The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[2] however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[3]:401-42
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala.
The 1969 model was built on a new platform with a 121-inch (3,100 mm) wheelbase. It was the end for the 427 and 428 engines, save for only the police package versions which continued to use the 360 hp 428 P Code 'Police Interceptor' as their top motor for 1969-70.[4] Replacing the FE series-based 427 and 428 engines was the new 429 cu in (7.0 L) "ThunderJet" that was introduced in the 1968 Ford Thunderbird; it was part of the new Ford 385 engine series. Power, at 360 hp (270 kW) for the dual-exhaust 4-barrel version, was higher than the 428's 345 hp (257 kW) and lower than the racing-bred 427's final rating of 390 hp (290 kW); there was also a single-exhaust 2-barrel version with 320 hp (240 kW) available. The dashboard was built as a pod around the driver rather than traditionally extending across both sides. The XL and Galaxie 500 Sportsroof had rear sail panels to simulate a fastback roofline.[4] The rear trim panel below the tail lights was used to distinguish the different trim levels. The Country Squire was, perhaps, the pinnacle of design for that wagon with the concealed headlights.
A taxicab, also known as a taxi or a cab, is a type of vehicle for hire with a driver, used by a single passenger or small group of passengers, often for a non-shared ride. A taxicab conveys passengers between locations of their choice. This differs from public transport where the pick-up and drop-off locations are decided by the service provider, not by the customers, although demand responsive transport and share taxis provide a hybrid bus/taxi mode.
There are four distinct forms of taxicab, which can be identified by slightly differing terms in different countries:
Hackney carriages, also known as public hire, hailed or street taxis, licensed for hailing throughout communities
Private hire vehicles, also known as minicabs or private hire taxis, licensed for pre-booking only
Taxibuses, also come in many variations throughout the developing countries as jitneys or jeepney, operating on pre-set routes typified by multiple stops and multiple independent passengers
Limousines, specialized vehicle licensed for operation by pre-booking
Smiled when I saw the luggage getting painted turquoise, my grandmother had a set like that. Nice build, thank you for sharing.
Thanks man!
Dumb and Dumber is one of my all time favorites :)
I put a 300 six in my model. I knew a guy who drove cab while going to school. His had a 300 six in it. One of Fords best engines ever built.
I've watched every single one of your builds, and my favorite thing about you is the total lack of drama and complaining. All fun and enjoyment, which is what its all about at the end of the day.
The luggage quote is from 'Dumb and Dumber'! I want my prize to be you doing these videos for another 20 years!!!
Excellent job again Mr steady Hand 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A Taxi cab, how cool is that???
Fun Fun Fun!!!! 👍👍👍
I realize this is a 70 however, when I build mine, it will be a moonshine runner like the 71 Galaxie Burt Reynolds drove in the movie "White Lightning." Can't wait to start this one!
I was about to ask what year that car was, that has got to be the coolest brown 4 door ford in the world!!!
Where doyou get the grill rockabilly scale kustoms
Really cool idea. I did a shine runner a while back. I’m going to be doing the McKlusky car too at some point.
Taxi: Memories of Cab 804. Great show.
Awesome build...love your style. I'm 60been building most of my life and you have taught an old dog so many new tricks! Thanks please do a 66 tbird some day!!
Fantastic build! I'm going to order two....one for a taxi and a second one to build as a promo. Good to see that the old style promo screws are included...old-timers like me appreciate that.
A taxi with a Boss 429 in it reminds me of Doobby's Taxiola in the movie "Planes Trains and Automobiles" where he takes the scenic route!
"It's the middle of the night"
"I know, I know, but he's proud of his town, that's a damn rare thing these days" xD
Yup!
And dingleberries hanging from the trim!
I Bought the 70 Ford Interceptor Police Car Version at a Now Defunct Toy & Hobby Store in October 74, Kept it White as an Unmarked Car, put the Red Lights & Flashers Mounted on the Front Dash & Back Window.
