The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[2] however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[3]:401-42
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala.[4]
The similarly named Ford Galaxy is a large car/minivan available in the European market. The vehicle's name is believed to be derived from the original Ford Galaxie.
The 1965 Galaxie was an all-new design, featuring vertically stacked dual headlights. The cars were taller and bulkier than the previous year's. The new top-of-the-line designation was the Galaxie 500 LTD and Galaxie 500 XL. The LTD and the XL trim package were accessory upgrades from the base Galaxie model. Engine choices were the same as 1964, except for an all-new 240 cu in (3.9 L) six-cylinder engine replacing the 1950s-era 223 "Mileage-Maker" six and the 352 was now equipped with dual exhausts and a four-barrel carburetor.
Suspension on the 1965 models was redesigned. Replacing the former leaf-spring rear suspension was a new three-link system, with coil springs. Interiors featured a new instrument panel, as well as two-way key vehicle access: the introduction of two keys was for valet parking, where the rounded head key would only open the trunk or locked glove compartment, while the squared head key would only unlock the doors and the ignition.
A new model was introduced for 1966; the Galaxie 500 7 Litre, fitted with a new engine, the 345 hp 428 cu in (7.0 L) Thunderbird V8. This engine was also available on the Ford Thunderbird and the Mercury S-55. The police versions received a 360 hp version of the 428 known as the 'Police Interceptor' as police cars. The 1966 body style was introduced in Brazil (Ford do Brasil) as a 1967 model; it had the same external dimensions throughout its lifetime until Brazilian production ended in 1983. Safety regulations for 1966 required seat belts front and rear on all new cars sold domestically. The Galaxie 500 would be the #3-selling convertible in the U.S. in 1966, with 27,454 sold; it was beaten by the Mustang (at 72,119, by more than 2:1) and by the Impala at 38,000.[26] A parking brake light on the dashboard and an AM/FM radio was optional.[27] The 1966 LTD dropped the Galaxie name.[3]:423
For 1967, the 7 Litre model no longer carried the Galaxie name; it was to be the last year of it being separately identified. That identification was mainly trim such as horn ring and dashboard markings as well as the "Q" in the Vehicle Identification Number. The 7 Litre for 1967 was a trim and performance option on the Ford XL, which was now a separate model as well.[2] Little else changed, except for trim and the styling; the same engines were available, from the 240 cu. inch six-cylinder to the 428 cu. inch V8. Modifications to the styling included adding a major bend in the center of the grille and making the model less "boxy" than the 1966 model. An 8-track tape cartridge player became an option.[28] Back-up lights were standard.[29]
For 1967 all Fords featured a large, padded hub in the center of the plastic steering wheel, along with an energy-absorbing steering column (introduced late into the 1967 model year),[29] padded interior surfaces, recessed controls on the instrument panel, and front outboard shoulder belt anchors. Another safety related change was the introduction of the dual brake master cylinder used on all subsequent Galaxies (and other Ford models).
The 1968 model had a new grille with headlights arranged horizontally, although the body was essentially the same car from the windshield back. The 'long hood, short deck' style with a more upright roofline and a notchback rear was followed too, as was the new trend for concealed headlights on the XL and LTD. - Авто та транспорт
I'm neck deep back in this hobby after 15 years and i have you to blame... i mean thank! Been having fun!
Welcome back to the hobby. Chris got me hooked back into it two years ago after twenty years away! Lol. He does great work.
Green Green I love Green.I had the original kit when it came out in 1965.I built it as a super stock back then.Yea I’m an old guy still building models and still loving it.
Yeah I still have the one I built back in the mid 80’s , built it as a Super Stock/Gasser type deal. Course it’s been re-built and re-done a few times, where it’s been moved around and stuff so many times over the years, things got knocked off or broken or something, had no choice but to re-do it!
I love gasser models!
Same here!!!!!!!
I also like gasser model kits
You should make a video where you scrape all that paint out of your booth and then change the filter. I'd love to see that!
My booth is almost as bad
Super cool, I'm getting that kit to build for sure!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm a mopar guy but I love the 60s galaxy's thanks again!!!
