sell enough to *not* be a failure. Sure, it most likely won't appeal to current V8 muscle car fans. But it's a good-looking car. It will be eye catching. And the EV "exhaust" will turn heads as well, even if some don't like it. Polarizing products usually sell enough to succeed. I think a lot of current EV owners will like this more than their current Tesla based purely on vanity, so it will give Dodge a slice of the EV market pie. That's what they need right now. Also, there are a LOT of V6 Charger / Challenger owners out there who would be ok with swapping to an EV (if they can afford it). For those that don't want an EV, the I6 Charger looks like it will have great performance compared to current V6 and even V8 R/T. Almost in line with current Scat Packs. You can make current V6 Chargers / Challengers sound pretty good with mods, so I'm sure people will be able to tune/mod the I6 to be a legit muscle car experience. They will sell the I6 like hotcakes. For the V8-only crowd? Keep being vocal. A V8 trim of this... and possibly a new Challenger redesign with a V8... are probably right around the corner.
Sell it as a Chrysler, that is how. Other than the 300, the Dodge brand has already been vetted as an asphalt destroying V8 Hemi. No Mopar buyers want EV Chargers and Challengers.
No muscle car buyers want an EV. Even if the EV will deliver exactly the same experience as an ICE car without some of the drawbacks, muscle car owners are too stuck in the past, unable to look past the “good ol’ days” and demanding everything stay the same as it always was. There’s a reason the muscle car formula has not changed since the first muscle car in 1949
Why don’t they just lean into the natural electric sounds and amplify that. I’m sure it would sound wicked and authentic. Along with tires squealing it would create its own unique feelings.
Muscle car nostalgia trap. It's like how the 1993 Camaro looks newer than any Camaro after 2010. They decided to go retro and now they can't escape the 60s.
@@darthquigley Nice reference. I'm genuinely sad we'll never get a Camaro that looks like a Gen 3 or Gen 4 rewarmed, because appealing to the cult of the boomer means ignoring their post-60s history.
Because a good brushless electric motor makes no sound. The better and more efficient the electric motor is, the less sound it makes, especially at lower speeds and idling.
They should of put as much original 1st gen charger into this as possible. They did a decent job on the exterior but the interior could have way more homage to the 60’s. I think the new scout vehicles did an amazing job of a modern interior but it has a vintage vibe to it.
I think this car will do better with the Tech Enthusiasts vs the Car Enthusiasts, kinda like Tesla. Might even bring in Art lovers since it has a retro looking design.
You'd be surprised how much overlap there is between Tech Enthusiasts and Car Enthusiasts. Even Tech guys love ICE vehicles. It's not looking good for Dodge with this one.
Tech guys are generally well off in the current industry. They are probably looking at an E-ray instead of a name which is now deeply associated with street hooligans.
A big reason why people like big V8 muscle cars is because they want a street legal NASCAR sort to speak. People see those stock cars in races and wish they had that and that’s where the interest in muscle cars originated from. It’s also like a cultural thing associated with american culture. It also stimulates all your senses, the looks, the smell of burnt gasoline, the sound of a roaring V8, the feel of the vibrations of the engine, the taste of victory lol. You get what I mean. All of this comes together to give the car what we call a “soul”. This EV is soulless like most EVs.
13:22 The truth is Dodge should not be doing electric at all, but because of regulation they SHOULD have this along side their current offerings not throwing the baby out w/ the bath water.

I will admit that for staying true to the original muscle car DNA, I do I like it because they certainly could have discontinued this and made it an SUV like every other brand. However, I know all of you are asking for a V8 but even if it came with one, it would most likely be sold at a crazy premium and be limited to those willing to pony up 100k+ for limited V8 run as I can’t see Dodge running this with a production V8
My biggest gripe is actually the silhouette. The hood isn’t long and low enough. It’s a less iconic chapel compared to to the last Dodge Challenger. I saw one in person in Detroit and it’s not bad… but it doesn’t make feel like “damn… that’s sexy as hell and I want one now.” Also, the rear hatch/trunk area of the car that is slightly upswept looks more like the 90s/early ‘00s designs that were far less iconic or sexy. It’s kind of a miss and it makes me sad. Maybe they can update the front end grill during the mid-cycle refresh to look slightly more retro. You nailed the exterior analysis. I share all your opinions about extending the hood, making the C pillar drop down sooner to create a define trunk, and to make the car look slightly more boxy/less organic.
Ok but anyone NOT excited about the inline 6 charger is insane. It has more displacement in the base package than the v8 scat pack did...not to mention inline 6s are more reliable better on fuel just all around a better engine than a v8