Never saw the Taxi Version of the 70 Ford, but I Rode a Real Life 70 Ford Interceptor Taxi, or Beatup Yellow Cab when I Visited Frisco back in September 75, when I was 14.
This is why I love this channel you have videos coming out all the time.
Don't have to wait for a month for a model build.
Keep up the awesome work Chris love it.
I appreciate that!
Very Cool model. Yes I will be building one of these. Love watching your videos. I've been building models for 60 years. And. Watching your show you still learn alot. Thanks and Happy 4th.👍🎉🎉🎊
On my first trip to NYC, I fell in love with taxis. Can't wait to do this build!
Have fun!
One minor quibble. The black primer under the wheels made them look green rather than yellow. Other than that, your usual high quality build.
thats just the brake dust
Great lesson in why you use white primer under yellow paint
TAXI! TAXI! I need a TAXI please! Another fine review and build, Chris! Keep them comin'!
You could make a cool diorama of the film taxi driver with this model 👌
I love that you did the police car version of this before getting the taxi. It reminds me of the time Detroit bought six new police cars that were stolen. A week later the local taxi company had six new cars roaming the streets. Oddly, they had push-bars on them. Just like the police cars.
Just another great build at the Workshop! Taxi theme adds a fun element! We have some of that luggage too! 🧳 great addition to other service vehicles. Have a SAFE 4th🧨 🚕
From The Grumpy Old Man, great video my friend!
Sweet looking kit for sure....
Off to the airport they go.....
How cool is the luggage very cool
Thanks for another awesome video Chris! Mines has been on order for a while now so I cannot wait to get it.
Very cool! Would make a great Weekend slump buster!!
Very cool. Love that yellow! Excellent it comes with luggage.
Ding ding ding! The movie is "Dumb and Dumber"! Another great build and fun watch. I obviously build models but i also collect diecast vehicles( hot wheels, matchbox etc) and like you i enjoy the work/odd vehicles more. Thanks for the post. Keep em coming!
Thanks man!
Never get tired of watching you work. Happy 4th of July weekend ✌🇨🇦✌
What a cool little kit to add to your stash! You could use this platform to build some really fun and interesting projects.
Long live light commercial builds!
Great build as always. I bought several of the 007 cop car versions of this kit.
The curb side suits me for this build and will give me a cool 429 SOHC for bit bashing. Thank you for the superb build!!!!🙂
I would buy a finished model from you in a heartbeat !! I’m a hardcore diecast collector and your builds rival actual diecast models by far wayyyy more detailed and meticulous !!
Great build Chris , the black vinyl back seat was easer to clean after the drunk barfed all over the back
Well Chris, you're going to make me buy and build this kit, lol!! This fun build and your fun presentation has made some money for Round2models and Modelroundup!! Enjoyable as always, have a safe Independent Day!!
Could you do a tour of all the kits you’ve made, I bet you have a sweet collection
Looks cool Chris. Thanks for sharing.
Love the taxi and luggage. Some of those cabs were huge, so they could take families and all their luggage to the airport, or from the airport.
wow my stepparent had a 1968 4 door Galaxie set in a garage all its life and never drive mush when the parson came to pick it up 900 miles it had on it the tire was original too he was going to put it in a museum too
Defiantly have to try this one. Found a checker-board decal set in my misc decal draw, I think it would look great on this model.
Beautiful model and beautiful work 😎 thanks for sharing!
Another great build, Thank You for sharing ! Hope you and your loved ones have a great/safe 4th of July weekend ! Tony
Another awesome build Chris.Have a great holiday Weekend
Nice build my friend 👋👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Got mine yesterday yours looks sweet a whole lot you can do with these kits built one as a shine runner
Looks so cool!!! Now I want one for me haha. Happy modeling, Chris!!
I know it’s just a Galaxie but wish they’d included the hideaway headlight grille from the LTD promo.
Love this build and the suitcases are a nice touch.