Nowadays, kids would think that a gasser was somebody who farts a lot in crowds. 😲
Yeah no doubt!! Hahahahaha
I'm 16 and I know what a gasser is
@@shtboxgarage2323 👍
There is hope!
carcrazyalex04 - that’s a good thing!
Beautiful build!
My first car was Green!
1970 AMC Hornet!
Yes, I drove... the Green Hornet!
I love the mod podge tip for glass! So much better than clear parts glue. Haven't had so much luck with the gel pens. Not enough dry time? Another great build. Can't wait to get my hands on this one.
I feel a Ned Jarrett or Dan Gurney stocker coming on...
That's very nice .I'm 70 and when i was a kid building models i liked the WWII air planes. And when i hit my teens it was muscle cars. I bought a real Firebird 400
in 1968 because it knocked me out. Love them all.
Nice kit. I love the extra parts. Great job building it.
Nice build!!!!!!!! I immensely enjoyed this one Chris. Reminded me of the 66 Galaxy my aunt had when I was a kid only her's was a ragtop. I thought I'd let everyone in on a little tidbit. Back in the day racers and bikers believe painting a racecar or a motorcycle green was bad luck. That's why Kawasaki painted thier race bikes green so nobody on the race track would get close to them (much to the disapproval of the head honchos at Kawasaki) It turned out to be a good decision on thier part as they started winning races left and right
Once again, Chris shows what a professional is, his technique & eloquence is the best. Great build!
Thanks again!
I’ve thought about building this as a moonshine runner. With an opening trunk, it’s a natural choice. Get some 1:24/25 barrels, a keg, or some bottles, stick ‘em in the trunk, mix and match stock and racing parts…and you’ve got a great candidate for hauling white lightning!
I did my first model in 25 years, a 77 Firebird. Turned out great. This is the 2nd kit I bought. I'm in WAY over my head. Overwhelming.
One step at a time, then move on to the next.
Don't look at it as a rush or a job. Chill, have fun and step by step it will get done.
Nicely built gasses like the colors 😊
You do great builds and review. I use a lot of your tricks.
Hunter Green, great choice it's similar to British racing green i like it.👍👍
What a fantastic build, just loved all your creativity and ideas that you used on this build. I'm so excited to get this kit and build it but dont know if i will need two kits so i can do one as a gasser and one as a stock car cause both would work perfect. Going to think on that. Thanks again for the inspiration and ideas.
I sometimes use thin cardboard glued over unwanted exaughst n paint them as chassis reinforcements. Great work brother!
That's a great idea!
I dont understand why people give model building and watching a great person do what he loves to do, a THUMBS DOWN??!!!! I really enjoy watching his videos and getting new ideas on building models! Keep up the great work!!
I've picked up some very dedicated angry little trolls over the years.
We'll keep having fun and they can stay angry in their mom's basements.
Really like the green you used for this car. Thanks for a nice build.
Glad you like it!
Looks awesome Chris...
I like the hunter green that you used. It gives it a modern look, which is cool.
I'm GREEN with envy over the Green Gasser! 😁👍
man. you make it look so easy. awesome build, as always. that hunter green 🔥 is my favorite ❤️ color. nicely done. thanks for sharing. till next time. have a great dat. thanks. Mike.
Perfect Gasser build Chris! I love 🥰 this box art and have one on back order . Great presentation as always!!
Love the hunter green. That's a sweet ride Chris.
That’s the kit I was hoping you would do soon I love gassers and you brought this one to life
I always look forward to your videos Chis. Great build sir, keep em coming.
Thanks, will do!
Another good looking build
Gassers - coolest class on the strip.
Thanks for coming along for the fun!
The spare tire and jack are due to the trunk lid being open. The gas tank goes between the rear axle and trunk depression on a stock car, where the holes are. the headlight covers come from a prior NASCAR version. Racers tend to paint their engines white to easily spot leaks. Good point on the hood scoop, it's really not a scoop but a heat extractor like the original tear drop design found on Thunderbolts. When given a choice of two different colored decals of names for a car, i tend to put them one over the other, staggered, as if one is the shadow of the other--sometimes it works better against the choice of background color for the car (like a light shadow on a decal color close to the shade of the car itself)
Nice video--i did one of mine with the stock grill and John Deere Green as well.
