Sheila fights for custody of the Native American kids and clashes with Sammi about where they will all live once Frank is released. Lip catches up on bills with the money he got from Amanda's parents. Fiona, meanwhile, passes a drug test, gets sprung from jail and lands a job at Patsy's Pies with the help of her parole officer. Also, a more cognizant Frank begins to feel like his old, troubled self. Season finale.
A post-credit scene following the Shameless Season 4 finale on Sunday revealed that Steve Wilton aka Jimmy Lishman (played by Justin Chatwin), who was murdered off-screen by Brazilian mobsters at the end of Season 3, is in fact alive and well and back in Chicago! (This actual ending!)
Now going by Jack, the scene saw Chatwin's character pull up to the Gallagher house with an unnamed woman (played by Dollhouse's Dichen Lachman), who asks if he'd like to go inside. "No, not tonight," he says, before driving off as the screen cuts to black.

Shameless is overall amazing! But season 4 is just on another level. The soundtrack, the writing, the acting, everything is a a masterpiece! I get goosebumps every time!

When I saw this I honestly thought he was going to throw the bottle into the water. Bravo for subverting my expectations. You tricked me into thinking a character like Frank Gallagher could change his ways, but addiction, and old habits die hard. Masterpiece of a scene, and a season, well done.

Carl showed so much love for Frank in that Season. It showed how caring Carl really was.

Agreed everytime I start to watch the show I start on season 4. I honestly think it's because of frank. Macy's acting is absolutely phenomenal from being a desperate man about to die he gets the liver but is out of it with the little girl he thinks is fiona and then here just perfect I don't know how else to explain it

As a former alcoholic: it is all spot on. The weird location, that only makes sense in your brain. Having it on ice, for the drama. Having your kid with you out there. It makes sense of a drunk.
That acting from Macy after he yells out in anger, sheesh. You can feel the pain and misery of existing on his face
Oh yeah, once his initial burst of euphoria from surviving and "winning" is done, he realizes he didn't win shit, just more continuous suffering. The look of realization on his face is so well done.
Yes you can see it the water in his eyes and the continued suffering he will go through right up to his death... especially when he says a little nip won't hurt you, and it will it so ironic
Season four was such a painful, but beautiful season to watch. One of my favorites!!
Such a beautiful final. It's so hopeful. The fact its just Carl and Frank, especially after how the two bonded a bit in earlier episodes. And location/song was so good.
I’m a transplant patient due to alcohol (like Frank) and it blew my mind that he has a bottle in his hand already. But so poignant. Even with a second chance, Frank will never change. Despite the personal connection, I still loved this scene. I actually cried for him.

This seen is an absolute masterpiece. Season 4 nailed it. What a roller coaster of a season. So powerful
For him being an alter boy, this has to count for something. The writers and soundtrack organizers of this show can’t be thanked enough. I have watched this show over and over and over. Can’t get enough.
When he says alive for the final time is probably the best part of this scene's acting. He probably just then realized how actually close he was to death and how he has several years ahead of him again. Kind of a euphoria.
I've gotta say, season 4 was the best season by far. The Jimmy break was exactly what the show needed. His total pampered prince personality was all bright and shiny for everyone to see last year. When one of a shows main characters that you're supposed to be rooting for starts to become unlikeable, its time to give that character a break.
Without all of the focus on the Fiona and Jimmy relationship part of Fiona's character, we got to see some real depth to her. Yeah, they've shown some vulnerable moments from Fiona but they never really delved into her character the way they did this season. Fiona was left to her own devices without Jimmy being a catalyst for most of her actions. The downfall and redemption storyline of Fiona's was actually amazing, and would not have worked if Jimmy was in the picture at this point in time. Jimmy's lows would have outshined Fiona's complete downfall. Fiona needed to make all the glaringly wrong choices herself with no one else to influence her, and then work to win over everyone's forgiveness which would have never happened with Jimmy in the picture because it would have been one of those "Oh, you made that choice because of Jimmy" moments that get easily forgiven.
Also the Ian/Mickey storyline was my absolute favorite thing about this season. The way Mickey went to all out war for Ian's heart when he realized he had a second chance with him, made me wish I could find a man like Mickey. Mickey started off the season just trying his hardest to fake it through another day pretending that his spirit wasn't broken without Ian. I honestly do believe that Mickey married Svetlana to save Ian's life. I believe Mickey's dad would have killed or at least tried to kill Ian if Mickey refused to marry Svetlana. Maybe it was just something I noticed but every time someone mentioned Ian's name around Mickey, you could see hope in Mickey's eyes. During the last Mickey moment of the season you could see that Ian had won Mickey's unconditional love.
Over all I loved the season and wonder how they'll top it in season 5. Imma be pissed if Ian and Mickey get broken up after we've waited since the first time they fucked in season 1 for them to be together.

