  • Long time no see everyone! I recently found this vintage furniture at an estate sale for only $150, paired it with some $10 GREEN "oops" paint from the mistint shelf at Lowe's and antiqued it with my signature wood stain glazing. I REALLY appreciate how you explain so many seemingly little details about the work you do on these pieces! Like on this one- your experience with eggshell sheen paint and glazing not always working out well together. Plus your workaround for it. And tips about water-based glazing vs oil-based stain. Plus tips about primers or finish coats. And all about various sanding tools & techniques give you the best outcomes. I could go on and in... but you get the picture. 😉
I learn a lot from your videos, and
I love your dedication to quality work! It shows in every piece.

I honestly don't have a problem with painting wood furniture so long as it looks appropriate. I think you did a fantastic job using a color that is appropriate for the decade that furniture. For me, that's what makes it...okay?.....for lack of a better word for it. The style and the color totally reminded me of the original The Parent Trap. Totally would fit in that house! Again, great job, man!

From watching your video I learned six new methods: (1) the screw/dowel hack, (2) the dish brush, (3) TSP without phosphate, (4) vacuuming dust inside the furniture, (5) feathering out deep scratches, and (6) adding polyacrylic to low gloss paint. The big plus was watching your glazing technique. Overall the re-do of that furniture was spectacular right down to the color. BRAVO! l

Personally, I think this color does the entire collection a lot more justice. The original, dark color hid all of the intricate details and made the collection uninteresting. As far as the hardware, I was expecting you’d go for a different color, maybe lighten it up a bit. The hardware draws too much attention. All in all, this is a beautiful transformation. Glad you gave those pieces some much needed upgrade. On a lighter note, did your hair get jealous of the collection’s new look that it asked for one too? Hehe.

Dear Shabby, I just read all 800+ comments and I’ve watched this video at least 4 times! It inspired me to NOT spend $1000 to buy something from Pottery Barn, but to buy my own piece, save something that someone else discarded, put my own personal touch on it and treasure it in my home for years. All for less than $300! I can’t believe all the internet trolls out there, people are such a-holes! Haha! Your pieces are awesome and there are lots of people out there that want something with character in a cool color! (ME!) Keep up the good work! I’ll keep watching and cheering you on! 😊

Great work! I love the transformation! I’m always perplexed at all the comments I read on furniture painter’s channels from people upset that you’re painting over old stained wood pieces. People have been painting furniture for 100s of years. Just look at old pieces in Europe that have many layers of different paint colors. Also, in my professional opinion, paint actually preserves these pieces. If someone really wanted to, they could someday, remove the paint and restain the piece. Not to mention, furniture artists save many, MANY pieces from ending up in landfills. In my experience, the “traditionalists” complaining about painted pieces aren’t even buying these old stained pieces that they claim should be saved. Keep on painting your heart out! You have a gift for sure.

Stunning, gorgeous work, as usual. I never would’ve thought to paint furniture this color, but the whole set turned out so beautiful! I love the armoire with those ikea style drawers! What a cool piece

That sure turned out beautiful! I love watching you paint. You pick great pieces to paint, you show all the steps from removing hardware to cleaning and the paint you use and the final piece....the glaze! I'm happy to see you wear protective gear when needed. Whoever buys this piece is gonna love it.

I have this exact set of furniture that has been sitting waiting for paint. I’m thinking of making the dresser into a kitchen buffet. Plannin on green as well only gem tone emerald & changing out hardware to gold. Thanks for showing me all the things to look out for😉.

You're braver than me! I would have hit most of that crazy detail with some Bondo and made it flat 😂 Great job.

Missed you ... glad you posted this video. I love to see how problems are solved ... so thanks for the hinge screw fix. I always "hesitate" when you show an odd base color but by the time the video ends, I am visualizing your reworked gorgeous furniture in my home. You are a true craftsman!

I visited my son and daughter-in-law in Indiana two years ago. They needed a large dresser and I found this exact one on Craigslist. It was so heavy but worth the $40 but painting it sure made a world of difference! 👍🏼

Good job and well described how you did it. Am in the middle of a much simpler ebony staining of an odd shaped wooden wine box so this more complex process was fun. Thank you
