Dear James, About you saying bank robbers drive E39’s in Europe: There is an Interview with some German Police spokesperson who explains that the big heists all ended up using Audi RS6’s as getaways because they have the best suspension and handles best at high speeds. So bank robbers in Germany are going 200 mph down the Autobahn.
There was a period here in Australia where the go to getaway car was the Subaru wrx (gc8), it got so bad we were the first market to have a factory alarm/immobiliser (as an option iirc)
In west europe, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany the RS6 was very popular for their AWD, insane speed and good cargo space for the heist. The RS6 and also 4 were notorious for being stolen all the time. Insurance was crazy expensive
I just bought my first car and it is a 2003, Pontiac, Vibe GT, with a FWD, 6 speed, manual, 2ZZ engine (made by Toyota/Yamaha), and it has a cold air intake. The Pontiac Vibe doesn't deserve the slander from the start of the video because by YOUR DEFINITION it is cool. It is 80-90% stylish, 100% unique, like 20% popular (but that makes them extremely cheap), and the functionality 110%. It is insane with a roof rack, ample trunk space, and every seat folds down flat except for the drivers seat. They are extremely fun cars to drive and I got mine (which is in great condition with 180,000 miles on it) for only $4,000! I'm so glad that it isn't popular because it allowed for me to get it so cheap. Also just to add to the cool-ness of it they usually go past 300,000 miles and the odometers are known for resetting. They will also go 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. DON'T DIS MY VIBE.
Inherited my grandfathers tackily red-on-red 93 F150 with the 4.9 I6 he had since new, and my father had a 95. When someone says "pickup truck" the 9th gen F150 is what I imagine everyone pictures, and it's still stylish. The 4.9 is absolutely indestructible, and I'd argue the best option out of all of them unless you're pulling a 5th wheel. Thanks for appreciating my baby James!
Just wanted to hop on to your comment to say I have an F350 with the 7.3 powerstroke. And while it is reliable it's more expensive to maintain. But it also gets better fuel economy. Downside of these trucks is that interior parts are getting harder to find.
As someone who just bought a beautiful e39 M5 (best looking sedan ever made, yes I'm biased), I can 100% agree that everyone should own one at some point
@@ryanwinter3203agree with all of this (E34 M5/LX470 owner). I dailied the M5 for two years like a crazy person and last year I realized I needed a proper reliable and reasonable daily so she can retire to being a weekend car. Was going to get a Maverick and be smart about it, but then got on BaT and left with a 20 year old Land Cruiser with bumpers that gets 10mpg 😂
@@jamesbeck1600 Similar story here; I had an e46 M3 that I daily'd for 3.5 years/70k miles, and then had my LX470 basically fall into my lap with a deal from a family friend that was too good to pass up. The M3 was just recently replaced with the M5, but they're two different sides of the same coin
You are not biased, E39 is easily one of the best looking sports sedans ever. And you know it’s got the inner workings to back up that look. It’s just perfection.
We all know it's a Corvair. But yeah, pretty cool. An engine in the back and it's NOT a VW Beetle? Unique factor turned up to 11! I had a class in college with an older guy who collected/worked on Corvairs. I never saw any of them, but he talked a lot about them.
I had a 92 F150 with a 300 in-line six with manual transmission. That truck was rock solid. Man, I wish I’d never sold it. Got a heck of a deal on it too.
Straight up; foxbody hatchbacks are the best. A little more space, better engine sounds from inside the car, and more weight on the back really helps in the snow
Notch is structurally stronger due to no hatch flexing when you drop the hammer. This is the main reason why most good drag mustangs are notch backs .the car is also inherently a little bit lighter without the extra glass in the back. At one point in my life I owned an 83 GT hatch I can verify that the hatch flex like crazy when the tires spun.
Nothing better than James in a video .. for all the months we missed I most certainly cherish all the new content thanks to the speed crew. We appreciate everything
Unpopular opinion: anything older and boxier is a good car. Especially the boring ones like Toyota Camry or Honda Civic. Pretty good gas mileage, comfy, and easier to maintain. Definitely watch out for rust though, and there aren’t many left.
E39 540i6 msport owner here! Great vehicle and platform. Had this car for 6 years, only thing that broke was the coolant tank, swapped to aluminum tank & alternator. Beside regular maintenance of course, brakes, suspension, rubber lines etc
The SAAB 900i was my family's car when I was a child and I loved that thing. So reliable, too, it always got us everywhere, no matter the weather or how empty the tank was, and never broke down or needed repairs. Obviously a lot of bias and nostalgia, but I have never felt as comfortable and content in another car as that one 🔥
I test drove a 540i with 100k miles on it, dude didn’t want to let it go for less than 12k. The engine felt good but lots of things weren’t working electronically. I passed on that one, felt like it was showing its age. I waited a week later and found an e92 (2008 335i), almost fully rebuilt. New turbos, index 12 fuel injectors, every bushing replaced under the sun, you name it. Also has a stage 1 tune, thing is making approximately 360 hp. And it’s in a 6mt 🤤Got damn lucky.