I want that....nice one , Rock onnn Chris
Robert
Awesome build!! I really like your interior work!!
i like the hunter green color might have to get that kit
That's great it comes in that nice green easy for little ones to have fun with out doing to much painting. Might have to get this one for my son and I to do. Have a great week. Great build as always.
Love the videos keep them coming can't wait too see what you build next 👍👍🔥🔥😲🤙
The Holy Grail of Amt Re Issues, hopefully they will do a Gto and the Olds 442 Funnycars next along with some more gassers such as the 66 Chevelle and really want a re issue of the Red Alert Chevelle
Love the new music, sounds like a copy of Melissa by the Allman brothers
Awesome ,I like how you did the trim on the side .
thanks for the tip
Glad it was helpful!
Very cool build...love it!
Awesome build ! Like what u did with it ... Love Gassers
I got to build a version of this kit for the GRAVITY FEED RACING gasser class! You Rocked it!
Awesome
Another Great Video!! Thanks!
Dang bro! That's a beautiful car! Love love love the paint job!
Real cool
I have pretty much that same kit, car on my shelf now, but mine is one that I built 30-35 years ago, it’s amazing to me that I still have the dang thing, I have it and a 65 Chevelle wagon and a 65 El Camino, all which I built close together back then and all Gassers too! Those 3 are the oldest models that I have left, oh I’ve got quite a few other models ( cars) that are almost that old, probably 25-30 years old. Anyways, I definitely want to get one of those Jolly Green Gasser kit, I’ve always wanted to do another one of those Fords. Hmmm....with that trunk cut out, that would make a good candidate for a Pro Street too...? Hmmm......thanks buddy!
Great job bro!
This came out great, I want to order one now.
Super build Chris great job love it great colors thank you
SOO KOOOOOLLLL .
Awesome kit and build .
Top shelf . Mike Espo .
Awesome car my man.
Excellent review
Thank you kindly!
Fantastic
Always great. Outstanding builds. And Videos. Lot of builders can learn a lot. TY.👍 10
i have to get this kit, but i want it to be all original, with my kind of kit bash custom, whis an eye dazzling mild custom like you would see in the old days on saturday night on the strip, beautiful original car, on nice wheels, but a door slammer sleeper, this kit already has one of the most beautiful fords ever made, ( love the body lines) and the 427 is a plus,
The clear tree has a rare option for thet year Ford, a pair of aerodynamic headlight covers that were developed for legality in NASCAR. Neat kit!
Looks cool, like the gasser look.i enjoyed this build to thanks.
Awesome build buddy!!
So sweet my favorite color
I must apologise for skipping most the video to get to the end. I couldn't help myself. I just had to see it built! I plan on buying that beautiful kit and I'll watch the entire video before I build mine.
Very nice..one of your best
Awesome build thinking about grabbing this
Enjoy!
Just finished this one today.
I always get that beatles song in my head in the parts with the Strawberry Fields paint...
Right!
Very nice job
Your quick builds look better than my one-month builds.
Awe, thanks man! Build for you and enjoy what you make!
I gotta say I wasn't impressed when I saw this in the store but this review sold me. I'm also not sure I like the green plastic but I think I can get over that. haha
Lots of cool parts in this kit. I think I want to build up a street machine and make the exhaust look like it has cutouts, you know so you get the nice quiet ride until you flip the switch and send the exhaust out the straight pipes!
Edit: I commented before the end of the video, looks like you had the same thought!
Great video. Love that hunter green color. Very cool model.
Superbe très belle 🎸 maquettes 👍🏁
Thanks!
Reminds me of York US 30 Drag Way in 1965, a black 4 speed A/SS 427 Ford from Manheim Ford in Pennsylvania. I was always impressed by it, pure class, no sponsor billboard lettering, not decaled, just a pure stocker. I think Larry Hammer drove it.
Gassers were 55 Chevy's and 40 Willy's!
