It's easy to burn rice that way though. I prefer to just steam it since I don't have to worry about burning the rice and I get to save on electricity by laying off the rice cooker. Gas is cheaper anyway. Sometimes I get to even save on that by steaming something else on top of the rice when it's already semi-cooked.
And yupe. This means I ain't some pansy ass induction stove user either. /smirk/

Like instead of boiled eggs, you steam instead, you can stew foods in there. Instead of stewing, you can reheat the leftovers. It takes a little space and you can take it to work or travels to save on eating out. It's healthier too since you cook enough to eat and have no leftover so you won't be eating leftover the next day.

I felt this so much being from Seattle and of Hawaiian ancestry, and now living in France for the last 6 years. When I moved here I hated the little rice bags and wanted to find a proper bag, finally I found where the Chinese/Vietnamese district was, and it took some convincing but my french husband finally relented to letting me buy a rice cooker. Because I also found the boiling and straining like pasta to be tragic as well not to mention it's not the right texture and if you want to make sweet sticky rice for dessert, it will burn and stick to a pan. Love this joke and I bet my sister who is half Filipino will find it hilarious as well. ❤❤

latest invention is simply put hot water into dried cooked rice and after they absorbed the water they tasted like real rice. but a bit expensive even in Hong Kong as the best brands are from Japan. Chinese ones are ok too

uncle roger is right, even those generations away from the Asian roots like me know the importance of a rice cooker, pressure cookers can also work but nothing topples a rice cooker.
By the way, once my rice cooker broke and i was at university with no money to buy a new one so i did the microwave one, it was disgusting, it was not evenly cooked and some parts were completely uncooked, i immediately bought a new one from the closest shop after borrowing some money.

He’s took the piss out of himself and the audience, that’s what good comedians do!