AMT makes some very unique kits, love this one and nice job!
You can make it a New York City yellow cab, a co-op cab or a police car from Toronto Canada.
Love the Ford Galaxie, nice job
I was looking forward to this tutorial since I saw it in the kits you were going to build and you did a great job on it! Thanks for sharing this.
Great build & review Chris. Round2 did a great job with this old tool to come out with a taxi version. So cool! Have a great Holiday W/E.
Another great build Chris! I will have to build this one since I've rode in so many hacks in my life. I wish they would make a model of the old Checker cabs like in the DeNiro movie Taxi! Great job again have a good holiday, thanks for sharing.
You need to get the Dodge Monaco 4 dr to make more taxis
Ah 1970. Where Boss 429 powered Taxi Cabs ruled the roads.
This would make a great Moon shine runner build
Thats what mine will be gators car. Lol
GATOR !
Another great build review! I need that luggage. 😎👍🏾
Great looking kit.
I have the police car that I'm making into our first street stock dirt track race car.
That you were talking about in your video the blue with chrome trim
Hey Chris awesome work as usual stay safe have a happy 4th
Taxi Data - in the 80's and 90's cities (NY and Seattle plus others) required Taxi Companies to buy and use ONLY retired Police cars. This kept Cop Cars out of the hands of the "bad guys" and supposedly gave Taxi companies "safer" cars. THAT'S why they had police interceptor engines. OK, that's enough, Ray - the BUILD. Oh, dang, I saw the finished picture and was yelling for a Taxi to take me to a time machine - NICE ! !
I’ll bet a blown engine would be replaced by an el cheapo 390 or something
Same base kit as the police interceptor? That 429 would be one thirsty hack motor -- and hi-test at that! (Nice wired illustration by the way.)
Excellent Taxi build Chris! I really enjoyed the detail here and absolutely loved the suitcases! Thanks for sharing and Happy Independence Day!
Hi... wasn't there a microphone for the driver to call "Danny DeVito" ...lolololol
Anyway wanted to say thanks again for the help finding the new version of the old "Future floor polish"...a few weeks ago...it worked beautifully...best always too you...
I would like to see you build one of these as a sleeper, some thing like Burt Reynolds drove in gator or white lighting. Just a suggestion. Love your channel. Thanks
Thanks!
GREAT OLDSCHOOL BUILD!! Lovely Ford :)
Thank you kindly!
@@hpiguy You're Welcome!! Love old copcars and service vehicles as well :)
Very nice kit , great work as always.
Question, do they make a Checker Cab 🚕 kit .
They would also be cool ?
Great video , I enjoyed watching. I haven't made a kit for 20 years but you have sparked my interest again. New AUSSIE subscriber
Enjoy the fun!
Another great build and review, Have a good 4th of july Chris
Great build, Chris (as usual), I just picked one of these up Friday at a local Hobbytown, so I was excited to see a buildup video so soon after, it's like you knew! LOL! Happy Independence Day, my friend 😊✌
Another awesome job!!!
The suitcases make the kit!
Great review!! Love the suitcases!!
Great job, it looks awesome!
I used the James bond version of this kit to make a pro street cop car. Had to use the pro street Plymouth gtx kit as a donor kit
Another nice one buddy, looks good as always! Keep on keeping on! 💥🎆🤘✌🏻
Looks like the car from the Liberty Mutual commercials..the ones with the Emu.
Molded in yellow. I can do a New York City yellow cab, or a Co-op cab or a Toronto Police Car from Toronto, Canada, they use to have the yellow police cars.
Chris, as always your video is the best! Last night at a model club meeting you were the topic of talk & it was ALL good! We all love your work, so keep it up!
You forgot to mention the woman suitably period in short skirt and white knee high boots. The 70 galaxies tail lights are pretty. The xl and Ltd models had the most interesting grill with hidden head lamps. I once had a 70 Ltd dealer promo. Love the enthusiasm
LOL, thanks Amy!