They ran the successful car until the 427 Cobra Jet Mustang appeared. Oil problems hindered the Mustang as the Ford factory teams were the only successful 4 speed Cobra Jets while automatics were very competitive for everyone.
Seeing you build this model makes me want to build it and eat Green Giant green peas and corn !
Really like the video, nice build really like how you reiterate build it like you want
that is so cool
Nice looking gasser another great job Chris!!!!
Great job. Love the details. 👍🏻🍻🇨🇦
Thank you! Cheers!
Another superb 'retro' build, great to see so many of these old kits being re-released. May I make a respectful suggestion ? - when applying the Tamiya PLW on the grilles use a (new) small chisel edged brush, you'll cover far more evenly, also give the contents a good stir, not just a shake, that'll also help with evening-out the coverage.
Keep up the great work, guys. Very best from New Zealand.
Great suggestion!
I have been waiting for this one
Cars like this ran in NHRA Super Stock, and or, FX, which was Factory Experimental classes. The engine in this kit is an FE, big block. Nice detail. A 65 Galaxie, like this one, would probably have been an A/FX car, with a 427 High Riser. Could be A/Stock without the hood scoop.Very cool build.
That green will only good, if your high as a kite! 😉😆😂
Great build and video kuddo! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Nice build as usual I don't like the green plastic but its a nice kit have a mint original hardtop and convertt the last issue was close to the original the interior has the converbul it has the dog legs this kit could be built as a custom stock or Nascar version sweet build as a gasser round 2 needs to keep white plastic it is the modelers choice original box art sells kits i have over 600 original kits been collecting for over 50 years know these kits like the back of my hand keep up the great work cant wait for the next build
Nice to see another reissue of what was argueably one of the best AMT annual kits of the 60's. Originally, a converitble was also offerred - would nice to see that one again! Originally this one may have been 4-in-1, with drag & NASCAR options, which may explain some of the roll cage pieces in this kit - not ususual for drag cars of the era. '65 Galaxie gasser? Not likely back in the day, but today, with "run what'cha brung" bracket racing, anything "just for the fun of it" is a candidate - kindo like Chris' modeling philosophy!
There were a couple of 65s running in B/FX in 65, Mike Schmidt and Bob Glidden both ran one, so not a gasser necessarily, but drag car none the less. Think Some ran the 289 instead of the the big block.
It's unique that the bulging scoop of the engine hood is not intake but outtake.
Same as the boxart
.
The green headlights are cute.
Nice build probably a 427 dual quad motor the top head light on both sides would be for the air intake to the air cleaner nice in a Forest green
Check out Uncle Tony's Garage to learn why the hood vents are towards the windshield... has nothing to do with heat. Love the model. Looks totally awesome.
Another great build so enjoy the channel, that poor spray booth needs a power wash
mmmm.... My first car was a light blue 65 Galaxie. I could just rescribe the door lines and make it a 4 door. Yup,... I can see that happining
Chris every time the wife walks into the room and catches me watching your vids she shakes her head and asks how much is this going to cost 😜. She doesn’t mind though, it keeps me off the streets! Thanks for all the content you provide.
Helping keep marriages together since 2006!
When this kit came out in '65,it had a stock car racer option. Thus the side dumps, etc
Very cool bud well done as always 😎.
I'm very tempted to buy another to build this version
You should!
i remember the jolly green giant commercial
I might have to quit this channel, I'm spending too much money watching. (LOL) As always super build great video.
Hahahahaha, ain’t that the truth though!! lol
is there a 12 step program for model building? LOL srsly, love tis channel, the kit reviews, the tips, techniques, and good folks in the comment section! build on!! :)
Stark Hickey ford is a real dealership here in Detroit
When i do the 3 in 1s I buy 3 and do the 3 version
I try to do the same as well that way I have all the versions.
good reasoning, but i never get all three, inevitably one or two turns kit bash, but i still have fun
Nice one. The kit looks clean and easy to build. I just wish AMT wouldn't mold these kits in color. (Minor gripe).
Fair enough!
Yeah, good idea for the windshields.
Glad you like them!