If you are miata/roadster fixated and can't afford the real deal, the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice are both insanely easy to get cheap and have engines with super readily available parts. Biggest issue though is having to change out the timing chain/guides every 80k miles
My dad has a 1985 Mustang GT Convertible that is a true 1 of 1. It was inherited from my grandmother that passed away. She and her husband bought it new in Connersville, Indiana in 1985, and to this day, only has 25K miles. I will eventually be the one fortunate enough to get it in the future. It's a really special car, and real car dudes know what it is when they see it. Nice video, bud!
@0Tony1 he does drive it. Multiple times per week. His mom passed away 2 years ago, and she never drove it. Just sat in her garage for whatever reason. When she passed, he got it restored, and has been driving it ever since.
I really respect you guys and the humility you show. Eric, I appreciate your witness and the sincerity you guys bring. I have followed you guys for a long time. The gun content is great but honestly, there’s plenty of that around; the way you share your faith is what I really admire. Thanks again.
Is that the same powertrain they borrowed for the SRX for like... a one or two year only option? They offered a 2.8 turbo for a very short time. I've only ever seen one.
@@GrockleTD no worries, after reading my comment again, I understand I could have worded that more clearly, sorry about that! I should have been more clear.
So glad you mentioned the Saab, it definitely doesn't get enough attention. You should check out the Saab 9000 too, amazing car with great power potential!
Especially the Wagon CTS, Chefs kiss. I currently have a 2007 V6 cts poverty spec I bought from my grandma. Super plush and has 64k miles on it, pretty nice car if you ignore the creaky GM plastic interior
It's cool to be a fan, I've never done that before or experienced what that feels like. But imma keep clicking and watching, I'm glad you're doing your own thing and hope it works out for ya!
My dad drove a Saab 900 in college (certified cool guy), my uncle built a fox body notchback dragster and still races it today (coolest uncle in the world) and my mom daily drives an E63 AMG wagon… even bought a second one in 2023 since it was “the last year they were making it” (I have the coolest mom, she is the best.) all of these cars are insane to drive and certified cool cars. Most agreeable D-list to date. o7 TL:DR these cars are cool
That is some SOLID life advice at the end there..I know it's said in a funny manner, but man, the number of people who can't get those basic life skills down is scary! Good message, and great video!
The classic 900 is awesome. This video does a great job of explaining its uniqueness. I’ve camped in the back of mine and always get compliments when I take it out for a cruise. I did a manual swap and engine rebuild, along with lots of upgrades, on my channel! 🇸🇪
I recently sold my 80 series land cruiser. It was the best car I ever owned. I bought it for $9,300 with 250,000 miles. Drove it like I stole it. Jumped it at every chance I could. Drifted it through the mud. Floored it everywhere. Road trips. Camping. Carrying 12 people. Crashed it. Sold it for $12,500 with 274,000 miles. Best high school car anyone can imagine. I know they’re getting more expensive because I’ve lived it. I really hope I can afford one down the line. Literally never once got stuck. But I did upgrade lowk, 2022 ford bronco 2 door Sasquatch high package. Still super dope.
Another good option is any 80s or 90s Japanese minitruck. Hardbodies, Mazda B series's and izuzus are all great and reliable trucks that are often 5 speed i4s with around 85 horsepower. Slow, cheap and incredibly fun
No one is gonna think you're cool driving a stock Isuzu Pup or Nissan Hardbody. A lifted Hilux with cool body stripes and a roll bar in the bed, maybe, but only if they know who Marty McFly is.
The Bertone coupe Alfa's have been my dream car since the early 2000's. Vintage Alfa engines were super advance and have a lot in common with modern Honda engines. All aluminum, wet cylinders, over head cams early mechanical fuel injection etc.
Those days are over... The rich (and unoriginal) have discovered that it is a "car enthusiasts" car and drove the prices sky high just so they can pretend they are car enthusiasts. See it all the time. Back in the day they were obtainable...
@@andrewhannam. Spiders, especially S2 and S3 iterations can be had for reasonable prices for a good one. Lots of fun to drive and definitely have that same Alfa soul. MY 1988 Spider Veloce is just as much fun the the '68 GTV my dad had when i was growing up!
Always loved that gen f150. Grandfather had one, father had one, passed down to me when senior in HS. Didn't make me no friends but I felt like a champ
@@sidgreentherhymeofreason I dunno an actual built Sl can give you some more cred. Because no one is doing it. Granted it has to be more built than exhaust, wheels and tires.