Don't forget to check out the FB page, it's got more fun pics and stuff!
@@hpiguy These are some nice 69 70 full size ford models btw

You never got to do a Tom Daniel Tijuana Taxi? You missed out if not. The Tom Daniel Hot Rods' are super fun.
The movie you was talking about had bill murry in it it was called stripes
Hmm - forgot about 67 "Supernatural" 4 door Caprice/Impala as another "canvas for those taxi accessories. Another thought is that many cabs of the era had a trunk mounted signboard with business advertising - perhaps some of those "hometown" sponsor decals for stock cars or even from model railroad source could work - even photo reduced of some local diner, dive hotel or motel.... Another "reverse engineering" kit-bash would use the Galaxie for a "Fire Chief's" car using accessories from '70 Impala issue.... Yeah Chris - as you always urge us all - have fun!
Great job as usual mate👍
I enjoyed the video, and the Great build..
The whole model is very nice, it is a pity that the headlights are not detailed, and do not have separate transparent parts. The Crown Victoria Police Interceptor has the same problem, manufacturers should take care of that, it really would not cost them much to get it right, the headlights are very important in the beauty of the cars. Bright yellow paint looks great.
You know what would have been really cool was if they had the opening trunk Deck like the 1965 FORD Galaxy by AMT so you can display it with one suitcase in the trunk and one out like someone is either unloading or loading the taxi cab but looks like a cool kit
Yes I know but I'm not that talented 🤣 just saying it would be cool
I have a 1970 Boss mustang with a measley 302 but the last 70 Boss stang I had had the 429 Boss engine in it so I think when I do get the 70 Ford Galaxy I will pull the 302 out of the 70 Ford mustang and drop the 429 in the Mustang.
Also I think someone should start a model car museum dedicated to you and others as well call me biased but I enjoy your channel so much more than others
Should have my three cab kits here by Monday, but what would you expect from a guy known widely as TaxiTodd. Can't wait to do a bunch of variant styles of paint job styles. If I like those three I'll probably stock up on more of them next month.
Plain but wicked cool at the same time.
Begs to be more custom w raised white letter tires
Fastest damn taxi in the world... Nice job mate 👍
Most of the Ford Galaxy taxis were repurposed police cruisers. The 429's were virtually indestructible so the savings on engine repair made up for the relatively poor mileage. Same for the heavy duty suspensions and brakes. They even had a small "Police Interceptor" badge on the trunk lid.
Nice way to mask off to do the chrome trim, but I would have sanded it off, taxis and cop ares would have been based on the Custom series, which was the low line “fleet” offering.
Wish all these old promo based kits would include the "curbside" engine insert option - wherever the wire axle is a given for front wheels. Yeah! Glue the hood down and save the usable engine parts for more detailed build - either factory specs or performance ... For taxi - except as ex-a gency/cop car - would be unlikely to sport big-block except maybe two hole single exhaust 390. Addition of luggage a nice touch, along with graphics is good! Maybe a minor kitbash for a '63 Chevy II or '65 Chevelle station wagon hack? Oh yeah, '77 Monaco would also bee a candidate - expecially latest CHP's issue with correct "skinny" wheel/tire setup.
Way to go chris,, lm going to make gators car out of mine 4 speed and all, dont know where to get the little bottles ( lol)
Awesome kit Awesome video as usual 😀thanks
I know it's not the right year but this could make a great "Gator" replica from White Lightning.
Funny.. I was in Hobby Lobby today and they had two in stock..!!
too bad Hobby Lobby discontinued their 40% discount coupons
@@Chekmate99 True but they still have 40% off every other week..
TAXI!!!!!! FOLLOW THAT CAR!
You know these cabs would have hundreds of thousands of miles on them, so that was wore out years ago! S till love you're videos!!
Sorry t y, the seat was wore out years ago. So they replaced a couple seats!
Thank you verymuch