Jimmy is the worst fucking character on the show. He’s so annoying and smug.
Once in a while, there is a character from a book, a movie, or a TV series, that really sticks with you. Frank Gallagher is one of those for me. I still think about him almost daily.
Also, the character of Samantha was a perfect addition to the show. I think she has a lot of potential for storylines. We've met all of these characters while they've already been let down by Frank. With Samantha, we might actually get to see her journey of realizing the fact that Frank isn't a very good person at all from the beginning.

This is the MOST PROFOUND ending of any series. Permanently. The scenery, Frank and Carl, God and the music. It's a perfect fit.

2019 my first time in recovery I relapsed while watching this scene and man what a dark journey lost everything including my kids today I am over 18 months sober and I have everything I had then and more including my kids. Learn to heal and most importantly self love yourself
This moment was amazing, really just perfection. Growing up being surrounded by addicts and it living in my dna this is the perfect picture of what it is like. A broken person so disgusted with themselves but not willing of able to stop after it almost took your life. And the disease silently spreading. “Addiction is a choice”, yeah fair but i’ve seen so many people who are not strong enough to stop and fall back every damn time. The acting is so perfect it broke me in to little pieces, cried for almost an hour, bravo.

This scene changed my life forever❤ i stopped drinking and smoking weed too much and started getting healthy. I moved back home to my parents to make a mends then i left my home country and fast forward now im happy, healthy i haven’t been broke since 2020 and im grateful!

@@marcusford8432 I’ve watched every season. Frank realize god kept him alive for punishment and a Reason, Frank saves his family from a drug dealer, saves Fiona from marrying a dope. Frank still has heart. Addiction is real thing remember that.

It saddens me deeply that such a masterpiece has ended. I remember the first part I saw on cnbc-e. Damn, they were kind of like family, Gallagher's, and I'm not going to forget you for the rest of my life. It shouldn't have ended like this. an audience
I still remember how my jaw dropped when I saw him leading the bottle to his mouth instead of throwing it away. After all they went through to get him a new liver. Shameless really was something else.

I’ve started watching Shameless only recently, it’s been a roller coaster of emotions continuously, and I have to say the only damn constant element in the show it’s Frank’s unending capacity of fucking up again and again.
But in this scene, when he says “Alive…” the second time for once I saw something that in all the other seasons we never actually see: regret. There’s something in those eyes, when the immense joy of surviving death disappear that really comunicate a lot. Frank realize that he’s still alive, he’s still drinking, nothing truly changed. And his triumph disappearing in that melancholic “Alive…” to me it’s God answering him. (I’m not religious or anything but I do believe that in the world of Shameless there is an obscure force that believes it’s stronger than Frank! And this scene, for a moment, even he thinks it is)

I've always wondered if that pass-off to that next-generation of drunks/dysfunctional cycle- with that one simple phrase - "one little nip won't hurt-ya" - was actually part of the script, or if the child/teenage actor was so scared of drinking at that point - that Macy softened the line a bit to re-assure him. Surely they weren't drinking real alcohol on set - but shit; what a way to turn real-life in reality acting.
Remains one of the most beautiful moments in the entire show. I think about this scene quite often.

It’s very rare a show ever hits emotionally for me. This scene had me feeling in ways I’ve never felt before. Unbelievably well written. The whole season was amazing. Unfortunately the show just was never that good after this. Atleast for me anyway
I totally agree, this episode was the peak of the whole show for me.
Frank is so deadset on clinging to his addiction that he thinks he's winning here. Standing at the edge of a frozen lake screaming at God while blaming him for his liver failure, imposing profound meaning on taking another drink. Meaning that isn't there, as it amounts to no purpose other than self-medication for the problems he's created himself.
I ended up here after googling "Zero from Holes in Shameless."
Genuinely one of the best scenes I’ve ever watched.. I put off watching this series for so long because I loved the original. But it’s just incredible… William H Macy’s Frank is such an evil bastard.. but he plays it so perfectly that you do genuinely empathise
