Over the years I have worked in consulting engineering, I had worked on many projects like these I see in the video so I know how much effort it takes to design structures like these and integrate them into the infrastructure . Outstanding
@travelingman4581 Totally agree. Just another level of craftmanship. I've been involved in model RR'ing for almost 50 years, and I've never seen anything like this.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit this layout, go!. You will not be disappointed. This layout is a marvel. I was there November 4th also. I filmed the layout but Al’s video is much better. And he states it well, this is a work of Art.
During your introduction you referred to the model railroad as “a work of art”. Well said. How right you are. Too many people think of model railroading as “playing with toys”. They need to see what you are kind enough to share with us.
This is the most incredible layout I have ever seen. I would love to understand how he built all those buildings and bridges. He is a credit to the hobby and inspirational. Thanks so much for sharing this .
This has to be the BEST detailed layout I have ever seen. Bill has done an amazing job and I put him in the same category as the late great Bill Allen with his Gorre & Daphetid layout. So many things have evolved with kits scenery materials etc and Bill has taken detailing to another level with his skills and attention to detail. Thanks Al for an awesome tour, you have prompted me to do better with my layout.
This is a lot of money , time , and creativity. This has to be at least 30 or more years in this build. You hit a Gold Mine on this video of this layout..Exhausting just watching it.
This is a trip to my past for me. Although I resided in Massachusetts during the 1960's I saw many scenes and heard many of these railroad sights and sounds. I wish my late father could have seen this, for he dearly loved anything railroad and railroad modeling. Spectacular!
Of all the layouts I've seen on UA-cam this one is mind bogglingly busy. By far the best layout out there as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad I stumbled across it. I feel compelled to travel from the Midwest to see it in person.
That layout transcends the boundary between super-detailed and pure madness! It looks like a million hours went into creating it, and possibly the same amount of dollars. Just stupendous.
I thought only George Sellios was capable of doing layouts like this. 🙄 This is AWESOME! I was hoping to see a lot more traction equipment running around the layout with all that catenary above the tracks. I'm a traction fanatic, so I was a little disappointed there. But, still, I am really impressed with the details in this layout. It's difficult to imagine a single person putting this whole thing together. What a masterpiece! I'm glad to have seen it!
Man there is an "in cab' tour of this layout from about 7 years ago. Perhaps that'll satiate your primitive urges LOL: ua-cam.com/video/GVJ7xfkdx6M/v-deo.html
Oh crime in Italy. He has shipyards and everyhting in there. Good stuff , I considered getting into this hobby but it's quite expensive to do right and I'm certainly mature enough to skip the the beginners set. Learning to work on some old cars would certainly help but I'm not quite over my first love of guitars.
Una fantástica ciudad y con infraestructuras de gran creación, que lo que no tiene son trenes, que es lo que observo. Creía que era una maqueta de trenes pero me defraudaron. . .
I remember reading an article on a layout with operating overhead catenary back in an early 1960's MR and wonder if this is the same one. It sure is a beautiful piece of moving artwork!
It's explained in my other video on my channel great buildings on Bill kachels layout. View it to see. You might want to watch all 3 videos I uploaded in my videos on the channel
Absolutely beautiful layout. Other videos do not do it any justice, one more question do they switch out industries? For example the steel mill the gondolas look beautiful, are they scenery? Or do cars get shuffled around? Either way stil a Wow😮 layout. Tuff call between this one the FSM and Howard Zane. I guess if you do an interview those questions will be answered. Look forward to it.
I'm in the process of building a layout the Northeast corridor from NYC to shore points nj nj transit, Amtrak, conrail, and winchester and western freelance all cantary up like this be great to see this in person
This is an amazing model, very good video also. I searched for open house dates, but could not find anything. Can you point me to a website that lists open houses for this and other model railroads?
It was advertised 2 months ago all during October November. I do not know when the next open house will be but if I find out I will pass along the info . The website was modelrailroadopenhouse.com
Very nice model .................. congratulations !!!

I cant believe one person did this. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe this layout.
Amazing doesn't begin to describe this layout. Bill's attention to detail is unreal. I can't imagine how long the catenary took to construct.

I like the barges, boats, ships, USS Isherwood Destroyer. The modeling of "Horseshoe Curve" is great. My first time seeing that landmark modelled.
Impressive 😁

Just wonderful !!!! Do not get a cat!!!!
Howard Zane,George Sellios,Bill Kachel and Boomer are the 4 best model railroaders on the planet...period.
DAMN!!!
WOOOOOOOOW!!!
Very enjoyable to watch such great detail. Is this modeled after any specific city or just a city?
I have seen other videos, the catenary system on this rr is amazing
I’m in absolute awe! Where is Sunnyside yard? LOL
My God! That was magnificent. Has his layout been featured in any of the magazines?

Wow. That is awesome. I wonder how many man hours that took to build.
WOW!! When you are ready you need to donate the whole thing to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC.
He has a lift bridge that looks exactly like bridge one on the Cuyahoga river, the whole thing is mind blowing..
1st naval ship was the USS Isherwood DD-520 Fletcher class Destroyer
Can I ask how did he build the Penn train station, that is AWESOME

This is an incredible layout. Was that a model of old Penn Station that used to be on 34th street in New York?
Lucky dude
Does anyone know what city this is replicating. NY or somewhere in PA?
Now that is modelling, but how do they keep it clean?