The dealerships said they tried to order many, but got nothing, or maybe 2 per semester, which all sold before they even got them.
@@rabbidcrazy787 No, I'm actually not joking. However, there was a solution; simply order one, so I did. Dealer said customer orders got preference over dealers. Dodge is in a weird place, kind of like Harley Davidson. From a market standpoint both are niche companies that have found success at various points over the past 3 decades mostly by targeting a specific, mostly boomer-aged audience with money at the expense of everything and everyone else. Both have come very close to insolvency and been helped from the brink by government bailouts and trade protection shenanigans. Both have made half-hearted attempts and even some full-hearted attempts at branching out or appealing to other buyers with very limited success. Both now desperately need to appeal to a market entirely outside of their existing fanbase to survive.
funnily enough, up here in canada its gonna be 58k, which converted to usd is like 41k, so we are getting it for around 18k usd cheaper for some reason (well I'm assuming so it can qualify for the credits). But this pricing puts it on par with the model 3 and most other entry level evs that are properly capable of going between provinces (ioniq 6 and 5, ev6, and maybe the bolt, kona and niro evs if you don't mind long charge times). So honestly, while it may not be the muscle car many wanted, its still an ev coupe that is relatively affordable compared to other evs, so honestly, I see it as a massive win.
@Straightcoolin-qq1qs depending on the province, actually cheaper I think. Because I believe in total quebec gets like 12k in incentives, which that alone would put it almost exactly at the elantra n's price point. But even more importantly, in terms of other "sporty" evs (of which there really aren't many), this looks to be the cheapest option. The mach e is the mach e and is only like 5k cheaper, the model 3 has a bit more or around the same range but is much more boring and just generally worse in almost every regard (it's not even that light anymore), and all the other options are either just as expensive or more expensive than the base. Now the scat pack, that is gonna be a pretty hard sell, but the basic r/t should be a hit up here, especially with the standard awd.
The only ones who are going to buy these are rental companies and feel possibly state and federal agencies that’s it’s regular consumers will buy up the old stock of vehicles with incentives from dealers attached to move them off the lot to make room for new inventory.

I’m not sure Stellantis is capable of building a quality EV muscle car at a reasonable price, but I’ll keep an eye on these when they hit the road
ev muscle cars are boring, ev enthusiast cars should be designed to be as lightweight as possible with a focus on unique driving dynamics rather than having a ton of power

EV or ICE-powered automatic ? Not much difference, because nowadays they are both smooth and refined to the point of boredom. And if you want HEMI-sound it is possible to just pump it out from the speakers, which may actually sound better, because tire or wind noise won't dampen the engine sound. On the other hand no EV can emulate the experience of driving a manual transmission.
My theory is someone is trying to implode the dodge brand. It's obvious they know how bad these decisions are. I also don't buy the "regulators forced us to make this manly ev" line for a second. They for sure could have made more efficient combustion engines that comply with regulations (look at zr1). I genuinely think Stellantis just thinks dodge owners are mentally challenged and will buy anything if they tell them "it's cool and barely legal".
Body and interior they absolutely killed it no hemi thats a fail. I want them to bring back plymouth roadrunner or cude or even the gtx and continue the dodge challenger
I personally think Dodge needs to go into a different direction and appeal to different people than the Muscle car owners! Their issue right now is that they’re not diversified in their product and their buyers don’t want anything new!
despite its issues in terms of management and corpo stuff, i do like this car a lot. It's the closest i'll get to a classic one due to its retro style. If only stellantis wasn't soo greedy and actually cared about the US
I think it is quite easy to gain buyers when cars like this are just different and more exciting than the bland or too overstyled looking EVs out there. It is definetly out of my price range but from the available EVs today, this looks very attractive to me. I really like classic cars and ICE engines for the most part, but i am also just fed up driving them in day to day commuting; like sitting in traffic with the engine idling and putting nothing out but noise and pollution. EVs are just so much more relaxing

The entire reason that "muscle car" is a thing at all is because companies like Dodge actually listened to their customers. It was a pure popularity, fan based grassroots thing. Corporate types never liked muscle cars and regulators always hated them. Regulators tried to kill the entire category back in the 70s and nearly did so (we actually had a 4 cylinder "mustang" hatchback within a decade of some of the most awesome and collectible muscle cars ever). The entire segment is and always was about regular people who wanted a fun, badass car and didn't care how non-PC that was. When Dodge made the Viper back in the 90s, it was a rebel move, and the modern Charger and Challenger very much grew out of that spirit (Viper was the ultimate DGAF car, and the thinking was that people who could never afford one of those would buy something like a Challenger, which they did). So I am confused. Where is this weird idea coming from that it is Dodge's responsibility to properly "educate" it's customers to get with the EV program? Why is it now their job to condition people to buy stuff they absolutely don't want when their entire brand was built on listening to the customers and NOT bowing to PC pressure in the first place?
Instead of jumping in straight to EV, I think dodge should dable in transitioning tech such as - Electric turbo/supercharger - Electric front axle (AWD) - 48V mild hybrid system All of this transitioning tech can be implemented on their car without downsizing the engine or get rid of the v8. Imagine a charger with 1000hp from the v8 coupled with an electric turbo that has no lag, that'll be sick!
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'd be as happy with an electric Challenger as I would with a V8-powered option. Same great torque with surprisingly-good styling.

