- I found this piece on Facebook Marketplace for $25 and decided to do a furniture makeover using paint and stain to glaze for an antique effect. I also stained the wood top with Minwax wood stain. I hope you enjoy my furniture makeover videos and learn something from them!

I absolutely can not thank you enough for how detailed you are as you go. It makes me feel like I could do this! Your work is stunning.
Ditto
You might like checking out this channel Thrift Diving it's a woman who does some interesting furniture and other things.
You have a very calm demeanor. Watching you work is hypnotic. You have a great eye and talent for what you do. That blue with the glaze, nice! Great experience, thank you!
older pieces of furniture are much better made than modern furniture. And you just Ramped it up into the 21st century .Another amazing make over .WOW
I really like that this had no gold wax applied. Perfect!
That turned out to be one of my favorites you've done, wasn't too sure about the blue at first, but after you added the dark it turned out stunning. Nice job
Thank you so much!
I’ve been watching you for years and this is one of my all time favorites that you have done. The blue looked good as it was just painted but the glaze made it look ten times better.
Right?
You do awesome work ,I love it.
I'd like to see more projects incorporating color. This is beautiful!
That looks fabulous. I am very impressed with the amount of manual labor you put in instead doing machine everything.
Wow, wood stain to make it look like a vintage paint job 🤩 nice!
I am not a fan of bold paint on furniture but this has converted me. It is beautiful!! Great work. 🙂
I love when you break out the different colors! This looks great!
Thank you so much!
Normally I don't like painted furniture, but that blue looks just right on that piece.
Shout out to being a fellow left-hander
I love your work and am happy to see you use products that everyone can purchase locally at a decent cost -thank you!
Glad you like them!
This was an EXCELLENT video! You explained everything plainly and thoroughly! THANK YOU!! Need more videos like this!
stunning transformation……you work so methodically and explain as you go. Good to know
what products work and when to use them. Your vlogs are empowering !!!
I like how you keep the tops of the dressers you paint just stained; idk, purely colourful furniture feels too modern to me and looks a little cheaper than it is. The top makes it look luxurious.
Love that blue!
I could legit watch you work all day long. Very mesmerizing. Restoration work is so cool, giving tired old pieces some Youth serum.
Wow! what you do to furniture can only be classified as art!! You are so talented and thank you for sharing with us. I had never seen stain used for a glaze. It is gorgeous!!!
I’m so in love with everything you do. This blue piece is amazing!💙
This is my favorite piece that you have done. The color after the stain was applied is beautiful!
Another show of your creativity and attention to detail. Very nice job.
definitely my favorite piece on youtube.
I’ve finally worked out what I want to do with my life.
Stumbled onto your UA-cam videos, just beautiful work! Quick question, after each video, would it be possible to list all the products you use, a kind of “shopping list”? Cheers
Wow what a great finish the wood stain gives. 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏❤️
Technique is excellence in application on this piece. The results are the a reflection of a process done right! Beautiful.
Love the color and everything about this piece! Great job.
I was not initially sold on the blue but I will say that came out so beautiful. I am a newbie and have been watching many videos and I have enjoyed watching your videos. I hope to start my first project soon.
Thank you so much!
tell you are US... colors in Spain, etc too much for you, oh
I am so in love with this technique. Way better than the whole chalk paint craze that's going on right now ... come at me bro, I said what I said.
Awesome work, very talented!
You are a great teacher of your craft. Thanks for showing us how to do it correctly.
Turned out perfect I can’t wait to watch the next one and one of my new favorite channels great job
Thanks so much 😊
Love the tone of the Blue! Keep going dude!
That's the plan!
wow , I kept thinking I dont think I like that blue color, but once it was done with the glazing I love it. This piece is gorgeous.
I love the way that turned out. I'm definitely intrigued by the glaze technique you do👍🤗
I would not have chosen that color, but it turned out amazing! Very nice!
You make it all look so easy! This is the first video of yours that I've seen. I love how you present each product to the camera. It's both helpful and comical at the same time. 😁
Thanks so much! 😊
I absolutely love everything you do.
Your attention to detail makes the final piece amazing! Thanks for all the tips, I feel as though I just might be able to try refinishing myself. Gonna start small!
Hi there! I'm amazed at the awesome completion of this project! Damn I've never been able to get my stripper to come off that clean! I wasn't digging the blue but holy s. It looks like a million bucks. I love that you used stain for a glaze! Awesome job. I've subscribed. I love learning new techniques! TFS D
I just ran into your channel By accident, I watched this video I am a designer and I was amazed at what a great job you did such a beautiful finish on that piece of furniture. I have subscribed to your channel and I will continue to watch your videos great job keep up the good work.