Jesse knows. That SAAB is a sweet vehicle. Till this day I love them. Also a fun one is the SAAB Sonet. RWD weighs like 1000 lbs. If you ever want to drift, the Sonet, is a slept on vehicle.
I drive a ‘93 f150 and a ‘93 GT. Just put 31 inch Ko2’s on the f150 and it’s beautiful. It’s easy to work on, pretty reliable, and I always look back at it when I park. I can confirm gas mileage isn’t optimal. About $60 a week for me. My fox is my baby. It’s pretty light and has 300-ish ft/lb torque virtually stock. You drop a gear in that 5-speed and it moves. Also, that pushrod sound with flow masters is just unbeatable in my opinion.
I just got a clean, dent free 98 Tahoe. It was the last year of the square body with the rear barn doors. Every time I walk towards it, I always think how awesome it looks. Great list James!
That’s a obs the gmt-400 platform started in April of 87. Not sure if it’s the same for the tahoes but I know for certain that a 98 is 100% a gmt-400 platform. Because 99 was the first year for the gmt-800 platform.
Just bought an OBS ford a week ago. Best truck imo. Durable as all hell, simple, cheap to fix and maintain. Doesn’t get better than that. That generation truck it really didn’t matter what engine you had. The 4.9,5.0,5.8,7.3, and 7.5 all were reliable as hell. The E4OD left something to be desired on the other hand lol
The car I learned to work on cars with was a 1986 step-side F-150 with 4 wheel drive and an EFI 302. My dad and I bought it for $800. I loved that pickup.
The Saab 9000s i think it was, was a little monster. Used to race it uphill to the houses my friends lived in, that and the 740il BMW were the only ones that could accelerate up the insanely steep hill. 5.0 couldn't, Grand Cherokee couldn't, 289 fastback couldn't. All Trac celica kinda could. Good times.
Yes! I saw the outline of the pickup and new it had to be the same one I have! I have a 95 eddie bauer f-150 with the 5.0 V8, 2wd, and an 8ft bed! I've had to do a decent amount of work on it, nothing crazy, but I love it to death! And it only had 121k miles!
As certain British trio used to say: "You cannot be a petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa". That said, e39 M5 for me, that was my dream car when I was a kid but now, when I can actually buy it, I find myself being attracted to 540i and 850csi (can get both for less money then 1 e39 M5).
Love the honesty on F-150 uniqueness "not at all, they made millions and millions and millions of these!" 😂😂😂 And absolute life lessons punched out in the final 30 seconds! 👊 Yoda'd be proud

I ended up with the 5.8, don't think you could go wrong with any of them.
That straight six could def pull a fifth wheel, won’t be fast, but it’ll do it
@ Absolutely it’ll do it. But if I had the fund to pick a truck to pull my 5th wheel, I’m going with a 7.3 PS
@ oh definitely. Better on fuel with the load, better torque, better gearing.
And while its not an 80 series, I also recently picked up a 100 series, and yes, I spend all the money on gas
In Australia, prices on these have exploded. 540I's are still decently priced, even if we only get the auto. I love mine.
You are not biased, E39 is easily one of the best looking sports sedans ever. And you know it’s got the inner workings to back up that look. It’s just perfection.
Until next time, I’ll be out there driving a cool car.
We all know it's a Corvair.
But yeah, pretty cool. An engine in the back and it's NOT a VW Beetle? Unique factor turned up to 11!
I had a class in college with an older guy who collected/worked on Corvairs. I never saw any of them, but he talked a lot about them.
Matt in any of his Corvairs will be 11% cooler than any of us 😆
Wait what didn’t expect you guys here
@@conneryates5073why not? Matt and James have met now in a couple videos
The Morvair is still your coolest Corvair, IMO.
I really love a notch
Boxy is back baby!
Mine is a hatch. I love utility things. So my hatch is better for me. Can't haul 4 tires home from a sweet deal with a notch back!
@@chrisschlis9440 I did it in my vert!
17:09 I love that the criteria for functional is that it has four doors and it’s fast 😅. Speaking to your people James ❤
I love that you’re branching out into different topics but I also love that you’re still doing plenty of car stuff.
Apparently I'm the only one who has been surrounded by people who think 50s 60s cars are cool. but everything else is ugly plastic junk.

As a Subaru guy, how could say something so controversial and so true?
The car’s coolness stems directly from our masochist spirit for enduring maintenance pain.

If you are miata/roadster fixated and can't afford the real deal, the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice are both insanely easy to get cheap and have engines with super readily available parts. Biggest issue though is having to change out the timing chain/guides every 80k miles
NB's & early NC's are pretty cheap too. solstice is a pretty car, though
My dad has a 1985 Mustang GT Convertible that is a true 1 of 1. It was inherited from my grandmother that passed away.