The Viper was the same for its entire 25 years of life, the LX platform that the charger/challenger were based off was used for 19 years straight, the Durango has been the same for 15 years…
They innovate their designs and nothing else. Internally, it's the same shit (or worse) year after year.
@Finraen i guess they didn't learn from the death of pontiac. Hopefully they realize it before its too late.
This is going to be a big fail for the Dodge!
Going to be? Already is.
Fact
No muscle car buyers want an EV. Even if the EV will deliver exactly the same experience as an ICE car without some of the drawbacks, muscle car owners are too stuck in the past, unable to look past the “good ol’ days” and demanding everything stay the same as it always was. There’s a reason the muscle car formula has not changed since the first muscle car in 1949

A big reason why people like big V8 muscle cars is because they want a street legal NASCAR sort to speak. People see those stock cars in races and wish they had that and that’s where the interest in muscle cars originated from. It’s also like a cultural thing associated with american culture.

Imagine looking at an already somewhat limited market and deciding, "let's make something that only appeals to 22% of buyers."

Both Harley and Stellantis have been purchased by globalist elites. Who knows what company they want next?

funnily enough, up here in canada its gonna be 58k, which converted to usd is like 41k, so we are getting it for around 18k usd cheaper for some reason (well I'm assuming so it can qualify for the credits).
@@chev555Plus govt incentives and the dodge $1000 incentive wouldn't that put it in Elantra N territory?
@Straightcoolin-qq1qs depending on the province, actually cheaper I think. Because I believe in total quebec gets like 12k in incentives, which that alone would put it almost exactly at the elantra n's price point. But even more importantly, in terms of other "sporty" evs (of which there really aren't many), this looks to be the cheapest option. The mach e is the mach e and is only like 5k cheaper, the model 3 has a bit more or around the same range but is much more boring and just generally worse in almost every regard (it's not even that light anymore), and all the other options are either just as expensive or more expensive than the base.

I really don't like how the front fenders and hood are arched upward not aligning to the rest of the body line.
EV or ICE-powered automatic ? Not much difference, because nowadays they are both smooth and refined to the point of boredom. And if you want HEMI-sound it is possible to just pump it out from the speakers, which may actually sound better, because tire or wind noise won't dampen the engine sound. On the other hand no EV can emulate the experience of driving a manual transmission.

despite its issues in terms of management and corpo stuff, i do like this car a lot.
EVs are just so much more relaxing
i think what gets the fans is the topspeed i heard something about the scatpack ev only being able to go 130
People just want v8s. Not 6 cylinders. Not an EV....ugh its so exhausting

You can absolutely tell the difference between the ICE and EV versions. The EV has an entirely different front end with the front "R Wing"
I would buy the inline 6 tbh
I'd buy the V8.
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanksbro is buying nothing
You will get laughed at. When you take this whale in for its many anticipated repairs hopefully Dodge still exists to fix it. Keep in mind Dodge has never been good at making anything outside of LX chassis Hemis.
@tingokuman we don't know what kind of potential there is in the hurricane . would the car need to be lighter, yes.weight reduction is needed,no question.but for a Daily Driven car.i don't see many negatives
@Desert_Rogue_Tanker Not true, engine is capable of 1,000hp
Making the Charger a muscle "Skyline GTR" is really a great idea.
Instead of jumping in straight to EV, I think dodge should dable in transitioning tech such as
- Electric turbo/supercharger
- Electric front axle (AWD)
- 48V mild hybrid system
All of this transitioning tech can be implemented on their car without downsizing the engine or get rid of the v8. Imagine a charger with 1000hp from the v8 coupled with an electric turbo that has no lag, that'll be sick!
I hope they release a limited edition version with a big HEMI V8! 💪🏼
Bro what!! It's already here, and it's a hot, the Bravado Buffalo EVX.
How much for just the complete roller, ppl will hellcat/big block swap it once out
I WILL SAY IT A MILLION TIMES IF THEY GAVE US THE CAR THAT LOOKED AND PERFORMED LIKE THE CONCEPT THINGS WOULD BE THIS WAY
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'd be as happy with an electric Challenger as I would with a V8-powered option. Same great torque with surprisingly-good styling.
I'm an ev owner (kia ev6) and I am interested in a EV charger if the price is right . I like the looks and I don't want to spend cash on gas. Electricity is much cheaper around here
I had a 2019 challenger rt, loved that car, the only way dodge will get me interested in an electric charger or an electric challenger is if they make the body that of a 68 69 and 70 charger and challenger