I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for subscribing! I'm trying to get another video out by this weekend. We'll see. :\
This is so so beautiful and rich. I have a Ashley's queen size 4 post bedroom set.. got it second hand and definitely needs to be revamped.. I believe this look would be amazing.. your teaching is simply amazing and enjoy watching techniques..
I like how the color for the top and the stain used over the blue matches the hardware. Nice.
Just found your channel, so my first video!! The drawers are stunning!! Love them so much!!! Going to watch some of your other videos!
Welcome!!
that is just gorgeous, love the deep blue. New, subbed
This was mesmerizing to watch. I wasn't sure about the blue, but once it was finished, WOW!!
WoW! Great project, gorgeous work, well-executed from action to voice over to editing.
***Side note - Every UA-cam DIY-er could learn from this production / presentation!
I wasn't sure how I felt about the blue when you started it but it turned out beautifully. Lovely work, thank you for sharing.
Thank you! 😊
I didn't know about this glazing technique of applying stain over paint, but man did it hug those crevices and make the main color stand out. Great work!
This has to be my favorite piece, that I have seen you do. Truly excellent work.
The blue is gorgeous. Its the perfect color for that piece.
Just found your channel... it’s so relaxing to watch and I’m learning some new things! Love your work!
Awesome! Thank you!
The top is made from a veneered mdf. That’s why the edge shows the particle board once the top is machined and you have a thin real wood top.
I know that this comment was directed at Shabby, but thanks for that input. I stripped a Broyhill sofa table and was surprised to see particle board. My table looked similar to the piece in this video. I was surprised that Broyhill didn't use all wood. Anyway, I will move forward with my project!
This is a beautiful piece. Typically not a fan of color on wood but this came out so nice! The stained top, shade of blue with the glazing and the hardware... perfection.
This looks amazing one of my fav by far!
Wow amazing job!!! I love the color! Looking forward to work on my old furniture belong from my grandparents this summer. Love your videos and learning more from you.
Awesome! Thank you!
I just love the bold colors you paint with.
I absolutely love it.. The knobs for you because you're the Shabby Guy of course. As for me I would have went with something brighter for the knobs. You have givin me the color I want in my sun room
Your work is excellent but my preference is still the original look. I am beyond impressed with these amazing pieces of furniture you are finding for such a great price.
Your project is perfect, OMG, I love the color and the glazing, how gorgeous is that!!!NICE, I wouldn't change anything. I must not be lazy .....I hit that Subscribe Button
Thanks for the kind words and subscribing!
Oh wow, that became so beautiful, you can actually bring it over to me here in Luxembourg right now, I have just the right place for it hehe. No, but seriously I wouldn't have done it any different way, love the finish and especially the colour choice. Great job, thumbs up :)
And if you cant find that address just come on over to Tracy, CA...lol
Great color!! And another fantastic job! It's good to see the steps you take....qualify work!
There's nothing more you could do. It's PERFECTLY beautiful. Thanks for letting us watch.
Love your videos, your pieces are beautiful and I'm learning a lot! I was wondering, how do you decide whether to strip or sand off the old finish? I have a French Provincial dresser I want to refinish.
Thanks for watching my videos. 😉 You strip if you want to stain. You scuff sand if you want to paint. You can try to sand to the bare wood to stain but I prefer stripper.
Oh bummer I was just at Walmart I know I forgot something. The stripper!!!!
Always love your work. Be safe stay safe.❤️💕
ABSOLUTELY love it. Love the colors.
That came out really nice. Didn't expect that blue to change like that. Love it!
I didn't think I would like the paint color but I do.
Really like the way this turned out.
What a super transformation, enabling such a pretty set of drawers to continue to be used. Love it!
So far I like all of the choices you have made I also appreciate the educational aspect you provide for someone like me who has some furniture I want to do for my home and would make a mess of it without this. I will keep watching
Hmm... I'm new to this, but how long do you have to practice furniture restoration until you stop giggling at things like "make sure to get the stripper residue off of my wood?"
Regardless, the piece is gorgeous. The new color really makes you appreciate the details
Ive been at this for 8 years. Making comments about wet stripper and rubbing my wood, especially in videos, never ceases to make me smile. :)
Loved the way it turned out liked the blue after you toned it down.
Same here! Thanks for watching!
Amazing what glazes can do. Fantabulous and GORGEOUS 🌟🌟🌟⭐️❤️🙏🏻
Absolutely beautiful!!!!
*song plays* “I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more”.
"Once I've scrubbed all the stripper residue off of my wood."
