  • This is an interview with the layout creator /owner Jim Brewer who is taking us on a guided tour of his incredible 3000Plus sq ft HO scale Shenandoah Valley Norfolk+Western HO railroad. Jim explains many of the layouts features and shows us many of the custom scratch-built structures built from actual prototype photos. The track planning and operations on this layout fully capture the flavor of what Jim is modeling and the scope, size and detail seen is incredible. We end our visit to this fabulous model railroad with a night time light tour of some of the impressive industrial complexes modeled and the town of Luray Virginia .

This has a spectacular feel to it! Thanks for the full tour of all the finely detailed industrial locales and the terrific scenery and creeks and towns of the area in 1956.

There are many good model railroads and a few great model railroads. Then there are masterpiece model railroads of which there are just a handful. This is one.

Wow, speechless with that bi level station in Waynesboro. This is extra cool for me because about 3 years ago I became inspired to do this very thing although I am modeling modern time period of these exact same places

I am in AWE over this Layout . I have been into HO Trains for almost 50 years , And have put together 17 layouts in my day . My last layout I donated to a fella that worked with Church Kids . Simply beautiful in many ways . 🚋🚆

Yes, you guys are correct. Industrial greatness. This is why we have railroads in America. The reason we should have model trains. IMO we should all model more industries. That’s why trains run.
And yes, that was one impressive staging area.
    Bigger than most model railroads!!
    One main question.,
How much for this whole layout?
    Is he independently wealthy??
    Thank you for sharing.
    Wow….

It is not for sale . To have something custom built that size to that level would easily exceed 300 grand.

Really a beautiful layout, just magnificent. I seem to recall years ago someone built an entire layout based on that rayon plant, possibly in Railroad Model Craftsman.

I can attest to the stink from American Viscose/Avtek Fibers. One of their last projects was work for the Space Shuttle program. Then the EPA shut them down.

Fences are made with brass wire and the stuff that women put under dresses to fill them out.