😂😅😂😂
Eyyyyyy! Someone gets my dry comedy! Thanks for watching!
😂😂😂
I read this comment and was like...What? Then I got hit with a visual understanding of the pun. Bahahaha
LOL. That's funny.
Just wow!. Different than I really expected with the bold blue, but it reality works. Many steps ending in a beautiful finish.
Absolutely love the bold blue on this piece...
Not so shabby at all young lad. That was one fine job. Love the colour. Loved it before you put the stain on but it looks stunning as with the stain. You should use that colour a bit more methinks. Nice wee find. Beautiful side table. Love the detail on it.
Thank you! Cheers!
do you sell this furniture? id love to know how much they end up going for
Not speaking for him BUT...it Depends on a few things. You can google for a more detailed answer BUT for this exact piece? It COULD sell for anything ranging from 150/175ish up to 1k++. Type of wood, maker/brand, condition...
This blue night stand looks very professional l like very much how it turned out.
@@sharallmelton643 He is a professional. Xx
I love this piece very beautiful.
I didnt think i was going to like the top with that dark stain, but its perfect for the piece. I like that fact that you dont use only chalk paint, but latex also. The antiquing really made the piece look richer. Great color "lapis"
Just me who preferred it before...
Pretty, but I've found some mahogany antiques done this way and my heart cringed.
Taylor oh I agree. Often old furniture gets junked vs restored/refinished, I just think it’s tacky, in poor taste and a fad that I wish would end.
Are they giving life to old furniture? Yes? Do I hate it? Yes. Would I rather they restore it to it original condition? Yes. Can I stop it? Nope. Is there a chance it would get junked otherwise? Yup. Am I torn? Yes. Does anyone care what I think? Nope.
@@Korgon2013 You are the first one I've seen that feels this way; I am with you in this opinion. I have a cousin who has a business of painting old furniture in colors like this, and her work is beautiful. When/if the years roll around and the furniture this generation is refinishing needs yet another refinishing, I do wonder what will be said of our generation for this practice. They may love it, Idk. I also have to remember that some antiques were painted originally with milk paint, etc. and the wood never was meant to be seen, and it seems to me that a few years ago people were stripping those and staining/varnishing the original wood to the lightest wood color possible. In the case of this video, the furniture received an upgrade, it looks like, but I cringe too when I see an antique piece of "higher end" woods painted over. I'm glad we have the freedom to do what we want with what we own, so to each his/her own. Loved your answer, btw - such a gracious response that I need to copy more myself! But, this is all just my opinion, and as an aunt of mine put it nicely, "Opinions are like noses, everybody's got one". I think I'll go do what Taylor suggested and read a book or something, lol! :)
@@waygoblue4729 I've got a video idea: How about instead of me finding unpainted used furniture and painting it, I go and seek out some painted furniture that I KNOW is an antique underneath, strip it, and take it back to a wood finish. Maybe not original wood finish but something that would still be in demand today (often darker woods). Let me know. Its been on my mind. Thanks for commenting
@@Korgon2013 I mentioned this to another viewer in this thread. That Shabby Guy that would make us purists happy.
However, I asked Tom Johnson of Thomas Johnson Restoration (his channel is amazing) what he thought of shabby chic painting and his answer surprised me- he doesn’t care for it but if they aren’t altering the physical structure of the piece- who cares.
I remember when Jon Peters painted a purple heart piece and his commenters flipped out and fought in the comments section. I can’t afford Purple Heart, so I use poplar, plus my most recent saw blade is from 1987 to go on my 3/4” arbor Boice Crane 2500, and doesn’t like woods with Janka scores over 8/900.
Have a great weekend and I hope your family is ok during these times.
Love your paint color and the dark glaze really sets it off
Really love your tutorials, very detailed explanations as you work. You always put a great deal of thought and effort into your projects. Great job!
That's me in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Please twerk in next video, thank you❤
Ok next time
Damn. Those brushing noises 👌🏼. Perfect ASMR. Love how it turned out and nice tip about the thin coats for less brush strokes. Nice work
I loved the bold blue color even before you toned it down!
Love watching your videos! They are very informative! I've never seen wood stain used as a glaze over paint. This will be my 'go to' from now on. You did an awesome job on this piece of furniture!
It’s a Stunner!! I wasn’t sure about the blue when you started but man oh man did you change my mind by the end. Simply gorgeous
Wow, the staining really dresses up all the details.
Oh my. This turned out great.
Missed your videos. This is beautiful. I love your work. Best furniture renovator on youtube!!!
It’s beautiful. My favorite color.
